Hey there! I'm about to start DMing for a new group of players and one wants to be a potion maker that havests monster parts to make potions. The idea sounded cool but I found that the existing rules didn't tickle my fancy so I spent a bit of time cranking out a new formula. Let me know what you guys think!

Harvest requires appropriate Knowledge check per tier then Heal or Survival check to harvest.

Value = Rarity x Tier x CR x (% Over/Under Base Weight for Tier 1 and 2)

I know the human thing is gross but I had to do it because it's the most basic of basic monster types.

I figure first two tiers will always be non magical (ie Hide, Meat, Bones) and that they will be multiplied by the creature's weight relative to that of an average human 157.5 lbs. according to pathfinder. This is so farmers can actually make a profit off their cows without having to resort to witchcraft!

Tier 3 will always be blood and will always be used for the component cost of cure related items such as potions of cure light woulds or a wand of cure light wounds. Every 5 CR the level of cure spell would go up. CR 1 monster is cure light wounds while CR 6 is moderate ect ect. This is so healing items are the most commonly constructed items as they serve the most use imo.

Tier 4 and 5 will always be for magical purposes and would serve as a replacement for the component cost of any magical item matching the spell listed beside the they could be used for aka Human Brain could be used for a potion of Human Potential but not for a potion of heroism.

Tiers 3-5 would be able to be used as substitutes for the component cost or correlating magic items equal to double their listed value here.

So what do you guys think? I'm hoping for some valuable feedback here.

Also hoping for some help with monster rarity. Does my list look good? Anything you would move around? Any other monster you would add? Let me know!


Hey thanks for the reply! Looks like you've given me quite a few options to check out and if all else fails I suppose I just hope I'm working with a caster that has mending. Thanks again for the help!


Hey, so I'm trying to make a tripping whip build and want to use the Fury's Snare feat but don't want my whip to break all the time due to it being my Heirloom Weapon. The whip ordinarily breaks after use of this ability if the opponent makes a measly DC 10 Strength check to burst the whip. Any idea of a material the whip could be made out of to increase the burst DC or even something that will just easily repair the whip after this kind of use?


So my question is if the feat Combat Advice can work on your own summoned monster if you don't share a language?

According to the text of the feat "For your ally to benefit from this feat, you must be able to clearly see your ally and the designated enemy, and your ally must be able to hear you."

And that's it. The description doesn't say it has to understand you or share a language so what would you guys say?

Jix stayed near the back of the group, she had never really been one of the smart ones, good at investigation and figuring things out, she was more of a girl of action but at the sight of the wax one thought did cross her mind from her years of experience with the underworld."Sometimes wax is used to make molds of things, like keys n' the such. So's that they can cast the mold later into the actual thing." The ratfolk shrugged nonchalantly, "Just a thought."

Jix trudges along behind the party making suere to keep a low profile. This town was clearly on the very edge of a major collapse and Jix was sure of just one thing, she didnt want to be caught up in the,middle of all of it.

Jix took a sigh of relief when the crowds dispersed and gave a smug grin to the others extremely satisfied in what she had helped accomplish and eager to gloat about it already if it werwnt for the chance anyone she didnt want to know could hear her bragging about her little fib.

For the time being she foxuses her attention on the sheriff with an itchy trigger finger. She had no love in her heart for bigots and this man was the worst kind of bigot. A violent unhinged one.

Jix nodded along stoicly as Median reasoned with the crowd, honestly she had been doing a very impressive job and Jix couldn't help but wonder if she were sliping in a bit of divine magic to help pacify the crowd as one by one they all began to lose their demented fervor for blood.

"'Sides," The cunning ratfolk began to address the crowd as well. "They say what that killin' a fetchling in cold blood brings a terrible 'aunting down on the killer's family for generations they do. Say it's impossible to 'scape that there curse an' that every moment is a living 'ell from that moment on." she spins her bold faced lie, preying on the commoner's lack of knowledge and knowing how simple it was to convince the common man of sorcrey where none existed at all.

A sick feeling welled up in Jix's stomach as she looked on at the proceedings, being a ratfolk growing up in mostly human settlements and in poverty she knew what it was like to be the subject of discrimination and suspicion, even if the latter was well eearnd given thr girl's penchant for pocketing things that didn't belong to her.

