Liberty's Edge

Hi! I'd like to join. Level 7 Druid, will post build later.

Liberty's Edge

"As far as equipment for the excavation, I have everything we need" She says with a smile "I was referring more so to any sort of preparations you normally make before leaving on adventure. Sharpen your pointy things, maybe see if you come upon anything useful."

She turns to Thallan "Now, let me explain the caves situation; the entrance is a bit of a crawl, though it opens up a few meters in. From there it seems to go on forever at a steady downward slope. It seems sturdy enough, though to be honest I've only gone a bit past the mouth in my past visits. There was such a concentration of broken pottery, masonry and 8ther trinkets just laying there under the dust."

Liberty's Edge

She shrugs and places the artifact back on the table.

"Perhaps one of you who are more knowledgable in the arcane can tinker with it later. As for now it seems everyone is eager to get going. It's a little under a day to get there by foot. The caves are at the base of a small plateau, so we should be able to set up camp near there."

She motions towards the kitchen, and out the back of the home.

"All of my things are packed and ready to go out back, as well as my pony. It's not a long ways away, though I'd like to have some time with my work without interruption, so bring supplies enough for, say, a week? So stock up, we'll meet back here in an hour."

She smiles and begins gathering her things. Is there anything anyone would like to do before leaving, including shopping?

Liberty's Edge

I'd have to make a build for it, but playing a human skirmisher would be cool. Let me know if you have a spot left!

Liberty's Edge

"Well no, magic isn't exactly considered scholarly in the northern mountains, if you didn't know. I know next to nothing about it."

Jik, you're pretty sure she's telling the truth, she truly seems dumbfounded.

"Hold it with my peekers closed, you say? Alright..."

She closes her eyes and runs her fingers over the object

"Feels the same to me. Hmmm... Don't you need a magic word? KHA-AZLAH!!!"

She shakes the object up and down, but to of no avail.

Liberty's Edge

Cpt., though you are wary of the object, the more you inspect it the more you are convinced that the stone child is ordinary, despite giving off an almost tangeable aura.

She purses her lips in confusion.

"Magic, eh? Why do you believe this?"Dronma says, gingerly taking the stone child and turning it over, inspecting it closely.

Liberty's Edge

Thallan, you get the same arcane aura from the object, and can sense it is enchanted. Yuki, you succeed in slipping an artifact into your sleeve, though note that there are only three present on the table.

"What was that about magic, and what not?" The dwarven woman returns, fresh tea and fluffy brown cakes in hand.

Liberty's Edge

And equally is interesting, what are they being replaced with?

Liberty's Edge

Jik 'tu kbar feels a strong aura of illusionary magic coming from the figurine of the child.

Dronma perks up at the conversation, and interjects. "Well, it's fine if we have a pacifist or two on board, keeps the group level-headed."

She smiles at Yuki "At your age I doubt you signed up to do fighting of any description, eh? Now as far as more tea and cakes go, I'll be back soon!"

She trots off towards the kitchen, taking the tray and empty cups with her.

Liberty's Edge

Sorry, I assumed everyone had been following it. You didn't miss much, though. I better get ahold of the alchemist too!

Liberty's Edge

Food and water is fairly trivial, though you will need to keep track of ammunition.

Liberty's Edge

She gives a hearty chuckle,"Thank you friend! Though I'm not quite sure about all that. It's just a simple dwarven red leaf with mint. Now, about my little personal endeavor that you've all become a part of."

her face seems to light up at this, and she unfurls the map and spreads out the papers. The map is hand-drawn though professional, and appears to cover only a few kilometers outside of the village. The small stone artifacts seem to be a small carved dwarven child, a broken cup, and a key.

"You've seen the architecture around here, yes? Smooth stonework, decorative metals, wide roads that follow carefully laid-out croppings of homes and businesses. I don't know if any of you have been to the Northern Dwarf cities but I feel at home here, despite being maybe the seventh dwarf to actually live here in recent history. In fact, no dwarf historians from any of the cities lay claim to Bilmyre, all calling it a human settlement. Though I have other thoughts on the matter, obviously."

