Just want confirm that a staff magus can’t use spinning staff to recharge his spellstrike if there’s no 2nd target? Kind of sucks cos often by the time it reaches the time to recharge spellstrike, it’s down to the last boss. So it’s choosing between strike or spending one action to recharge.

What if I strike an ally but intentionally miss? Lol.

Perhaps I'm slow but I just noticed that the damage scaling for a 2-action elemental blast falls behind that of a 2-action cantrip. Elemental blast adds 1 die every 4 character levels, while most damaging cantrips adds 1 die every 2 character levels. For example, at character level 5, a 2-action air blast would do 2d6+4 while a telekinetic projectile would do 3d6+4. (The comparison is more difficult with a d8 elemental blast vs d4 cantrip, but eventually, the cantrip will still overtake eventually.)

Of course, kineticist can use gate attenuators to increase their attack modifiers. But otherwise, my sense then is that by design kineticists should seldom use their 2-action blasts? That kind of makes sense, because they would typically have other more useful 2-action impulses which are more powerful than cantrips and which they can effectively use like cantrips. And the 1-action elemental blast is still useful when they have a spare action, while most spellcasting classes don't have 1-action damaging options.

Just want to check my understanding? Thanks!

Year of Boundless Wonder

Welcome to my PbP game for PF2E 4-01 Intro: Year of Boundless Wonder, part of Gameday XII. Hope you would have a blast!

Before we start, I would to share some of my ground rules. (In spoiler tag to not take up space.)

Guidelines (wall of text coming…):

PbP Matters
1. This discussion thread is open for all OOC matters, so no ooc tag needed. For OOC matters in the gameplay thread, please use the [ ooc ] tag.

2. Please aim to post at least once a weekday, and at least once over the weekend. I will strive to do the same although I apologise in advance that I might slip occasionally due to my work. If you would be away for extended period, please let us know in advance where possible, and we can work some botting arrangements.

3. If you have any disagreements over some of my GM calls or interpretation of the rules, please take it to the discussion thread or, even better, pm me.

4. If you have played and/or GMed this module before, please do not metagame or spoil the plot.

5. I would have thought this would go without saying until I encountered this, so… It is the responsibility of the player to keep track of the game, including referencing the map on google slides. I understand that there are times where it is inconvenient to do so. In that case, please be as specific as you can as to where you wish your character to move, what actions to take, etc. If you regularly have issues with accessing Google Slides, you might want to reconsider playing via PbP, especially for PFS as there is always combat, and thus map dependent.

Combat
6. To speed up posting rate, I group the enemies’ initiative block together (by taking an average of their initiative). That means that all the enemies will act together in one block. I know this deviates from RAW and changes possible combat tactics, but as I often can only post once a day, the more the enemies’ turns are interspersed with the players’, the longer combats will drag. Beg your understanding.

7. Once initiative is determined, for the group of characters who can take actions, I would resolve actions in posting order, not initiative order. I used to do the latter but it doesn’t work that well in PbP, so am going with the former instead. (Game mechanics-wise, it is effectively people delaying for each other.) However, if you want your action to take place after another character’s, just indicate accordingly.

8. I understand some GMs implement double rolls for critical hits, but RAW and to keep the game moving, I’ll double the damage for critical attacks.

Rolls and Skill Checks
9. It’s standard PBP practice that I’ll do your initiative rolls. Savings throws depend on the situation – I may call you to make them but might do it on your behalf to keep things moving. (I know it sucks to get taken down by a roll not made by you.) As for secret rolls, I’ll roll them behind spoilers. Otherwise, skill checks will be typically made by you.

10. On skill checks where there could be team effort involved, e.g. finding a hidden trail with survival, influencing attitude of NPCs with diplomacy, please be explicit when making the rolls whether you are attempting the check on your own, or whether you are assisting. (And take note of the pros and cons of either – more attempts mean more chances of crit failures.) Also, note that at low levels, aid is often difficult (DC20). There may be situations where only one character is allowed to attempt the check (and the rest to assist) – I’ll state so explicitly if that’s the case.