She nudged at Tish and noddwd her head at the mob before them, "We should probably do somethin' to calm this 'ere sitchiation down afore the villagers decides what that the new people in town are to blame fer all this rot next. Think ya could manage a little charm 'ere Tish?"

Jix gawked about the room as they entered. She had never entered the home of a noble before and seeing all the opulence in this place was certainly a first for the girl. Pshh some people just so sodding full of 'emselves. What is this place if not a temple dedicated to 'emselves? She grunted as she glanced about the home and tried to place herself in an unnoticeable position by pressing herself up between Irian and the wall. Noble folk had a nasty habit of disliking rats after all.

Jix shifted her glance briefly to Lia as she made her way over to the ratfolk's side before resettling her stern,expression on the villagers about the wagon. "Mmm, seems fair certain to me what that they be tryin' to keep somethin' out dunnit? I mean they keep placin' those torches outside their 'omes like tis the only thing stavin' off a brutal 'n' swiff death. Jus' keep yer eyes peeled eh Snowflake? Dun need you added to the kindlin' now do we?"

As the band of adventurers enter the town Jix glances quizzically around at all the fires. Not that she didn't enjoy attending the occasional bonfire but something about this seemed off to the young rat girl.

When the hungry stares came from the townsfolk towards their wonderful magic wagon Jix made a point to fix everyone who dared gaze with wanting eyes at their wagon with a deadly glare. Rapping her fingers against her crossbow which sat across her lap in her perch atop the Good Noodle. To ensure the townspeople would know that they would not tolerate theft of their property.

When Jix saw the baths laid out before her a rush went straight though her body. It had been soooo long since she had a bath and it would be nice to finally wash off all the caked on dirt and mud. She made certain to keep her enthusiasm hidden however, she couldn't risk letting the others find out she had a slightly more effeminate side after all. Thus she crept off to the side whilst the others quarreled among themselves and slipped away into the steam of the bath room.

Slipping off into a private corner where she could be sure no one could see her the young woman glanced around furtively to ensure all was safe and then with a sigh began tugging away at the straps of her garb. With a click, her heavy leather armor slid off the woman's slender frame and fell to the floor her she quickly piled her leather leggings atop them and took in a deep breath of the steam-filled air and exhaled allowing herself to unwind as her slender chest heaved. It had been a long and stressful day, and despite the reward at the end of it all, the quest had really taken a toll on the young woman.

Dipping one paw gingerly into he placid surface of the pool sent ripples cascading along the water. Finding the temperature to her liking, if a bit warm, the ratfolk gingerly lowered herself into the welcoming waters of the spa, leaning her back against the walls off the bath as she held her arms open wide on the land behind her, finding her way into a very relaxed position. She could feel the tension in her muscles being teased out by the sapping heat of the water and her mind began to fog and wander as a sense of ease overcame her. Leaning her head back Jix looked up at the ceiling above and began to wonder about those she had left behind. Something in her yearned to get back to her old caravan, not that she didn't enjoy this whimsical romp but, there was a feeling of unresolved business that came to mind whenever she thought of those she used to travel with. Jix wondered if the others were like this too. Did they also think of home? Of family and friends they had left behind? A slight smirk crept up on her features as she tried to imagine the idea of haughty Tish actually missing anyone.

After a few hours of reclining and thinking Jix stepped out of the bath, fur completely sodden and shaggy, and went to grab a towel to wrap around her body as she dried off. Neatly tucking herself into the towel she grabbed the rest of her armor, bundled it up under her arm, as strode, fresh and confident out back to the main room of the Good Noodle before finding her way to the pillow room and finding a nice private corner she could tuck herself away in for the night.

Morning arrived with the sight of a new letter from their mysterious benefactor as Jix strode out of the pillow room, once again full dressed and ready for combat should the need arise. The rogue stared at the letter for a time and, if one were to pay attention, the would likely come to the conclusion that through her squinted golden eyes and her lips moving silently along with the text, she is having some difficulty with the reading, though the meaning of the words does eventually come to her.

Thinking of all the luxurious rewards they have had so far, and the fact that she has no idea where her old caravan is at this exact moment Jix shrugs and slowly scrolls the word "JINX" in big bold, childish letters in the signature section.

