In the description on p.13 it declares "All of the tightly shuttered
windows have wooden frames with filthy, mold-encrusted glass panes."

Does this mean there are wooden shutters covering each window?
If so, how could the players see the broken windows?

Or should it be "tightly shut windows"?

Anyone know what Elsir's cursed ring should be doing?

Considering that they get their first witch feat at level 2 and there are enough 2nd level witch feats.

So thanks for the nudge (see previous post here from yesterday) the purchase went through.

So I tried again with a second card deck and the same thing happened.
What is going on?

For 2 days I've been trying to buy a digital product and step 3 always does the same.

I press the red Place Your Order symbol and the page reloads showing me exactly the same screen albeit without the 3 steps above and below.

I've used Chrome, Edge and Firefox. I also disabled all the extensions and still the same result.

Please tell me what is wrong.

Please refund me the declined Bestiary 2 purchase.

I am getting extremely frustrated as this card works all over the place.
Paypal, Fantasy Grounds, Amazon, Gas Stations.

Hi,

I have ordered lots of items but now all of a sudden the credit card is declined but my account is not reporting a declined payment, instead there is a payment for the correct amount on hold on my account. I entered a different credit card but when I enter the cvv number and press continue the screen doesn't move on and I've tried this in chrome and edge browsers.

Please fix this. And instead of refunding the payment please add the product to my digital library.

This is very frustrating.

P.S. this credit card still works at gas stations, amazon, ebay, etc.

Hi,

I've tried ordering The Bestiary 2 several times.
I now have been charged 6 times and have one pending charge and
the PDF is still in my cart and not in my digital content.

Please refund all the erroneous charges, refuse the pending charge and put the pdf in my content.

The charges were charged as follows:

12:10 7.31.
12:10 7.31.
12:12 7.31.
12:13 7.31.
12:19 7.31.
14:28 8.1.

and just now I tried again so pending at 19.50 8.8.

Thank you for a prompt resolution.

BTW, I already tried deleting it from tha cart and adding it again.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The goblin trait Burn it! adds a status bonus equal to half the the spell's level.
1) is this round up or down?
2) if a cantrip (produce flame) is automatically heightened does this mean at CL 3 it counts as a 3rd level spell for this trait?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I just whipped this up and wanted to share it with you.

Enjoy. Hero Point Token

Hi,

am going to be running Scarwall in 2-3 months.
Does anyone have any suggestions for minis?

- Farnaby

I'm going to run The Silverhex Chronicles soon and came up with the question what if, Gods forbid, I get a party of 6 Lini's.

Can I have multiple copies of the same pregen running in the same adventure?
As this is PFS I need a link to the ruling because I've searched and couldn't find it.

Thanks - Farnaby

I have a player that has been bitten by a wererat.
The cure is a cure disease, or remove curse by a 12th level cleric.

According to the book it costs CL x spell level x 10 gp.
This is then 360 gp for a 12th level cleric casting remove curse.

That sounds too cheap. Any ideas to make it quite unattainable or harder and/or more expensive?

So one of my players contracted lycanthropy from a wererat and according to the rules, it needs a remove disease or remove curse from a level 12 cleric.

Which brings me to my questions:

What level clerics to the various churches have in Korvosa?

Is there a standard formula for the size of a town or city that I can't find?

Hi,

my group is going to enter the mansion soon ans I was wondering,
having a 5th level cleric of Saranrae with them, aren't zombies
just too easy? She can channel energy at least 7 times a day.

How did you handle that?

I decided to go with a subscription :-)

Thanks!

I just purchased the pdf and printed it out trying to figure out which pages have to be printed out next to each other if I print on A3 to make a book and then I saw it.

On the Index, it says Defense page 2, but on the Defense page, it is marked as page 3.
And it carries on, offense p. 3 is really p. 4, etc.
Or did I miss something really blindingly obvious?

Hi,

I just got confused.

According to the inner sea world guide:

Harrowed
Numerous Harrow readings early in your life seem to have hit the mark precisely, increasing your belief that you are destined for a specific purpose in life.

Benefit: You get a +1 bonus on all Will saves made to resist enchantment effects.

But in the Crimson Throne Players Guide:

New Feat: HARROWED
Numerous Harrow readings early in your life seem to have hit the mark precisely, increasing your belief that you are destined for a specific purpose in life; the Harrow deck and your destiny seem intertwined.

Prerequisites: Cha 13, must be chosen at 1st level

Benefit: You get a +2 bonus on all Will saves made to resist charm or compulsion effects.

Which one is correct?
Also are the prerequisites true or not?

