I almost forgot to mention this! We do a lot of retro-raiding for achievements, transmog gear, and the new companion pets that they've added. It's A LOT of fun to get to experience the old raids without the stress of dying instantly. Some of them are still kind of hard. Firelands seems crazy. I'd love to get a group of 90's together to blast through Firelands. I absolutely LOVED the molten front dailies and such. Would love to have some closure on that storyline...let Sectumsempra know if you're interested hehe. So, if you like doing that older stuff too or never go to do it, chances are we'd love to do that as a big group even if it's mega easy. It's just sorta fun to do when we're not in the mood to do anything hardcore or stressful. AND what's REALLY awesome about retro-raids/dungeons is that usually any levels can come that meet the requirements. ;o) I've been soloing a lot of the dungeons/raids for companions but AQ isn't possible by myself because of the prince bosses have to be fought separate. So lots of fun stuff!

Has anyone else been working on Pet Battles?

AlricLightwind wrote:
So I have a problem with seeing an empty character slot and having to fill them, then hopping from one character to another as the mood takes me. I know some guilds have an issue with alts, so I guess my question is are there limits to alts?

We do that all the time lmao! Sean does it way more than I do LOL! I usually only play alts when my main character is maxed out on the content, which she currently is on MoP stuff. Even professions. So, instead of doing the raids and getting sick of them already I'm sort of hanging on to the legendary questline for later ;o).

I logged in last night on my priest and immediately saw 2 dailies left undone and remembered why I stopped playing last month. The rep/valor grind this time around really sucked. 80 valor for the first 5 man, etc. I know they added the tokens before I left if you were revered iirc, I used most of them back then so getting exalted wont be that bad.

Still thinking about it though. :)

I hear so many people complaining about all the dailies in MoP but I absolutely love them and am somewhat sad that I'm exalted with everything. They're such a blast! I will admit though, the Master of the Ways was a little exhausting to get!

Maybe. The tech team is hesitant to add more subforums, but perhaps we can find a place for it, depending on activity.

On facebook we have a group for both guilds combined. ;o) Let me know when you become a member of either guild and we can add you to the facebook group! ;oD Generally, if we have events we put them into the calender on WoW so you can see what's coming up for the guild. Hope that helps!

There are a couple pending guild requests and we will get to them as soon as the people log on, I'll invite them ;o) I put a note in the message of the day for anyone who has the authority to check requests and invite them if they're online so hopefully it wont take too long to get added!

I just want to point out that our main goal is just to have more cool people online that we can group up with and do whatever. We have no specific goal in mind nor is it ever going to be some strict schedule. Having a dungeon night once a week is about as strict as we get. And I like that idea because it means if you log on, you're guaranteed to be able to play with a group at least that one day. For a lot of people, just like to play solo and chat in the guild about crafting or whatever. I think that's fun too! So whether you're not experienced at playing AT ALL or you're super experienced, we welcome you all. Doesn't matter. ;o) The only thing we DON'T want are hateful people trying to cause problems. And I'm sure it'll happen but we can easily correct that. Heheh!

Was doing hardcore raiding but burnt out so badly I started playing Never Winter Nights (the first one) instead. After some s+!@es & giggles. Nice idea a Paizo-staff-fan guild,S.

Awesome about playing NWN, did you ever play Baldur's Gate I or II? During college that's like all I ever let myself play because I knew WoW would be too much of a distraction from school! HAH! I sometimes get burned out from doing dailies for rep and even doing dungeons over and over (I really don't like repeating dungeons to death). If I get burned out I just take a few days off from playing or I'll switch to one of my lowbies and quest on them. My favorite thing is questing and rare-hunting.

Sunderstone wrote:

Ill make a decision by the weekend. I've been playing wow since release but took a hiatus a few times, the longest about 4 months. I just quit after we went 5/6 Mogushan Vaults 10m.