11. On skill checks in general, if I feel you have roleplayed well, e.g. gave a good description of what your character does to search for a trail, came up with creative ways to befriend a hostile NPC, gave a very rousing speech, I would give bonuses.

Roleplaying Matters
12. The maps and handouts link (at the top of the page) would display all the maps, handouts, pictures, etc as the scenario progresses. The most current page would be right on top, while previous ones would be left there for your reference. (Incidentally, Android and IOS has the Google Slides app in case you work off mobile devices.)

13. Please have your full character information up on your character's profile page in case I need to check something. Also, please have your stat block updated with the key information. Minimally please have your current hp vs max hp, AC, all three saves and movement. Feel free to include others. If you manage to read up to here, include your favourite ice-cream flavour surreptitiously in your muster post.

14. I typically forget to give out hero points. :) Please remind me.

Getting Started
Ok with that out of the way, a few tasks before we kick off.

A. Go to the Gameplay page and dot. If you like, you can do character description and introductions.
B. Look at the top of the page where there are three links. Fill in your (1) PFS info in the RPG Chronicles, (2) saving throws, skills, etc in the macros sheet, and (3) character info in the Google slides.
C. In this Discussion thread, do your day job rolls (if any). (I know it’s supposed to be done at the end of the game, but let’s get that out of the way.) Share whatever OOC information you would like the rest of the party to know about your character e.g. class, level, special abilities, discuss combat tactics, negotiate marching order, etc.

I took a year break from PBP so might be a bit rusty in GMing on this platform, so beg your understanding.

Game is scheduled to start on 4 Sep 2023. See you then!

Fantastic!

Is there any legal way to get access to scorpion whip? Own the relevant source document, and ability to gain access to uncommon item, eg via human?

(I asked about this at the Rules forum but didn't get much response. Trying here, and also since it is a PFS character.)

I've got a L6 ancient elf wild druid, who took Rogue Dedication at L1. As you know, wild druids tend not to cast much spells, so I was thinking of retraining him into the Flexible Spellcaster archetype. (Figured since I won't cast much spells anyway, might as well get some benefits of flexibility.) However, I can't quite figure out how many weeks of retraining is needed.

1. Flexible Spell Preparation needs to be taken at L1 first, as a class feature. This would require one week of retraining.
2. Flexible Spellcaster Dedication needs to then be taken at L2 as a class feat. So another week to retrain the class feat I took at L2 to this one.
3. However, the Rogue Dedication prohibits another dedication feat until two other feats are taken from the rogue archetype. So need another week to retrain out the L1 Ancient Elf racial feat. (In fact, probably need to do this one first before #1 and #2 above.)

Is this right? I would need a total of three weeks of retraining?

If I want to retrain my Druid into flexible spellcasting, would that need two retrains? One for L1 to replace regular spellcasting to flexible spell preparation and another for L2 to replace the class feat to flexible spellcaster dedication? How does that interact with the requirement that “ If you choose this class archetype, you must select Flexible Spellcaster Dedication as your 2nd-level class feat. ”

(And in actual fact, would need one more to train out my ancient elf racial feat from L1 because I can’t take another dedication feat until I’ve taken 2 other archetype feats from that one. Sigh. )

I just noticed that ghostly weapons only work on non-magical weapons. Wondering what's the rationale of this? It really makes this spell worthless because by that level, everyone would be carrying magical weapons.

I'm not sure how long it's been going on, but I recently noticed that the date and time of my posts are wrong. I've checked my account settings and the time zone is correct, so not quite sure what caused the problem. From I can gather, it seems to be displaying GMT-8 which is not mine. Any ideas?

Started playing an Investigator (Alchemical Sciences) and wanted to make sure I'm getting some of the rules right.

