So, while the question of whether or not teleporting into a body of water is similar to teleporting into a solid object is an interesting one, its not one we have to answer in this situation.

Mechanically , the results are the same, whether Hrungir teleports directly underwater or to the surface of the water then splashes down. Since the depth is less than 10' ( remember the goblin chid poled across), all parties are adjacent either way.

The amulet is a polished disc of veiny quartz set within a frame of knotted silver wire and suspended from a braided leather cord. Dolph remembers the amulet from his days apprenticing under Sillion. It is called the Headmaster's Gaze. Sillion used it to teach the basics of divination magic to his students; and to keep tabs on them.

Headmaster's Gaze enables its wearer to use the divine basic talent from the divination sphere 3/day. If the wearer is a sphere caster, they may spend a spell point to reduce the casting time to 1 standard action as usual, and may use any of the alternate divinations granted by others spheres they may posses. The maker of Headmaster's Gaze may scry on the wearer without their knowledge, and imposes a -15 to the wearer's will save to resist the attempt.

I know. But Kee posted above you Dson s actions- both breaking the grapple and attacking in the same round. Hence the point of clarification

Okay, lets get this show back on the road....

Dolph, you can take control over the mercs Wood and Dee. Kee-rik you get Harol and D'Son

I'll give the Warden unti tomorrow to post before botting him. I'll also post full stat blocks for the mercs at that time.

Hey all sorry for the delay. My PC has been in the shop since Thursday, and I'm all thumbs when it comes to posting on my phone.

Anyway, we've got one more new player joining up. As soon as he chimes in I'll launch a intro scenario for him and Kennen, running concurrently with the action (subterranean gore fest?) going on at the tower.

I'm also posting an open recruitment thread for a fifth character, because, well, as the current encounter demonstrates, this is a challenging adventure!

Sorry for the delay - sudden onset of the flu took me right out of commission for a couple days.

Blew my year and a half streak of sick-free days too!

@GMID: Does Raidh know the zombie has DR/slashing? I'm guessing she would get the message to at least try slashing after trying piercing and bludgeoning...however, in another PbP the GM said my character wouldn't know what kind of attacks bypass the DR of a creature without a Knowledge check...

That's pretty hardcore! Way back when you first encountered zombies I prompted for know checks, but since nobody has K:religeon, nobody rolled, so you characters went into the fight knowing nothing. And to everybody's credit you all RPed with it faithfully.

But, you've encountered them repeatedly now. It only makes sense that you'd keep trying different things until you found whatever worked. So no, you don't need to keep punching/stabbing :>

Kee-rik can indeed take a partial charge on the gaunt undead. I've moved your map icon; go ahead and roll your bite attack with charge bonus

...and I feel we should be celebrating - Dolph hit something with his destructive blast!!!

Raidh's perception:
The thawn is smashing dressing mirror into tiny shards.

Raidh seizes the moment and charges the giant, sinking the tip of her spear deep into the creature's meaty thigh. It let out a yowl of pain and swats at Raidh with clawed hands, stumbling back and away.

Full action Claw1: 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 4 - 2 = 10 = Miss
Claw2: 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 4 - 2 = 17 = Hit!; Dmg: 1d6 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 3 - 2 = 2
5' step back

Then the giant uses the side of one of its twisted hands to lift a roll of fat beneath which you catch a glimpse of maggots at least a foot long. It scoops one free and hurls it at Raidh!

free action Ewww, Maggot!: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14 = Miss
Raidh leaps back in disgust as the pale pulsing thing lands at her feet.

Round 5 - Initiative Order and status/effects
Morgtii - Steel rain drill
Wolf-Eyes - dodge in effect
Kee-rik -
Rodolpho - 5/9 HP
Raidh - 9/11HP(cast= Kee-rik, Wolf-eyes)
Giant - wounded, sickened
Maggot -

Hrmmm... turns out you couldn't find it because I didn't include it in the creation guidelines. It should be average wealth by class, so...
Incanter = 105gp
Synergist = 140gp
Metamorph = 105gp
Battle Lord = 175gp

Legend holds that the Book of Terniel has the power to give each reader their heart’s greatest desire. However, there is always a cost, often dire. Now, the book has been opened and its power can be felt across the land. Four powerful factions compete for the artifact, and in the middle of those factions – you! Will you choose a side or claim the Book of Terniel for yourself?

This is an open recruitment for up to 5 players for the Book of Terniel, published by Embers Design Studio Characters start at lvl 1 and should be lvl 4 by the completion of the story.