That said, I am casual but I do like to raid. I've played just about every class through the years to end game, so I'm not crazy about leveling a toon ATM, though Monk healing would be a possibility. I've GMed 2 end game guilds myself, one of which was the number 2 alliance guild on Fenris when Karazhan was new, I know how time consuming it can get and I don't have any desire to go "hardcore". One or two nights a week raiding would be optimal.
LFR on he other hand is out for me. I don't like large scale raids, I gave up that stuff when Naxx 40 man was new (after 5 months hardcore).
I'm not worried to much about transfers in general, I have over $1000 in transfers through the years :/ but if I do I'll go alliance since it is 2:1 as you stated, chances are I can get into a 10m raid every now and then. I miss my Priest but he's horde again ATM, so that transfer will cost more. :)

My Goblin Priest is Healiocity on Fenris for armory purposes. My Panda Resto Shaman is Takeout on Lothar.
My account is scheduled to expire tomorrow but who knows. The chance to play casually with Paizo and forum folks seems like fun. My itches to raid, not so much :P

We're not hardcore or planning to be. We thought it would be nice if people that WERE hardcore could join up with others that are hardcore and let the more casual gamers stay out of the serious gaming. Basically, it's a way to connect with like minded people. I personally think it would be great just to have someone help me do some rare hunting at times. I have tons of friends, who were once strangers, on my friends list from WoW that simply like to camp rares. It works great for me when I work because I just basically check my screen once in a while. So definitely we're not super hardcore or anything like that. We'll never pressure anyone to play, it's about fun...this isn't work and should not be treated as such!!!

What we'd LIKE to do, is have a specific "game night" for Alliance and the Horde side, inviting ALL levels to be online at the same time. From there everyone could pair up and do what they wanted to do. I sort of like the idea of winging it like that for a while because it gives us more options to see how the guild is going to form and play out. I personally think it'll be pretty fun just to have more people online!

Also, I think if no one is online at the time you want to join, you can send a request to join our guild. I think that would work just fine and we could then try to add you if you're online when we log in ;oD Hopefully you wont have to wait around TOO long for that.

About the Pandas: If you've not played one yet just know that if you start a panda you can't pick horde or alliance until around level 12 or 13 which also means you can't be added to a guild until you pick which faction you want. It's a bummer to not get those xp benefits right away but you really can level fast regardless. Also, there are no mailboxes in the starting area LOL!!!

Sunderstone wrote:
Also, are you planning on raiding?

I'd like to do some raids but we just don't have enough regulars to do so each week. I've been using the raid finder, it's pretty awesome! I even would like to go back and do some Cata raids as I didn't get to do any of them (the raid finder wasn't up then). My main is a NE Hunter. BM for questing MM for raiding.

Sean and I certainly don't, sorry. I'm not sure of anyone in our guild that does either. Brewyn wrote:

How serious are you guys planning to get? If it is anything more than 'not very' you are going to have to pick a faction, at least to start with. I get why you would want to have both, but you split your playerbase that way at the beginning and run the very real risk of neither getting beyond a random handful of people on at any one time.

As you know, server transfers get expensive quick. But I am sure quite a few people (myself included) would be willing to pay that cost if there was a clear idea of where the guild would be going and what we could expect. Just my 2 cents.

It's a game for fun, and once you start pressuring people to do stuff they're not all that jazzed about it turns into playing the game for someone else and not yourself--we are not going to be doing that. What it all boils down to is that this is a game and games are always more fun with more friends joining them. I don't want to make it seem like an unpaid job haha!

We split it horde and alliance because we've been doing this for a long time now because some of our friends prefer alliance (me) and some prefer horde. This way people can play what they want and enjoy it ;o).

We're absolutely NOT asking anyone to pay to transfer characters or do anything extravagant. We just wanted to open up the guild so that people can start and play characters with us. For me, leveling a character is the best part of playing. Plus, our guilds have perks that help with xp!

