14.4 is the GP Gained. The label to look at is above the entry, not below. :)

I've just reported the game, and you can download your chronicles over here. (Will also put a link at the top of the campaign page.) Let me know if anything needs correction. Will leave this campaign up for a few days before deactivating.

So that's it. Thanks everyone for joining me for this game. I haven't GM'ed on PBP for quite some time now, and it's nice to be back. Thanks for putting up with my not so frequent posting, and misremembering of rules. :)

See ya around!

Year of Boundless Wonder

Rain looks confused at first. "Wait, I did?" He is clearly still recovering from his harrowing experience. "Well, if you say I did, then I did!" He cheers up quite considerably at that. "To the kitchen, it is! And yes, Magima, we can definitely stop by the apothecary store for some healing!"

"Wait, wait!" Zarta calls out. She takes over the items from Eliadyr and looks deep in thought. She turns the chalice over multiple times, trying to see if she can get any of the magic liquid to appear.

"Well, I’m not sure what this is. It's obviously a central piece of Aslynn's plan. In a way, it's a good thing that shard of her mind infiltrated our vaults, as it would allow us to understand a few things we might have otherwise missed! I wish we could've learned about this without putting your lives in danger, and for that, I apologize. I hope you're ready for more adventures. We've just scratched the surface of the vault's contents, and we need to act fast to learn more about some of these items. One thing is certain: we can't leave everything here and wait around for Aslynn to strike again."

She pauses here as she continues to study the chalice. She notices the Pathfinders staring here, before she exclaims and waves the Pathfinders away, "Oh, yes, go go. Go celebrate! I've got work to do."

Alright, we're pretty much at the end of the scenario. The rat combat got me worried but you guys pulled through, and the final fight was a walk in the park in comparison.

Hector, if you like to indicate your Earn Income in the chronicle, please go ahead to roll and note down the result in the table here.

While Atlach makes use of his new found toy to bring Eliadyr back to consciousness, the other three Pathfinders leap into action. Reji and Magima send their magical and elemental projectiles smashing into the hag's body, and Hector finishes it off with a spectacular leap, plunging the dagger into its body!

Combat Over! (Technically, the first two attacks took it down, but Hector's leap was just too spectacular to leave out!)

"NOOOOOOooooooo.... I'm melting, I'm melting, what a world...." the hag screams in agony as its body melts away.

Just as its last essence dissipates, Rain calls out, "The hallway! It's back to normal!" At that moment, Zarta Dralneen rushes into the vault along with a bunch of other Society leaders Ambrus Valsin, Eando Kline, Eliza Petulengro, Fola Barun, and Calisro Benarry. They look ready to fight, but lower their weapons as soon as they realise that there are no threats imminent. They first check that the Pathfinders have not come to any lasting harm, and get introduced to Bigloack and Mr. Glovely, before questioning everyone.

"Pathfinders, report. So what happened here?"

Sovereign Court

Year of Boundless Wonder

Atlach conjures a beam of searing moonlight, slicing into the other skunk and turns it to primordial goo before it similarly dissipates. Atlach, you had one more action.

Hector, I'll transfer your attack to Aslynn. The hammer lands but not the fascinate.
With the skunks quickly dispatched, the remaining Pathfinders focus their attacks on the hag. From up on the platform, Magima sends a bolt of fire slamming into Aslynn, who screams, more in rage than in pain. Hector flings his hammer, glancing of her head painful blow. The greatest wound, however, comes from Eliadyr, striking deep with his dagger simultaneously sending electricity and poison into her body. Her unearthly constitution, however, rejects further effects of the poison.

Once again screeching in fury, the Aslynn shadow casts another spell, sending three more bolts of energy slamming into Eliadyr, knocking him unconscious.

Suddenly, you hear Biglock shout in alarm. When you turn to look, the shard of Aslynn's mind which was Mr. Glovely's hand suddenly flies towards the vault's centre!

Biglock shouts, "It's too late! She's here! This is bad!"

The shard, hovering near the amassed treasures, twists and warps, taking on the familiar form of Aslynn and her cauldron.

"Your plan to kill me? So brave, so bold.
And yet, it matters not. Behold!"

She plunges an oozing claw into the pile and brandishes a jeweled chalice.

"Boundless wonder called to me.
And I respond with nightmares three!
Three children of my last thirteen
Shall join me in an endless dream.
A realm where you shall vex me not —
A realm where you shall be forgot!
Destroy me here, but at what cost?
You fight in vain, for all is lost!"