1. Was thinking of picking up a familiar (vs archetypes) at some point and use it primarily to feed elixirs I create to allies, and was thinking of the action economy of it. It seems I would have to (1) Quick Tincture, (2) hand elixir to familiar, then (3) command familiar. The familiar would then (1) stride, and (2) feed elixir to ally. Does that look right? Feels kind of a waste of a familiar though since I could simply (1) Quick Tincture, (2) stride, and (3) feed elixir to ally, i.e. do the same without a familiar. Only benefit I see then is if I need to stay at my location for whatever reasons.

2. A couple of familiar abilities don't seem to interact with Quick Tincture RAW. Lab Assistant specifically mentions Quick Alchemy only, while Extra Reagents specifically specifically infused reagents, but Quick Tincture uses versatile vials, not infused reagents. Was wondering if it is intentional for Investigators not to have access to these? (Not a major issue since this is a home game and the GM would allow but just got me thinking.)

3. I noticed that Quick Tincture items only last until end of the turn, while Quick Alchemy items last until start of next turn. Again, I'm taking this as intentional, which means I can't hand an item over to my ally for them to drink on their turn. Hence the whole shenigans in #1 to feed them within my turn. (Familiars, being minions, act on your turn.) Again, just checking to see I interpreted the rules correctly, and wondering if there are other implications.

I have a wizard (in PFS) who recently caught access to a feat that makes him trained in the DCs and spell attack rolls of a spell school (not arcane). (Keeping it vague to not spoil the scenario.)

Would that allow my wizard to use magic items that activate spells of that spell school, e.g. scroll of heal if the spell school is divine? Not quite sure where in the rules to look that up.

Alright, seeking advice for this oracle build that I'm working on. I'm interested in playing a melee tempest oracle (the L1 revelation touch spell is pretty cool). To make sure he is tanky enough, I was planning to take the champion multiclass at level 2. (It also fits the character concept - he's seeking atonement for unintentionally killing a lot of innocent people so joined the church of Sarenrae.)

So in browsing the various spell lists, I found that arcane has quite a few spells that are quite good for melee characters - true strike, false life, haste, etc, so have been cracking my head to find the best way to access them. Realise that since I'm looking more for buffs, I don't actually need to be able to cast them, just need to have access to the arcane spell list so that I can use magic items. (A wand of false life every day is a nice buff.)

I've only found two ways though to get access to the arcane spell list. One is to multiclass again, but with the L2 multiclass to champion, the earliest I can multiclass again is L8 (with L4 and L6 class feats spent on champion dedication feats). The other way is to play a spell-scaled kobold, which unlike other ancestries which gives you access to a cantrip, also gains the "You gain the trained proficiency rank in arcane spell attack rolls and spell DCs". But kobold doesn't quite fit the concept I have of my character.

So, any other ways?

Assuming your familiar has Manual Dexterity, would your familiar pull out a healing potion to feed you if you fall unconscious from dying? Feels like RAW that can't happen because if you don't take an action to command them, they just do nothing. I can understand that animal companions aren't smart enough to do that (maybe they'll just keep licking your face), but familiars should be at least somewhat intelligent to do what it can to keep its master alive? (I mean, they can speak human languages!)

Want to check my understanding of the rules here, as it seems I might have been playing my wild druid wrong.

Consensus I seem to find on the internet is that potency runes bonus do not apply when in battle form. However, looking at the rules more specifically, polymorph trait says "If you take on a battle form with a polymorph spell, the special statistics can be adjusted only by circumstance bonuses, status bonuses, and penalties." So yes, the item bonus from potency runes don't apply in battle form, BUT only for the special statistics.

So for example looking at Animal Form, the special statistics would be for example the +9 attack modifier which would not be modified by potency runes. However, it does also say "If your unarmed attack bonus is higher, you can use it instead." I've thus been taking my regular unarmed attack bonus which would have included the item bonus from the potency rune and being higher than +9, have been using that. (Prof +2, Level +4, Str +3, Item +1 = +10.)

