I understand completely. Losing players does put a damper on things. As 626 said it was a good premise and an enjoyable game while it lasted and I would be interested in playing a different game with you.

Hypatia reacts with mild surprise to 626s mental probe. Interesting. You too? I wonder if this bears some relation to why we were all brought here she responds mentally. Dapper Guy certainly seems like a wizard. I'm trying to get more on Brick now.
Before probing deeper and risking the spell being disrupted Hypatia will use her next action to shift her attention to the Stone Man and read his surface thoughts.
Wanting to know more about why the two gentlemen are fighting, and what side to intervene in (if any) Hypatia casts Detect Thoughts , focusing first on the surface thoughts of the Dapper Gentleman.
"And I hear Virginia is very nice this time of year." Hypatia glances back at Simile
Hypatia is inclined to take the middle route. She dislikes the Rat but has no love lost for the league either so would like to cause trouble for both sides if she could find a way to gain some benefit from it and not get insta-splatted.
Hypatia stands up "Easy there. Templar why don't you put the nice man down and maybe his 'friends' will put their nasty swords away and we can all continue to listen to the fascinating we all came here for"
At the same time Hypatia reaches out mentally to the rest of the group.

Vrog:
[ooc] Given the costs it will be just a single casting for now. The question will be "Where will Bradford Tethers, also known as Slingshot, be within the next 24 hours?". "Our main advantage would be our ability to work together. We don't want anyone to get into trouble where the rest of us can't help. New York is too far away and doesn't seem that urgent. Might be worth trying to hack either the museum's or the cop's computer systems to try and find out more details though. Where did the wasp attacks happen? And do we know where the auction will be?"
Vrog:
I was planning on casting divination. Not 100% sure how that will work as it seems to vary considerably between GMs and settings and we don't really know much of how deities etc. work in this setting. Unless there is a more obvious choice I will try to use the spell to gain guidance from the alien deity which provides me with my powers. The next morning Hypatia is exuberantly cheerful, practically bouncing to the attached diner, and manages to work her way through most of a bottle of syrup with her breakfast. As she eats she reads up on the history and science of powered suits on her phone.
"Slingshot it is then. I'll go shopping for shinies to sacrifice tomorrow then try to find where he is. $250 is a reasonable expense for this information isn't it?" Later that evening:
Simile: After Hypatia and Simile retire to their room Simile hears a quiet voice in her head. I think we need to talk. Without anyone else hearing. We have a lot in common after all. We can both do this (I believe)... We can both change our appearance though I believe you are far more adept than I Here Hypatia changes her hair from its current coppery colour to bright pink, then to pale blue, and then back to copper. I also believe we had similar goals, and ways of obtaining those goals. We should be friends, good friends. Hypatia smiles and extends her hand.
"Given my age it would be very unusual for me to have a room to myself. Would you mind sharing with me 'Emily'?" Hypatia asks. Glancing over the files while devouring a chocolate bar Hypatia adds
Vrog: Planning to use divination. Material components are incense and an offering worth 25gp. What would that work out as value wise in this world?
Vrog:
Knowing that she could recreate her spell book with an hour long ritual Hypatia would have destroyed it before going to prison to prevent anyone else from reading it, especially as she only needs it for Vicious Mockery, Mending, and her rituals. I'll assume that she carries out this ritual during the first 'rest' we take. Hypatia looks through her bag of belongings and selects a rather old-fashioned looking blue dress to change into. "So... Car, cake, computers? Anything else we need?"
""I would like about an hour in order to get my book. I would also like a piece of cake. I suggest we find somewhere with cake and look over the files. Also does anyone know why we are in Stockton of all places?"
Hypatia elects to remain in her prisoner uniform for the time being, it's warmer than the pleated culottes and blouse combination she used to customarily wear when out on the streets. "I always thought that they were paid to keep specific people here." Hypatia remarked. "If I'd known that they were just interested in keeping people in general here ..."
"The Rat called one of the people orchestrating the breakout 'Fredrick'. He seemed to be acting as the Rat's second in command. The Rat explained that he had complete molecular control over his body and that he had been drugging people with his blood in the 1980's before committing mass murder and ending up here. As Simile stated earlier, he explained that he had been feeding us all his blood and could kill us if we didn't co-operate. Jerry here questioned him and was killed to set an example. The Rat stated his intention to overthrow the League and create a New World Order and invited us all to join him. [Insert Correct Number] prisoners took him up on his offer. I could tell you what I know about them all if you like but you probably have access to more information on them than I do. The Rat then took down the technomantic defenses around the five central cottages but it seems that he didn't know who was contained within them and their response caught him by surprise. He left with those who chose to follow him, while we elected to stay behind to help the wounded. I assume you are aware of everything that happened from the moment The Protector showed up?
Hypatia doesn't have anything she wants to collect so she simply sits down on the ground cross-legged and waits for the others to return while thinking over the day's events so far.
"I see no reason why not." Hypatia replies. "Yes."
Hypatia curtsies and smiles sweetly at the Protector. "Hypatia J. Kuningatar, your Protectorship. I have some magical talent and I see ... everything. I'm here because my father made enemies and I made mistakes. Hung out with the wrong sort of people, went some places I wasn't allowed in. I believe I have learnt my lesson and I can assure you I will not make the same mistakes again."