Cackling with glee, Aslynn watches as the chalice brims with swirling magical liquid. She inhales deeply, then empties the chalice into her cauldron. Two fuming creatures boils forth, in the form of what appears to be smelly, twisted skunks. Aslynn commands, "Kill the Pathfinders! And should they survive, let this be the first of their boundless nightmares!"

You can assume you've drawn your weapons in the time that the shard of Aslynn did all that above. :)

Feeling like it is the quiet before the storm, the Pathfinders spread out once again to search the vault, except for Eliadyr who spends the time going through some martial exercises while studying his spellbook.

Reji pulls out at vine arrow from the mess on the table. Hector joins Reji but perhaps the near death (unlife?) experience was still weighing on his mind, and he doesn't find anything of interest.

After finding the magnificent dagger, Magima is once again stumped at the shelves, although she at least manages to stay secure at the heights. Atlach returns to the shelves of scroll, but instead of a scroll, he pulls out yet another wand, this time a wand of heal.

I've assigned the unclaimed items to whoever found them. Couple of items unclaimed the Biglock and Mr. Glovely passed to you.

Items Found:

scroll of glitterdust: (Atlach?)
wolf fang: (Eliadyr?)
brooch of shielding: Magima
dagger of venom: Eliadyr
wand of manifold missiles: (Hector?)
+1 striking greatsword: Reji
wand of widening: Atlach
+1 striking dagger: Hector

Atlach, go ahead to roll for your heals.

Biglock asks Mr. Glovely to show you "that thing you found." Mr. Glovely produces a small gold spoon. "No, not that! The other thing!" Mr. Glovely shows the party a jagged shard of purple glass with constellations like those visible in the ooze of Aslynn's cauldron.

"That's the one! I think it's a shard of Aslynn's mind. It's projecting all those creatures into this place. She's probably looking for it. I think you should destroy it, but first, you'll want to prepare for another fight. A piece of a night hag's mind isn't bound to go out without a struggle. And for that, we need to prepare."

Biglock asks Mr. Glovely to get the party "some of the good stuff." Mr. Glovely rummages around the many discarded chests for a few minutes, then produces a wayfinder and proudly presents it to you. Biglock says, "No, no, I mean the really good stuff!" Mr. Glovely smacks his nonexistent forehead. He produces a small key from thin air and unlocks some sort of invisible container. With an exaggerated display of effort, he lifts a +1 resilient breastplate from the container and presents it to the party. Biglock grins. "That oughta do it. Hope you like it!"

"In the meantime while waiting, I suggest you continue going through the vault to see what else might be of use. Mr. Glovely and I will help!" Rain, who has been standing quietly to one side, clearly still traumatised by his encounter and can only nod vigorously in agreement.

You have another 10min. You can search the vault, this time with a +2 bonus from Biglock and Mr. Glovely's help. Or you can use it for other activities like putting on the +1 resilient breastplate or treating wounds.

To-Do List for My Amazing Pathfinder Friends!:

1. Talking skull - Please talk to the skull. It doesn't seem to like me. Maybe one of you will have better luck?
(Skill Check: Arcana, Diplomacy, Occultism, or Religion)

2. Pile of treasure - We probably shouldn't leave everything in a pile like that, but we've been short-staffed. See what's in there!
(Skill Check: Arcana, Crafting, or Perception)

3. Assorted items - There's all kinds of stuff up in the raised storage areas on the west wall and in the northeast corner. Did we find any magic potions in the vault? Alchemical items? Talismans? You bet we did! I know a healing potion when I see one, but some of this stuff is beyond my experience. See what you can find!
(Skill Check: Arcana, Crafting, or Perception)

4. Pile of empty chests - I already looked through these. If you find more empty chests, just pile them in the southwest corner of the vault.

5. Danger! - These shelves are way up high and piled high with dangerous poisons and possibly cursed items. I think Zarta felt it would be safer if they were out of reach, but we should make sure there's nothing too dangerous up there.
(Skill Check: Acrobatics, Athletics, Medicine, Thievery, or Underworld Lore)

6. Weapons - There are lots of magic weapons lying around. See if you can find the most powerful ones. Our field agents sure could use them!
(Skill Check: Arcana, Crafting, Gladiatorial Lore, or Warfare Lore)

7. Scrolls and such - We sure did find lots of scrolls! Thought I saw some wands in there, too. Might be something useful for the Society's spellcasters in there.
(Skill Check: Arcana, Nature, Occultism, or Religion)

Thanks for your help!