As for any information or supplies that were needed Jix rapped her claws against the surface of the wood for a time and thought of their adventure yesterday. Her mind seemed to settle on the moment where Snowflake was in danger right beside her and she could do nothing but hurriedly reload her crossbow, completely useless in that moment. Snatching up the scrap of paper and the quill, Jix scrawled in awkward, poorly worded handwriting, "Could give me something wont have to reload so often?" She then hurriedly adds, hoping no one can see. "And is old caravan okay?"

Jix's face contorted with indigence for a moment then found its way into a subtle smile as she let the insult/compliment sink in she folded her arms behind her head and leaned back casually stretching herself out after all her time in captivity. "Well I suppose not everyone kin appreciate true beauty when they see it." She breathily responded, displaying her own cocky nature once more before her golden eyes drifted awkwardly away from the mesmerist. "'n' I suppose you aren't the worst company I coulda asked fer on this 'ere jaunt . . ." She mouthed uncharacteristically quietly to the side before returning her gaze to the woman and smirking. "Though you are obviously still a complete and utter wanker."

Jix followed Tish and the group as they met up with the carnival woman. When the woman mentioned a small heap of drugs Jix found her ears perking briefly. Drugs? What kind of drugs? 'arlot sweets? 'Cause 'onestly I could go fer a few 'arlot sweets about now. But she just shrugged and remained a background feature for this conversation until the group left after which she set about to find the nearest general store to see if she could get her hands on a better set of thieves' tools or something else of interest with her new fat sack of gold.

Jix can hardly restrain herself when she first lays eyes on the hoard of loot bestowed upon the party. It isn't long after Lia begins digging through the items that the rat follows her and begins happily unearthing anything that looked interesting. For a moment her eyes lingered upon a pair of rather dashing boots but just as she was about to reach out for them, Tish swiped the stunning pair, swift and practiced as a magpie.

The ratfolk's face soured for a moment as she scowled up at the mesmerist before returning to her search through the pile of goods. She set her sights next on a small leather cord, just big enough to wrap delicately around her finger. The rogue spent a minute admiring the texture of the ring of climbing before she slipped it on. Jix had always been a fan of leather anyways so it just felt natural to go along with her current equipment.

After taking her share of the gold she turned back around just in time to catch the warrior Irian mid leer at their comely companion and her vision narrowed as her lips slipped into a knowing grin. "I suppose the the little lech 'as proven 'isself to be a right corker. Got no problems letting' 'im an' 'is missus tag 'long provided 'e kin keep 'is eyes on the road 'n' off yer 'indquarters, that is." Jix sneered all too pleased to draw attention to the warrior's rather shameless glances.

Returning her focus to Tish the young rat shrugged. "As fer meself, personally. I don't mind accompanying you lot for a time longer, but I do feel I should get back to me caravan at some point should we find 'em 'long the way. I been away plenty long enough already, poor knobs will prolly get themselves killed without me 'round to save their sorry hides." She chuckles to herself. "We should go talk to whoever it is we need to 'ave words with. Cause then I'd like to take some o' this coin to the market to pick me up some odds 'n sods afore we 'ead on out."

She spares a casual glance down at Tish's feet as she struts around and scowls, "Bit gaudy don't ya think?"

. . . . I was very confused and very wrong xD Tish you can have the boots of the cat I don't need them. I was thinking cat burgler's boots. So I suppose I'll just take the ring of climbing.

As for cash, I'll just end up converting my share into flaming doom anyways.

As for items, looks like we can each get two and then have two left over. So shall we each pick one expensive thing and one cheap thing?

I have interest in boot of the cat primarily

No intrest in the armor (that Armor check penalty is just too high) or any of the weapons really.

Other than that the Scroll of see invisibility, ring of climbing, ring of protection, lens of detection, and the cash all have interest to me.

Anyone else have any opinions or preferences?

After the fighting was done, Jix found her way back to the rest of her equipment and quickly slipped back into her armor before rejoining the rest of the group by the sheriff.

"Well, I suppose I could be doin' with somethin' to make me a little more quiet that wouldn't go astray I assure ya." The rogue suggested with a signature, smug grin as the thought of payment lifted her spirits. A little kidnapping and beating was well worth it if she got paid after all.

