My gut tells me that the spell lists are really trimmed down for the purposes of the play test. You're basically testing a few things with the spell list now... heightening mechanic for example... but admixture options (for example) on a fireball aren't there. For purposes of this play test, it's pretty much just "area damage spell" and so on rather than the flavorful, higher level things that do "damage and persistent burn" or what have you.
When you look at it, there's a lot of redundancy between spell lists that I would hope becomes more distinct as we get closer to the final product.
That's my take on it at least. A cleric might have the Heal spell heightened to every level (presuming he can't channel or maybe on top of one who can).
The one that bothers me is heightening shield. Unless you're an elf and can spam it every round, nobody's really going to prepare that spell at a heightened level at the expense of some other third level spell.
I think that as long as the term "basic save" is introduced and defined as to game impact in the section about saving throws, it will not be a problem. Probably should include the type of basic save (liked the parenthetical note) in the spell blocks though.
So, in the saving throw primer on "how spells work" it'd be easy to indicate that "basic save" is transitive to any spell that says the words "basic save (type)" in it. Then you could have basic Fort, Ref, and Will saves.
That sure would save some word count that could be used for more content which I am a fan of!
I could see a 20 level class that is a take on the Synthesist Summoner. Call it "Mech Jockey" (or something more streamlined really :) ) but you could fix the issues that some have with the class and scale it nicely.
Honestly, I have done this in Pathfinder with the Synthesist Summoner. The eidolon was a biped but skinned as a steampunk-esque golem and a tinkerer gnome would "crawl into the chest compartment" and pilot it around.
It was powered by the gnome's magic and, if hit with a potent enough dispel (for example), it would fall to pieces and the chest compartment would pop open (thus being the same as a banished eidolon vanishing). The interface of the golem allowed for the gnome's magic to flow through it so, if the gnome cast grease, a grease nozzle would pop up and spray. Buff spells were the pilot's ability to enhance things "on the fly" (mostly buffs) since he made it, he knows the best way to get that extra boost without breaking it.
Later on, as the eidelon itself added powers, they were skinned as tech too (ex. breath weapon as a "flame thrower" or boot jets as flight). It would not take a long stretch.
If you folded in the new features of Starfinder into a class that worked like that, you basically could do scalable mecha class of a wide variety... size huge mechs, blasty mechs, flying mechs, and so on.
I'm a local and a foodie so I might have some suggestions worth looking over:
The parking on South Street around Delaware is a bit more scarce as they are turning it into apartments last I heard. That was the lot directly south of Banker's Life Fieldhouse (which was dirt cheap).
If you do the early morning breakfast thing, go to Yolk (220 E. South Street, Indianapolis, IN 46204)... you're welcome.
This is more galvanizing my own thoughts with a fellow gamer who happens to have what it took more than anything else, so please forgive my forwardness. I find the idea of a Summoner Archetype interesting.
I was a bit worried that I might get DQ'd for submitting something that is not an archetype. No summoner archetypes have been published yet, so I took a huge risk by doing away with the eidolon. However, in my humble opinion, it's not actually the eidolon that is the summoner's main shtick - it's the evolutions. Also, the fleshbinder is actually more likely to use his summon monster SLA than the regular summoner, and therefore, he still is a Summoner, perhaps even more so than the regular summoner.
I think it was a good idea though we'll have to agree to disagree on what makes a Summoner a Summoner. Anyhow, my ruminations about round two centered around APG classes (especially Summoner) as they would be "fresh meat" and not suffer by any existing comparison. Sadly, I did not have what it took to make the 32 but the ideas are fun to spitball.
You're right about multiclassing/dipping. It was one of my biggest concerns when designing the archetype, and ultimately, I could not find a satisfactory way to deal with the multiclassing issue within the word limit. I decided that it's more important to wow potential voters with flavor and an imaginative core concept than try to cover all corner cases. Had this been an actual paid commission, I would have given it more thought.
Capturing the voter's hearts seems to be the right tactic to take as (in my opinion) most voters can overlook "this is mechanically broken" knowing that, before it's published, it will get fixed but a "that's cool, I want to see that in a splat book" entry will almost certainly gather votes. I understand that choice.
To limit dips, what about only allowing the allocation of evolution points at a rate of X per day where X is the current Summoner Level where the max that can be applied is the summoner level squared (i.e. a 2 point evolution requires a 4th level summoner, etc. up to a max of 16th for applying 4 pt evolutions)?
It should be mentioned, however, that "magic attacks" only applies to natural weapons, making it quite useless for most fighters. Also, the resistance evolution scales with summoner levels (or in this case, fleshbinder levels). Though of course, resist 5 vs. two or three energy types is nothing to sneeze at.
