I do have one question that I forgot to mention. What are your opinions of crafting feats?

GM Kulko wrote:

Thanks Kayalenta, Excellent application post, that was the information I was looking for at this time.

If you get selected please be prepared to provide me with a few pointers on where to find good info about your goddess and faith.

No problem Kulko. I was figuring to add some links to the profile when I finish setting it up. Pulura isn't the most well developed goddess in the game but there is enough to give the character a basis of faith.

Silver Crusade

Name Kayalenta Noack, priestess of Pulura
Race/Class Kellid-Ulfen Human Cleric of Pulura
Role Healer/Advisor
Personality Wandering spirit, protective of those she feels connected to (friends)

Backstory:
Kayalenta was born in 4684 to a retired Mendev Crusader name Coneld Noack and his wife, Ginnarla Lesnayatrop. From a young age, Kaya was taught the work of healing and of witchcraft by her mother and she was taught about the wild creatures of the forest by Biolatail, Ginna’s pooka companion. For the most part her father, Coneld, left the raising of his daughter to Ginna, but he would spend his nights sitting with the family listening to the stories that Ginna would tell of her people and their traditions. To Kaya, the best stories were those about the Maiden from the Stars, Pulura.

For the first fourteen years of her life, Kaya’s childhood was peaceful but then true tragedy struck. Coneld was out on a long trip into Silverhall when Ginna fell ill. Kaya did what she could while Biolatail took off to see if she could get help, but when the pooka returned she found Kaya silently holding her mother’s still body. Kaya stayed silent long after and her father began to spend more time away from the home. Even Biolatail took to spending more time in the wilds, leaving Kaya to herself.

During these times when she was left alone, Kaya would recall the stories her mother told, especially her favorites about Pulura. She began to wonder, often aloud to herself, if the Maiden from the Stars was looking over her mother’s spirit. After a while Kaya began to pray to Pulura, and while there was no response she felt comfort all the same. She also began to feel a connection again with her mother’s companion, Biolatail and even her father.

Kayalenta spent the next few years becoming a skilled healer, and even trained with her father to defend herself. She also attempted to learn all she could of the faith of Pulura, and she learned of a few holy sites dedicated to her. Biolatail tried to teach her the tradition of witchcraft, but it seemed her talents lay elsewhere. Knowing that Ginna would want her daughter to follow her own path, Biolatail encouraged Kaya to seek the faith she felt.

Kayalenta traveled north to the Shining Sea, making a pilgrimage to see the glory of the lights of Pulura. The night she arrived, she knew the trip would be worth it. The northern lights sparkled overhead and a firefly landed on her shoulder. The stories her mother told said that a firefly often was a sign of Pulura’s favor so she left it to shelter in her warmth. To her surprise, it began to buzz softly and soon it seemed to speak. Seek the stars as seen above Lirgen, far to the south. Then it took flight and was gone.

The morning came and Kaya figured what she remembered was just a dream, but she felt something further. She found that her faith had unlocked divine power, she knew enough about magic to understand what this may mean. She did not know what Lirgen was, but she immediately began the journey south. After a year she found herself in Magnimar, and there she learned where her journey must lead. Lirgen was no more, but the remains of that lost kingdom was now lost among the Sodden Lands. She found a ship heading out for Sargava, far to the south, and she booked passage aboard.

Link Kayalenta was a character I was originally playing in a Strange Aeons game, and it is a character concept I have desired to play for a while now. The posts I made in that game I feel are a great example of my style of play. Please feel free to check out the posts made with this profile.

Character Development I know this was not asked for, but I want to present the development that is intended for this character. Kaya is intended to become a Stargazer (the PrC), which was the original inspiration for the character. I have tried to include elements of this development in her backstory such as her mother being a witch and the firefly possibly being a familiar eventually. She won’t be much of a combatant overall, focusing on healing and support of the frontline fighters.

Thanks for the consideration. The profile build is currently the version from Strange Aeons, but I am working to rework her to the character creation rules you have presented. I will post again once that is done.

I too am glad to hear things are at least better, if not exactly perfect again. Also, I know how it goes with injuries and stuff, so I can easily see how it would hit you. And I don't have children, so I can only imagine how that must be. Glad to see you back.

As for restarting things here, that I cannot 100% say about right at the moment. I ask that I be able to take the weekend at least and get back to you on it. I have a CON this weekend and so I will be out of touch for that, and work has been rough lately. I am hoping that things will calm down next week and I can let you know then.

Either way, I am glad to hear back from you Chapel, and if I cannot continue I understand others keeping it going. I will be sad, but I 100% understand.

I'm not sure what can be done as the GM would be the one to make it inactive (to my knowledge). I do hate to say I suspect it is more than the GM is able to handle right now. Which is a shame, I like the way this was playing out.

