Thank you for being understanding. I just need to get over my issues for a while.

Can I do something that you all probably won't like?

I think I might have to stop the game. I'm suffering from a problem with depression in RL right now, and I think I'll have take a while to get back to being happy and...functioning.

I know this is probably a major inconvenience, but sometime in the future I'll probably come back, and hopefully be a newer and improved self. Hopefully. I'm really sorry about this.

I always figured GMs rolled our stuff when its an unconscious thing, like randomly spotting a secret door or something.

...am I really that bad?

*sigh* Can everyone please just...roll initiative and perception for right now? I'll do this for everybody next time.

...I'll do that then...

Like I said in the recruitment thread, I am new at being a GM. I'll just...go roll for everybody else now...

Finally, as the sun begins to set on this bright and idyllic day, it comes time for the consecration ceremony. Father Zantus takes the podium as people gather in the square before the cathedral once again. All is silent as Zantus starts to recite the Prayer of First Dreaming.

Suddenly a woman's scream slices through the air. A few moments later, another scream, then another. Beyond them, a sudden surge of strange new voices rises - high-pitched, tittering shrieks that sound not quite human. The crowd parts and something low to the ground races by, giggling with disturbing glee as a stray dog that had been laying under a nearby wagon gives a pained yelp and collapses with a gurgle, its throat cut open from ear to ear.

As blood pools around its head, the raucous sound of a strange song begins, chanted from shrill and scratchy voices.

"Goblins chew and goblin bite.
Goblins cut and goblins fight.
Stab the dog and cut the horse,
goblins eat and take by force!

Goblins race and goblins jump.
Goblins slash and goblins bump.
Burn the skin and mash the head,
goblins here and you be dead!
Chase the baby, catch the pup,
bonk the head and shut it up.
Bones be cracked, flesh be stewed,
we be goblins! You be food!"

Everyone roll perception and initiative. Once I put up a map in Campaign Info, state which square your character is occupying.

Once rorek55 introduces Maia into the game, things will get plenty urgent.

Please don't mind my pitiful attempt at describing (or for that matter making interesting) the Swallowtail games.

Cade Mendivesh wrote:
For the remainder of the day he took in the sights and enjoyed the sights and free food. After tasting the curried salmon he inquired, "Where was this made I may need to visit again ."

"It's fantastic, isn't it? Ameiko Kaijitsu cooked the salmon, she's the innkeeper of the Rusty Dragon. Also the daughter of one of Sandpoint's nobles, Lonjiku Kaijitsu, but she luckily couldn't be more different from that man." the elderly Halfling woman passing out curried salmon responds to Cade.

Shayliss Vinder turned to face Corrin, smiled coyly and tossed her dark red hair. "Of course I don't mind Corrin," she says, giving him the longbow. Corrin's first shot hit second outermost circle, and perhaps because of his distraction by thoughts of Riessa, completely missed the second. The third shot however, hit the bull's eye right on target.

Shayliss giggles and applauds. "Here, one blueberry pie...and maybe something better later." she says, winking at the half-elf while handing over a pie.

Festival Games

---

Devil Hunt

Down at the beach by the Old Light is an archery range, run by Shayliss Vinder, one of the general store owner's daughters. Two large targets, with silhouettes of a devilish-looking winged horse, are set up yards away from a firing line. The bull's eye is about where the horse's heart would be. There are bigger concentric circles around the bull's eye. The bored-looking Shayliss Vinder is providing those playing this game longbows, and three arrows to fire at the targets. The prize for a bull's eye is a delicious-smelling blueberry pie, provided by Alma Avertin the baker at Sandpoint's Savories. 1 copper piece to play.

---

Goblin Toss

In the middle of Sandpoint Market Square is a bean bag toss game run by Daviren Hosk, the Goblin Squash Stables owner. A board is set up with lines of three holes. The board is ten feet from a throw line. The closest hole is the largest and the farthest hole is the smallest. Buckets with bean bags sewn to look like goblin are at each of the three stations. The prize for throwing three goblins through the holes (the first hole for kids, the second for women, and the third for men) is a bag of venison jerky. A rumor is being spread that the jerky is actual goblin meat, and some people actually believe it. 1 copper piece to play

----

Old Light Smash

This game is set up at the end of Junker's Way next to the Old Light, run by Aesrick Battlehorn. There is a table with nine square stones stacked on it in a pyramid shape. Three on the bottom, two in the middle, and one on top. There is a firing line 20' from the table. Using the mini-catapult, players have to knock down the stack of stones within three shots. The prize for this game is a small toy catapult. Many mothers are complaining "They're just the right size to shoot an eye out with!" This does not stop them from handing over a copper when their child decides to play.

