Must have mis-remembered something. That was a discussion about a cool feature Ultima Online had. Humanoid NPCs could loot player's corpses and if you killed that NPC you'd get your loot back. EDIT: Other players could kill that NPC and get your looted items too. ![]()
![]() For every allowance or rule in creating a name you invite problems and the potential for abuse. Keep naming as simple as possible. It might upset some players that their uber-creative name isn't allowed in game, but they'll get over it pretty fast. I'd rather have one person complain in the forums that their name wasn't allowed than have 100 players confused or upset about an uber-creative name. A name with the option of a surname should be the only choice. One capital letter required at the beginning of each name followed by at least one lower case letter. That would allow for a minimum name length of two letters. No symbols, spaces, dashes, apostrophes or diacritics should be possible. There is no rule or precedence that dictates a fantasy name needs to deviate from this formula. It would be fool proof to implement on the character creation screen. If you only used the 'Q' button it would look like this: Qqqqqqqqqqqq Qqqqqqqqqqqq. The minimum name would be Qq or Qq Qq if they choose to have a surname. ![]()
![]() A shadow appears at the door, but no one seems to notice the crazy haired old man apparently deep in thought. By his body language you can tell he's trying to remember something. After a few minutes he grins slightly with a look of recognition. You could tell he remembered why he came to this place. At the top of his lungs he yells out, "Carnage is coming! Peace through fear! His will be done!" He quickly disappears into the night laughing maniacally as he runs as fast as he can to the nearest group of people to spread his message. ![]()

Summersnow. Show up if you want to go. It's an open invitation to chat. Not an open invitation to open a 20 page approval poll to see if you might attend... ![]()
![]() Oh! To keep on subject. Ultima Online was very strict on what colors you could dye things. There was a Human NPC group that had dark maroon cloaks that could be chopped up into cloth and remade into other cloth items. People payed huge amounts of gold just for a slightly off-color piece of clothing. Black dye tubs were originally an exploit, but were eventually made legal. Neon dye tubs (puke) were hard to get and became the "in" thing. Elite or rare colors would really help crafters create unique brands. Making certain colors extremely rare would be beneficial to the crafting community and become a status symbol for other players who could afford the rarer colors. ![]()

Andius, Pax Gaming is all about integrity. I hope you are not referring to us. I passed by this post many a time and never thought to chime in. One person on our forums mentioned this thread and here we are. ![]()
![]() The first time I heard of Pax Imperius was when I was playing Star Wars Galaxies in 2003. They had a huge presence on the Scylla server. I always saw them running around together in groups with awesome armor and weapons. From what I saw, they were fair to other players during PvP. I was impressed by their honor, but feared trying to join because I assumed they were too elitist to let me join. Boy was I wrong! I finally had the courage to look up the website and decided to apply just for the heck of it. They welcomed me with open arms. They didn't care that my character's main ability was dancing for tips in cantinas so I could afford to buy a good suit of armor. They cared about me as a person. I was able to move my little house to Pax's headquarters, Dark City on Corellia. I was amazed. No wonder I never saw them milling around the normal crafting areas or cities. They had everything they needed in one place. A month later I was one of the finest Teras Kasi (unarmed) fighters around and a well known doctor. Not because they required me to become that but because I wanted to be able to support them, us. A couple of months later I was an officer in The Hounds, a subdivision of Pax Imperius. The dynamics, fun, interactions, PvP, events... you name it have been unforgettable. A lot of that was lost with the cut and dry theme park games, but the community and friendships survived no matter which game we played. I'm hoping Pathfinder Online will bring back all the epicness Pax was known for in a sandbox game. Don't be afraid to apply. It's well worth it! |