Hypatia was initially tempted by the Rat's offer but also considers him to be dangerously reckless and unstable. She therefore considers staying to be the safer option. If things appeared to become more dangerous she could change her mind. It's a pragmatic rather than a moral decision to her. Spoiler: Not that she would recognise the difference.
Hypatia gestured at the hole at the top of the dome that the the plasma man made. "I could get a couple of us up there if things get really bad down here. It looks like it may be a bit nippy out there based on that draft coming in and I'm not really dressed for the cold." Hypatia laughs. "I suggest that we be good little boys and girls for now and sit tight. It seems that the scary guys would rather run away than stay and play anyway."
Hypatia clapped her hands to her head at the scream. That hurt! Her opinion of the Rat was rapidly falling, few of the prisoners seemed inclined to take up his offer and he had opened the five metal boxes before checking who, or what, might have been imprisoned within. She also didn't like the fact that he had tricked her... or that he had killed Jerry. The Rat might possibly be able to protect himself from the inevitable response from the League but Hypatia doubted whether he would be able, or even willing, to provide the same protection to those who followed him.
Glancing up at the hole the man made of plasma and the girl with the pigtails left through, she mentally added Of course it's just good sense to have a backup plan Her mind made up Hypatia moved to help the wounded, moving them to the area the man in pyjamas indicated.
The young girl looks dispassionately at the body of her erstwhile friend. "I knew there was something irresistible about your cooking. I thought it was just the high sugar content..." she says half to herself and half to The Rat. Without moving her head Hypatia observed how the other prisoners were reacting. The Rat's plan was bold. A little messy for her taste, heavy-handed and likely to breed resentment rather than gratitude in those being rescued but still... bold. She chuckled as she remembered something the Rat had said earlier that day. "You were right. This 'work assignment' is indeed most exciting"
It sort of reminds me of a game format my University RPG Society uses which is a mixture of live-action and play-by-post. Each week you would receive a personal (and private) response to what your character had been up to for that time period and a news update which all the players (or all the players in a faction) saw. The feeling of stuff going on but not knowing what is very similar.
Hypatia: "And the day was going so well" Hypatia sighs. "This is surely going to be a complete and utter waste of my time' Glancing briefly over the board again, Hypatia turns toward Jerry and says, almost as an aside "Checkmate in seven, by the way, Rook to F6, Check. You can take the Rook or retreat your King but either way the best you can do now is delay the inevitable. Your mistake was moving your Queen to B6 a couple of moves back, it left your King too exposed." Seeing the look of disappointment and confusion on Jerry's face, Hypatia pats his hand gently. "You are getting much better dear, your opening defence was solid, you just need to seize the initiative and not just react to the moves I make" Turning back towards the Rat Hypatia continues exactly where she left off. "I do hope that it's not physical labour. I mean look at me! What use would I be at physical labour? she exclaims with a swish of her hair. "I do wonder what could have prompted this change in routine however. I highly doubt that it will be exciting but we might learn something interesting if we keep our eyes open.
Hypatia: Hypatia's eyes light up at the sight of the chocolate chip muffins and she opens the door and greets the Rat cheerfully. "You really are too good to us you know" Hypatia says as she reaches out for a muffin, giving a little shudder of delight as she bites into it, "Oooh, how do you make them taste so good? You simply must share your secret." Tearing her thoughts away from the food for a second Hypatia gestures for the Rat to take a seat if he wants. "So do you have any tasty gossip to go with the food or were you just feeling neighbourly?"
Prison: Hypatia was pleasantly surprised at the conditions in the prison and mildly amused at Jackhammer's explanation as to the reason why the conditions were as they were. Yes, she supposed, she was here due to failings in the system but it was in trying to correct those failings that she ended up being arrested. When she got out she would need to be smarter... and less impatient. Well, prison is the perfect place to learn patience. Hypatia spends much of her time in prison studying, focusing especially on Philosophy, Mathematics, and Ancient Literature. She completely ignores the employment skills courses and treats the mandatory psychiatric counselling with disdain. She knows that such things may be useful for others but does not believe that any psychiatrist is in a position to understand someone of her intellect. The inmate she is closest to is a hulking brute of a man, named Jerry. Not very bright but with prodigious strength (and anger management issues), he ended up working as hired muscle and was arrested after a bank heist gone wrong. Jerry is apparently devoted to Hypatia, possibly seeing her as the daughter he never had, or possibly because he simply needs someone to tell him what to do. The two make an odd sight around the compound, the huge thug and the tiny child riding on his shoulders.

