Hey everyone, I really hate to do this, especially since I really like this group (and this character), but I clearly don't have the bandwidth for gaming right now, so I'm going to have to bow out. I'll leave my profile as is for the foreseeable future and you can feel free to use Greta as an NPC if/when you like, but its been like 3 weeks since I've really been able to keep up and that's not fair to anyone else.

I’ll let Selann or whoever try to pick it if he wants (since breaking the door is probably technically vandalism), but if he doesn’t, or can’t, I’ll smash it down; we can’t risk leaving more undead or whatever hiding in there.

Hey everyone, just a quick heads up- I'll be camping Aug 6th through 12th. I'll be in a cabin with a bed, but no electricity. I'll do my best to make short posts whenever I go in to town for supplies, but I won't have any reliable means of charging my phone so it may be kind of hit or miss. - We all pick one check and attempt it right?
- Are people allowed to double up on the same roll (like Benedic and Tristan did) or do we have to all pick different ones?
- You mentioned using NPCs in mass combat, how does that work? Do they act in our place or in addition to us? How often can we use them?

@Benedic- if you're welcoming feedback on your list, I'd point out that inspired spell requires that a spell have a casting time of a standard action or less, so it can't be used for divination (which has a 10 minute casting time).

Benedic can cast Create Food and Water- he would just need a day when he can burn a 3rd level spell on it.

Hurray for level 7! I should have time to level up today, and I'll post highlights here.

I'm not 100% sure I completely get the flow of mass combat (although the example definitely helped), but I'm down for just going for it and seeing how it goes.

As for allocating stats for our army- given that the spellcasting edge lets us spend discipline instead of might or mobility, is there any reason at all why we shouldn't just put all of our free points into discipline?

Greta's mind races with different ways to protest the decision--arguments why she should do it--but it doesn't take long for her to realize that none of them are very solid. Eventually she gives a reluctant nod and asks if there's anything she can carry or otherwise do to help the pair. once everything is set she (even more reluctantly) begins heading out of the hive.

"We have an hour to figure things out..." Greta observes with some misgivings. "Does anyone know how to check for weak spots, or to tell what's holding the top up? With my hammer, I could break a fair bit of stone in an hour, but probably not enough unless it was the right stone."

lol- "here you go 6th level characters, a list of spells that your wizard or cleric will be able to cast next level that would seal this rift." I think Benedic can burn a mythic point to cast magic circle, can't he? Maybe that's what he meant by praying for Iomedae to cast it for him. That seems like our best bet, and then I can join Tristan in squash the would-be queen.

Hey everyone, I’m really sorry for falling silent without any notice!

Last week I returned to normal/full-time work and it’s proved a bit more challenging than expected. I continue to recover well, but after being on the computer a lot at work (and all the little ways you use your shoulder throughout the day without really even thinking about it when you're not laid up at home recovering), I haven't been up to getting back on it afterwards to post. I’m getting to the point where I should be able to post during breaks and after work with some regularity again soon. And, I’m actually off tomorrow, so I’ll catch up on reading posts and get a post up in gameplay then.

Yay, combat!

2 quick questions that will affect my surprise round. Do/can I have my scale buff running when we get here? It lasts 19 minutes (iirc) so I would have activated it before entering the hive, since the plan was to get in and out as fast as possible. And, can we tell whether these are the kind of swarms that take 1/2 damage from weapons or the kind that take no damage from them?

sorry, this skills challenge seems like a clever way to streamline the dungeon, but my drug-addled mind is having a little trouble keeping up with it all. Can I just borrow the levitate scale from whoever has it and use that to auto-pass the climb check?

Junior is completely right about me (thanks for passing that on). I'm still kind of out of it from pain meds and erratic sleep, but recovery's going well and i'm working on getting back into posting.

My hammer is a polearm, so I can actually mount the knight's pennon on it (and would love to be able to use heroism on myself once a day). I'm not super interested in being slowed down by medium armor, but would gladly take the +1 chainshirt (although, if I do get the pennon I'd obviously want others to have priority on the armor if they want it).

”Do we have a bard with us who can keep the swarm distracted like that, and is willing to risk doing it?” Greta asks. “I think that sounds like our best option, for sure- it doesn’t waste any of our limited resources and it’s the safest thing for the army… the six of us could go deal with the queens, and some of the rest of the command staff could help the bard, if we have one?”

