"The problem is how much devastation a large enough group of infected reaching the city could cause before we successfully create a cure," Joseph says. "I think Silas's plan is probably the safest one - those of us who remain here would be able to hold out for quite a while, and let's be honest, Silas is the one among us who knows enough about this sort of thing to actually create the cure, and he doesn't need all of us to protect him. I wouldn't object to remaining here to keep the city safe while he works."
Male Human Magus (Kensai) (2)
Joseph looks at Moffrey. "Well, it's a good job we don't intend to take you to the city then. I believe Silas's home is some distance from there, making it a safe place to quarantine you while we get you cured." He then turns to Roland. "The doctor here believes he can cure the plague. I'm inclined to believe him. We will take every precaution to ensure the plague doesn't spread until we're successful. Every precaution."

Will: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Joseph raises an eyebrow, and then heads for the left hand armour, drawing his blade. To the particularly sharp eyed, it seems to have a strange glow as he swings it at his foe. GM: My move action is to get into melee with the left hand armour, and since my BAB is at +1, I get to draw my sword at the same time. My minor action is to give my weapon the +1 magical quality and my standard action is to take a swing at the enemy.

Joseph nods. "Yes, that would make sense." As the half-orc speaks to Caveth, Joseph speaks up, his tone turning sarcastic towards the end. "The plague has never spread to become an epidemic, and is magical in nature - having a cure for it means that if someone decides to unleash it again, fewer people end up dying as a result. Or are you suggesting that we burn all the medical texts and just kill everybody who ever falls ill?"
Male Human Magus (Kensai) (2)
1d20 - 1 ⇒ (7) - 1 = 6 "You would say that after I've given my word not to let anyone else die," Joseph says drily. He things for a moment. "You're right though. Seeing as we intend to come back at soonest convenience, he remains useful to whatever the being is that is controlling him; if we bring him with us, she may decide to sacrifice him in an attempt to drown the rest of us - or later on to attack the town. I'd hate to see a repeat of last night in the town..."
Male Human Magus (Kensai) (2)
Joseph looks to Moffrey and starts speaking calmly - the way he feels a man of his station should act. "He mentioned whatever caused this hating the rain. But don't worry; we'll find a way to solve this, I promise. Many poor unfortunates died prior to our arrival, but that ends now - you have my word on it." Diplomacy: 1d20 ⇒ 4 Here's hoping the dice treat me well... Well, it was worth a shot...
Male Human Magus (Kensai) (2)
1d20 - 1 ⇒ (11) - 1 = 10 I'm really not very perceptive... Joseph gradually climbs out of his blankets. He reckons there's enough light from the fire, just about, to read by, and he'd rather get this done before the others wake up. He opens up a book from his backpack and, while trying to keep an eye on his surroundings as well, he starts to read.
Male Human Magus (Kensai) (2)
"Well, the ammunition here will provide some help if there's no dry tinder for lighting fire," Joseph suggests, since nobody claims it. "I hear the powder is pretty flammable at least." Surely climbing a ladder should only require a die roll if you're doing it in a situation that makes it difficult? I mean, I'd probably have STR 8 or possibly even lower, in real life, and I can climb a ladder...
Male Human Magus (Kensai) (2)
1d20 ⇒ 19, 1d20 ⇒ 18, 1d20 ⇒ 20
Why couldn't I have those rolls while I was fighting? Meanwhile, there's nothing more fragile than my spellbook in the backpack, so unless you want me to roll for that... Joseph first checks the wagon, hoping to find his backpack intact. Fortunately, there was nothing fragile inside, so when he finds it still in one piece, he sighs with relief and heads over to the burning wreckage of the office to see what can be salvaged. He finds a damaged painting of a stag, which he tosses to one side in favour of the (miraculously) unexploded box of bullets and powder. "If any among us is able to use a firearm, they might find this useful," he says, offering it to anyone who might use it.
Male Human Magus (Kensai) (2)
"Who does?" Joseph asks the man, walking over to help him sit up. "More importantly, is there any shelter nearby? Sleeping under the stars would be a very bad idea in this weather." I just realised I lost track of my backpack through the whole combat thing - it had my spellbook and a few other supplies in it, and it would probably have been in the wagon when the stag ripped it to splinters...
Male Human Magus (Kensai) (2)
hp: 1d8 ⇒ 6 Best d8 I've rolled all game ;). Incidentally, hydrolic push is no longer prepared - if we get time to rest up and prepare new spells, I'll be preparing one each of Mage Armour (+4 AC) and Mirror Strike (allows me to hit two enemies at once, at +2 if they're flanking me, for half damage each - emergencies only).
Male Human Magus (Kensai) (2)
1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 "Hell's Bells..." Joseph grumbles to himself about a minute later, as he picks himself up from the blast. He knows he said it; he feels his throat vibrate, but he doesn't hear it. He looks around, hoping that there's nothing else planning to kill him. Let's see - I took 5 damage from the first lot of sonic, received a single hp of healing from Caveth (I think), and now took another 4 damage. One hit point left.
Male Human Magus (Kensai) (2)
Joseph takes another slice at the wounded beast, praying silently that this is the blow that takes it down. gm: Attack with Combat Expertise: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 7 rounds until the magical weapon effect runs out, AC 15 from Combat Expertise.

Kay Towerweed wrote: Hey, that's what barbarians are meant to do. Games are more fun when the risk of death is real. True enough. Just try not to do it in the first fight ;). That's actually why I have no problem with adversarial GMing - so long as all involved know that that's what's going to happen. My first GM was an adversarial GM, and he was also one of the best GMs I've ever had.
Male Human Magus (Kensai) (2)
Joseph begins to move calmly towards the stag. His blade gleams ever so slightly - enough that it could be one's imagination - as he gets closer. Just as soon as he gets close enough, he slices at the beast. gm: Move Action, close the gap; Swift Action, Arcane Pool (+1 weapon enhancement, it's now a magic weapon.); lasts 1 minute, or 10 rounds starting with this one, and I have 4 points remaining in Pool. Standard Action: Attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Male Human Magus (Kensai) (2)
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14 That was the will save; forgot to note that down
As Joseph manages to pull himself to his feet, he sees the stag outside of the window and sighs. "Well that won't do at all..." He steps out of the office, ready to do whatever he can against this monstrosity.
Male Human Magus (Kensai) (2)
Joseph doesn't bother opening the door - he simply tries to jump through the window. If it works, it looks a little like this. Acrobatics: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 I suspect it doesn't look anything like that.