Have I been reading the rules wrong? Do I not count the item bonus in my unarmed attack bonus (i.e. it is considered the Animal Form's special statistics)?

Welcome to my PbP game for PF2E 1-06 Lost on Spirit Road, part of Gameday IX. Hope you would have a blast!

Before we start, I would to share some of my ground rules. (In spoiler tag to not take up space.)

However, if you want your action to take place after another character’s, just indicate accordingly. Also to speed up posting rate, I group the enemies’ initiative block together.

7. RAW and to keep the game moving, I’ll double the damage for critical attacks.

Rolls and Skill Checks
8. I would do your initiative rolls, but generally will leave you to do other rolls unless it is critical to keep the game moving smoothly. Specifically for secret rolls, I have not worked out my system just yet. For some, I may just leave you to roll with results spoilered and trust you not to metagame. I may also roll some just to keep the suspense. We’ll see how this evolves.

9. On skill checks where there could be team effort involved, e.g. finding a hidden trail with survival, influencing attitude of NPCs with diplomacy, please be explicit when making the rolls whether you are attempting the check on your own, or whether you are assisting. (And take note of the pros and cons of either – more attempts means more chances of crit failures.) Also, note that at low levels, aid is often difficult (DC20). Also, please have your stat block updated with the key information. Minimally please have your current hp vs max hp, AC, all three saves and movement. Feel free to include others. If you have read up to here, include your ideal pet surreptitiously in your muster post.

13. Finally, playing by pbp provides many advantages compared to face-to-face games, the chief one being having the time and space to flesh out your thoughts and actions. So please make use of this and have posts that are more than simply dice rolls. :)

Getting Started
Ok with that out of the way, a few tasks before we kick off.

A. Go to the Gameplay page and dot.
B. Go to the maps and handouts page and fill out the table there. Paste your token picture in the Tokens box, according to your preferred marching order. (Feel free to negotiate in the Discussion thread.) Also enter your initiative bonus (usually your Perception but please flag to me attention if otherwise, e.g. Stealth).
C. In this Discussion thread, do your day job rolls (if any), and share whatever OOC information you would like the rest of the party to know about your character e.g. class, level, special abilities. We’ll leave character descriptions and introductions to the gameplay thread later when we are about to start.

Creating my first character and am realising how quickly bulk adds up! Hit upon this idea of having my familiar carrying some of the gear, couldn't find stats (specifically Strength) for familiars to determine how much they can carry. Did I miss it somewhere?

Mature Animal Companions increase their unarmed damage from 1 dice to 2. Does this apply to the 1d4 precision damage by cat animal companions on flat-footed targets?

Welcome to my PbP game for SFS 2-00 Fate of the Scoured God as part of PbP Gameday VIII. Hope you would have a blast!

Before we start, I would to share some of my ground rules. (In spoiler tags to not take up space.)

Guidelines:

PbP Matters
1. This discussion thread is open for all OOC matters, so no ooc tag needed. For OOC matters in the gameplay thread, please use the [ ooc ] tag.

2. Please post at least once a day, including on weekends. Honestly, though, as a special, more frequent posting is definitely better. I’ll personally target at least 2 posts a day for myself. If you have not played a special before, generally each encounter is timed, so we would have a fixed number of days to clear through each. Also, very often, not only would our progress contribute to our individual table success, it would also contribute to the success of all the tables. If you would be away, please let me know in advance where possible, and we can work something out. Otherwise, if you go missing, where necessary, I will bot your characters for the sake of the rest of everyone else. Thus, please leave botting instructions for combat (with dice rolls), space combat and non-combat in your profile page beforehand. Otherwise, I’ll just skip your turns.

3. If you have any disagreements over some of my GM calls or interpretation of the scenario, please take it to the discussion thread or, even better, pm me.

4. If you have played and/or GMed this scenario before, please do not metagame or spoil the plot. And please let me know.