For now I am okay with riding it out. I don't think there is a limit to how many games you can be associated with. But I am also ok if others feel they need to move away from it. I hope to see you guys on other games at some point. Good luck and great stories to everyone.

And, last to GM Chapel, I hope all is well. When you are finally able to return to the forums, feel free to look me (us?) up. Perhaps we can resume this or a different game together. Regardless, I thank you for being will to run while you could.

The Kellid shield maiden stays watching the raid continue to fall as she looks out through the cracked door. She looks at the young halfling and her oversized shadow for a second, then returns to watching outside. She speaks softly over her shoulder, trying to figure out if she can trust her new companions. Something about these two specifically feels uncomfortable.

"Young Miss," she whispers. "I know we all seem to have lost not only our memories but our selves as well. Perhaps though you have gained something as well. I cannot say I understand but perhaps your connection to him, er, her, I mean... I am sorry, I don't wish to call your friend a 'thing', but I am not sure how to refer to it in truth. Do you know what the connection you share is?"

I am back at least for the next week I hope. Next weekend I may disappear for a day or two again. Sorry and I will continue to post as much as I can.

Kaya may have to grow to like that nickname, BTW.

Edit: Changed to proper character. Somehow got listed as my Swashbuckler/Paladin of Sarenrae. Completely different character.

HP 9 of 9 Init. +0, Perception +2 AC 15, T 10, FF 15

The Kellid woman hears the pale man's offer to go get the bodies and turns back.

"You may be right about your strength, my friend," she says. "but I still feel it would be best for most of us to go down and check it out. Perhaps one of us staying up top to watch our back would be advised, but with the rest down below the job may go quicker and with less chance of danger."

She motions to her shield and continues. "I will stay above if we feel it is in the best interest. I can certainly protect myself if it comes to it."

Silver Crusade

HP 9 of 9 Init. +0, Perception +2 AC 15, T 10, FF 15

The Kellid woman relaxes slightly, though she keeps her shield half-raised in caution. When her half-elf associate mentions a burial she feels slightly ashamed of herself, though she is not quite sure why.

"I feel we should make an effort to put that man to rest." she says. "In our rush to get out of that horror scene, I let my fear drive me to forget that others had already suffered. Please, since it seems we will have to go back down there, lets make sure we bring him back up as well.

She turns to the door and heads back outside.

"Perhaps we can also make sure we didn't leave anything else down there. I'd hate to have to make a second trip back down."

Silver Crusade

HP 9 of 9 Init. +0, Perception +2 AC 15, T 10, FF 15

The Kellid woman remains in place but does not lower her shield.

Prove we aren't shape shifting monsters, she thinks to herself. how are we supposed to do that?

Seeing that the half-elf and the pale man seem to be wiling to take front in the conversation, she feels that trying to add to the discuss will just make things worse. She remains silent and continues to watch for additional threats.

Silver Crusade

HP 9 of 9 Init. +0, Perception +2 AC 15, T 10, FF 15

The Kellid woman feels the halfling girl try to remain out of view and instinctually raises her shield to protect herself and her new companions.

What now? she things to herself, making note of the barricade.

"Please don't shoot!" she shouts, trying not to sound panicked.

Silver Crusade

HP 9 of 9 Init. +0, Perception +2 AC 15, T 10, FF 15

The Kellid woman follows the group, keeping an eye on the rear of the group. She keeps her shield up to ward off any unexpected attacks.

Silver Crusade

HP 9 of 9 Init. +0, Perception +2 AC 15, T 10, FF 15

The Kellid woman winces as she feels the burning sensation from the rain. She raises her shield to stop the drops from running down her back, though it still soaks in.

"I feel we should hurry." she says. "I don't welcome being caught in this rain much longer. Its burn and none of us can avoid it for long."

Go figure, the cleric can't dodge rain!

Silver Crusade

HP 9 of 9 Init. +0, Perception +2 AC 15, T 10, FF 15

Perception:
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

The Kellid woman steps out into the courtyard, looking around to see if anything seems familiar.

"Please, my friend," she says to the half-elf. "remain calm. Something tells me that we are as real as anything else around here, though I can't say I know exactly why I feel that way. Regardless, we have been given a chance to make whatever is wrong, right again."

I am not sure I believe that myself, but panic will not help us right now.

"Nothing here looks familiar, so I guess we should see about the door here. Our pale friend seems good at getting around, perhaps you would care of see what lies ahead? We won't be far behind though."

With that the Kellid woman steps back from the door and waits to see what the groups wishes to do.

Silver Crusade

HP 9 of 9 Init. +0, Perception +2 AC 15, T 10, FF 15

The Kellid woman quickly follows the halfling girl up the chute, feeling the sense of dread wash over her as she realizes she was now alone. At the tops she takes a look around and at her companions. Still feeling the dread, she clutches the wooden symbol at her chest and causes it to glow again.