"Wait, what? Why would you think that? Have you not met a mimic before? Harummph..." You get the impression that if Biglock had arms, he would have crossed them now.

Eliadyr wrote:
"Umm, pleased to meet you Biglock and Mr Glovely. Eliadyr is my name. May I ask how you came to be here?"
Atlach wrote:
And why are you among this mess?

"Now that's a long story. To be honest, I've been in quite a few of the Society’s vaults over the years. I'm good at going unnoticed. Last time I got noticed, it was by that night hag, Aslynn. She saw my potential, and... well, she owns a significant share of my soul. I can barely even remember how I lost it to her in the first place. A bad bet? A worse debt? Can't rightly say, as I don't rightly know. Well, for years now, I've had to do as she asks. Mostly spying, a bit of stealing. But when I wised up to some of her plans, I made a break for it. She's been looking for me ever since. I think she fed information to those Onyx Alliance rascals. They captured me, so when the Society got hold of their treasures, I came with!"

Magima wrote:
"I didn't know there were mimics that were.... friendly. Nice to meet you Biglock and Mr Glovely. After getting you uncovered is there anything else you need?" Magima takes a slow purposeful couple of steps back. "Besides a snack..."

"Well, um, yeah, some of my brethren are ... how would you put in ... gluttons. But fret not, I am a much more cultured specimen of my kind. I mean, imagine, eating food raw? What barbarians..."

"But anyway, that is beside the point. What do I get out of it? Survival. I'm doing whatever I can to stay out of Aslynn's reach and, eventually, find a way to get out of her debt. The way I see it, the only way out is to help you out!"

"I don't know the details, but I know she's trying to brew some powerful magic in that weird cauldron. She needs a few of the magic items from your stash here." At this point, Mr. Glovely dives into one of the chests and pulls out a dagger and what appears to be a crystal key. (See slide for pictures.)

"While you were distracting Aslynn, we found these! I think she was looking for them. This dagger here looks like it’s from the Jistka Imperium. Might be a powerful magic weapon, but I’m not sure how to unlock its potential! As for the key, I think Aslynn was looking for this, too. I don't recognize the crystal it's made of, and I don't think it's from this world at all! Please, I believe your Society leaders would want to see them! Well, when you get out first..."

Whoever takes over the dagger indeed feels a strange power emanating from it, but unless more in-depth study is done (which you also suspect is beyond your ability), all you can tell is that is a good weapon. (Treat the dagger as a +1 striking dagger.) As for the key, whoever takes it suddenly hears a strange alien voice in your head. It is not distracting nor impedes any of your thoughts, however. In fact, it can likely offer some defence against external intrusions. (Whoever has the key on their person gains a +2 item bonus to Will saving throws due to the voice drowning out other intrusions on their mind.)

Any other questions? Also, confirming the following is correct? And let me know whoever's taking the dagger and key.

I'll move things along first but continue to do healing that is round-based, e.g. potions, spells.

Setting aside the disappointment from a number of potions that appear to be duds, the Pathfinders join Eliadyr to approach the source of the voice which seems to be coming from under the pile of empty chests, and moves to clear them. Just then, a disembodied pair of elegant blue gloves suddenly arises from amongst the debris and makes a "Stop right there!" gesture before signaling toward the table. They gently pat its surface, then indicate the boxes on top of it. The voice from earlier says, "I see you've met Mr. Glovely! He wants you to help clear those boxes. I'm, uh, underneath them. It's a bit embarrassing. Help a poor guy out? Many hands are better than two! No offense, Mr. Glovely." The gloves wave dismissively, as if to say, "None taken."

Together with the help of Mr. Glovely, the Pathfinders make quick work in clearing the pile of chests. But all the Pathfinders see initially is just the table which the chests are piled up on. But in a moment or two, it transforms into a large, gaudy treasure chest with an enormous, shiny silver chain and padlock, one with eyes that could be mistaken as knots in the wood, and a large friendly grin formed at the lid of the chest!

"Hi, this is me! Biglock's my name. And if you haven't figured out by now, I'm a mimic! One of the best around! That means I can turn into all kinds of things. Tables, chairs, you name it! And this is Mr. Glovely. He... You know, I’m not sure. He showed up one day and lent me a hand. Or two! Ha! We have what you might call a mutually beneficial arrangement. I do the talking, and Mr. Glovely does everything else."