5. I would have thought this would go without mentioning until I encountered this, so… It is the responsibility of the player to keep track of the game, including referencing the map on google slides. I understand that there are times where it is inconvenient to do so. In that case, please be as specific as you can as to where you wish your character to move, what actions to take, etc. If you regularly have issues with accessing the google slides, you might want to reconsider playing via PbP PFS/SFS, as there is always combat, and thus map dependent.

Normal Combat
6. Once surprise (if any) and initiative is determined, for the group of characters who can take actions, I would resolve actions in posting order, NOT initiative order. I used to do the latter but it doesn’t work that well in PbP, so am going with the former instead.

Space Combat
7. I run space combat somewhat differently from the RAW to facilitate posting rate. I’ll roll the initiative at the start for all ships based on the respective piloting checks. Then, once it reaches your ship’s turn, everyone will post but I will resolve the actions in the Engineering – Helm – Gunnery phase order. As such, while you can declare your actions in the open, please have your dice rolls in spoilers. The one exception are the gunners. Gunnery phase might need to wait for all the ship movements to finalise to determine which weapons are available for firing. So Gunners might want to hold your posting until then or set up a series of contingency actions depending on the final facing and positioning. And if you’ve read so far, mention your favourite dog breed. If you can do it surreptitious, kudos to you.

Character Choice
8. In PFS, I’ve pretty much left the players to sort out what characters to play because only in very rare scenarios do an unoptimized party spread have a significantly adverse effect. And players do generally sort it out among themselves. However, due to the nature of space combat, it is beneficial that there are characters who can cover each of the following: (1) charisma-skills, (2) piloting, (3) engineering, (4) computer, and (5) BAB/piloting rank + dex. Of course, it is not detrimental to be lacking in one or other, but if there are 6 mystics, then we might have a problem.

Rolls and Skill Checks
9. I would do your initiative rolls, as well as perception rolls for the purpose of determining surprise (if any).

10. On knowledge checks for general information, I would usually put them in spoilers with the necessary DCs. Just go ahead to roll, and I'll trust that you would resist reading them if the roll fails (or least not to metagame). (Don’t forget that you can make knowledge checks untrained for DC10.) There might be exceptions for plot-critical information though, where I would explicitly ask for checks and only reveal based on what was rolled. As for knowledge checks to identify creatures, I would put the most basic information in spoilers as well, i.e. identity and creature type, as well as one piece of useful information. If your roll would reveal more, I’ll provide in the next post. If you wish, you can ask for what information you want, e.g. DR, resistances, special attacks, etc.

11. On skill checks where there could be team effort involved, e.g. finding a hidden trail with survival, influencing attitude of NPCs with diplomacy, please be explicit when making the rolls whether you are attempting the check on your own, or whether you are aiding. (And take note of the pros and cons of either.) There might be situations where only one character is allowed to attempt the check (and the rest to aid) – I’ll state so explicitly if that’s the case.

12. On skill checks in general, if I feel you have roleplayed well, e.g. gave a good description of what your character does to search for a trail, came up with creative ways to befriend a hostile NPC, gave a very rousing speech, I would give bonuses, or even waive the DC altogether. :)

Roleplaying Matters
13. The maps and handouts link (at the top of the page) would display all the maps, handouts, pictures, etc as the scenario progresses. The most current page would be right on top, while previous ones would be left there for your reference. (Incidentally, Android and IOS has the Google Slides app in case you work off mobile devices.)

14. Please have your full character information up on your character's profile page for my vetting. Also, please have your stat block updated with the key information. I’m most inclined towards this particular template.

A. Go to the Gameplay page and ninja dot, i.e. submit a post then delete it.
B. Go to the maps and handouts page and fill out the table there. (Don’t worry about the 3 boxes below the table, i.e. token, initiative and perception. I’ll take care of that.) For those coming from the previous game, I’ve ported some of your data over. Please update the rest.
C. In this Discussion thread, do your day job rolls (if any), and share whatever OOC information you would like the rest of the party to know about your character e.g. class, level, special abilities. If you have not decided what class to play, you can discuss that here as well. We’ll leave character descriptions and introductions to the gameplay thread later when we are about to start.

