While I would like to have the options for ümlats and accents, it will make sending private messages, chatting, and reporting of abusive players more difficult, so they should go in the name of accessibility.

While Björk Guðmundsdóttir is different from Bjork Guomundsdottir, the latter is close enough for a MMO, and both would be banned anyway since Björk is a real person.

Instead of not including them, why not have names linkable for PM'ing or chatting?

BTW, the ð symbol is not equivalent to an "o", it's more equivalent to a "th". This may not be important to everyone, but it makes a difference as to how they're pronounced.

SWTOR also had a strange surname system. After you reached a certain level (20, maybe 30?) you could pick your surname, and all the characters on your account had the same surname. I did pick Steele, or tried to, but it was taken. So was about 20 other variations of it, so I went to oddball characters that still looked like "Steele" but had some questionable ASCII characters in the name. It worked, but was very clunky to look at. I ignored for the most part but that system bugged me.

If there was only some way to say, "Yeah, those other Steele's and I are related" or not related, that would be great. Surnames shouldn't be restricted. There are tons of different, unrelated families whose surnames are the same but are completely unrelated.

I'm betting Lem will have the beam fixed pretty quickly. He's not one to let his Tavern fall in on his head. ;)

I also would like to see them a lot less common and generally attached to lower damage weapons. So an unarmed monk may get a nice selection of stuns but a ranger firing broadhead arrows or a barbarian armed with a sword or axe will likely have no access to them at all.
I think Damage Type is more relevant to stuns than damage about. Blunt Weapons makes the most sense and lower level electricity spells, perhaps. Swords and Axes could hit someone with the "flat of the blade" for a stun-like attack, but in turn should have very little damage associated with it.

I'd actually like to see it so the keywords that enable the highest damage abilities cannot be used on the same weapon as one that grants stuns, and there won't be any good damage keywords available for the best stun keyword weapons.

I'm thinking of it a lot like a Magic The Gathering deck. A blue deck will have great control abilities but even the most offensive blue deck won't cause as much destruction as a good offensive red deck. But that red deck will have little to nothing in the way of control.

If you run a blue/red deck you can get a bit of both but not to the extent a mono-color deck would.

This! It makes sense logically and would fit in with the proposed system very well.

It looks like the entire Pax roster is but only a select few common posters from the other ones... I'd like to get a more accurate scope of the size of the respective guilds.

This doesn't account for all of our members. Our full roster can be found here.

I think we'd be happy to host on Gobbocast as well if you'd be interested. More ears is a good thing. :)

This reminds me of a problem my wife experienced in SWTOR that I hope can be avoided in PFO.

Apparently, Revan is a big deal in SWTOR lore, so they made it impossible to include that in your name. Well, her favorite name is Terevanya. It's not even remotely related to Revan, but because it contains those letters in that order, she was denied. That sucked.

I think something like that would be fine and not reported because it doesn't look like a Revan fan boy. It's obviously a different name, and I doubt anyone would have an issue.

I'd rather see good arguments for and against the various options rather than just making it a vote. Seeing that X% of people wanted something doesn't tell us why they did. Having you guys make sure we understand all the ramifications of decisions that we may not have thought of otherwise is crowdforging.

Sorry I'm late to this party. This is a topic near and dear to my heart.

As a lot of cultures in Golarion are a reflection of our own cultures, having the ability to use those names is important. My personal example are characters from the Land of the Linnorm Kings. For all intents and purposes, these guys are Scandinavian and specifically Viking culturally inspired. Naming one "Kathleen Daughter of Grims" isn't going to have the same impact as "Kaðlin Grimsdöttir" even though they mean the same thing.

While this may create issues where people name a character "Legölas" or "Drìzzit" to avoid an automated filter that would prevent them from using the legitimate spelling of the name, I think enough people would report them where they'd be forced to change the name.

I'd like realistic swimming and encumbrance, so if you fall in water wearing heavy armor, you would sink and drown pretty quickly.

