Oh i found it under base combat maneuvers in the middle of a paragraph. You are correct. Sadly you are still grappled because it was a nat 20. The dragon does take the 11 dmg.


I can't seem to find anywhere what you are talking about finnian. Why do you add your AOO to the CMD?
"CMD vs grapple = 23+damage from AoO"
I have been looking all over and read the grapple rules a few times making sure but i don'e see anywhere that your cmd gets a bonus from the aoo. I know there are some things you can do to help break a grapple. but not stop one.


As you all head to the books the dragon screams, "that treasure is mother's, get away from there and clean yourselves off." He flies over unstably dipping and weaving. Seeing that you are not grabbing the gold he attempts to grab Finnian since he was the first to move towards the gold.

Grapple: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
Finnian gets an AOO from the grapple check.

As he lands on the gold pile his weight sends the gold avalanche'ing down covering your feet in gold.


It does seem that the campaign died. and its not that i haven't posted. not one replies. i am the last one that has posted on the campaign. No one seems to want to continue. i have waited for them to take their turns.


oh sorry. the fort and reflex were both DC13 I though I wrote that.

The knowledge will let u know its a plant of some kind that doesn't grow naturally in caves.

As you walk through the gold its shifts and slides down as you go up the pile. in the back corner you see a pile of books that look to be many decades old.


The dragon is saying it. So we r at the top of the round.


The dragon's breath flies from its mouth with such force the dragon falls over backwards into the pool. You see no cloud of smoke or any element come from it. You do see slime hit the ground and the walls and even some of it lands on you! The water spills out of the pools and the stench grow worse.

Anyone within the 60ft cone will take Force Damage: 2d4 ⇒ (2, 1) = 3and needs to make a fort save DC 13. (that's everyone BTW)

The dragon stumbles back to its feet and rubs its face with its large and sharp claw. Seeing what has happened it says "OH NO! Quickly in to the pool with you."

Well if u wish to add your self in go right ahead and roll int and perception. And act to try and speed this up.


Leena what did your use of your arcane point do? just +2 enhancement bonus for 1 minute?

The dragon opens its eyes when it hears casting. When it sees all of you it speaks in draconic "You're not mother!" With a look of surprise and shock it then yells "GET OUT NOW!!!" On its turn it will stand and its head tilts back and appears to be getting ready to use a breath weapon.


Kit'Arr is having some issues with her ISP and her internet line was stuck by lightning. She will be stealthing outside the room until either she returns or you all ask for her assistance in with she gave me permission to use her char sheet.

So with that lets start this final encounter. You all see the dragon laying in the pool of gross water. What do you wish to do?

You all see that dragon is not asleep but seems to be focused on its bath.

Finnian and Leena see that the dragon has an odd looking plant smothered on its face.

Leena notices that this dragon looks to be a young dragon based on its small wings and dull claws. She also see's it is MUCH MUCH larger then it should be.


it does not seem to see you. it looks almost like its resting.


As you put your hand on the claw the voice calls out. "Welcome, Bartholomew, Finnian, Leena, and Kit'Arr are true decedents of Apsu."

The claw turns to point at the door and cast Disintegrate on it. The door turns to dust while the claw falls to the ground. In the room you see a huge pile of shinny gold that illuminates the room. The gold is scattered around and as you step in you step on pieces of treasure. Amidst the treasure you see weapons and armors. Straight ahead you see a scum covered pond of smelly gross water. In the water you see a Huge dragon that looks to be made of crystals.

As you put on the scarab on you feel the like an evil is looming over you.

It seems as you wear it nothing happens.

So this is how it will work. Every day that it is worn there is a 5% chance it will polymorph you for 15 minutes every 6 hours. If you get 00-05 then roll a d74 and see what animal on this list you become.

You will gain all the stats listed on a stat block for the animal. You can still think normally as if your mind was simply put in the animal body.

Your detect magic forced on the claw finds Detect chaos, Detect evil, Detect good, Detect law, Scene life, and Disintegrate are all present. When you place the scarab on the claw the claw closes over the scarab and then drops it with no effect. The draconic voice states "Constructs are not the descendent of Apsu, The Creator of All Life."

yes i know scene life is not a spell but its the only thing that works here


As you touch the claw it moves as if alive. A voice calls out in draconic. "Who wishes to enter this sacred domain? Any found not worthy will be turned to ash." The golden claw rears around and rest in a outward facing palm. "Place your hand upon the claw to test your heritage". The claw's finger's have candle like flames white as snow spouting from the tips. The flames seem to produce no heat and do not move to the flow of air.

Bartholomew I dont know what languages you speak. I can't seem to find them in your character sheet. Only Leena speaks Draconic.