We are scheduled to start on 26 Aug. Looking forward! Fantastic!

When you discard Blessing of the Spy to explore, it blesses your check for that encounter. During this encounter can someone play another blessing to bless, even if it normally can’t be played freely? My take is that it should be fine since Blessing of the Spy was not played during that step but wants to clarify though.

There are two instances where the rewards are that "each character gets a new boon of any type". I'm assuming that means the character chooses which type of boon, then selects randomly from the vault? Not that the boon of of random type. And not that the character gets to choose the boon. Thanks.

Sovereign Court

Year of Boundless Wonder

Welcome to my PbP game for the three-parter Gallows of Madness. Hope you would have a blast!

Before we start, I would to share some of my ground rules. (In spoiler tag to not take up space.)

Guidelines:

PbP Matters
1. This discussion thread is open for all OOC matters, so no ooc tag needed. For OOC matters in the gameplay thread, please use the [ ooc ] tag.

2. Please post at least once a weekday, and at least once over the weekend. If you would be away, please let me know in advance where possible, and we can work something out. Otherwise, if you go missing, where necessary, I will bot your characters for the sake of everyone else. Thus, a good idea is to leave botting instructions for combat (with dice rolls) and non-combat in your profile page beforehand. However, I also must admit the next few months I would see some disruptions and might need to pause or slow down the game occasionally. I’ll definitely inform beforehand though.

3. If you have any disagreements over some of my GM calls or interpretation of the rules, please take it to the discussion thread or, even better, pm me.

4. If you have played and/or GMed this module before, please do not metagame or spoil the plot. And please let me know (if you have not done so in the sign-up sheet).

If you regularly have issues with accessing google slides, you might want to reconsider playing via PbP, especially for PFS as there is always combat, and thus map dependent.

Combat
6. Once surprise (if any) and initiative is determined, for the group of characters who can take actions, I would resolve actions in posting order, NOT initiative order. I used to do the latter but it doesn’t work that well in PbP, so am going with the former instead. (Game mechanics-wise, it is effectively people delaying for each other.) However, if you want your action to take place after another character’s, just indicate accordingly. Also to speed up posting rate, I group the enemies’ initiative block together.

Rolls and Skill Checks
7. I would do your initiative rolls, as well as perception rolls for the purpose of determining surprise (if any).

8. On knowledge checks for general information, I would usually put them in spoilers with the necessary DCs. Just go ahead to roll, and I'll trust that you would resist reading them if the roll fails (or least not to metagame). (Don’t forget that you can make knowledge checks untrained for DC10.) There might be exceptions for plot-critical information though, where I would explicitly ask for knowledge checks. As for knowledge checks for monster lore, I would put the most basic information in spoiler as well, i.e. identity and one important info. If your roll would reveal more, I’ll provide in the next post what I feel is most relevant for your character. If you wish, you can ask for what information you want.

9. On skill checks where there could be team effort involved, e.g. finding a hidden trail with survival, influencing attitude of NPCs with diplomacy, please be explicit when making the rolls whether you are attempting the check on your own, or whether you are assisting. (And take note of the pros and cons of either. For example, a poor diplomacy aid roll has no ill effect, but a poor diplomacy roll would worsen attitudes.) There might be situations where only one character is allowed to attempt the check (and the rest to assist) – I’ll state so explicitly if that’s the case.

11. The maps and handouts link (at the top of the page) would display all the maps, handouts, pictures, etc as the scenario progresses. The most current page would be right on top, while previous ones would be left there for your reference. (Incidentally, Android and IOS has the Google Slides app in case you work off mobile devices.)