Here's my submission in this profile. It's just about ready, it just needs a few extra things added and maybe a few final tweaks. Violeta is a Changeling Witch, who wasn't a very nice person at all before losing her memory but has since reverted to almost childlike innocence (as seen in the response below). I think it will be fun to Break the Cutie , especially if paired with more cynical or weathered companions. Response to Prompt: Violeta's first thoughts upon awakening in the strange city were of confusion, followed swiftly by wonder. What was this place? Her eyes were drawn inexorably upwards by the shifting spheres. It was impossible, yet beautiful as well. She stood rooted in the spot staring for an untold amount of time before eventually noticing the slowly encroaching fog. What a pretty colour... footsteps, people? New friends maybe? Meow-scrrtch An angry, hissing ball of fluff suddenly made itself known.I have a cat? Yes I think I remember. She is an important cat. The next thing she knew, Violeta was running away from the fog, her cat in her arms.I have a cat? Yes, and she is an important cat She didn't know why but somehow she knew that the things, not people in the fog did not want to be friends and would do bad things, terrible things if they caught her. As she ran, strange unbidden memories, indistinct and hazy, re-entered her mind, of other chases, where she had been the hunter, not the hunted, and others had ran in fear of the things she would do. She felt nauseated, Why would she want to do bad things to other people? She was good. GOOD! Wasn't she? These thoughts swiftly left her head however as she was lost in the shear joy of movement, of feeling her long legs moving beneath her and the wind in her hair. The joy of running was even almost enough to let her forget the things chasing her. Almost.

Felecity grew up listening to the tales of chivalry, romance and adventure her Mercenary Father brought back with him from his adventures. Tales of Aldori Swordlords from Brevoy, Fugitive Aristocrats from Galt, and the decadent yet deadly courts of Taldor. She used to dream of travelling the world with her father as a dashing adventurer. As well as these tales her father also taught her how to defend herself and how to use her agility and deft hands to offset her lack of strength. While her father was away she used to help her mother in the dress shop, and discovered that she possessed real artist talent, something she believes, coupled with her beauty, to be a gift from Shelyn. Her dreams slowly shifted as she grew older, she would still travel the world, but as an artiste not a grubby adventurer. Noblewomen from Korvosa to Oppara would desire, nay, demand her latest creations. These dreams were put on indefinite hold however by the death of first her Mother, through illness, and then her Father, killed on campaign, which left her with the dress shop to run, and a younger sister, Bella, to support. The dress shop provides just enough money to get by, unfortunately many of Felecity's creations are somewhat more flamboyant (and expensive) than the citizens of Daggerford expect and serve only to decorate the boutique windows. Meanwhile service in the town militia helps provide Felicity with the excitement she craves, even if it does distract from her art.
Appearance and Personality: Felicity always tries her best to stay in style, wearing the latest fashions and with her hair immaculately coiffed. She speaks with a Taldane accent, which is clearly a mere affection as she has lived her whole life in Daggerford. She can seem a little arrogant and snobbish, and is perhaps a little too fond of creature comforts, but is also exceeding generous and always willing to lend a hand. She is not above using a little flirtation to help get her way but at the same time is also astonishingly innocent, even naive, still believing the world to be like her Father's tales. |