If you WANTED to transfer one, that's cool but I just don't want anyone to feel pressured to! ;o) Our Alliance guild is level 25 and our Horde guild is level 22. So, either way your lowbies are going to get decent bonuses ;oD

I recommend starting a new character on our server in our guild if you're that concerned about the situation. THEN, if you like the guild and want to continue you can transfer other characters. I understand why people would not want to pay to transfer to a different server if they've never played with that group before. I wouldn't at all. LOL!!! But I would start a new character there to test the water. It's really plain and simple--we wanted to have more players and felt like the paizo community would be a good place to recruit ;o)

During the banquet at PaizoCon 2012, Paizo CEO Lisa Stevens made a special presentation to Paizo VP of Operations, Jeff Alvarez.

Jeff Alvarez (COO, Paizo Publishing)

Please forgive the lack of facial clarity. The lighting in the room was very very dark, particularly compared to the presentation slides in the background.

So, in that video, we don't actually get to see Jeff come back into the banquet hall. I wish it'd been on the video. He came back in, carrying a dinner plate with a bacon-cheeseburger and fries. He walked to my table, set it down, and after a brief handshake, left me sitting there amazed and stunned.

I was the customer that Jeff was off helping.
The dinner buffet for the banquet had run out of food, and I was basically the last person in line. I'm an insulin-dependant diabetic, and it's kind of a big deal for me to have to be able to eat when I take my insulin. While I'd obviously heard his name, I didn't realize that *he* was Jeff Alvarez, until he had his arm around my shoulder telling me that he was going to make it right for me. He was both conforting and insistent, telling me that if I didn't tell him what I would like to eat, he was going to go to the hotel bar, and order me a bacon-cheeseburger and fries.
It wasn't his mistake, it wasn't even Paizo's. It was the hotel kitchen staff's fault. But, Jeff went out of his way to help me. In the middle of the banquet, when he would've been accepting his promotion to COO, he was hand-carrying my dinner to my table.

*That*, to me, is just about the best example of why I love Paizo.
And why I won't ever forget Jeff.
... Thanks, man. You're the best.

I'll never say it enough--Jeff deserves that title so much. He's absolutely the best for the position. Always going out of his way to help people out...even me, a total trouble maker (just kidding). I've seen him help people so much since I've been in the Paizo family. I love it. I'm glad we got to hear what happened during that--I saw him carrying a plate of food, had no clue what actually happened. ;o) This post is awesome and another CHEER to Jeff! ;oD Paizo's products are outstanding and it'd be pretty hard to beat how great they treat their fans/friends AND employees!

You, Sean, and Vic are all awesome. In your own ways.

You for expressing an atypical opinion that sexy doesn't mean denigrating, humiliating, or oppressing. I'd admit that last year's pictures of you as Amiri conveyed "sexy lady". This post (amongst others) has added "cool person who doesn't toe the line". Not that you need my approval but good on you.

Sean for supporting you without supporting you. Subtle, but he's basically just underlined your point, not played Mr. Overprotective.

Vic for dodging the bullet by coming up with an answer we can all live with.

Seems Paizo and the people around them are all just cool folks.

Awwww thank you ;o). And you're right...they are cool folks!

Dark Archive

Also, when I say "sexy" armor I don't mean just wearing two band-aids and a cork. I mean, stuff that is appealing. I know Sarah Robinson wont let me down ;o). And if PFO goes anywhere near the iconic gear, I will be totally happy with that! Obviously, I am visually pleased with Amiri's gear ;o). I do know that type of gear in REAL LIFE is not practical what-so-ever. But like I have said many times in similar discussions, if I wanted to be realistic, I would not play Pathfinder or any other fantasy games for that matter. I love these games because I think reality sucks most of the time. ;o) I *want* Amiri's armor to be realistic in the Pathfinder world.

The Grey Maiden's full plate, to me, is appealing because you can tell that she's a fit woman. I want my female characters to look awesome. And I want for people playing male characters to be able to play that beefcake they want and show it off if they want ;o). I don't think anyone should be 'forced' to wear skimpy outfits I just want it to be in the game so I can get it for my character. And I don't want Paizo to avoid creating it thinking that fans will argue the whole cheesecake argument like they did with that gorgeous Seoni Christmas card--I loved it.