Greta slings her pack on her back and grasps her hammer. As the others rise and begin walking with her towards the army she elaborates, "well, demons aren't the most trusting creatures, as you all know--that is one of the weaknesses that keeps them from overwhelming us, they're always fighting amongst themselves and ignoring orders from anyone, or anything they don't fear--so I thought maybe we could use that to our advantage when we get to Drezen... I guess it probably wouldn't work if none of us are any good at lying, but I was thinking that when we got there maybe we could call for Vhane and shout about how we came at the time he set so that we could finally spring the trap he was setting in Drezen. I don't know how many demons would fall for it, but if it started in-fighting amongst the demons that would be good for us, I think."

After finishing breakfast, Greta packs up her stuff and returns to the conversation. "I'm all for planning," she says, "but it seems like we could probably have these conversations on the road... You're in charge here, Benedic, but my official advice as your second is that we should get the army moving towards Drezen again. The longer we wait the more likely it is that someone, or some thing, will get word of our approach to them and they'll be more prepared for our arrival."

She stops as if finished and then, before anyone can answer, suddenly adds, "oh, and are any of you really good at lying?"

I'll respond to whatever posts are put up, whether for RP or to advance the plot, but I will say that at the speed we're currently progressing it seems like maybe we players should try to prompt RP from each other a little bit more so that when the GM has time to post he can focus on moving things forward?

Once the cleaning is done, Greta helps organize a watch rotation and then tries to sleep off the demon's awful draining effect.

”Will it go away on its own?” Greta asks when Junior retrieves a scroll. “Maybe I should try to sleep it off before we use up a scroll…”

I don’t remember how negative levels work… I think I get a save tomorrow for it to disappear, is that a one time thing and then it has to be fixed with magic or do you roll that once a day until you succeed?.

”I don’t feel so good,” Greta remarks as her hair returns to its typical (non-glowing) golden hue. She finds a pew to sit on for few minutes as she catches her breath and then joins in the cleansing work. While working, she mentions to Benedic, “I think I may have some lingering effects from that demon… do you, maybe, have any magic that can stop me from feeling so drained?”

I don’t know long that negative level will last, but I’d take a lesser (or normal) restoration spell if anyone has one they feel like casting.

"She blessed us all for cleaning up the altars and shrines in the city," Greta offers during the conversation about rededicating the temple, "we might as well keep at it?" Despite her agreement, her usual smile fades as she realizes that without any cleaning magic she has little to offer beyond tearing some clothes off a ghoul to use as a rag and start scrubbing.

When Tristan calls out, her smile returns and she hustles towards the nearest door to the courtyard.

I didn't move my icon because I wasn't sure if we're round by round now or not. I have 40' move, so if we are I should be almost to the door at the bottom of the courtyard. If we're not, I'll move into the courtyard and try to talk to it while everyone else catches up.

Sped by Junior's mythic rallying cry, Greta hurries into the room calling out, "Don't let them kill either prisoner! The song says one has to be an offering." When she arrives directly behind Gwerm, she begins to rock in time with Junior's song and swings her longhammer at the ghoul next to the captain.

Calling on her own spring of inner power, the petite warrior starts moving again, passing by the captain and striking at the glowing ghoul on the altar that's closer to her.

I think that should be right... I have 40' move, so I use the free move from Junior to move to the square just above Horgus; then I use my one standard action to attack the ghoul; after that, I'll use a swift action (and a mythic point) to activate fleet charge which lets me move upto my speed (to my current spot on the map) and make a single attack (against the red-lined ghoul on the left).

Greta, not having much of an option for entering the next chamber, decides to circle around and try the door from the courtyard. When she sees a ghoul trying to exit that way, she takes up position far enough back from it that it will have to risk moving through her hammer's reach in order to attack her.

lol- and now I can't move it myself either (whenever I try to grab it, I just get the box from the nearest ghoul instead); can someone please double move me over so the ghoul at the side door has to move 10' to get to me (preferably straight out to the left on the map)?

It's a moot point now but Benedic, remember you can use your inspired spell mythic ability to cast any cleric spell you want (that's of a level you can cast), as long as its casting time is a standard action (or less).

When Selann pulls out one of Terendelev's scales, Greta is reminded that she should use hers too. Reaching into her pouch, she places one hand on the relic and concentrates; a moment later her skin hardens and transforms into fine silver scales.

She smiles proudly at her changed appearance and lifts her hammer in both hands once more. Then she moves near to the next door and prepares to charge through it.