With the rats defeated, the vault falls silent. Aslynn’s double and her cauldron have vanished for now. Once again, the Pathfinders hear a voice call out, "Whew, that was close! Hey, could you help me out over here? I'd like to say hello, maybe explain a few things, but these boxes sure are heavy." You can easily discern that the voice is speaking to them from area A4.

Please go ahead to heal using potions, spells, etc that takes rounds but not treat wounds, etc which take 10min, etc. I believe the party still has 4 of the potions from Rain, plus whatever you picked up as your school item.

Ah yes, Eliadyr. Thanks for the reminder.

Atlach's sling bullet glances harmlessly off the rat's hard carapace. Despite his severe wounds though, Eliadyr pushes on, striking the rate with his new found weapon, empowered by his spell. The strike punches through the carapace, causing it to crack and fall apart, leaving the rat badly wounded. Just in time for Magima's second attack to finish it off!

Magima, do you have weapon infusion to get agile on your second attack? It would have hit regardless but just checking.

Eliadyr's shield dissipates as it blocks of the first attack by the other (yellow) rat but the relentless creature lands a strike on its second bite. (Eliadyr, if you dismiss your shield, it would block the first attack of 5 dmg, but that lowers your AC to be hit by the 2nd, of 4 dmg. If you keep the shield up, you would take the 1st dmg but not the 2nd. So I took the first option as that results in less dmg overall.)

Sorry guys, I've been rolling very well for this combat...

Reji, however, takes his revenge. With a mighty swing, he chops the (red) rat in two, and it quickly disperses into thin air. (Reji, I transferred your attack to red.)

Reji and Atlach both send rays of attack one after another at the rats but both attacks miss and smashes into the treasure pile, scattering miscellaneous items everywhere.

Magimar, yes, I would take flying flames as doing area damage since it is a line effect.
Magimar summons a flaming hawk then plunges through the swarm and two of the rats. The swarm of rats are dextrous enough to avoid the worst of the damage but with such a large group clumped together, many of burnt. (Weakness to area damage) The two rats are similarly dextrous, diving out the main path of the firebird, with their hard carapace deflecting off whatever damage they might have taken. (Read whatever you will into that.)

Eliadyr summons a glob of acid, tossing it at the swarm. His aim is off, but the splash of acid still manages to singe those at the fringes, scattering more of the individual rats. (Weakness to splash)

Hector makes a spectacular slide, driving his hammer at the skull of the (orange) rat. Again, its hard carapace deflects some of the blow. (Hector, shouldn't your attack bonus be +6, not +5?And damage 1d6+3?)

Two of the rats (red, yellow)quickly move into position to flank Hector. In a series of vicious bites catching him flat-footed from both sides, his bones are badly damaged and he falls unconscious, his life essence draining away. [ooc](The last hit that took you down was a crit, so Hector is at dying 2. Heal spell would not work on him. You can assume he has a void healing potion on him.)

The third (orange) rat turns and jumps at Eliadyr, slicing a gash across his thigh.

The swarm, fuming in fury at the fiery burns it receive, rushes towards Magimar. Hundreds of rats crawl all over her, biting and tearing into her flesh. (On top the damage taken, please attempt a Ref DC17 saving throw to avoid being exposed to disease. If you fail, please attempt a Fort saving throw to avoid catching the disease. Then, do that again, as they swarm bit you twice.)

While Eliadyr quickly cobbles together a magic circle based on his recollection from an ancient text he came across some time ago, Magima herds her towards it. And surprisingly, it works! The shadowy hag struggles for some time, all the while growing seemingly weaker as her form becomes more amorphous.

Breaks free she does eventually through, when she seems to spot something. Aslynn shrieks with delight as she scatters the magic circle and rushes to the pile of treasure at the center of the vault. "It's here! I can taste it! Come to me, my dearest nightmares!" She rakes through the treasure with her claws, scattering coins and shredding pages. "Where is it?! Where?! I must have it! What have you done with it?!" With a final shriek, she curls in on herself, melding with the ooze from her cauldron. Finally, she, together with her cauldron, melts into the floor, bubbling and hissing around you. The sounds turn to frantic chittering as dozens of rats begin pouring from the ground!

I've moved some of you closer to the treasure pile where Aslynn was, as you would have to been somewhat nearby to distract and trap her.

Yeah, sorry this part works out a bit wonky partly due to PBP, but mostly because I can typically only check in once a day. But things are looking good...

Sovereign Court

Year of Boundless Wonder

Yeah, go crazy with what you would like to do. :) Don't limit yourself to what you think the "rules" say you can do with your skills. So what you've suggested also sounds good.