Because I am female, I like to make sure I stand up and speak out FOR these things before someone has a chance to talk down about it. This year, it seems like I have gotten in more debates about sexy armor and cheesecake than I ever have in my life! And I make bikinis for a living! Hah! Other than being married to Sean, the coolest thing about being female is the awesome cosplay we get to pull off. Keep that dream alive! LOL!

You know, because I never play male characters on Warcraft I don't notice this issue until I team up with some of my friends who play male characters (seems like few)...most play females. The male shoulderpads are crazy-huge. I guess it's just because the male characters are as well. And to me, that's okay, but I agree they look a little crazy sometimes. If thee Mrs. Sean K Reynolds can vote in this:

Okay, this was a very tough vote for me to cast. I'll be honest, I'm a little biased toward a couple of the competitors due to the fact we're personal friends. However, with that completely aside I decide to make the vote based on construction, durability, skill, as well as detail.

I know it needs zero explanation but I love to over-explain.
One very important factor in cosplaying is FUN (or the appearance of haha). I am going with the competitors that I can see had the most fun, chose costumes that suited them the best and allowed them to wear their costume longer than a trip to the booth and back to their room. Personally, I think if you're going to compete in a costume contest you should be judged on skill/detail as well as the act of wearing the costume (how you pose, length of wear, and if you look comfortable). Last year I wore Amiri for seriously 9 hours total for the Con...and I know Lora wore her Witch costume more or near that amount...not sure how we did that. LOL! Much respect to anyone who can wear a costume in hot/sticky Indiana for more than 1 hr haha!

I choose the *Pathfinder Adventure Party*. We're voting on them as a group/team right? I hope so!

I think they looked like they were having a blast together, they looked comfortable and they each chose a costume that looked good on them! I believe I recall seeing them all day in their outfits! And look at the group pose! They're in sync with one another...I'm guessing they're good friends?

Every single costume in this line up is fantastic and you all did great! I'm glad I'm not the only person who gets this hobby! ;o) I cannot wait to see who shows up in costume at PaizoCon and GenCon 2012!

I think most of the time they allow real-looking swords and things just as long as it is accompanied by a costume. Not REALLY sure though because it seems like it's hit and miss? Who knows. They let me in with my rocket launcher just fine but it didn't look anywhere near a real AT4 or anything.

Dark Archive

Hey gamers!

I'm working hard on a new version of Amiri. We've actually been calling the new Amiri the Mark II (We love Iron Man). So, I'll be selling the old version that many of you saw last year at GenCon! If you're interested in owning this costume I'd love to discuss selling it to you! Just send me a quick email if you're interested in it: jodisturdevant@gmail.com

I will be posting this costume on ebay in a week or so. Not sure when exactly but I will update this thread as soon as I do! I just wanted to give the fans here and friends the first opportunity to get it. It will be a fair price, no worries. The outfit has I think 15 pieces entirely: 8 armor pieces (boots included in that count), criss-cross top, skirt, some accessories, the wig and so on. Whatever I have for the costume I will include. I am not planning on re-using any of the costume to make my new one. I would rather not have to throw away any of the old Amiri costume. That would break my heart! I will even place my "Jodi Lane" tags in the costume so that you can be sure it's from me!

Sizing information:
I made this to fit me, so if you saw me in person you'd get an idea but if not: 5'3" 120 lbs 34/24/36 Boots are 7.5 or 8 US. The arm pieces are also worn like sleeves, and my biceps are about 11 to 12". The leg pieces are flexible so it could fit a variety of leg sizes. Just ask if you're curious (I'm fantastic at predicting fittings...that's what I do for a living). I wont be making any alterations to this costume, but I can tell you how to do that if you buy it and want to make it fit nicer.

A link to my facebook album of the costume:
Amiri MARK I.

Hope some lucky girl gets to play Amiri this year!

What's funny, is that it's actually true! When I play True Dungeon I warn all the other players that I cannot be trusted with puzzles. I used to think I would be excellent at puzzles...nope...true heart of a fighter. LOL!

