Hey folks. I've been wiped with a cold... then felt rough today. Now I'm awaiting a covid-19 test. I hope to catch up again soon.
29 April 2947 Harry helps with putting the poor soul to rest. ******************************** 30 April 2947 Harry's face brightens with delight...until the spiders are upon them. He draws his sling and launches a bullet at Illyria's foe!
I may be coming down with a cold. Argh.
The 29th just isn't Harry's day! A pair of natural ones. D:
22 April Harry listens intently, comparing the life of Bergur Brigg? to his own. The scholar concludes that this is an exercise in appreciating his own good fortune, to be born in a relatively peaceful corner of the world. He speaks with a smile, with warmth for a friend. "Well, Bergur, let us know if you would like us to call you Brigg or any other name." ********************************
Harry looks shocked and keeps staring at the dead man. HE IS DEAD! "I...I...I never lost anyone before! A few broken bones were the worst I ever saw in Bree..." The Breelander's words trail off but his stare continues, not even seeing the obvious until it is pointed out to him. OOC:
"A slave? That makes sense, given the land of Viglund. But was he fleeing from where we came from or the fort? We may never know."
22-30 APRIL 2947 Harry does his best to stifle the growing frustration within him. "This...this could go much faster!" *************************************** 25 APRIL 2947 Harry whoops, throwing his arms up! "Bergur! You magnificent man!" A few moments later, he then thinks. Oh! Was that the wrong thing to say? *************************************** 26 APRIL 2947 Harry broods. What dwelled here? Who? WHY!? OOC:
*************************************** 29 APRIL 2947 Harry looks on with concern, but busies himself with readying his healing implements. He whispers: "Someone is going to have to get that rock up so we can free him! I shall tend to him but I would appreciate aid in holding him fast!" Seeing Illyria take care of the rock, he sets to taking care of the man. OOC:
And at the back of his mind, an even quieter whisper, made only to himself: Why?
@GM: What a journey! Are those temporary or permanent shadow points?

Earlier Harry's eyes widen in confusion, then realisation. "Oh? Oh!", he murmers as he sets to work. *************************** Now Harry gently smiles at Bergur. "You have your reasons, Bergur. You will speak more of the matter or not!" ****************************** "Thank you, Otbert and Cedwin!" ***************************** "She sounds less and less of a leader the more we hear of her.", adds Harry. "I think we should seek out this fort without further delay!" The Breelander thinks on the matter, hoping to shake out some nugget of information from his hours of reading. OOC:

I'm game for any of those. I have a pretty good idea of how Harry will react in any case.
Harry offers a shoulder for Bergur. "Come on then, let us get inside so I can tend to that wound!"
Harry swings and swings, trying to distract and divert, so that his companions' blows can strike true!
Harry finds himself rushing towards the fray. Not again! He swings wildly, knowing that his best stroke is distracting a foe for Onár to strike!
For what it's worth, I think Morwen's offer is quite fair.
Harry doesn't want to allow these men to continue stealing from the villagers. Hence his stance.
Harry adds his voice to that of his companions, without taking his gaze off these clearly dangerous men. "Returning to Viglund and telling him that we arrived and simply allowed property from his domain to be taken is not a realistic prospect. You had best depart." OOC:
I'd make an argument for ranged weapons that give bludgeoning damage, such as slings, or for customised blunted arrows. But yes, the already tricky prospect of fighting non-lethally is made much more difficult at range.
Catching up. Just a note. My rate of posting has gotten more erratic lately. It may remain that way for some weeks yet.
21 APRIL 2947 Harry stands in front, as does his staff, its butt resting upon the earth. My friends are here. I need not fear any wickedness of these men! The Breelander calls to the approaching party when they are close enough to hear: "Men of Gisalric! The word of Viglund has brought warriors to this hamlet. You would do well to turn around and not return!" Not even a lie really!
Then Illyria follows up with a more succinct rephrasing. That should put the wind up them if they have a lick of sense!
9-16 April 2947 "In truth, we have little option outside of the theoretical! Drusilla's response is likely to decide the matter for us." ************************************ 17 April 2947 Harry sleeps the sleep of the just. "Morwen, that thinking needs even more 'ifs' than our first two options! There is the matter of trying to keep a peace between Viglund's people and Beorn's - we could stir up a royal mess if we do...that!" ********************* 17 April 2947 The days and nights have worn on Harry but a smile emerges from his travel-tossed face. "Greetings, good folk! I am Harry Kettlegrass of Bree and these are my companions. We seek word on Drusilla and where she went."
Harry looks a little glum at the talk of options. "If Viglund is to be believed, she turned on her own men and fled. He is a harsh, cruel man but base treachery is even worse. I would like to hear Drusilla's account of matters, even if it proves to change aught."
@Onár: I'm glad that your break did you good. :) @Illyria: I'd love to play in another ME game. I will say that lately I haven't been able to focus on pbp as much as I'd like, though still posting. It's likely that I'll have days where I'm not posting and may not be able to give warning beforehand. Would be aiming for a similar posting rate to this campaign. If that's acceptable, I would be up for joining, and do have Veig Fairmane, a dwarf slayer from a fallen campaign.
9-16 APRIL 2947 Harry is less talkative than usual on this trip. "That was a deeply unpleasant meeting. Seeing more of the ills of these lands and justifications...I want to be done with this soon!" ***************** 13 APRIL 2947 Harry's excitement grows as he stares at the stele. "The Mouth of Dust! The origin of the name is lost but it refers to this pass. Dwarves are reputed to have secreted caches here, hidden by cunning means. There may be some left remaining, their owners never returning. Onár, would you know of this?" OOC:
That's a fair balance to strike.
Understood! At this stage, Harry is aiming to get information to make this all-but-inevitable task easier!
Harry calculates swiftly. His demeanour is graver than usual, a far cry from his usual warm cheer. "Around fifteen spears then, and not all might fight to the end for her. Lord Viglund, what are the directions to her camp? Landmarks that we may know her position by?"
Harry half-expects Viglar to protest harder. He knows he will have another chance! The Breeman sits where and when instructed by Viglund. No benefit to protest from my lips either! He then listens to the lord's words before replying, measuring his own carefully. "Lord Viglund, I believe this task is not beyond us. How many have followed her to the shadow of Mirkwood?"
Harry has not seen the core of the matter. Hopefully I've guessed it!
Harry gulps as Viglund approaches, then rapidly composes himself. Straight to the point with this one, I bet! "Lord Viglund, we bear tidings and welcome from Beorn. He wishes to know what manner of dowry would suffice for your daughter Aestid's hand to his follower, Ranulf." OOC:

24 MARCH 2947 Harry nods at Bergur's words, perking up at the prospect of applying his skills to deciphering, even if it is the foul text of the Enemy. "Bergur, I shall also turn my efforts to this matter. The wiles of the Enemy shall not escape our gaze!" *************************************************************************** ****** 29 MARCH 2947 Harry plods on, glad of the sturdiness of his boots and the cut of his clothing. I think Harry is at a bit of a loss as to how to proceed. I'm also thinking that he isn't in the best condition. His usual torrent of words is greatly reduced as a sign of that!
Harry's pallor is less pale than before. His self-administered bandages and herbs are halting any further blood loss of note. "I...I will be fine. I am tired and would rest though." OOC:
Reluctantly, Harry attends to his own wounds. Physician, Tend to Thineself:
He then returns to Bergur to bind the man's wounds. Bergur:
He turns to Onár, looks uncertain, and simply adds: "Aye."
With the rush from imminent danger of death fast fading, Harry's fingers begin to tremble. He swiftly stows his sling, clasps his tools of healing, and moves towards Bergur to begin patching the Daleman's wounds. "We shall have you right as rain, Bergur!", Harry says, albeit with a paler face than usual. Healing on Bergur (OOC if allowed):
Harry keeps sending bullets into the fray, hoping to repeat his recent sound strike.
Heartened by his recent run of success, Harry whoops as Illyria hacks down the orc he had been striking. He seeks out another orc head to launch another bullet at!
Undeterred, Harry tries again for the same orc's thick skull!
Urged on by Morwen, Harry turns to launch a bullet at one of the newcomers!
Harry draws his sling, turns, and launches a bullet at the orc leader!
Harry staggers back under the orc's single blow. He then continues to move backwards, trying desperately to keep his staff between him and any more of that awful strength.
Ónar: You have advantage on both of those attacks thanks to Harry's Help actions. Enjoy!
Harry awaits word - or shout - from the party's scouts...
Harry bounds after Ónar, doing his best to keep orc blades at bay as the dwarven warrior swings to hack and slay! He does his best not to think about what those very blades might do to his friends - or him!