----

Gecko Race

This game is also in the Sandpoint Market Square on the south side by the docks at the beginning of Market Street, run by the proprietor of the Fatman's Feedbag, Gressel Tenniwar. Two double-lane 30' long tracks are set up next to each other with a three-foot wide gap between the two tracks. Near the starting line are 12 numbered cages with a green gecko inside. It is 1 copper piece to play, and once four people have chosen a lizard, the object is to race them to a finish line. There is no prize for the game, the point of which seems to be the gambling on which gecko will win the race.

And the campaign has begun!

The day of the Swallowtail Festival dawns sunny and bright, despite the crisp autumn chill in the air. Sandpoint is a busy, buzzing hive this day, as local and out-of-town merchants set up stall and tent to sell their goods to the festivalgoers. Travelers from the outlying region and even as far as Magnimar come to Sandpoint through both the wooden southern bridge and the stone gatehouse, greeted at both entries by signs hanging from bent nails with a mirror and the message: "Welcome to Sandpoint! Please stop to see yourself as we see you!"

Locals and travelers gather in the square before the cathedral to hear the opening speeches, and the turnout is quite respectable. The excitement in the air is tangible. The first speaker, Mayor Kendra Deverin steps forward and waves to the crowd.

"Welcome, welcome! It's good to see so many here to celebrate today! Why, I see we even managed to tear Larz Rovanky away from the tannery!" Everybody laughs at the joke at the notorious workaholic's expense, except Larz, whose sour face gives away that he is not amused at Mayor Deverin's jest.

The next speaker is Sheriff Belor Hemlock, a dour Shoanti man, who brings the crowd down a bit with his reminder to be safe around the evening's bonfire, and his request for a moment of silence for those who lost their lives in the fire that burned down the previous church.

The next speaker was scheduled to be local nobleman Lonjiku Kaijitsu, but a sudden illness prevented him from attending. "Yeah, right," a teenage boy sniggers, "Lonjiku Kaijitsu just hates anything fun or frivolous."

The flamboyant theater owner Cydrak Drokkus instead steps up, and brings the crowd's mood back up with a not-completely-irreverent recap of the long process and expense to construct the new cathedral. "And I would like you all to go to the theater tomorrow to attend my new production, "The Harpy's Curse," the lead of Avisera the harpy queen is none other than the Magnimarian diva, Allishanda!"

Father Abstalar Zanthus is the final speaker, who welcomes the festivalgoers once more. He recites the parable of how Desna once fell to the earth, and was nursed back to health by a blind child. In return for the child's kindness, Desna turned her into a swarm of beautiful swallowtail butterflies. Two of Sandpoint's junior priests bring out a cart with a large cage full swallowtails, and release them, to the cheers of the crowd. Children spend most of the day trying to catch the colorful butterflies.

Many games have been set up, including an archery game, a bean bag toss, a game of throwing stones from a miniature catapult, and even a gambling game of gecko-racing.

Lunch is free, provided by Sandpoint's taverns, hoping to bring new customers. The darling of the lunch is once again Ameiko Kaijitsu, with her remarkable curry-spiced salmon and early winterdrop mead, outdoing the White Deer's peppercorn venison and the Hagfish's lobster chowder.

Here is the Discussion for Fate's Mysteries Rise of the Runelords AE campaign.

So...after much thinking, here are the chosen players.

Corrin Whisperwind | TheNine
Quib-Quib Boomie | DekoTheBarbarian
Elurel Seadughter | Sarabian
Maia Silndra Rose | rorek55
Cade Mendivesh | Gnomezrule
Melyanna Tilie | zimmerwald1915

Congrats. I will start the game sometime today.

no prob really, though, unchained skill are on the PFSRD as well, just listed under each skill individually, they also give access to "background skills" in addition to normal skills/level (IE, Know. history, sleight of hand, proffesions, etc)

...I feel real stupid now. Well, now that I CAN look up that for reference, feel free to use unchained skill rules.

I'm back, earlier than I expected. Thank you for making those tables zimmerwald, and to answer your question, use Core Rulebook skills please. I'm able to look up Unchained classes for reference on the PF SRD easily, but not the skills. Hopefully this isn't a problem, just say something if it is.

This is Cade Mendivesh Varisian Cleric of Desna. Happy to make stat and equipment changes if you like the fluff.