I suspect those who have played before are laying low a bit to let those who haven't have a go? And hope I haven't scared you guys with the warning about negative consequences. It really isn't that dire. :)

Sovereign Court

Year of Boundless Wonder

The Pathfinders decide to put up an impromptu performance that turned out so captivating that the shadow Aslynn pauses in her search through the vault and, rather hauntingly, turns to face you, as if noticing you for the first time.

You've successfully distracted her. Now you need to find some way to "trap" her, i.e. find ways to lock her down to prevent her from finding whatever she is looking for. The party needs two successes, and a warning that there are consequences for failures. As before, post what you're doing to "trap" her and roll the relevant checks.

Sovereign Court

Year of Boundless Wonder

A cry from Rain in Cloudy Day pierces the vault. "Oh, no! She's back!"

Moments later, an imposing figure steps into the vault, striding straight past the cowering Pathfinder. With her wild hair, wicked curved horns, sharp teeth, and glowing eyes, she’s a fearful sight. The bones of her enormous, clawed hands make hideous cracking sounds as she heaves on a chain wrapped around her torso, dragging an iron cauldron across the stone floor. It nearly tips, spilling a glob of vile black ooze filled with vibrant constellations.

She casts her gaze around the vault and rises to her full height. She speaks, her voice like a dying goat by a crackling fire.

"What is this? Ah yes, I see. Precious treasures, all for me!
A dagger, its twin my child wields. I command you, Star: break cities! Burn fields!
A key, its message yet unclear. Why does it hide? What does it fear?
Pathfinders! You’ll seek boundless wonder across the land... and find Aslynn’s nightmares, hand in hand!"

Aslynn stoops to grasp the chain once more and proceeds with her cauldron into the vault, still ignoring Rain and anyone else around her. Suddenly, a new voice — a harsh whisper — carries through the air.

"Psst! Hey, you! Pathfinders! She's not real. Well, not too real. Just a bit. No time to explain! You’ve got to distract her! Don’t let her find what she’s looking for! Distract her, then find a way to get rid of her!"

"She’s a mental projection of sorts, a piece of Aslynn’s mind! Maybe you can speak some magic words or something? Or maybe she'll go away if she gets what she wants! She wants one thing: treasure! So, give it to her! Just... not the good stuff, you know?"

This encounter has two parts. First, as the mysterious voice suggest, you'll need to create some kind of distraction to divert it from the treasures it is seeking. Post what you're doing to distract her and roll the relevant checks. Possible skills could include Deception, Occultism or Performance, although I'll accept others as well.

Lol, another crit!

From amongst the musty scrolls and parchments, Atlach spots a wand hidden in one corner of the shelves. He pulls it out, and notices that the end of this wand is forked instead of tapered, realising that it is a wand of widening.

As before, feel free to pass things around before the following encounter.

Sovereign Court

Year of Boundless Wonder

Atlach, you still have one more "round" to search for something. Sorry if my post earlier was confusing, as I messed up my cut and paste, and made your previous round's search attempt appear to be for this round's.

After the exhilaration of finding a very special item, Magima is frustrated to find nothing else of value in the pile of treasure. Hector, on the other hand, pull out a long bundle wrapped in nondescript rags. Opening it though, he finds a wand with a carved dragon's head at its top and a polished metal sphere set in its midsection, eventually figuring it out to be a wand of manifold missiles!

Man, you guys are killing it with finding magic items. :)

Sovereign Court

Year of Boundless Wonder

After digging through the pile further, Reji sees a faint glimmer emerging from a bundle of rags. Pulling them apart, he pulls forth a greatsword, inlaid with gleaming runes, which turns out to be a +1 striking weapon.

Eliadyr, however, still finds nothing of value.

By the way, the party can pass around the items you've found to whomever might find them more useful. You suspect there would be more danger coming, so that would be natural.

Sovereign Court

Year of Boundless Wonder

Magimar, you want to down some more? It would take no time.

Rain exclaims to Hector, "Oh wait wait, that's not right. These X potions are of the void instead. Now how did they get mixed up?"

Hector, I'll take it that it needs to be at the point of being given, so let me know how many you wish to take, i.e. X.

Hector Horizon wrote:
"So Zyky, you are a spellcaster? That impressive!"

Whatever magic Zykyryz had cast on Hector earlier seemed to have drained it temporarily. Although its eyes remain faintly glowing, it remains silent.