Hi,

I just got a harrow deck and read through all the instructions, but still am at a loss with my first try.

Here is what I got:

The Foreign trader____The Forge_________The Dance
The Carnival_________The Empty Throne__The Avalanche
The Cricket__________The Tyrant________The Rakshasa

So I have the following matches:

None___None___Partial
Partial__None___None
Partial__Partial__Partial

The left column is the past, so I could either take the Carnival or the Cricket to interpret, the carnival as neutral outcome and the Cricket as negative? Or did I get that wrong?

So I take the misaligned Cricket which means a poor journey and tell them about the pc that died on their last adventure.

For the present, I only have the Tyrant which is not misaligned, so I have to interpret that "a paternal influence brings pain" somehow. Gods know how.

And last the future where I can choose between the traditional Dance (staying in perfect harmony) or the traditional Rakshasa (dominance and mind control). Which encounters would you use either of these for?
I would use the Dance for the Shingles chase perhaps, but the Rakshasa? No idea.

Does anyone have any ideas for me, anything that would help me interpreting the cards? What where your interpretations like?

Thanks for all the help.

Play Guide

This play guide has been compiled from my own experience with PbP (things I liked and things I didn't) and also from my favorite tips from the following excellent guides:

Doomed Hero's Guide to PbP. An awesome introduction to PbP. Don't miss his second post on that thread with some "advanced tips", too.

Painlord's further tips builds on Doomed Hero's work.

I strongly recommend reading these in addition to my guide below. They contain much more rationale and detail than mine does.

Things I Expect

These are more of a requirement than a guide. Players who do not comply will be asked to improve and eventually asked to leave. Think of these things as non-optional "table" etiquette.

Have fun:
No, seriously, have fun. If you're not having fun, why are you playing? If you find you're not having fun in one of my games, please send me a PM and I'll do my utmost to rectify the situation. If it can't be resolved, I'm perfectly happy for you to leave the game. This is about all of us enjoying ourselves.
Post Frequently:
Be ready to post every 24 hours. This doesn't mean you have to interject with nonsense just to keep up posting every day (though a quick post to describe your character's demeanor, reaction to the last action, or something of the like is always welcome). The main thing is to ensure that no one is waiting more than 24 hours for your action. If you take longer and we are in combat, I will place your character in delay. This would be the equivalent of what I would do in real life if a gamer went for an extended toilet break, took a long phone call, ran off in search of caffeine or something similar that takes them off the table in the middle of things.

Unusual real life events notwithstanding, I will be prepared to post at least twice a day. If there's nothing for the GM to add, you may not see anything - but I will check the gameplay thread 2 or more times each day. I will try for more often during combat.

You will each have my cell number. If you cannot post within 24 hours for any reason, please let me know. I will be happy to bot you as required until you're back to normal.

Vital Statistics:
Put your vital stats, expended charges and active conditions in your forum tag line. It really helps for those situations when a GM needs to make a roll for the whole party (eg. everyone makes a reflex save). That means I can easily do the rolls, resolve all the effects and move the game along in a single post.
How to post vital stats:
When you edit the profile for your alias, anything that appears these fields will appear on your tagline in posts on a PbP thread (in this order):

1. Gender
2. Race
3. Classes/Levels

All you need to do is put your vital stats in these three fields and you are good to go.

To help me out with readability, and to keep things consistent, you must use
this tagline template
for your character.

Rolling:
The following PC rolls will always be made by me to keep things moving:

1. Initiative
2. Perception
3. Sense motive
4. Saving throws
5. Group diplomacy*

Player dice rolls of these types will be ignored, unless specifically requested by me.

I may make the following where appropriate, but you may request to make these yourself (let me know if you prefer to roll these yourself):

1. Knowledge checks
2. Survival checks
3. Individual diplomacy*

Further, I may make a roll of any kind on your behalf if you do not post within the 24 hour timeframe (see above for more on this).

* Where the group is involved in a diplomatic action and a diplomacy roll is required, I will roll using the PC with the highest modifier for the group as the primary roll and the next highest modifier for an assist. Depending upon roleplaying and other circumstances, I may allow multiple assists also, or require someone other than the PC with the highest modifier make the primary roll. Otherwise, the players roll these individually.

Finally, a convention I have adopted (mostly for rolling during combat) in PbP games that I run is as follows:

1. No rolls during combat for any checks that do not specifically require an action unless called for by the GM. Same for free actions that do not influence combat. Eg. Knowledge (dungeoneering) to identify that ooze is a free action, but this is a roll you must ask the GM to make for you (unless he has asked for it). Concentration check to cast a spell is a free action, but that's fine to roll yourself (since it forms part of your cast spell action).