If crossing terrain features were in, it would have a huge impact on warfare. Imagine one of your scouts finding a good location to ford a river, and then enemy is focused on a bridge miles upstream.

This. Also, make movement on different terrains have an actual effect, like through sand or boggy areas slowing you down.

Basic instruction, yes, but as far as massing all our forces to do battle against another force for training... that's just not practical from a strategic or economic standpoint. Too many resources with no discernible objective and you are leaving your settlement vulnerable while giving potential enemies a full frontal of your capabilities.

Friendly combat through factions would be more plausible but only on a small scale.

We'll probably be putting on RP events for the Holidays, Khas would be able to elaborate on that. Feud mechanics would likely be utilized for that, if not done through faction.

At this point, as far as holidays go, we only have one official one. I have plans for celebrating many, though, in the Aeternum settlement. For those interested, I put a list of the Golarion holidays (at least the ones I knew about) in our wiki. Here's a link.

Still interested in moving this along, Sir?
Yes of course! Sorry I wasn't able to get in on the RP tavern. I have been mad busy lately and that thread got very long, very quickly!

Heh. I started the thread - it was something we'd kicked around in the Pax forums - and then promptly went off to Sicily for a three-week vacation, with spotty internet connections, and haven't participated since. I'll give it a jump-start over the next few days and we can both remedy our nonparticipation, hmm?

For a meeting, I'll be available Thursday or Friday evening from about 6 pm EST, and anytime on Sunday.

Those times for Thursdays or Fridays are good for me as well. Sundays after 6pm are doubtful.

I'm glad to see the Tavern on these boards. It was getting boring listening to only Björn sing on Saturday nights. ;)

I should be able to attend on Saturday at that time.

Kaðlin is an Ulfen barbarian. I recently described her to someone else like this: In fictional characters, her personality most resembles Herger (Dennis Storhøi) from the movie "The 13th Warrior". She's cocky and a bit caustic with a biting wit. She constantly quotes her father, who in her eyes was the perfect man.

Put me down as another Paxian with whom to talk.

We may see something new today. Stay tuned...

As someone who spends most of their time lurking on these forums, I agree wholeheartedly.

I've avoided these forums in the past due to sniping and bickering. I came to read about the game and see some insightful discussion. All too often, the toxic atmosphere being generated by the arguing buries any point that could have been made.

I'm dedicated to playing PfO, but if it's driving me away, what would it do to someone who is more casual or just curious about the game?

Goblin Squad Member

Thanks, Nihimon, that's exactly what I wanted to know.

Goblin Squad Member

I thought I saw it somewhere, but I don't recall where now, but is it correct that there is no longer a capstone planned?

Hail all,

I'm just announcing to the world that as an applicant to Pax Aeternum guild family, I highly recommend everyone at least check them out. I was pointed here by a real-life friend. After reading their charter, I agreed that this sounded more like a group of friends with common goals than a hard-core guild.

Now, I'm in the two-week "application" period. Which is really more like a two-week introductory period. There really isn't any work to do. Just converse on their boards to let both parties get a feeling about the other.

So, if you think they sound good, give them a shout.

Sorry I'm late to the party, but I don't get on these boards much, and I post even less, but for you, I'll gladly post. Welcome, Nwevyn!

Ryan's said you can also let him play another character on your first account, at the same time as you play your main, if that's any simpler.

That would be very cool! Got a link? I'd like to read up on it more. Thanks!

I'm a member and officer of Pax Aeternum.

What I hope to see is a world full of player-made stories and content. I want to participate in engaging RP and see the world changed through our sweat and efforts.

I also would like to see active, engaging PVP. No stun-locks or suicide ganks. Griefing should never be accepted, but honest combat should be encouraged and enjoyed.

I would love to see consequences for actions. NPC's should cower or flee from those of base reputations, while those with sterling reputations should be welcomed with open arms.

I hope to enjoy a world with wide open expanses begging to be explored, a world with (eventually) thriving cities of player design, a world where people have the opportunity to strive amidst the chaos of unbridled war or the rule of enforced peace.