Despite the unfortunate tumbling taken earlier, Magimar heads back to the high shelves. This time, her luck turns around completely. (Lol!) Hidden under a pile of dusty parchment, she finds a serrated dagger with a faint glowing greenish tinge, which she suspects is a dagger of venom!

Although he doesn't find anything magical of worth, Reji does pull out a (simple melee weapon of your choice) that catches his eye.

Searching through the treasure pile, Hector initially gets rather excited and he seems to find many objects that seem valuable. However, after closer examination, it turns out that none of them contain anything magical. In fact, in his exuberance, he made the previously somewhat sorted pile messier than before.

You have another "round" to search.

To-Do List for My Amazing Pathfinder Friends!:

1. Talking skull - Please talk to the skull. It doesn't seem to like me. Maybe one of you will have better luck?

After discovering the group is trapped, Rain nearly succumbs to despair again. He composes himself long enough to urge the party to continue searching the vault. He hopes they can discover more useful information about the treasures therein or perhaps acquire useful gear to use against additional intruders. He cautions that the earlier attack is likely the last and urges everyone to be prepared. Rain himself, having come so close to Aslynn's manifestation, remains wracked with a sense of impending doom and is of little use in the search.

You have an unknown amount of time to search the vault again. Will take this in pseudo-rounds, each taking ~10 min. Like before, let me know where you wish to search, move your token there and make the relevant skill checks.

Care to tell us why you are afraid of Bugbears? It may momentaraly reduce the fear you have at the moment."

Rain looks visibly assured with the encouraging words of Hector. He takes a few deep breaths, then shared about how, when his spirit was still newly infused into his body, he had inadvertently stumbled into a village of bugbears. A troop of mischievous youths gave chase, shouting in glee about how they intended to make mushroom soup for dinner. It was only through a fortuitous appearance of a druid who drove them off that he was saved. But since then, he has nightmares of bugbears, in particular of them staring over him while he boils in a cauldron of water. (Sorry, I couldn't resist.)

Hector Horizon wrote:
"Also... have you prepared some void-based potion? I am allergic to vitality-based potions."

At this, Rain looks down. "Apologies, those I do not." (Yeah, they probably didn't think of that when they wrote this scenario...)

Eliadyr seems to recall hearing a tavern story that night hags are so called because they only come out and attack at night, but otherwise knows little beyond that.

Eliadyr wrote:
"I'm ready to check the entrance too Magima. Given poor Rain's experience, I suspect we are best to go as a group once we are all ready."

Once the party has taken a few moments to patch themselves up, before moving enmasse to the entrance. However, they encounter something strange. There is no sign of Aslynn as what Rain had encountered. But although the hallway looks normal, it is impossible to traverse — no matter how many steps a creature takes, the door at the other end is always the same distance away! This reminds you of nightmares you've had, where you keep running for an exit but never reach there, falling to the ground but never reach it. Eventually, the party gives up and retreats back to the vault proper.

Once you defeat the nightmarish creatures, Rain finally manages to regain his composure. He rises sheepishly from the floor, looking embarassed at how he had collapsed. In between yelping in fright and apologizing profusely for causing so much trouble, Rain sees the injuries that a number of you carry. "Wait, I have something for that." He reaches into his satchel gives you eight minor healing potions.
(Please decide how to use and distribute them.)

Rain takes a few deep breaths, then describes what happened when he tried to leave the vault.

"I took a few steps, then a few dozen more, but I couldn’t reach the door! I shouted for help, but nobody could hear me! Or nobody was there? I don't know, it was like something out of a nightmare. I turned around, and there she was! I’ve never seen her before, but I knew it was her. Aslynn! Tall, dark, and hideous. She was dragging something, and singing... no, more like reciting poetry. That's strange, right? And terrifying. Something about my nightmares coming to take me away. I tried to run, but she touched my mind! She took my nightmares right out of me... those things! Bugbears have always been my greatest fear and that's what appeared! Just like she said. Right out of my nightmares. I hope she isn’t still over there. I... I can barely think. It feels like the world is ending. I'm afraid I won’t be much use. Could you take a look, see if she’s there?"

Rain gestures back to the entrance of vault (A8), and asks if someone could try leaving the vault for help.

(Forgot to show the shadowy creatures look like. Slide also has a picture of Aslynn.)

Previous Round
Fleeing from one of the shadowy creatures, Atlach comes up from behind another (orange) and drives his shortsword into its back.