She waves her hand over the trinkets and points to a small circle on the map, not far from the star that marks Bilmyre

"I found these in cave not far to the south a few months ago. Artifacts like these are not uncommon, so I brought them back here to send as souvenirs to my family. Out of curiousity, I returned the next week to see if I could find more. To date, I have found fifty seven individual artifacts, most of which remain at my little make-shift excavation."

"There are old dwarven stories, now almost forgotten that tell of the birth of dwarves from spirits of the earth. They were said to have extensive citadels all throughout the under-earth until one day emerging to take their place among the other mortals of the world. Though these are largely regarded as fire-side tales, I believe I may have found evidence that not only did dwarves live underground at some point, but we are currently sitting in their very first above-ground settlement."

She seems to gather herself and mull something over for a moment.

"Things are not as simple as I had hoped, however. The cave system has gotten extensive, and the spiders and bats have gotten bigger and more... exotic. In addition, some artifacts have turned up missing, so banditry is a suspicion. Mostly you'll be assisting me in excavation, protecting the dig as well as anything we find. I consider you all equals, so feel free to bring up any theories, ideas or concerns as the research continues. If we find something down there, all of our names will be hailed in academic halls across the known world."

"We will be leaving this afternoon so you may have a chance to familiarize yourselves with the site. Any questions?"

Liberty's Edge

Sure, I'll allow it. :)

Liberty's Edge

Gameplay thread is up! Posting on my part should be daily unless stated otherwise. Post as often as you'd like, though keep in mind if the situation needs to progress and you haven't posted for a while, we'll stilk need to move on. Have fun!

Liberty's Edge

The six of you are huddled around the dining table of your hostess, Dronma Bursum, an enthusiastic old dwarven researcher. Upon your arrival to Bilmyre, a mysterious dwarven ghost town turned rustic village, she approached all of you with claims of some great discovery, and through bribery, flattery, or promises of adventure and fame, she got all of you to agree to aid her in her research.

Airy humming can be heard from the kitchen as Dronma washes cups for your tea. The dwarf woman's home is sparsely furnished with oak furniture and aging brass, with a large stone fireplace warming the main room that you all sit in. A kettle begins to whistle from its dangling perch over the flames, and Dronma walks in, carrying a tray filled with cups in one hand and scooping up the kettle by the handle with the other. She sets the tray down and begins to pour the water over the ground up leaves.

Dronma spoke quietly in a thick northern dwarf accent, "Thank you all for waiting! I truly am appreciative of you kind souls' services, I was just starting to suspect no one would come to my aid!"

She begins to pass out the cups, which now give off a strong earthy scent, with small hints of mint. She wipes her hands on her apron, smiles, and walks into another small room.

She hurries back in, carrying a small map, a few other pieces of paper, and some small stone artifacts."Is everyone ready to get started, then?"

Liberty's Edge

What exactly is the obedience? A feat? Or do you get the benefits just from worshipping the deity?

Liberty's Edge

Table is full! And yea that should be fine. And oh, my bad, I'll be sure to fix it.

Liberty's Edge

Fighter, Wizard, Cleric, Druid, Bard, Alchemist, Inquisitor, Monk.

Liberty's Edge

http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2rcvh?Into-the-Void-Discussion-thread#1

Discussion thread is up! And yes, we would have room for a cleric, making it a five player group, though if enough people submit a character by the time I put up the gameplay thread, I'll make another group.

Liberty's Edge

The discussion thread for group one of Into the Void

1.Yuki Tsune
2.Lupic
3.Jik 'tu kbar
4.Cpt. Johnson
5.Thallan Mourne
6.Bellis Aleste

We have a trickster rougue, monk/fighter, shadowcaster wizard, invulnerable rager barbarian, cleric, and Chirurgeon Alchemist in that order. Any questions you have, just ask them here! The game thread should be up later today.

Basic rules:
1.Be mature.
2.Don't talk about fight club.
3.Feel free to play however you want!

Keep in mind I'm not a newbie to pathfinder, but I'm no expert, so bare with me. I look forward to DMing for all of you.

Liberty's Edge

Both characters are just fine. That makes an ideal party of four, so I'll make a discussion thread and then a game thread. If anyone still wants to play, continue to get your characters in!