12. Please have your full character information up on your character's profile page for my vetting. Also, please have your stat block updated with the key information. Minimally please have your current hp vs max hp, AC (normal, touch and flat-footed), all three saves and movement. Feel free to include others. If you have read up to here, include the name of a comic superhero surreptitiously in your muster post.

(Don’t worry about the 3 boxes below the table, i.e. token, initiative and perception. I’ll take care of that.)
C. In this Discussion thread, do your day job rolls (if any), and share whatever OOC information you would like the rest of the party to know about your character e.g. class, level, special abilities. We’ll leave character descriptions and introductions to the gameplay thread later when we are about to start.
D. If you've not decided what character to play, you can discuss it here, too.

I’ll start as soon as everyone is mustererd.

Fantastic!

Year of Boundless Wonder

Welcome to my PbP game for SFS 1-05 The First Mandate, as part of Outpost II.

2. Please post at least once a weekday, and once on weekends. If you would be away, please let me know in advance where possible, and we can work something out. Otherwise, if you go missing, where necessary, I will bot your characters for the sake of the rest of everyone else. Thus, it is a good idea is to leave botting instructions for normal combat (with dice rolls), space combat and non-combat in your profile page beforehand.

7. (There’s no space combat for this scenario but leaving this here for your reference in case you play with me again elsewhere.) I run space combat somewhat differently from the RAW to facilitate posting rate. I’ll roll the initiative at the start for all ships based on the respective piloting checks. Then, once it reaches your ship’s turn, everyone will post (except possibly gunnery phase; see below) but I will resolve the actions in the Engineering – Helm – Gunnery phase order.

Character Choice
8. (Again, the following not really an issue here since no space combat.) In PFS, I’ve pretty much left the players to sort out what characters to play because only in very rare scenarios do an unoptimized party spread have a significantly adverse effect.

If you wish, you can ask for what information you want.

Hi, I'm new to the Card Guild, and got a question. There are usually 3 characters per class deck. Are we allowed to play more than one character from one class deck, so long as we keep track separately which character has which cards from the deck? For example, with OA2, can I concurrently be playing Mavaro and Yoon?

I recently gotten the OA2 class deck, and playing with Mavaro. Got some questions regarding his powers.

A. Play with the top card of your deck face up. You gain all skills that could be used to acquire that card equal to your Knowledge skill.
B. You may discard ([X] or recharge) a card to search your deck for a card and set it aside; shuffle your deck, then put that card on top.

1. What happens when I play a card that says examine my top card or my deck? I assume this includes the top card which is already open? In other words, even though the top card is open, it is still treated in all other regards as part of my deck?

2. Power B says to recharge a card, then shuffle the deck. So that means the recharged card is also shuffled, i.e. won't be at the bottom?

3. We can use our powers anytime within a turn, right? So just before resetting my hand, can I use power B to get a card I want to the top? Then when I reset, it comes into my hand.

4. Can I use the powers repeatedly to address different parts of a card? For example, the following is the Fan of Flames card.

On your combat check against a bane, discard this card to add 1d6 and the Fire trait...
After playing this card, if you do not have the Arcane skill, banish it; otherwise, you may succeed at an Arcane 7 or Fortitude 5 check to recharge this card instead of discarding it.

So let's say when I'm encountering a monster, I reveal a weapon and use power B to bring a card that grants me the Melee skill (power A). I also plat the Fan of Flames to add a 1d6. After that, then I use power B again to grant me the Arcane skill, to attempt to recharge the spell instead of banishing it. Is this play ok?

Minimally please have your current hp vs max hp, AC (normal, touch and flat-footed), all three saves, trackers of limited use abilities, and movement. Feel free to include others.

(Don’t worry about the 3 boxes below the table, i.e. token, initiative and perception. I’ll take care of that.)
C. In your character’s profile page, put up your botting instructions. (see above)
D. In this Discussion thread, do your day job rolls (if any), and share whatever OOC information you would like the rest of the party to know about your character e.g. class, level, special abilities. We’ll leave character descriptions and introductions to the gameplay thread later when we are about to start.