This Round
The badly injured Reji turns to flee, but swings his glaive for one final attack. Although it fails to carry much weight, it is precise enough to slice his target (orange) in two, causing it to similarly dissipate into thin air. As he limps up the steps, Atlach sends a wave of divine healing energy at him, curing him completely of his injuries.

On the other side of treasure pile, Hector slams his hammer into the third wispy creature. It is solid enough to suffer the full might of that blow, and similarly dissipates from it.

Eliadyr turns his attention to the remaining and most substantial looking of the shadowy creatures (red). Even as he drives his rapier into the chest of the creature, multiple vicious looking serrations slashes into its body. The terribly injured creature howls one final furious growl before dissipating as well!

Reji's acid infused halberd slices a deep gash into the (red) shadowy creature, as wisps of shadowy substances leaks and dissipates into the air. Just as Hector rushes to help Reji ignoring the creature beside him, he hears muttering from the skull by his side, and he suddenly finds magic infusing into himself (Heroism). That was unfortunately not enough to him, however. His rapier strikes air as the shadowy creature dodges out of the way. Eliadyr appears beside Hector, striking the same target. Unfortunately, his strike similarly fails to land.

From high up in the shelves, Magima sends a fiery bolt the slams into the (yellow) creature beside Atlach despite it being partially blocked by the pillars, burning it up completely, leaving no trace of it behind.

Atlach, Magima's attack destroyed yellow. If you're ok, I can move you beside orange and transfer that attack to it? If not, you can post an alternative for round 1 together with your round 2 actions.

The most menacing shadow creature (red) screams in bestial fury and goes all out on Reji. His shadowy spear pierces into the magus' thigh, but despite his bad wounds, Reji manages to dodge the follow up punch. The creature then steps away from the flanking. (Strike, Strike, Step)

The (orange) creature opposite moves in coordination to keep flanking Reji. Reji, already woozy from the blood loss, fails to dodge this time and he is struck by both its spear and fist. (Step, Strike, Strike)

The remaining (green) shadow creature rushes back towards Hector. It's spear slams into his shoulder blade, careening off but leaving behind a scratch. (Stride, Stride, Strike)

Just as Magima is picking herself up, a sudden commotion arises from near the entrance of the Vault.

"They’re not real! They can’t be real!" The panicked voice of Rain in Cloudy Day precedes his rapid footsteps as he races back into the vault.

"I can't… I don't… help! Please, help! They're after me!" Rain collapses just inside the vault, clutching the sides of his head and whimpering in fear. A hideous snarl from just past the entryway causes Rain to go completely still.

I won't have Rain's token on the map as it is immaterial to the encounter.

A medium-size shadowy humanoid (red) stands over the cowering Rain. He scans the room at the Pathfinders then rushes into room towards the nearest Pathfinder, Reji! (Stride x 3)

Three more similar creatures manifest throughout the room, although they appear more wispy and less substantial than the one which had chased Rain. One (orange) manifests near Reji. Taking advantage of the flank provided by the first creature, it races towards him and strikes with its shadowy spear, piercing deep into his side. It follows up with a punch but Reji manages the duck the clumsy strike. (Stride, Strike, Strike)

Another (yellow) manifests near Atlach and similarly rushes towards him. Its shadowy spear leaves a painful graze on the cleric's side, while its fist smashes into his stomach. (Stride, Strike, Strike)

The third (green) charges at Hector. The dextrous skeleton, however, dodges both the spear and fist. (Stride, Strike, Strike)
Hector, it didn't matter but how do I read your AC 20/18?

Let me know if you choose to keep her by your side.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Pathfinders spread out throughout the vault.

Atlach carefully scans through the stacks of books and papers, and eventually pulls out what appears to be a magic scroll. After a while, he deciphers it as a scroll of glitterdust.

Eliadyr digs through the piles of seemly random items. The overwhelming store of magical items in the vault interferes with his spell, but eventually, it guides him towards a wolf fang bound in a strip of leather.

Reji in the meantime moves to the large pile of unsorted items in the centre of room. He is drawn towards a brooch adorned with miniature images of kite shields, which he eventually figures out is a brooch of shielding.

Magima carefully scales up one of the shelves. Unfortunately, she accidentally steps on a loose slip of paper which slides out from under her. Losing her balance, she falls!

"Well, if it isn't obvious by now, I could use some help to sort out all these," she replies, gesturing with one hand at the piles of artefacts throughout the room. (She allows her other hand to remain with Hector, whether consciously or otherwise is unknown.) "But Rain is clearly excited to explain further..."

