Valeros and his trusty sidekick Lem (or Lem and his big meatshield Valeros, depending on which one you ask) handed Karzoug's rune-covered kiester to him this afternoon, making judicious use of Scrying and Augury to stack the Runewell (as Karzoug is a guy you don't want to fight more than once if you can help it). After some intense negotiation over the loot, our heroes walked away with the following stats and equipment:

Character Name: Valeros

Power Feats: Hand Size +1; Add 1d4 +2 to another character's combat check at your location; When you play a weapon, you may recharge it or shuffle it into your deck instead of discarding it; You may use Melee in place of Ranged when using a Weapon with the Ranged trait; Add 2 to your check to acquire a weapon; When you play a blessing to add to your Strength check, add d12 instead of the normal die.
Card Feats: +3 Weapon, +1 Armor, +2 Items, +1 Blessing

Okay, that makes sense. Thanks, Hawkmoon.

I've seen a related question answered here about you not being able to permanently close a location as "empty" while a monster is held by the Medusa Mask, because the location isn't really empty.

My situation is different. I held a monster with the Mask, then encountered and defeated a Henchman, and successfully closed the location that way. I assume the held monster gets banished at the end of the turn?

Btw, the answer to this is also relevant to this thread, presently unanswered.

Yeah. That is character sheet for Fighter Class Deck Valeros. Valeros represents for Paizo what an iconic fighter would look like. Hence, when they want to include a fighter in the game, his name will be Valeros. He will be pretty similar to the other fighters named Valeros that have come before him, but with slightly different skills powers and card lists, and totally different roles.

In other words, a cardboard Dread Pirate Roberts.

Because I'm obsessive-compulsive and haven't finished Rise of the Runelords yet. That said, I plan to. Nothing makes a game better than having a justification to finish every sentence with, "Yarrrr, matey!"

Har. This would have definitely made my run-through of Here Comes the Flood a bit less hectic, as I adopted the less-favorable interpretation. For the record, I still won 6-4 by burning blessings and allies whenever possible to take extra explores. It was a very near thing regardless, as Magga was rolling big on the locations she cleared legitimately in the early going. Made for a very fast round. I think it was over in less than 12 turns, but I knew that my target number was five allies for a 2-character game, and I grabbed that about three turns before the location decks ran out.

Ultimately, I think it may have given Magga two pulls she wasn't entitled to, and shaved at least 3-4 turns off the scenario. So, you can win the harder way, at least with just two characters, but I'm glad I don't have to.

Incidentally, this does make a lot more sense in light of the scenario card's assumption that you'll likely see the Blessings deck exhaust before the location decks. With the tougher interpretation, that's virtually impossible.

Thanks for the riveting game, Mike. This is a two-man run with Valeros and Lem. Only two scenarios required multiple attempts: Trouble at Sandpoint was hideous--five attempts needed; The Fort in Peril required two attempts. No deaths. Here's where we stand at the half:

Armors: Snakeskin Tunic
Items: Wand of Enervation, Belt of Incredible Dexterity, Medusa Mask

Character Name: Valeros

I'm trying a two-character shakedown with Valeros and Lem. They complement each other quite well--Valeros is fantastic at clearing combat heavy locations, and Lem is a great utility player/healer. They have very little gear overlap, and they tend to be able to handle location closing with little worry. Their Achilles' heel is Wisdom, which Lem isn't terribly strong on, and Valeros downright stinks at, which makes Sirens and Goblin Warchanters a right pain in the rump. Later, when Valeros is strong enough to punch a 'chanter to death reliably, it's not quite so huge.

Now that Lem has the Returning Throwing Axe +1 (which I can guarantee he starts with), he can defend himself without resorting to as many attack spells, and I've switched over to useful stuff like Speed and Scrying.

Kept the Lightning Bolt, though (heh).

Thanks, Mr. Kabag. Just ordered the last three adventures from CSI, and looking forward to seeing if the Valeros/Lem combo holds up the rest of the way.

A couple of sessions were sufficient to produce noticeable chipping on the Base and Expansion 1 RotR cards. When I discovered that the second expansion was noticeably darker than the base set, that tore it.

I'm using standard Blue Ultra Pros. It's a pretty snug fit on the cards, and shuffling is generally hassle-free, and it solves both problems. It makes for a tight fit in the box, particularly right when you add the Expansion 3 cards, but the fact that you're siphoning off Basic and, later, Elite cards throughout the succeeding expansions helps a bit.

Did they avoid all these issues with Skull and Shackles? Trying to figure out how many extra jobs I need to take on to pay for it.