Her golden eyes soon found themselves settling over the two new companions her team seemed to have picked up alon the way and she approached them with a scrutinizin expression. "Now who in Calistria's name are you lot anyways? Ya sure seemed to know 'ow to 'andle yourselves in that madness least it seems fair to say."

Jix reached out a hand to the warrior perking one ear slightly in acknowledgement, "Name's Jix by the by."

Jix's golden eyes widened as the room became thick with thieves and she tucked herself as deep into the shadows as possible while she watched them round on her compatriot.

Well, better her then me anyways, poor little Snowflake.

Even then the adrenaline was starting to pump her chest was rapidly heaving back and forth as she struggled to contain her emotion and load another round into her heavy crossbow, knowing full well Lia's life may depend on the next shot.

Jix hissed as the thief's bolt embedded itself in the wall directly beside her head. That was almost bad.

Frustrated with herself for how her over-eagerness caused her to miss the shot, Jix vowed vengeance. Staring her foe down with cold golden eyes for a moment before she suddenly shifted her body weight in a feint as though she were headed for more cover behind the door, only to roll to the opposite side of the door a stealthily as she could muster.

It was odd that she didn't recognize the other two but seeing Lia at least let her know that these folk were, for sure, on her side.

As chaos erupts in the room in an instant, Jix does her best to remain calm under pressure and stick to the shadows for now. If she were to be caught in this state she certainly wouldn't last long. Still, as a surfeit of skunks began to appear in the room and let rip on the hapless thieves it was all she could do to stifle her laughter as she silently edged her way toward the chaos.

Jix raised a brow at the strange stance of the woman on the far side of the second story. Some kind of alchemical solution no doubt. But more so than that she realized there was only one more place her weapons could possibly be.

Silent as the night Jix slipped back down the ladder and began creeping along towards he front of the room, careful to hug the shadows as she went along.

Yay! I didn't die! Well I'm coming for my weapons and figured out how to move my character piece on the map. Just everyone be aware it's probably gonna take me 8 rounds to get there. Being short is good for stealth but it makes Jix a little on the slow side. Also, I realize I should be at +21 to stealth right now as opposed to my typical +23 since I dont have my stealth bonus item on me I'd assume, fortunately looking back it seems that hasn't changed anything and I will be rolling the lower number until I manage to get my equipment back.

Jix groand internally, there was no sight of here weapons in this room which ment the only way to go was up. And as a far as she could see there was only one way up, the ladder. If she were to continue her search for her weapons she would need to head up there and she was well aware of just how ludicrously risky that was. If someone were standing there waiting she didn't have any means to defend herself, no weapons, no armor. She knew that if she got caught there she was dead, but it was either that or she would have to stand by silentry as all her companions did all the fighting for her. And that was no fun at all.

Bracing herself. She made her way up the ladder as quietly as she was able.

All seemed to be going surprisingly well, at first, for Tish's rebutal to Jix's scathing remarks. Playing to Jix's smug, self-confidence was always a winning strategy for those seeking to placate her. If Tish squinted she could possibly even notice a slight blush of embarrassment cross the young ratfolk's cheeks under her ebony fur upon Tish's comment about them having overestimated Jix's skills. When in a slip of the tounge, the raven haired beauty slipped up.

Jix's jaw physically dropped in the midst of the comely ex-courtesan's excuses. "No 'arm, no foul?" She stammered barely able to believe what she had just heard. "No 'arm, no bloody foul?! Are you 'avin' a laugh?! Oh sure. . . They treated me like a right princess, they did. Can't ya tell from me newest makeover?" She indicted to a few fresh scars as she hissed at the woman.

"Just count yerself lucky ya showed up when ya did, 'cause I'd a been REALLY miffed if'n they'd gotten 'round to auctioning me lovely self off, so I would 'ave."

She then turned her attention to Owl and sullenly shook her head. "'fraid I've been kept in the dark for the most part 'ere Bird Brain. These dodgy gits may be mad as a bag o' ferrets but they're careful 'nough to not drop a clanger like leavin' me wonderful self within eyesight o' me weapons. As far as I'm aware Othy ain't 'ere no more Tish 'n' as far as lendin' a paw to 'elp wipe up these gits goes, I'd do so wit' great pleasha I assure you, but they took all me gear so I'm a tad limited as of right this moment, so I am." Jix grumbled as she worked her way into towards the door, back pressed against the wall.
