So in my group the Paladin at one time no longer trusted the party wizard when he was reincarnated to a bugbear, and started to show many angry and bestial traits. This led to a conversation with another character about "taking care of the bugbear" if he fell further. The bugbear overheard and swore vengeance against the "bigoted" paladin, saying he could only see skin deep. Fast forward some, the Paladin has a romance with a young female paladin in their home city. When far away the Paladin is wakened in his room by a monstrous creature spouting harsh sounding gibberish. It does not attack him, but does approach him, gesturing towards him. It tries to touch him, not attack, touch. He takes an attack of opportunity and slays it in one blow. A few moments later the illusion drops and he see's he killed his love along with a letter on her from the bugbear that "now he see's his bigotry for what it is" and "all that matters to him is appearances". The Paladin assembles the group and tries to say they must put the bugbear down. He then goes to raise her and I have it fail, my thinking was he killed her, and did not put any blame on himself. My question, was that fair? I will obviously let him atone if he wishes. Also do paladins still lose their abilities when they fall? Help would be appreciated. The last game ended this way.
Hello, My character opened a bunch of stores and staffed them mostly with Simulacrum. My group then asked me, can't you pick good NPC's rather than a mage school with Karzoug as headmaster ( sculpted to look a bit different), a bar with a succubus bartender ( in human form ). And it got me thinking...who are the powerful level 20ish NPC's other than ye old great wyrm silver, or solar.....are there any options. Old man jatembe (forget name) is the only one coming to me.
Hello, My character is a 10th level Air Element Wizard. He is from Magaamyan and is a member of the Pathfinders. I am trying to decide what path to take going forward. He is in the middle of the Shattered Star AP. I love versatility and both of these prestige classes offer that, one with my pick from other spell lists, and the other from druid. Both classes have nice features. I am wondering what people think? Its worth mentioning, my character is old age and would not dream of entering melee, so certain spells are less useful to him. Thanks in advance PS since this is my thread, if rather than answering me directly you just wanted to compare the classes versatility power drawbacks....that's fine with me too. Just looking for other opinions
This line has gotten me thinking of Aroden. I also remember in planescape that the Astral was littered with small moons or planetoids that were the dead husks of fallen gods. I know that Cthulhu mythos had a similar effect to the sleeping old ones perverting mortals in their dreams and the dark places of the mind. So now why could Aroden not dream? What would its effects be? Why did he destroy prophesy? Did he mean to? Is there something dark he saw that he wants avoided? Could even his dead form guide pc's to fight this calamity?
We use the medium advancement track. I was thinking of allowing 2e stayle muticlassing aka A lvl 4 char is say a 4wiz/4fighter he would have 4 HD averaged with the two classes so a d8 4bab 4 caster levels good saves in fort and will and need double the xp to advance. I'll allow 3e/pathfinder style prestige classes only to single classed chars The way it will work is muticlass characters will be 2 levels behind the curve. What do you think ...is this ridiculously unbalanced? Its the way it was in 2e....and I've never been 100% happy about multiclassing in 3e and on
A character in my group wants a shop and another a brothel. Now my problem is trying to figure out how successful they will be. I was thinking of using the business as a modifier to a profession ( or craft ) skill to determine profit. Base the bonus on the cost of the structure. Weeks the player actively manages the shop they get their skill+shop bonus. Weeks they are away it is just the shop bonus. Price it as you would a skill enhancing magic item. Though my calculations said the 40k it would take to buy a structure would take 41 years to repay the loss. With 10 ranks in the skill. Ok so maybe that value doesn't work. A flat +1 per 1k of structure value? Hmm 27 years..... I'd say 10 years is probably what I am aiming for. +1 per 500 gp? 16 years. That might work to me. What do you think?
hello all, I have a character who is completely vain. He is a Lord of a kingdom ( kingmaker ). The years are passing quickly, he is approaching middle age and starting to wonder about his legacy. He is Neutral, but lichdom is not a path he would take (vanity) Is there anything about alternate paths to immortality in pathfinder? Fountains of youth? Special magic items? I know of the exilir, anything beyond that? I wish there could be a good version of the lich, say something like an Ascended, a being of positive energy.