The adventure takes place in the Valley of the Kings – a non-Golarion setting. A brief overview can be found HERE

Player Expectations:
Once per day posting, more relaxed on the weekends. Communication is key. If you’re unable to post for any length of time, let me know. Keeping things moving is important for everyone’s enjoyment, so if you can’t post for more that 48 hours or so, expect to be DMPCed. Most importantly though - looking for players that are interested in contributing to telling a story. Selected players please create an alias profile for your character. I prefer roll20 for maps but understand that it is difficult for most people to access on mobile devices so will be sticking with google this time round.

Character Creation:

I’d like interested players to submit a brief character background and personality sketch, along with a rough outline of your crunch. Completed character stats and alias will not be required unless selected.
Level: 1; max HP (1/2+1 afterwards); average starting wealth
Stats 20 pt buy
Alignment: Any
Classes: Any core, base, hybrid or unchained. Sorry, no occult classes. See 3PP tab below for more options.
Traits: 2. Campaign traits available only from those listed in the campaign tab. No drawbacks.

Character Tips (excerpt from player’s guide)
Big and Small: You’ll be squaring off against lots of goblinoids and more than a few giants, too. Both are great choices for abilities such as the ranger’s favoured enemy class feature.
Brain Power: On more than one occasion, blundering forward with your sword first and your brains last is liable to land you in the dead book. Use caution; sometimes you run across things that are just bigger and badder than you are.
Deep Dark Bog: You’re going to spend some time in the swamp. Come prepared with someone trained up in Survival, and while you’re at it, familiarize yourself with the rules of aquatic and bog terrain.
Incessant Chatter: It might seem like everything is meant to be hit with a stick, but try talking to a few things. You never know which of your “enemies” might be willing to parley. You are not likely to go wrong with a bit of training in Diplomacy and Sense Motive.
It’s a Trap: Do your fighters a favour and bring along someone able to disable traps. Stumbling through them is always an option, but there are better ways.
Local Fare: Consider making a character local to the valley. Not only will your Knowledge (Local) skill be handy for identifying the strengths of monsters, but there’s a wealth of secrets available only to characters from the area.

3PP stuff:
As you may have guessed from my choice of adventures, I am a voracious consumer of 3PP, and I’ll accept character submissions drawn from the list below. I don’t want the party to be a crazy mishmash of impossibility either though, so I’m reserving 1 spot for 3PP race and/or class, and may accept others if their background is not too jarring to the setting or is really good. Here’s a list of stuff that I own and am most interested in seeing in play. If there is something not on this list that you’d like to try, feel free to sell me on it.
Alluria – Remarkable Races
Amora - Liber Influxus Communis
Dreadfox – Ritualist, Swordmaster
Drop Dead – Spheres of Power
Interjection - Ethermagic, Truename magic
Kobold Press – Adv Races: Centaurs
Purple Duck - Legendary Races: Sphinx
Rite Publishing – In the company of Gargoyles, Fey, Minotaurs, Dragons; Divine Channelling
Rogue Genuis – Armiger, Death Mage, Godling, Mosaic Mage, Shadow Assassin, Time Thief
TPK – Scions of stone, Deductionist

About Me:
I’ve been RPGing for decades, most of that time with the many iterations D&D and Pathfinder. I’ve run several successful long term PBPs and PBEMs. I enjoy diving into the numbers and stats of the game but never at the expense of a good story, and abhor getting bogged down in rules debates that usually succeed in nothing but slowing down the game.

kevin_video, I'll second Lord_Hyperion's praise! I've enjoyed your recent blogs in particular. Sound's like you run a much higher powered campaign than I'm used to, but your changes have been insightful and enjoyable to read.

Johan grumbles amicably to Agrippa, Oh come on, you're loving every minute of this. Or would you have me believe you'd rather be at the horn teaching Grumblejack which fork to use with braised blind cave fish?

He then tries to stifle a snort of derision as Elise dons her impractical, and in his opinion ridiculous, fancy hat. With Cedric and Eldred's attention focused on her, and Sebastian chatting quietly with the other priest, Johan takes a moment to observe the other two members of the 7th, and how they are reacting to this façade.

Finally, when Cedric suggests they leave, he is all too eager. Johan scarfs down the last of his drink and wipes his mouth with the back of his hand. Yes, lets get this over with, he says, walking to the door.

Corn-tooth Benny dropped his cards on the table in disgust and pushed his chair back from the table. I fold! He pulled out his knife and started picking a piece of the nights stew from between his yellowed wooden teeth that gave him his nick name, and wondered for the hundredth time why he was sticking around here.