Liberty's Edge

Seth, you may give your character two traits, since it appears you haven't. In all fairness I wasn't clear on them at all, so yeah.

Liberty's Edge

We'll be doing half your hit die plus CON mod when leveling up, and yes, two traits are fine. And as far as your character idea, a wizard would fit in perfectly.

Liberty's Edge

Okay, so there's two interesting characters! And yes, a halfling alchemist would be just fine.

Liberty's Edge

Awesome! Well that's one character done. We need at least three more before we start!

Liberty's Edge

The PFS races are the core seven, aasimar, tiefling, and tengu, though if you have something in mind you want, just ask and we'll talk about it.

As far as other motifs, there's a bit of mystery and dark fantasy.

Liberty's Edge

The pantheon on the continent of Alengrace consists of largely differing deities, from the Viking God Biellumor, whose worshipers value glorious death over all else, to Vena, whose teachings show the beauty in everyday life and work, such as hunting or farming. Is there a particular alignment, theme, or domain your looking for?

Liberty's Edge

The setting is the small, ancient village of Bilmyre. There's very little one would consider interesting about the rustic settlement, save for one thing: the architecture is distinctly dwarven, though dwarves have never been known to live in this corner of the continent, usually staying in the mountains of the north. The cultural discrepency has stumped scholars for ages.

Recently, however, a local dwarven researcher has taken up residence in Bilmyre. She claims to have a lead on the mystery, though lacks the assistance to pursue it. So adventurers who pass through the village find themselves being chatted up by a peculiar old dwarven woman, offering fame, fortune, and an oppertunity to assist in what she claims to be the most important discovery of the century.

Players will be those who, for reasons known only to them, offered up their services.

Liberty's Edge

Just seeing if anyone would be interested in a home campaign. Starts level 3, with according gold. Underground for a large part, though not a dungeon crawl. All classes allowed with the exception of the ACG. All PFS legal races playable, 25 point buy. No non-paizo material, please.

If interested, post here or send me a p.m. I can do a couple tables of 4 to 6. I'll post the finished tables and create a discussion board once they're full.

Liberty's Edge

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Other than the fact that it contradicts RAW and the class themetically to the point of irony, pretty much nothing.

Liberty's Edge

I agree with the stats and roles presented for the most part. Just a quick question from a play-by-post newbie, as I'm a little unclear with the formatting rules presented. I'm unsure on how to roll dice in a post, as well as making something bold, and I would much appreciate it if someone could point that out to me.

Liberty's Edge

As a paladin, my character will definitely be wanting the country to be good. As for the laws, he is the son of a wood elf and a hunter, so I'm sure he's free spirited enough to campaign for lenient laws, as long as they adequately uphold his morals. As for religion, as long as Erastil is represented, he should be fine. Economy-wise, I think that He would probably try to focus the economy on community, with different castes, since some are, in his mind, born with a higher calling. A strong agricultural focus would fit his love as well, and a respect of divine magic would be favorable as well.

It seems as though that my character's class and personality combination makes him one of the most lenient in some areas such as economy, while strict in others, like religion and alignment.

Liberty's Edge

I'm in UTC, and though I'm still working on an alias, I'll be playing a paladin of Erastil. I look forward to playing with everyone!

Liberty's Edge

I'm interested in playing. May have to PM you later for clarification on details, but I'm interested.

Liberty's Edge

I did take the overloading into account, actually. I'm planning for him to travel light. To be honest, I'm not sure if they do. This is my first PFS game, and one of my first pathfinder games in general. I'll play around with it a little, probably drop the int to 12 and the dex to 16 to bring the strength back up to 10. I really do appreciate the help!

Liberty's Edge

The 8 in strength makes sense as he'd been pampered the majority of his life. He didn't grow up in the jungle, he grew up in a rich household.

As far as the strength affecting combat, I already accounted for the penalties to grappling and such. As a dwarf, he doesn't take penalties for encumbrance, and as a crossbow-using ranger that will be taking point-blank shot and all the associated feats, he should never be using a weapon that accounts for that penalty, and will preferably be out of the thick of combat.

I appreciate what you're saying, though, since perhaps that penalty may have more implications than I accounted for. I also very much like the traits you posted, so thank you for the input.