Touché about magic attacks but I would say that could still apply to a Monk... no? Especially if you can slap energy damage on a flurry of blows. Then again, monks get that normally at a level I don't recall at work. :)
That seems to be the right tactic to take as (in my opinion) most voters can overlook "this is mechanically broken" knowing that, before it's published, it will get reviewed but "that's cool, I want to see that in a splat book" will almost certainly gather votes. I am behind that choice.
To limit dips, what about only allowing the allocation of evolution points at a rate of X per day where X is the current Summoner Level where the max that can be applied is the summoner level squared (i.e. a 2 point evolutions can be applied at 4th level, etc. up to a max of requiring 16th for applying 4 pt evolutions)? You can still get some neat tricks for a four level investment in the class which is less of a dip and more of a multiclass.
The summoner has 2/3 BAB, actually. The eidolon is an outsider and gets 1/1 BAB, but since the eidolon only gets 15 HD over the 20 summoner levels, they both end up having BAB +15 at level 20. The summoner has many buffs on his spell list, so hitting creatures won't be a huge problem.
Whoops, looked at their Fort save! Touché again(silly smaller screen on my nook!)
I was thinking of the BAB of the eidolon at earlier stages but there's not an elegant way to address that.
I guess the description of Alien Augmentation isn't as clear as it should be, but the way I intended it is that you allocate a number of evo points that affect all summoned creature only when you level up, not every time you summon a creature.
Yep, that's not a bad way to address it. So, in practice, a summoner at one level could allocate two evolution points and then make everything he summons immune to an energy?
Serpent, I think that you did make a bold choice but I don't think I'd vote for it. Here's why (if my two cents or feedback means anything to ya)
This is not a Summoner. It completely guts what the class is about (i.e. the fighter who can't fight but can cast spells is really a wizard). The way it’s presented, it seems better suited to an Alchemist with some kind of variation on mutagen that works similar to the summoner evolutions. They have the Chymst PrC that kind of takes that tactic. Granted, it's not "evolutions" per se but the Summoner is the quintessential "pet class" and to take that away makes it a NonSummoner versus an Archetype
As written, a character can dip one level in the class and get quite a few benefits. So, as a fighter, I'd love to get the one point Magic Attacks evolution and two scaling energy resistance evolutions for the three evolution points I would get for one level dip in the class. Never mind if I wanted to get a two point evolution for an unnamed, stackable +2 to an ability of my choosing... ultimate dip class.
What would the summoner do with the Evolutions? Get more attacks? At a .33 BAB, even evolutions that give more attacks would just be a flurry of misses. Now, if they got the Eidelon's BAB… that might work might be different. So that leaves them with energy resistances, fast healing, DR, breath weapon, etc. but what is this variant going to do until he can qualify for those evoloutions (energy resistance/immunity nonwithstanding)?
I do like the Augmentation of Summoned Creatures. That ability would be cool enough to base the Archetype on just by itself. Like a pool of power that gets shunted around or siphoned away from the Eidelon. Now, you'd have to do something about the unlimited versatility you'd get (i.e. "Oh, we're fighting salamanders? Let me just make this [INSERT CREATURE HERE] I summon immune to fire as a part of the summoning action). Perhaps, if you invested the Evolution points, you'd use them until you dismiss/resummon your Eidolon or the number of Evolution points being based on the Summon Monster level used (i.e. Summon Monster V can have 5 evolution points applied to it). Point is, I like that ability but it needs a lot of thought on abuses.
Congratulations to the top 16! To all of you, I'd like another helping of awesome please!
To those who did not advance, be proud. You did well amid some stiff challenges and should wear your "2011 Top 32" with pride. I envy your getting the industry feedback on your writing but am genuinely happy for your progress this year.
I do not know the rules nearly as well as I thought I did. But I did learn a lot while researching my wondrous item. And even more when working on archetypes.
Areas improved on:
1) environment rules
2) universal monster rules
3) conditions
Thanks to Paizo for the competition motivating me to delve deeper into the rules!
We all thought we were awesome or we wouldn't have submitted items.
Just put on your favorite "getting work done" music and have a montage man. We'll come back at it next year and see what work we can get this year.
Personally, I am just thinking about how, when things gain momentum, how many strong entries are going to be submitted as this thing continues to snowball. Makes me wish I would have jumped on this thing when nobody knew about it. :)
That's the thing with your mention of rules too. There are a lot and, to quote from Farscape, "Baby's gonna get bigger." It's only going to grow from here as more releases like Ultimate Magic come out to give us new feats, spells, mechanics, and so on to chew on. Then it's Ultimate Combat or one of the companion products. Then its new Bestiaries... and so on. It can be a bit much as you imagine the snowball at the bottom of the hill, but that's also cool too in that there will be a wealth of material to draw our inspiration from.