Anyway, what about a Game made for PC?
One that has the controls of temple of Elemental evil.
maybe better graphics
Has tools built into it that
A) allow you to connect online with friends
B) create user content using the current product lines
C) allow players and DMs to play together online on a DMs module/world
D) Have tools much like the campaign cartographer for making maps
E) allow ALL content to be printable so that both a Pen and paper game can be running while another person say halfway around the world can be right there and play along.

I know this is ambitious, but quite frankly, if Paizo could pull this off they would literally revelutionize the industry.

with some creidt and such going to me maybe?
=) anyway ill be back on later after work.

Are you referring to something like D20pro? I don't think it's linked with Paizo or anything specifically but you can create your own games on it using certain tools for maps and stuff. I've not used my copy of it yet but I'm going to this winter while I have down time. You should at least check it out. d20pro.com. If you order it, let them know I sent you okay?

To Jodi I just want to remind I am not an applicant for this position and it is not due to the degree requirement (which wouldn't stop me from applying if my boyfriend and I weren't tied down to New Jersey) and that I have volunteered for paizo before and don't see why volunteering suggests that I am not a good fit.

What I meant by that, was if you HAVE to volunteer and work for free until you're recognized then you are in no way qualified for a developer position. Sometimes those guys have to REWRITE entire sections that freelancers mess up on, don't turn in or fall out in some other way. I've seen that happen often and you gotta be able to hop on that job without warning at the last minute. Someone that has to work for free to prove themselves does not sound like they could be a good candidate for a job that has a lot of responsibility.

Now, you could definitely do some self publishing (working for free, but not working for Paizo yet) until you're recognized...that's the key. Go for it, I look forward to seeing things you publish, post links on here to your works. I am SURE you'd get TONS of feedback. ;o)

Eew.

I've read legal documents written by lawyers, and I've read RPG books written by writers. I'll take the RPG book written by a writer any day of any week.

I'm going to agree with James here that they're quite a bit different! Hehe. I like them both but yeah, different.

(Blame my phone for any typos/capitalization errors)

College is a farce except for scientific fields (engineering, medical, etc).

Anecdotal evidence:

I went to school for a semester this year, first time since I dropped out of a video game school (where I learned that I hate to code and can't draw). I decided to go for a history degree and took world civilization 1, intro to cultural anthropology, history of new jersey and research papers.

They were fun, I got along great with three of the professors and I thibk they really enjoyed having someone in the class who wasn't just doing high school part 2. I learned a few things but nothing I couldn't have learned from spending a few hours on wikipedia. I could have (and have) learned more from spending $30 in the history section of barnes & noble. I aced the courses and ruined the curve, getting a perfect score on my world civ final.

All I have to show for it is being 2000 dollars poorer. If a job doesn't want me because I am smart enough to see a scam for my money...their loss. Many of the most successful people in the world are college dropouts. The self starting and ambitious, I am one of them and perfectly happy to strike out on my own.

This isn't specifically directed at this job posting, I would do it for free until recognized as worth being paid if paizo wasn't 3000 miles away.

The thing is, any job posting that wants a degree or equivalent experience is actually pretty generous. And it makes sense that THIS particular industry would be fine with the equivalent experience because you clearly don't HAVE to go to school to be in this type of career.

One thing is for sure, this is a difficult career to get into. So, I think that if they're going to choose someone that has no proof of commitment (college) they need some sort of evidence that you stick with the projects you're given. If you cannot show them that, then you're probably out of luck this time.

You may not be able to walk right into a game developer's position with no experience/degree but why not start smaller like ALL OF THE OTHER PEOPLE who work at Paizo have. They did not all start out at the top, they started with smaller things like freelancing and etc. THAT is the whole purpose for RPG Superstar...

When you stated, "I would do it for free until recognized as worth being paid..." that shows that you don't have any credibility in the gaming industry. Which a lot of people starting out don't...so don't get upset that you're not technically "qualified" for a game developer position. My husband is a developer and someone with no experience in the industry would be SOOOO LOST. I'm SURE you're very smart and would easily achieve your degree, but the truth is, it's not something that an inexperienced person can walk right into. I have a degree, been playing RPGs since I was young, am very creative, own my own business, and I could NOT do their job probably even if I trained to. LOL!