Liberty's Edge

So I already made a thread about this guy in the General Discussion forum, though through extensive revisions, I've determined it really needs to be reviewed.

My build is a level 1 ranger of the Guide archetype, made for an upcoming PFS game. I designed him to use a light crossbow, and to be mildly good at skills as well as combat, and other ranger things. Personally, I'm for fluff over crunch, but I just wanted to see if this character concept could be useful for it's made for.

Before we get into the build, I just wanted to say that I understand the build is a bit odd for a Dwarven ranger, but to me it fits the concept of the character. His back story is that he was raised in a prominent household in the Taldor faction, leaving at adulthood in attempt to slate his strong wanderlust. Eventually, he found work as a guide through the dangerous jungles of Garund. In all, the concept is supposed to match the stereotype of an old English explorer. Now, onto the build.

STR 8
DEX 17
CON 14
INT 13
WIS 14
CHA 10

I intend to increase the dex to 18 at fourth level, and int at eighth level.

Since making the crossbow viable is so feat heavy, feats will be mostly what you'd expect. Deadly Aim at first level, Rapid Reload for my Combat Style Feat, and Crossbow Mastery at 6. Other than that, the point blank shot to focused shot chain seems like a decent option.

Traits are mostly fluff, Jungle Guide and Courageous.

So, does this seem like at least a decent build? I know it's not going to be the best at anything it does, but I just need to know if there is anything I really need to change, or if there are any other options that may be interesting.

Liberty's Edge

I'm on the "I hate over-railroading" band-wagon. I'm currently playing in a campaign run by a dear friend of mine, and so many things about it just irk me. It's a modern campaign, based off of the Persona series of games. I decided to play an Oracle, since it seemed interesting. Then I realized I could only spell cast in the "Shadow World", which sucks considering over half of my spell list has nothing to do with combat, or is at least more versatile than the standard magic missile.

Then, at one point, he gave us the ability to spell cast. Then immediately took it away by introducing an npc that can tell when we're using Persona Powers (Surprise, that includes spells), and will kill us if we use it anywhere but the "Shadow World". On top of this, any and everytime someone strays from the path he's written, he does something completely ridiculous to punish us for it, then tries to play it off as planned.

Don't even get me started on the plot favoritism towards one of the PC's, or the exceedingly powerful GM PC's that make most of us in the party null and void. Oh well, time to end this rant.

In all, I just really dislike narrow-mindedness and closed-off worlds in campaigns, especially home ones.

Liberty's Edge

I'm in to play as well if this comes together and there are enough spots left.

Liberty's Edge

Any ideas on a set of feats for this guy would be super helpful. :)

Liberty's Edge

I did say decent. And oh, thanks for pointing that out, I'll change that right away. As for what I'd like him to do, eventually through the Guide archetype I essentially get to choose my favored enemy (single target, really) once per day, and eventually extend that to allies. I felt like this would make for a fairly decent support build, since I'd be aiding allies while also pumping out a medium amount of damage. I appreciate the input though, I think I'll re-arrange the wisdom and constitution a bit so that I can raise the dexterity up to 16. Any ideas for feats?

Edit: New ability distribution is: STR 12, DEX 16, CON 14, INT 12, WIS 14, and CHA 10. I think that fixes the point-buy problem, as well as gives him a bit more optimization.

Liberty's Edge

Fighters. They're such a basic class, and completely dependent on your vision of the character for flavor. Other than that, Oracles and Sorcerors are both very interesting and fun to play.

Liberty's Edge

Hello message boards! I've been lurking for a while now and finally decided to sign up. Good enough introduction I suppose. Anyway, I'm building my first PFS character, a Dwarven Ranger of the Guide archetype and the personality of Jane's father from the movie Tarzan. I'm for fluff over optimization (Only to a point, though. I like my characters to be decent at what they do.), and I was looking for some help choosing feats for his flavor. He works as a guide through the jungles of Garund if that helps. His ability scores are as follows, 20 point buy of course;
12 STR
14 DEX
16 CON
11 INT
16 WIS
12 CHA
I plan on using him with some sort of crossbow, though he won't really be a combat focused character. Thanks in advance!