The pay was good and the work wasn't hard, and that devious son of a b!@%% Crofter kept a well stocked bar, but the whole place was just ... creepy. Benny had done some bad sh#$ in his time and thought he was pretty hard to scare, but his bosses here - when he saw them - rattled him to the core. Yep, be honest with yourself Benny old boy. That's why you're staying - fear and money, money and fear the two things that make the world go round.

He picked up his crossbow and fiddled with the winch while waiting for the other two at the table to finish the hand.

Meanwhile...upstairs
Johan wakes instantly as Jeebs bangs on his door and delivers his message. He grabs his shield and Morningstar and sprints to the Sanctum throne. over his should he yells to the shaken butler, Find the ogre!

Johan swears in frustration as his victim vanishes from sight. Not sure how she has eluded him, he looks around for some clue of where she has gone.

Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14
...but finding no sign of her assumes she has returned to the higher planes that spawned her. Angered at being cheated if his first angelic kill, he hares off after the fleeing elves, with the idea of maybe capturing one to take back to the spire.

There, how's that for not metagaming :> Remind me to add detect invisibility to Johan's repertoire

Johan rolls into Farhold late in the day and heads straight to the inn where the dead elf had been staying. He wears the same disguise he did when he first came to town but otherwise makes no attempt to conceal himself.

He gets himself a table in the common room, orders a meal and a pitcher, and settles in to wait.

As he suspected, it doesn't take long for the seventh knot to contact him. Their leader, the white cloaked Zadaria slides over to his table about an hour after his arrival. True to form, Johan keeps the meeting brief, talking in clipped, gruff tones, revealing only what he needed her to know, and assessing her every response The horn is ours. We will be commencing the ritual soon, but it is a long and involved affair - we will be camped there for the better part o a year, so your continued vigilance here in town will be required. The ritual requires some... special guests. The first is a devotee of Mitra - that shouldn't prove a challenge. You can't spit in this country without hitting on of the pious sheep. But if you see any likely candidates, let us know. What we will need your help on is identifying and securing our final guest: someone who has the "blood of the Victor." I assume this means someone related to the king who took down the horn originally. We won't require their presence for several months at least, but start your research now.

He drains the last of his tankard and leans back in his chair. How goes your work here? Have you been in contact with the Baron or the Cardinal?

First pass...more to come:

Professor Mim:
“And so thanks to the efforts of Vindi Diamondheart, the ironbreakers of the 12th cohort, led by Einar Tarnhammer himself, arrived in the upper gallery in time to flank the red horde. Caught between the 10th and 12th cohorts, the orcs were routed from the field. This marked the collapse of the red horde socially and politically, and no major orcish incursions were seen in the region until the Vitr Dynasty some 600 years later.”

The broad shouldered lecturer at the chalkboard finished scribbling and turned around to face his class. The light that had been in his eyes as he wove the tales that made up his lecture dimmed as he regarded the bored looks on the handful of student faces dotting the hall. Someone coughed. Another yawned and stretched. Assistant-Professor Mim sighed in resignation and stomped back to his podium. “And so concludes Dwarven history and culture 101 for this semester.”

No sooner had the words left his mouth than the students, human every one, were bolting for the door. As Mim tidied his notes, a messenger jogged into the hall. “Proffessor Hannarr Mim?”

“Assistant-Professor.” Mim corrected. He had been teaching here for over a decade now and had seen many of his human peers pass him on the academic ladder in that time. Dwarves, however, were not permitted to achieve full tenure. It didn’t matter, he told himself. The only reason he taught was to fund his next expedition. The messenger gave him the same bored look as his students, handed him a thick letter, and departed

Mim looked for a name on the front and almost dropped the letter. His pulse began to race as he traced the proud glyph scrolled there with his finger… “DIAMONDHEART”

Ha, funny you should ask! Third person present tense seems to be the norm around here so I'll be GMing in that( but I find myself slipping back into past tense regularly).

Use whichever you find most expressive.

Also, I want to use roll20.net for maps. Anybody already have an account or experience using it? Anyone have concerns?

My 8yr old daughter made a rogue as her second character and we had a chat about using her skills to solve problems instead of always charging in with her sword like she did with her first character, the fighter

While fighting Blackfang she got a determined look on her face and explained to me that she wanted to sneak up behind him, jump on his back and ride him up out of the cave. :o

When I suggested that Blackfang was a pretty scary beast that probably would be too happy about having an elf on his back, she pushed her character sheet over to be and said, " but look, I took stealth, acrobatics and ride!"