I wish this would shine brighter, her thoughts run. I can't help but feel something is missing that more light would reveal.

The Kellid woman keeps a weary eye, focusing on the area beyond the door of the room. The air seems heavy with fear and while she is fighting to appear in control, her own fear is starting to show.

"Okay, up you go little halfling." she says with a mental note to try not to talk down to her like a child. "Hopefully we can find a safe shelter up above."

The Kellid woman looks up to the half-elf returning to the room and nods.

"It certainly a monster of a being." she says. "I hope we do not encounter more of them, but escape does seem like what we should be aiming for. I can't recall what may have happened here, but it is clear that something horrific went on."

She turns at the sound of the pale man's voice coming from the chute. She shudders at the though of having to climb up, but there doesn't seem to be much else to do.

"Should you go up next to help our pale friend make sure things are clear?" she continues while looking at the half-elf and then to the young halfling. "I can stay here and watch over our back and our halfling friend can follow you next."

The Kellid woman had remained behind staring at the carved woman’s face she found on a broad cord. The face seemed familiar, with what looked like stars worked into the eyes and seemingly at random in the hair, but she could not put a name to it just yet. She knew the object was some kind of talisman to her, so she hung it around her neck and hoisted the shield once again. Then she entered the horrid scene in the room with her new companions.

”Sorry, I was lost in thought for a moment.” she says upon entering. ”This is strange. I understand not knowing any of you, but for us all to forget who we are seems strange to me. Still, some things are familiar. I know this shield is something special to me and this talisman as well, but why is lost to me.”

The woman notes that the halfling girl has found some things among the corpses and the pale man is looking at the chute. She nods to the half-elf as he seems to be taking in the scene as well and she kneels near the pile of bodies. The light in the room is poor and she instinctively grasps the talisman around her neck and speaks a short prayer, then the talisman glows slightly allowing her to examine the bodies to see what may have happened here.

Heal:

Of note, thank you for everyone’s patience. Do not hesitate to move on if you know I am going to be away. Especially while we are in this unknown state of mind. Its easy to assume Kaya just drifted into her own mind for a few.

First, If Kaya sees Eldako needs a weapon she will offer her spear or her cold iron dagger. She carries them out of habit but she knows she is not a warrior.

Second, we have some items that Zylah has found. Do we have a method of keeping track of items found? If we like I can use a sheet I keep for many of the games I have played in over the years and I can share it with the group. This is of course if GM Chapel is okay with that or doesn’t have his own way of doing it. Let me know.

The Kellid woman drops the broken shears to the floor and examines the creature on the floor, checking to assure herself that it is dead. As she does so, she glances at the halfling girl.

"I remember the dream." the Kellid woman says. "I do not remember much before that though. If we knew each other, I do not recall it. What of you others? Do you know how we are connected?"

Heal:

Silver Crusade

HP 9 of 9 Init. +0, Perception +2 AC 15, T 10, FF 15

So my actions will hinge of this question. Is there some medical impliments on the table that Kaya could use as an improvised weapon?

If YES:
The Kellid woman grabs the nearest sharp object and steps up to the horrific monster in an attempt to stab it. Her angry bellows echoes in the small space.

"You blood will mix with his, I swear to you!"

Improvised Attack: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (16) - 1 = 15
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Move action to grab an weapon. 5 foot step to move into a flank (not sure if this means she has cover). Standard action to attack.

If NO:
The Kellid woman boils with anger but without an effective weapon she is unsure she could harm this creature. An impulse strikes her and she moves around the table to the half-elf and lays her hand upon him as she speaks softly.

"May the spirits of beyond watch over you."

Move action to move adjacent to Sebastian. Standard to provide Elysium's call to him. See below.

Elysium’s Call (Su):
With a touch, you can imbue creatures with the spirit of Elysium, lifting their spirits and freeing them from bonds. The creatures touched can immediately reroll any failed saving throws against spells and spell-like abilities of the enchantment (charm) and enchantment (compulsion) subschools. In addition, targets receive a +2 sacred bonus on such saving throws and a +2 sacred bonus on CMB checks to escape a grapple. Finally, targets can ignore up to 5 feet of difficult terrain each round, as if they had the Nimble Moves feat. These bonuses last for a number of rounds equal to 1/2 your cleric level (minimum 1), although the saving throw reroll only applies when the creature is touched. You can use this ability for a number of rounds per day equal to 3 + your Wisdom modifier.

The tall Kellid woman rushes out of the now open cell and goes to the man on the table.

Why would someone do this? she thinks as she tries to see if he can be saved.

"Please tell me I am not too late."

Heal:
First Aid (DC 15): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20

Move action to approach the man on the table, Standard action to use Heal to stabilize him, assuming he can be stabilized.