Curious how the magus stacks up against the classic eldritch knight Lets go with 17th level, where most campains end. F1/W6/EK 10 BAB 15 Saves: F 9 R 5 W 8 HD 1D10+6D6+10d10 average 86 Magus 17 BAB 12 Saves: F 10 R 5 W 10 HD 17d8 average 80 Not a ton of difference there. Its the spells where there is a lot off difference and of course the class abilities of the magus. How do they compare? ( I wish we had epic rules to know how to handle things like EK at that level. in 3.5 I used to let players continue the class ...or take something like abjurant champion after they finished EK...but only after they finished )
Hello all, Since I will only have 6 levels of wizard, high level school powers will not come into play. This is for a Kingmaker campaign. Looking it seems that Divination is probably the best specialization. I was thinking of opposed schools of Evocation and Necromancy. If I chose a different specialization I would likely go evocation and divination as my opposed. My thinking was that the ability to act in the surprise round and a +3 to initiative would mean that I am rarely going to be surprised and easily killed. I figure as I will do damage with my swords, doing it with fireballs is less important ( and I still have conjuration, and perhaps wands/staffs ). Necromancy....well I will miss some rays...but the undead focused powers I will not use. Opinions?
Hello All, Lets say you are a druid, cavalier, or ranger and your mount has evasion. You are riding said mount. The dragon uses its breath weapon. The mounts evasion ability allows it to try to evade...it does Now what about the rider? Does he get hit and not the mount somehow? Does he have to make a ride check? Or Does he auto evade? This has never been clear to me.
First the part that confuses me: PFSRD description of Bargain:
If the creature does not break free of the trap, you can keep it bound for as long as you dare. You can attempt to compel the creature to perform a service by describing the service and perhaps offering some sort of reward. You make a Charisma check opposed by the creature's Charisma check. The check is assigned a bonus of +0 to +6 based on the nature of the service and the reward. If the creature wins the opposed check, it refuses service. New offers, bribes, and the like can be made or the old ones re-offered every 24 hours. This process can be repeated until the creature promises to serve, until it breaks free, or until you decide to get rid of it by means of some other spell. Impossible demands or unreasonable commands are never agreed to. If you ever roll a natural 1 on the Charisma check, the creature breaks free of the spell's effect and can escape or attack you. Do you need to bribe or pay the creature you are bargaining with? Or can you get it to do as you wish based purely on the luck of the roll? Say for an angel, please help destroy the army of the dead. When the evil lich evillichimous is destroyed you may return. Since you are offering no reward you would get no bonus ( or maybe +1 due to the nature of the request ) Or on the other side of the coin could you just bully a demon/devil with a display of magic power and make the opposed roll. Simple synopsis is the bribe/reward optional or required. How do you handle this? PS how do you handle bound creatures for XP...I'd be inclined to say they get no share of treasure and count as part of the summoners abilites so get a 0 share ( unless that share was bargained, or perhaps promised to a church or orphanage )
Hello all, How do you GM's out there determine comeliness? I have a barbarian in my group, he has a charisma of 7....yet he constantly speaks of how beautiful his character is. Not he plays up his 7 charisma in his character with its cleanliness and matters of that nature. But can a 7 charisma be attractive or "hot"? Could brad pitt be a 7 charisma if he had a horrible personality? What about say Scarlett Johansson Do you just let the player determine this? Do you create a new ability score for it? I was considering having players roll 2d6+6...and I was considering then modifying it by charisma modifier So lets say my players barbarian had a roll of 18 for comeliness...it would be a 16 due to his charisma Also how would you mechanically handle "romance"...diplomacy? bluff? Opinions?
Hello all, I was thinking of what route to take my character. There are a limited amount of wizard prestige classes I have seen and wondering what people like most. 1. Loremaster
I am sort of partial to the diabolist and pathfinder savant. I however wish there were a good equivalent to the diabolist. Pathfinder savant is nice but I hate to lose a caser level. What do you all think? Is there a good one I haven't seen?
