Okay, so I want two characters - one to be the freedom-loving, sleep-under-the-stars, pro-bono-work, awesome good guy hero. She'll buy a round for her pals at the tavern, she'll defend the defenseless, especially newbies, she'll man the defenses if the town comes under attack, she'll...I dunno, rescue kittens from trees. Help people gather resources, whatever work needs to be done. I want people to remember how I helped them, and to pay it forward and help other people when they need it. I want to make the PFO world a better place.

The second character, I want to be a bandit. Like soooo bad. I want to set up ambushes and taunt those wretched do-gooders and call them ridiculous things like "wretched do-gooders" because I will be an obvious villain and will revel in it. I'm not talking about griefing people, I'm talking about role-playing with people who are into it and giving them some smarmy jerk to revile and team up against. I want to RP the scheming and backstabbing that might go on in a villainous organization. I want to be someone's lackey, and then one day have lackeys of my own. I want to make the PFO world a more awesome place. :)

Exactly!

I have read their blog, but I don't remember seeing them mention how spell casting will work in the game.

Will it be like the tabletop, where you get a certain number per day and have to rest to get them back?

I can see this as being really cool, keeping in tradition with the actual roleplaying game. This could make spell casters a really hard class, knowing when and where to use spells. At the same time, this would seem to make their class boring, and depending on how the game is played, really not an option to wait for an 8 hour period to get spells back.

Will you have mana and spells just have a cost and cool down.

This would play like most other MMO's, something that PFO has tried to stay away from doing as much as possible. Although this does seem to keep them in the right for keeping up in damage output of the other classes.

Of maybe you have your own idea for how it should be done.

My idea would be that spells just have longer cooldowns, based on what spell it is and what level of the spell. Higher level spells would have a longer cooldown, obviously; where simple cantrips would only have a few minutes (in game time).

Different classes would have different ways on choosing spells and such.

Wizards will have their big spell lists, but choose what spells they can cast during the day. Possibly resting, or not getting into combat, for the 8 hours (in game time) will allow you to re-choose your spell outputs.

Sorcerers will have their entire book to sue, but at the same time have a smaller list to choose from.

This could also work towards the other classes that cast spells (clerics/bard/oracle/ect...)

What do you guys think? Should it be one of these ways, or do you have an idea for how spell casting should work?

I know some folk may hate this, but I'm seriously considering professional banditry. The mere fact it's a viable profession is inspiring, and those sellswords and guards need something to do don't they?

I had the same thought, but it would be awesome to just control a territory of our own and loot anyone who gets close.

Let the raiding begin!

Monk is a class not a profession. Blacksmith or Farmer are proffesions.

So would be bounty hunter, adventurer, plantation guard. Putting what class you want to play, along with a job, is something else that you can put down. But I am looking more for what it is you will be doing in the game.

They have posted a bit on their blog, but a bit more info would be nice to know. It does look like it will be very interesting thought, harvesting/mining.

Wow this picked up when i fell asleep. Interesting to see what everyone wants to try and do in this sandbox. It seems like just being an adventurer won't be something that most people try and be. Although, I could see why, being an adventurer is really hard in a setting like this; you never know what will be in that cave you just found.

I wonder if the Kickstarter has GW and Paizo rethinking some of their math?

What about the customers you may lose if they don't get an invite in the first few months?

I can see a VERY real occurrence of say 25000-50000 potential customers at launch and I can see a VERY real occurrence of frustration if month after month after month after month (just do the math) they are still "locked out"

ESPECIALLY those that have contributed (I'm in for $200 on just the tech demo, no telling what I'll pledge for the real launch Kickstarter)

((("At launch, and for the first seven months following, we will cap new paying players at 4,500 per month. Four thousand five hundred new paying players monthly. We expect to keep only about 25% of those players on a long-term basis...")))

Most of the stuff in their blog could easily change, they state this in every one. While i do agree the cap might increase a bit for the launch, I don't think they want everyone playing at once.

The point of starting lower let's them ease the world and let it fill. They will get sure to how servers will handle it and get more when needed. People will drop out and maybe allow those spots to be filled. But based on the kickstarter, the first group will easily be filled, assuming that a lot of people didn't pledge but still want into the game.

If you do the math for 4500 each month, and 25% of them drop out, then at the second month they will open up 4500 new spots PLUS fill in the 1125 (25% that dropped). So they will have a total of 10125 on the first month, and if the 25% keep dropping, they will easily fill up the 50,000 you think they will get in just 4 months.

Also, I don't see this game being THAT bit at launch. I see it as something that will go under the radar for most MMO fans, but the whole Pathfinder community will take interest, more than likely.

Just my thoughts.

Goblins chew and goblins bite.

Goblins cut and goblins fight
Stab the dog and cut the horse,
Goblins eat and take by force!

Goblins race and goblins jump.
Goblins slash and goblins bump.
Burn the skin and mash the head,
Goblins here and you be dead!

Chase the baby, catch the pup.
Bonk the head to shut it up.
Bones be cracked, flesh be stewed,

I'm going to play a woodsman. Gathering herbs, trapping and skinning will be my primary focus. If a tasty bounty comes up, might do that. If I run across a dungeon crawl, might do that. I plan on immersion playing skyrim-style.

Nice idea, I might actually just look into being an adventurer. Maybe something of a 'rogue for hire', for those groups who NEED that trapfinder/dooropener. Just for the right price. I mean, why go looking for dungeons when I can get someone else to do all of that.

Pathfinder will be the same way. Those posting on the forums about "bard classes do/do not suck" are most likely in for a rude awakening when the they find out they aren't getting Pathfinder-WoW/Everquest and are more or less getting Pathfinder-Eve/WoD. A game were as a farmer/miner I can be JUST as influential if not MORE than your "epic-ed out Wizard/Fighter". This is the game I want.

I couldn't agree with you more. I think someone could do wonders running around as a very charismatic bard.

Especially if they could make up their own songs off the top of their head. I would throw gold at them to see someone do that in game.

For some reason, i could see the harvesting/town lives being the more played role. I might just go with what isn't played much, see why it isn't and wonder what could be different.

Also, I hope you can play a goblin race, would be AMAZING!!!

Goblinworks Executive Founder

Going with the slow advancement of people allowed to play it will make a lot of people want in as early as possible. And they are right that a lot will drop out early on, so their slow approach is really smart and it lets them get it out sooner without compromising anything major.

Too funny, I went with $101. Just to put me a wee bit above the "100" club.

That's using your thinking cap!

Goblinworks Executive Founder

After reading their blog and learning about all of the different things you will be able to do in PFO; what will you be most interesting in having as your profession?

A noble knight who fights for the law? Or maybe the shady rogue who decides to let his adventure group do most of the work? Possibly a bounty hunter, testing their skills against murderers? How about the blacksmith who will make the weapons and hear tales of others adventures while hammering on the anvil? Maybe you would prefer the simple harvester who helps bring items and resources into the new world?

Anyway you choose seems that it will still be full of new and exciting stuff that will keep you interested. So, what will everyone try and do?

I will keep an eye out on this thread, thinking about joining/applying.