Silver Crusade

HP 9 of 9 Init. +0, Perception +2 AC 15, T 10, FF 15

The angry woman looks on as her cell mate batters himself against the door. She whispers to him as she prepares a little surprise for the monster.

"Be ready my friend."

She then holds out her hand past the bars and calls out to the world.

"You should not anger the storms!" she shouts as the air around the monster condenses into a small storm and tries to batter it.

Storm Burst:
  • Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
  • Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1 Non-lethal

Well, I feel my RP is at least going well. The dice though seem to think my plans are terrible ideas.

"How could you?" she calls out. "You clearly a more sick than those you supposedly care for. Let me out, NOW! So I can try and save this man!"

A nightmare? she thinks to herself as she look around. But it felt so real. And...

Perception:

The Kellid woman's thought is cut short as she takes in her surroundings and notices the "doctor" as it cuts the bound victim and the shadow just past the table. Something is screams in the back of her mind that what is happening is not medicine, but torture. She stands quickly and approaches the bars, feeling that deep down she has to try to put a stop to this.

"Hey!" the woman calls out. "I can't say I approve of how you seem to be "practicing" medicine. Free me, and that man, at once!"

"The Maiden may not command you!" she calls out as she raises her empty hand to it. "But she can command the mists!

As she finishes her shout a cloud forms between her and the monster, the wind from the cloud buffets it and rain drives into it's flesh.

I felt the intros were good. Keeps the air of uncertainty about what is going on, which as a horror fan is what I would look for. Its a little weird giving up much more control to the GM than I am used to, but so far that is working for me.

As for the interaction between the characters, I think the slight confusion is adding to the mood. Quick instinctual reactions are appropriate given we arrive in an unknown place, with unknown people, AND we are also unknown people to ourselves.

Short answer, keep it coming!

Silver Crusade

HP 9 of 9 Init. +0, Perception +2 AC 15, T 10, FF 15

1d4 ⇒ 4 Well, that's good. I'll stick with her shield, her holy symbol, her healer's kit, and her spell component pouch.

The young woman turns towards the sound of foot steps and readies her shield to protect herself. She unconsciously reaches up to her chest and touches the wooden holy symbol there, unsure of why this actions brings her comfort. She takes a step back preparing to head to the left and whispers to those nearby.

"I don't know how we got here, but I feel we should get away from here."

Using the one action to ready her shield and if possible a single step away.

From my experience, eventually the system learns that you normally use a certain alias as the default for a thread by itself. I'm not sure how long it takes but for all the ones I've been involved in it eventually happens. Of course I use Chrome and there may be something in the background I am not aware of, so there is that as well.

Another (probably pretty stupid) question: this isn't a PFS game, right? Because I see Kayalenta is affiliated with the Silver Crusade, we don't have to choose a faction too, am I wrong? Asking because if this is a PFS game I have to completely change my character.

I am reusing profiles for the PFS characters I have set up. In my PFS group I was primarily a GM for about 4-5 years, so I had a number of registered characters but almost none of them were used in PBP. This means they can be recycled without too much trouble.

I have no desire for this to be for PFS credit, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Speaking of skills... I have one change I want to make in my initial skills. I'd like to swap Craft (alchemy) for Profession (herbalist). I will be taking Craft (alchemy) at level two and bouncing back and forth between the two.

As for other skills, my plan is as follows:

Full ranks: Heal, Geography, Planes, Spellcraft and Linguistics
Half ranks: Arcana, Nature, Religion, Survival (I need it for the PrC), Craft and Profession

Special: Fly (starting at level 7, taking it 1 per level until 10 ranks)

Others: Appraise, Handle Animal, Engineering, History (spreading around the background skills)

In addition my familiar will be a Sage archetype taking full ranks in Arcana and half in Nature and History.

I possibly could take full ranks in Nature and ditch Arcana, if people think that would be better.

Wait, you mean that my character already has those useful info under his name? That's wonderful!

Well, it depends on what information you want to show. I tend to give AC/HP/Perception and stuff. I've seen it done several different ways, ranging from just race and class to a list of all skills with modifiers, hp, ac, race, class, feats and attack mods (this level is too much, it kind of becomes unreadable).

But, yeah, your race, class, level and such is there now.

Oh boy, I'd love to play RotRL from start to end! Started a couple times with my former group, but never went too far because of issues.

But let's talk about this AP now. I think there isn't a great need of changing our concept, or adjusting our builds too much. I think that we're good enough to go.

One technical question: how do one put character informations under their nickname? Is it something anyone can do?

I assume you mean the way Eldako current has. IF so, then yes, we all can (and should I believe). When you go in to set up the profile there are a number of sections with things like race, class, str, dex, etc. Those work just like the main information box (in terms of formatting and urls), just fill it in. This is something I will be doing later tonight as well.