2. Always roll for actions in the order in which they occur. When in doubt, roll reactions to GM first, reactions to players next and then your actions. This should help minimize players swapping over save throws for attack rolls (and the like).

3. If you do want to make an "actionless" skill check, ask the GM to roll it for you. He'll have to post to tell you the results anyway.

How to roll:
In case you didn't know, you can make a dice roll using the bbcode [dice=Roll type]NdX+K[ /dice] where "roll type" is replaced with the roll you do (eg. "stealth" or "attack with power attack"), "N" is the number of dice you're rolling and "X" is the die type. Try to put most of the description in the main text (like who you're hitting), but out of character roll stuff like power attack, expertise, etc can go in there.
Eg. [dice=Climb check]1d20+5[/dice]

Tips and Advice

These pointers (gained from my experience and the above two guides) are aimed to help you to make the game more fun for everyone. Key to this is readable descriptions and posts that help the game to flow and progress.

Commandments of Gaming:
These are so good, that I've included these verbatim.

Thou Shalt Avoid Walls Of Text
Thou Shalt Not Hog The Spotlight
Thou Shalt Not Assume The Actions Of Others
Thou Shalt Not Assume Outcomes Of Actions
Thou Shalt Not Derail Gameplay
Thou Shalt Use The Discussion Thread

Proper Formatting:
Format speech in bold with the quotes still there. This helps to draw attention to what the character is actually saying (as opposed to what you are saying about the character).

Eg. Jal the Sorcerer turns the corner and sees his disciple. "It is late, the secrets locked in that book will still be there tomorrow."

Use "ooc" tags to say things out of character. It puts your post in blue and helps GMs and players alike to tell when you are talking about mechanics and when you are talking about your character.

Eg. Jal tries to activate the wand. Do I need to make a use magic device check or something?

Make sure to use the discussion thread for "ooc" text that is not relevant to your current post.

For some cool ideas on how else to format your text, see Doomed hero's advanced tips.

Writing Style:
Use Third Person Limited and write in the Simple Present* tense. Full stop. If for no other reason, it will keep everyone's posts consistent. It is also what most PbP posters use.

* Note that we are specifically using the Simple Present to describe something that 'is true in the present' (ie. what our character is doing).

Keep It Moving:
Painlord says "Always be pushing" but I think "Keep it moving" captures it a little better. After all, you can pull as well as push. The main idea is to always provide a hook for another character to pick up on and keep the game moving towards the goal. If your post doesn't provide a way forwards, consider revising it. After all, we do want to finish the adventure some time this century, right?

Eg. Post that doesn't keep it moving.

Jal crumples to the ground, clutching his head in hands, mentally exhausted from the fight with the mindflayer.

Eg. Simple modification to the above that keeps it moving.

Jal crumples to the ground, clutching his head in hands, mentally exhausted from the fight with the mindflayer. "I will need time to rest. Can someone watch over me while I meditate?"

Maps:
For all my games, I use Google Draw to simulate minis and a play mat / game board. They are publicly editable (with the link) and you shouldn't need a Google account to use them.

Everyone needs to update their own positions as part of their posts. Where this isn't possible, please describe where you would like to move to, and I will do it next time I'm near a laptop. If anyone is able to do so before me, please do feel free to move them for me! This is known as "a Lockwood" or "Lockwooding". eg. "Please Lockwood my token to just north of the werewolf", "Sure thing, just Lockwooded you."

Please, please, please write about how your character moves in the post. Don't just say "see my location on the map". That will help to maintain the roleplaying flavor and also make sure we don't have to constantly flick between the map and the gameplay thread to find out what's going on. It can also help me to adjudicate what happens as you move. But the most important reason is: your position on the map will change over time, but your post will not. Describe your movement.

Finally, in adjudicating movement (mostly for attacks of opportunity and traps) I will assume you take the most direct route to an enemy while still avoiding attacks of opportunity and hazards. If you close to a square and you can't get there within your available movement without provoking, I will make an AoO against you. Otherwise, though, I will assume your character doesn't move like a brain-damaged zombie and avoids such things. If you would like to specify how you move, please use a dashed line to show where you moved (or describe it if you're posting from a phone).

Conclusion:
Thanks for reading. If you are trying to get into one of my games, please PM me for a special question that (if answered correctly) will rocket you to the top of the selection list. Of course, everyone who wants in on one of my games should send me a PM, but I'm realistic. Doesn't mean you shouldn't be rewarded for reading, though!