Rain in Cloudy Day waves exuberantly encompassing the piles of treasure in the vaulted chamber. "Wow! Just look at all these magic items! And enchanted weapons! And a skull that always looks at me funny! Big magic books about even bigger magic books! Well, I'm not sure about that last one. I haven’t read them. Cataloging all this treasure is bound to be exciting! It sure beats sorting the mail."

Zarta finally extracts her hand from Hector. She runs her fingertips along the table, lifts a strange hourglass, and inspects it with dubious curiosity. "Exciting, yes, and possibly quite dangerous."

Rain frowns. Well, yes, but... at least we’re in the safety of the Lodge? Can't be that bad! You said these items are harmless." He picks up a skull from the table. Its eyes glow with pink fire, and it speaks, "Unhand me, you hideous rotten mushroom! Harmless?! How dare you!"

Rain replaces the skull and covers it with a cloth, muffling the voice. "Well… mostly harmless?"

Zarta fails to stifle a grin. She tilts the hourglass this way and that, shrugs, and sets it back on the table. "Yes, mostly harmless. We believe these items present no major threat to us, and we’ve secured those we believe to be cursed. The true danger comes from an old enemy of the Pathfinder Society, the night hag Aslynn. She nearly claimed these treasures for herself before they were entrusted to us. We don’t know why she needs the items, or which ones are most central to her wicked plans."

"I’m off to a meeting to discuss the situation with Eliza, Ambrus, and the faction leaders. You’ll stay here with Rain and continue cataloging these objects. We need to learn where the items come from and understand what they do. Then we can decide what to do with them. Any questions?"

Oh very honestly, I didn't know what it was. I was recently helping a farmer with his alpaca against a beast with someone who told me about this society. So I came in Absalom to have a look. I was near the entrance of the lodge and someone told me to enter here. I hope it not a problem.

"Oh, um, hmm..." Rain appears stumped momentarily, then replies cheerfully, "Well, in that case, welcome to the Pathfinder Society! We are always keen to recruit new members, so long as they adhere to our tenet, Explore, Report, Cooperate! I look forward to your further induction to the Society, but we just have a simple task today, so I'm afraid, not much Exploring really..."

After a short pause he will then continue "This is my first task from the society so I am not really sure what to expect. However, a vault of boundless wonder does sound intriguing."

At this, Rain perks up even further. "Oh yes, indeed! The hoard of magical treasures from across Golarion that we acquired after the confrontation with the night hag merchant Aslynn is simply incredible! But cataloging this Vault of Boundless Wonder has really been a mammoth task. And that's where you agents come in today!"

At that, the party reaches a set of massive doors and Rain quickly ushers everyone in. Within lies the massive Vaults of the Grand Lodge of Absalom. As you enter, on all sides rises shelves towering overhead and long tables, all laid out with eye-catching artefacts. At the entrance stands a woman with long dark hair and black nail polish wearing a vibrant blue dress stands waiting for your arrival.

"The Archives get more exciting every day," Rain states then adds, "And who better to manage the excitement than Zarta! Oh, have you all met Grand Archivist Zarta Dralneen?" Zarta smiles and thanks you for coming. They then lead the group to a table covered in interesting objects.

Pausing here for further introductions, if any, and see if the party wishes to recruit a replacement.

Drippig's player just messaged to say that he's pulling out from all his games. If the party is ok, we can just proceed with five, since I think it would be quite difficult to recruit someone at such last minute. But if you feel otherwise, I'm fine to try since we've only just started.

I think most players would have played this adventure already? :)

Looks like we have a total of 4 glyphs? Three from Reji and one from Atlach. How would you like to distribute them?

A fungus leshy peeks his head into the waiting room, grins when he sees the gathered Pathfinders then quickly strides in. He has a bright green body and a purple mushroom “cap” atop his head, and wears a white scarf
and brown vest emblazoned with the Glyph of the Open Road.

"There you are! Come, come, follow me! We're heading to the vault! The Vault of Boundless Wonder!"

Along the way, he introduces himself. "I'm Rain in Cloudy Day. I know, it's a bit of a mouthful. You can call me Rain. That should be easier!" He then adds that he’s a new Pathfinder agent who has been chosen to help with important tasks around the Grand Lodge. He sounds rather proud of that.

He looks over the group of Pathfinder. "My, my, the Society does get more and more diverse each year. I've seen your files but I would rather hear it from you directly. How did you end up in the Society?"

Still waiting for Drippig to check in.