With your arcana checks you know that some dragons can alter their aperences to pass as humans. You also know that though all dragons hoard gold and treasure the area where they make their nest also must be something they want around. Not every old cave will suffice. Knowing these two facts you can come to the conclusion that this is a Crystal dragon cave.These nutral creatures are know to make labyrinth like mazes so that their invaders die and run away while they watch with their crystal ball. They have sharp claws and quick wings they use for attacking as well as their tail. Their most fierce attack come from their mouth. Both used for a bite and a breath weapon. You know that it is an acid breath that also can cause confusion.

You also know its strange for a Crystal dragon to leave its cave for any reason but to trick adventurer's to enter and suffer then eat them and take their items.

Putting all of your cunning together you come to a joined thought that the scarb may be the best choice. However with it transforming you in to a random creature it may not be a dragon. You second thought is that since dragons are extremely intelegent they would use very accurate wording. "Only the true decentdents may enter" may mean you can but it is unwelcome.


As you all ponder how to get in, glimpses of the past flash at your minds.

"Thank Apsu you have arrived" Remi's voice echoes in your ears as if she was speaking those words just as she did when you got to camp.
Another flash as a picture of the scout pointing out a young women as a dragon leaving the cave.
Small crystals and gems seem to hover around you partially translucent reminding you this dragon seems to be a strange one.
Time feels like its been an eternity since you entered this winding cave that feels like a labyrinth.

As quickly as the mysterious symptoms appeared they also seemed to disappeared.

Anyone can make some knowledge checks(religion for Apsu)(Arcana for the young women to see why she was called a dragon)(Another arcana to see if you know what kind of dragon may be coming home). Everyone can give a wisdom check to see if they can figure out what is going on.


You are confident the door is safe to open. Assuming you know how.

This is meant to be a minor puzzle


You can tell its a Pendant of the Blood Scarab. Bartholomew also can see that there is a bad omen imprinted on the pendent. It seems like if you were to wear it, it may transform you into a animal at random times. It also would seem once activated the beetle does not let go and can not be removed. If you have questions about how it works, I can fully explain after, or if someone wants to try it out.

Some time passes as you wonder the halls of this damp cave. The magic in the air gets thicker as you explore deeper in. Finding your way to some dead ends and as well as some loops. As time passes by steady you start to notice some fine crystals in the wall that get makes you think this dragon may not be a common one, seeing that it has not taken all of the ore and treasure from the walls. Finally after some time you find a strange round door made of a black rock in a perfect circle. The rock smells of ash and soot. It feels like the magic is a current flowing from the tiny gaps in the seal. A large gold claw hangs from the center where a door knock would sit. You see no handle or knob to turn to open the door. In Draconic you read "Only the true descendants may enter" inscribed above the doors arch. The magic feels strong enough to become a materiel rather then a invisible force. You can feel heat coming off the door as though the next room was ablaze with an inferno.
As you get close to the door you hear a voice call out to you. Its vaguely familiar as it calls Quickly now, your taking to long in there. We can see the dragon coming back now.

Im not really sure if Hero Points are allowed here. I am not the GM of this or in any sort of leadership role i just looked it over. i have never seen one used. other then that it looks like its good. Glad to have you!

Updated Map!

Sorry for the waiting. I have been working extra because i am being trained as a shift lead. For the next couple days i have some days off so i will update more often. Also i didnt think this would live past the first round so i didnt have you roll Init and i dont thinks its necessary for this small fight anyways.

Reflecx for half(-10 to area spells): 1d20 - 8 ⇒ (19) - 8 = 11
You see significant damage to the swarm as it burns. Seeming to move in the same direction as before the swarm passes by Leena and rushes through the door and vanishes down the tunnel.

Leena and Kit'Arr may make AOOs if you like to as it runs though your threatened area.

Bartholomew is able to get his foot free of a few rock but one seems to be troubling him. After a few attempts you can move it enough to scoot out from under it. Inspecting the room carfully you find no other traps but you do find the open the door next to Bartholomew has a small cubby hole hiding a carved ruby in the shape of a scarab set in gold.

Spellcraft check to identify. DC 18

Unless anyone has something specific they want to do I need more survival, perception checks and a knowledge Arcana check.

As you touch the man your hand phases through him and it's plain to see that he is an illusion. You see the gold fade to dirt the door the mand foot rest in is now closed and has no lock or handle. did you stop concentration on detect magic?

Leena Almadill:
You detect a strong magic flooding the whole cave.(round one is just is there magic? Yes.)

You all feel an uneasy feeling flow over you. Something feels ominous in the air and its feels worse by the second. As Bartholomew steps to the door you hear a loud clunk. The door near him burst at the seam. Boulders fall forth and trample the poor meek wizard trapping his leg under the rocks.

Falling rock reflex 15 for half: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 1, 5) = 11

Trapped and unable to get free Bartholomew lays prone. The treasure vanishes and turns to dirt small bugs begin to amass heading directly towards Finnian.