This multi-table special is expected to start on 14 Jan 2019, so mark it on your calendar!

Fantastic!

Year of Boundless Wonder

Welcome to my PbP game for the my game of PFS #9-09 Beyond the Halflight Path as part of PBP Gameday 7.

2. Please post at least once a day. If you would be away, please let me know in advance where possible, and we can work something out. Otherwise, if you go missing, where necessary, I will bot your characters for the sake of the rest of everyone else. Thus, a good idea is to leave botting instructions for combat (with dice rolls) and non-combat in your profile page beforehand.

3. If you have any inputs or disagreements over some of my GM calls or interpretation of the rules, please take it to the discussion thread or, even better, pm me.

If you regularly have issues with accessing the google slides, you might want to reconsider playing via PbP, especially for PFS as there is always combat, and thus map dependent.

Combat
6. Once surprise (if any) and initiative is determined, for the group of characters who can take actions, I would resolve actions in posting order, NOT initiative order. I used to do the latter but it doesn’t work that well in PbP, so am going with the former instead. (Mechanically, it means you are delaying for each other.) So please post as soon as you are able to. If you have actions that could depend on the actions of the rest of the team, just explain under what conditions your character would take what actions and I’ll resolve accordingly.

Rolls and Skill Checks
7. I would do your initiative rolls, as well as perception rolls for the purpose of determining surprise (if any). I generally group all the enemies’ initiative together to speed up posting.

If your roll would reveal more, I’ll provide in the next post. If you wish, you can ask for what information you want, e.g. DR, resistances, special attacks, etc.

9. On skill checks where there could be team effort involved, e.g. finding a hidden trail with survival, influencing attitude of NPCs with diplomacy, please be explicit when making the rolls whether you are attempting the check on your own, or whether you are assisting. (And take note of the pros and cons of either.) There might be situations where only one character is allowed to attempt the check (and the rest to assist) – I’ll state so explicitly if that’s the case.

Welcome to my PbP game for SFS 1-16 Dreaming of the Future.

2. Please post at least once a day. If you would be away, please let me know in advance where possible, and we can work something out. Otherwise, if you go missing, where necessary, I will bot your characters for the sake of the rest of everyone else. Thus, it is a good idea is to leave botting instructions for normal combat (with dice rolls), space combat and non-combat in your profile page beforehand.

Fantastic!

There seems to be a contradiction here and want to see what everyone else thinks is the intended reading.

In the second para in page 284, it says, "You or an ally can ride your animal companion as long as it is at least one size larger than the rider. If you do, it can use only its land Speed unless it has the mount special ability. In addition, if someone is riding your animal companion and it doesn’t have the mount special ability, it can’t use the Work Together action."

But under the Work Together action description, it says, "Your animal companion assists you. You gain the benefits listed in your companion’s Work Together Benefit entry. Your companion can use its other action only to move in order to get into position to take advantage of the Work Together benefits; if your companion doesn’t have the mount special ability and you are riding it, it can’t use any other actions this turn at all."

So the first says that without the mount special ability, it can't use the Work Together action. But the second implies that if you are the one riding it, the animal companion can use the Work Together action.

Either I read it as the latter being a more specific ruling and so trumps the general ruling from earlier. Or there's a typo with the first, and it should have been "if some other than yourself is riding your animal companion...".

Under the Nature skill, it states that to command an animal, you need the animal to obey you and hence need to do handle animal first in that round.

For animal companions, would that be necessary? The sections for druid, nature skill and animal companions are silent on that. My inference is that under the druid section, animal companions are described as being obedient to simple commands. This seems to suggest that a handle animal is not needed - a druid can directly command the animal companion. Otherwise, the druid would need to take two actions (handle animal, command animal) for the animal companion to take two actions. Not really worth it.