God if there aren't a lot of greataxes in this adventure path. I always thought of the scimitar when I thought of sinbad and the like. It doesn't help that our moldspeaker was a greataxe user. I've been changing everything away from axes in the final 4 adventures because I just can't take axes anymore. Anyone else feel this way?
My group has a character that wanted to buy a slave from a master mistreating her to free them. He asked how much it cost to buy a slave ( elven female/ bard ...he wishes to free her and offer her a job as an adventurer (cohort ) I have no idea what to tell him it would cost. I was thinking 100gp per class level and 50 gp for 0th...with mark ups based on attractiveness/strength and race? I feel dirty asking this question, but adult games have adult themes I guess
I am not certain how to take some of the school specializations for wizards. Some parts are clear, others aren't. I'll use abjuration as an example: Resistance:
Resistance (Ex): You gain resistance 5 to an energy type of your choice, chosen when you prepare spells. This resistance can be changed each day. At 11th level, this resistance increases to 10. At 20th level, this resistance changes to immunity to the chosen energy type. Resistance references level. Not wizard level, and not caster level. By the wording, if you were a 1st level wizard/ 19th level fighter, you would have immunity to chosen energy type Protective Ward:
Protective Ward (Su): As a standard action, you can create a 10-foot-radius field of protective magic centered on you that lasts for a number of rounds equal to your Intelligence modifier. All allies in this area (including you) receive a +1 deflection bonus to their Armor Class for 1 round. This bonus increases by +1 for every five wizard levels you possess. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Intelligence modifier. Energy Absorption:
Energy Absorption (Su): At 6th level, you gain an amount of energy absorption equal to 3 times your wizard level per day. Whenever you take energy damage, apply immunity, vulnerability (if any), and resistance first and apply the rest to this absorption, reducing your daily total by that amount. Any damage in excess of your absorption is applied to you normally. Protective Ward and Energy Absorption both clearly reference wizard levels. So I guess the question is how do we take the abilities worded like Resistance?
I preordered the bestiary Apr 14, 2009. last week my credit card changed and I updated the site with my new card. When my orders went to ship the old card was the one they attempted to charge, and it failed. I was sent an email, to which I replied. I however go no answer on how to rectify this situation. It is now 5 days later and still no word. My local shop has these books. I could purchase there. Please send the books or cancel the order so I can buy locally. Either way please send me a status update.
Hello all, An occurrence came up last night and I did not know how to resolve. A caster created a Spiritual Weapon in the center of a hallway. He argued that the weapon occupied a space and that the creatures could not approach him. He argued since it can be hit and attacked it has some form of mass and cannot be just walked through. Opinions?
Hello, All products in this order seem to be in, and its been pending for a while. Is this going to ship with my next subscription or is it in limbo? Also when I signed up for pathfinder core subscription, it canceled my bestiary order, which I assume is by design, I just wanted to make sure one of those is coming to me.
Hello all, I am running a game and one of my players is a dark elf. Well how would he be treated? I mean they are slavers and genies/janni walk the streets, the pactmasters are strange aliens. I do not know how to treat this. Also do elves know what a dark elf is on sight in this world? I know the queen does, wizened on history sages, but would the elves not fighting them to retake their home know? How would they react to one? I don't understand the Drow/surface folk dynamic in golarion, and katpesh confuses this further.
Hello All, Well pathfinder is out, classes have changes...I think its time to start thinking up builds. As the Char Op forum is down on the wizards site ( and has been for weeks ), and that who knows how long they will keep a 3e related forum. That is without mentioning the differences in classes. I thought we could use our own char op forum, or at least thread. A very basic one would be a pathfinder eldritch knight Fighter 1/Wizard 6/Eldritch Knight 10/ Abjurant Champion 3 BAB 17 CL 18
10 Class feats
Hello all, I have a player who is obsessed with the upcomming MMO Aion. Well in the game he wants to play a winged/ part angel. Well Half-Celestial fits the bill ( +4LA per MM, +2LA Per BoED ) either way I was looking for a way to handle this. Since I know there is no more LA, not sure what I should do about this. Give him experience debt? Tone down the template? Create a more balanced race? Any suggestions? Parts of Half celestial High ability mods