If you're as ambitious as you SAY you are, then start working on stuff of your own. Try some self publishing, I think Sean has posted links on how to get into that. And networking is one of the biggest aids in this country to getting a good career. It really is how most people get their jobs. I'm sure it has a lot to do with this particular industry because a successful game developer will have formed a good reputation about their work and friendships along the way. This would be a good time to start attending conventions and getting to know people.

It's fair to require some sort of college to prove commitment and/or equivalent experience to proof your worth and reputation.

Whenever this situation arises that you don't have the EXACT qualifications that are posted on the job ad, apply anyway. You never know, if your app is good enough (writing sample included) then you may at least get noticed and they'll remember you later down the road after you've improved your resume a bit.

Start building up your resume with whatever related work you can. Not many people can walk right out of college with their degree and get a great job. I know this for a fact!

I went to college for four years (honors), 3.9 GPA, and I still had a rough time finding work here in Seattle that would pay me enough to live with lol. I actually ended up keeping my own business that I had started during college for extra money. That is what I do full time now. And the same with my business, I had to form friendships, network at conventions, and really prove myself to earn the clients that I have. Things workout differently for everyone, and honestly had I not gotten the degree I would not have been able to form my business or network well.

Good luck!

If I were looking at RPG Superstar as a participant, I'd look at it not as a contest or a competition (whatever that distinction may be) but as a job interview. And I wouldn't show up at my interview wearing fuzzy bunny slippers and then expect to be taken seriously.

I TOTALLY agree with this. I mean, what is the point of submitting to this contest if you're not going to take it seriously? Why bother? Do you think your "funny" item is going to get noticed by the judge and they'll reward you for how much it made them laugh? Umm no. They're going through tons of submissions...I'm sure "funny" gets old real quick. Most of the items or other things in the books are not "funny."

Mayyy beeee. Hah, no! ;o) This is a funny thing going on in James Jacobs' campaign. We killed lots of Derro and then Rob's character Balazar (Gnome) grabbed up some of the armor that we got from them--and it was from a female Derro. So, naturally, for the rest of the time we play this campaign he'll be reminded he is still wearing the, "sexy Derro armor." HAHA! So great.

Yeah! Well, He had only brought ONE deck of item cards with us to NeonCon. Oddly enough there were exactly two ring cards within. See, we did not plan to get married in Vegas when we left for NeonCon, otherwise I'm sure there would be more fancy cards hah! And thank you! ;o)

Well if I remember the story SKR chased a Jodi at GENCON 2009 and handed her one of those cards from gamemastery. So it is only fitting they tie the know with them ;-)

Sure did! And yeah, of course it was just perfect. Everything was fitting together so perfectly when we did this--meant to be!

I love being married to a gamer too, it's amazing to be with someone forever that has SO much in common with me. LIMITATIONS
VULNERABILITIES: Kryptonite/Supergirl is vulnerable to kryptonite, an irradiated ore from her home planet of Krypton. She is powered by a particular wavelength of light which happens to be rather abundant in our sun. Kryptonite either destroys or interrupts this becoming because it’s radiation s in a band which is similar to sunlight, but causes a different process to occur. In other words, the kryptonite radiation “chases out” the sunlight. There are different spectrums of kryptonite and its effects on Supergirl are as follows:

Green Kryptonite/Causes her body’s cells to deteriorate, similar to radiation poisoning in a human being. Exposure to Green Kryptonite causes Supergirl to lose all her powers at –CS per round. She also loses 1 rank of Strength and Endurance (with its loss of Health) per round until death occurs at Shif-0Endurance. Removal of the green kryptonite enables Supergirl’s body to regain lost ranks at a rate of 1 per round.

Magic/Supergirl likely has the same vulnerability to magic attacks as Superman. Magical attacks directly effects Supergirl ignoring any resistances or invulnerabilities. Further more any magical effect is increased +1 CS in duration against Supergirl.

Solar Absence/Supergirl’s powers are based on solar radiation from Earth’s yellow sun. Should she be deprived of this radiation for an extended period she will lose all of her powers.