You all believe the gold and man are real. As you get closer you see many weapons and armors among the gold with jeweled scabbards. Some wands and other various magical and wondrous items can be seen. Blood continues to pour from the mans leg.


You detect a strong magic flooding the whole cave.(round one is just is there magic? Yes.) Are you saying you disbelieve?


You see no traps on the door. As you begin to pick the lock it falls to pieces as rust has taken its hold. The door creeks open and you see a pile of treasure and gold so high it makes you dizzy. To the north a noble looking man is screaming as his foot seems to be pinned in a door by rock. Now laying motionless and bleeding from his leg he seems to not have noticed you before passing out.


After roughly 20 min of wandering you find a wooden door with a simple lock. You also hear a deep voice screaming in pain from the other side.

I assume your using the cartography tools to map the dungeon so I'll try and keep the map up to date. Sadly I cant find a way to make it easier to see.

Well wizard, I hope you understand we expect you to leave at a moments notice. This means we may send you while you sleep.
As the day drags on you start to feel an strange feeling of magic in the air. Even those not magically inclined can feel it permeate their skin. By night you all feel that magic is almost easier to preform.
All concentration check will be given a +2 non typed bonus as well as the DC's will be +1, and all magic weapons get a +2 to hit as they track their target slightly.
As night fall you hear a yelling coming from outside the camp. It's a scout IT'S COMING, quickly you must come to the cave and complete the mission. We need this information!
You all hustle to the cave and hide a few hundred feet from the entrance. You notice the cave is only a about 10 feet tall and 10 feet wide as a youthful human female steps out and walks in to the Forrest holding a basket.
There she goes, its time to make your way to find the disturbance. Now go quickly.

The cave is dark and damp but not pitch black like expected. The walls glow as the mineral rich rock gives off a soft light. The magic auras get stronger as you enter and the smell of death come rolling out. The deeper you go the more it twist and turns and more paths lead to dead ends.
Survival checks and perception checks from everyone to not get lost. Also, if you want to ask any questions to the scout you may.


If no one else has any questions, you should rest till we give you the word to move out. This is where you will sleep. Remi leaves the tent leaving you to the beds and your planning. The night passes and the sun rises. In the morning Remi greets you stating, The scouts report that the dragon did not leave last night so you have the day. Tonight we expect the dragon to leave like normal. If you wish you can leave early and try to sneak past the dragon. Though I don't recommend trying that.


My dear girl, were you not listening. As long as you give us a chance to record the findings you may keep anything you find except the books. As for your request young wizard, we are only permitted to lend you these. I however can not let you keep the bags I suspect they will help you carry your well earned rewards.
She hands you a large scroll(greater teleport CL 10), an Ioun Torch, a bag of holding(type I) with 3 potions of Cure Moderate wounds for each member of the party and one cartographers kit.
Please use these well and if you must get out in a hurry use that scroll to make it back here. I will also cast a message spell to keep in contact and warn you if the dragon comes home early. Any other questions?

As soon as all of you enter the carriage You hear a loud whinny of many horses and the door slams shut. You arrive in a camp where you see most of the people sitting by lamps reading books and scrolls. A few are marking maps and using cartography tools. The ones that notice your presence seem to be relieved and whisper amoung themselves and begin gesturing towards you.
Ah, thank Apsu you have finally made it! Marccus, you may go back to your studies whenever you wish. I hope the teleportation spell didn't startle you to much.

I lead this team of researchers in search of a long lost tome that may hold the history of our great God and Creator. Which intern may reveal to us some way of discovering our creators location. However we have hit a bit of a snag and have not been able to move forward in our studies. You see, we set up camp only 3 months ago. Although we have made tremendous progress, we haven't been able to continue due to a strange magical aura that even our best mage can't seem to discern. It emanates out of a nearby cave we want to explore but are afraid of the dragon that lives inside. That's where you all come in. We need you to sneak in while the dragon is away and do some reconnaissance on what exactly is causing this disturbance. If you by chance find any books we would like to keep them; you will be able to keep anything else inside as long as we may catalog it in our records.

After catching his breath he explains.Well you see, my mission was to find help. Since you all so kindly volunteered, I'll take you to our camp far to the North. There my master will give you the full briefing of ominous magical cave.He stands drawing a glass cane topped by a golden dragon head while the base looks to be a claw made of alabaster. Leading you to a ornately designed carriage with golden trim in the shape of dragon tails. Dark oak constructs most of carriage. The drivers seat doors look like large wings that fold downwards as another halfling simply bows and opens the carriage door allowing Marcus to seamlessly transition to climb the short stairs. Now we must be on our way, night fall is quickly approaching and Master want me back before then. Marcus gestures you to come in and sit. The seat made of purple silk and velvet. A silver tea set sits hot, ready to pour next to some fine bicuits.


My campaign is now started. Bubo Sraga has not checked in but we are starting. Bubo Sraga may join as long as they check in before the PC's finish talking.