I approve!

Also, everybody, I will be busy all of tomorrow. I will be back on August 16th, when the recruitment ends, and choose the players. Until then, anybody else, feel free to make a submission.

I've decided I wont get to play her in CC, so I retooled the story a bit, and quite easily worked her into this one. Let me know if she is OK for this. Note, the stats in the side bars are wrong. It's just not letting me edit them from my phone... She is my run at a blaster wizard.
I see you have the Outlander trait. Could you specify for me whether it is Outlander: Lore Seeker, Outlander: Exile, or Outlander: Missionary? I had asked for a campaign trait from the Rise of the Runelord's Anniversary Edition Player's Guide specifically, but I guess I shouldn't say no. Also, let me see if I have your backstory straight; you are an Emberkin Aasimar of elven ancestry, and unfortunately often mistaken for a tiefling, you were apprenticed to a wizard, and when a fire broke out in your city/town where you were studying, the citizens blamed you and ran you out of town. Your lover also was grievously wounded trying to protect you?

Outlander, lore seeker. I can change it if necessary.

In order of your questioning -
Yes, a distant angelic ancestry that was mixed with a fallen angel(demon). She doesn't have horns/fangs but does have the eyes of a teifling and where she lived, as a whole, saw her silver markings as 'evil' as they resembled that of evil deities symbols. (And, growing up in the country of Ustalav doesn't help).

Ran out of sorts, more like, teleported.
No no, lover was killed, her mentor was wounded and would be dead in about another minute or less. She came looking for more powerful magic and possibly a way to return her mentor to life from gold. (As she had somehow manage to turn him to through a flesh->stone spell that remained permanent)

Wild life eh?

If it's a bit to outlandish/far fetched I have a fighter I could apply with.

Ah. Well then, I'll be considering you this Sunday!

DM, are you allowing drawbacks? also I should mention. I played the first book as a table top game. Back when it first came out 3.5 our group was very small (2 player) so a lot of it was nerfed. also why we never finished

Quib-Quib Want to link up our background stories? Thinking you saved me on the trip to sandpoint. That way I can vouch for you in town, as a tame goblin.

Yeah, I suppose you can have a drawback. Also I don't much care if you already know Burnt Offerings as long as you separate player knowledge from character knowledge.

Been busy, I'll look over the recent posts now and respond later.

That said, I've decided on my changeling oracle to submit, Elurel Seadaughter. She's not a typical oracle build, but should be all the more interesting because of that.

I give you thumbs up for your character!

Everyone who asked if they should tweak their characters, go ahead, I'll consider them. Also, there is until Sunday for more submissions.

We're up to our eyeballs in investigators\rangers\sorcerers, goblin watchers, monster hunters, and friends and enemies.

A goblin PC would be amusing.

Now that I'm officially awake and have started my day -

Deko, that's cool, I look forward to the next character you submit.

Are unchained monks okay? I've had an interest in checking one out, but it's not a concept I'm dedicated to.

My other thought is a changeling oracle of waves, trying to resist the call of the ocean that her sea hag mother is consistently putting out. If changelings are also a no-no, I've got plenty of backups.

An unchained monk is okay, if you prefer it. The only class that has to use unchained rules is the summoner. And changelings are one of my favorite races!

Sure.

How do you feel about android as a race?

Android would be more suited to an Iron Gods campaign, but I'll probably allow that if you have a good enough backstory.

Nope, no PFS credit, sorry.

Sorry, that was me, the GM.

Yes, somebody else is going to be running the ever-popular Rise of the Runelords.

A word of caution - this is going to be my first experience as a Game Master.

Still interested? Then I'll move on.

Character Creation Rules
---
1.) 18 point buy. Probably a little weird, but there you have it.
2.) One campaign trait from the RotRL AE Player's Guide, and one other trait of your choosing.
3.) If you want to play an exotic race, ask first. But no drow.
4.) If you want to play a summoner, please use the Unchained Summoner. No summoner archetypes, and no gunslingers.
5.) Your available gold will be the average for your class.
6.) 1st-level, max HP.
7.) Good or Neutral alignments.
---

An important note about maps. I will be using maps differently. They will be something like this -

|A1|A2|A3|
|B1|B2|B3|
|C1|C2|C3|

Your PC's position would be indicated by stating which square you are in. Objects in the environment and enemies will be listed by myself.

If you have any questions or criticism, please be polite. I'll be recruiting until August 16th.