I have to get sappy for a second... this hobby is outstanding. I am so thankful that such a great team took up the torch of a game I have enjoyed since I was a kid and not only ran with it but are starting to outpace the original torch bearer! Thank you to the folks at Paizo and all contributors (among who's ranks I aspire to join) for your excellent work!
Description
Souls of ancient rulers form a chorus of kings indentured to provide guidance and insight to heirs who bear this extravagant jewel while enforcing a natural order of succession. The gem is commonly affixed to a crown, scepter, or other symbol of office but must be carried or worn to function. The gem attunes itself to the bearer over a period of 24 hours after which its powers may be used.
Once per day as an immediate action, the bearer may gain a +15 insight bonus to AC against a single attack or saving throw. Alternatively, this insight bonus may be applied to a single Charisma based or Knowledge skill check per day, and the user is treated as trained for that check. Regardless of the use, the insight bonus must be applied before knowing the outcome.
The bearer may call upon the chorus of kings once daily as a standard action to give counsel on future events. Only the user perceives this guidance and the exact nature of these manifestations are determined by the GM. Due to the cryptic nature of this guidance, the omens prove accurate 85% of the time. Sometimes, when the kingdom is in dire need, the omens manifest spontaneously as thoughts, dreams, or other visions at the GM’s discretion, and this spontaneous use counts as the daily use of the ability.
The soul of an attuned bearer joins the chorus of kings immediately upon death. Attempts to raise the bearer of the gem via Conjuration (healing) magic must make a caster level check (DC 25) or the spell fails.
Construction Requirements Craft Wondrous Item, Divination, Moment of Prescience; Cost 43,000gp
Personally, I like that it's scalable. Too often, a hero will discard their trusty sword simply because it's "on to the bigger, better one" which kind of bugs me. It would be great if you could find an item at third level, get some use out of it but still have it with you at 20th. This one you can.
Granted, you can get some pretty nasty stuff (Linorm venom or the Sard's poison come to mind) at those higher levels but, then again, if you defeat them in battle HELL YEAH you should be able to get awesome stuff from them or sell that distilled venom for phat loot. Just like people always fawn over a dragon's hide for armor...
That in mind, it does change the total value of treasure gained as you are now adding in the extracted poison into that mix as a bonus. Granted, compared to the rest of the hoard, it's probably a nonfactor but that's a thought that came to mind.
Yummy flavor aside, the potential damage you take by using this item is way too high for me to consider it practical or useful.
Yeah, I am kind of with him on this one. Perhaps a flat damage/level or smaller damage die (like d4 or even d2) would make this a. The image calls up a snake's fangs penatrating the skin... not, say, a Greatsword (2d6).
I like this and want to take it on a Heavens Oracle I am thinking of. :) Interesting to see the love/hate that some people have with it. I certainly fall into the love category.
No new feedback to the critique on requirements, etc. Perhaps a reduced effect on a made save like 1/2 the wisdom damage and only Shaken...
As with others, not much new to say by way of critique and the range jumped off the page at me. It seemed like "let me make sure I can nail those enemy casters hanging back at maximum range" kind of provision which is kind of "meh" for me. Anyway, that's been said already.
I do like the stealing voice thing and using it in disguise. Nice touch. Heck, I would have bought this item if it would nuke a single enemy caster and give the bonus to impersonate... the sound burst isn't even necessary to make this cool in my opinion.
I like the theme of this one quite a bit. I spend some time thinking about this very thing... usefulness for a bird. You've done that in an item so even better because you don't have to risk consequences to a class feature like an Animal Companion.
Mechanically, I echo the sentiment that you don't need another battlefield object to track so the immaterial bird is fine with me. I do stick on the bonus on the combat manuver though. It seems like it's 9+Caster Level of the glove? IDK, it seems kind of arbitrary and I would want to have a sense for it so that I could make this cool item for a higher level character so it could work on beasties and NPC's that naturally have higher CMD's at those levels.
I know that in my ROTRL campaign, the haunts gave people trouble (partially because they did not notice them and partially that, when they did notice them, they took no action to counter it).
I would be a fan of having a one shot bonus to resit said haunt versus just notice/delay it but that's why it's your item and not mine. :)
Congratulations! I have GMed a Monk, played alongside a Monk, but never played one myself so I feel I have to qualify my post with that as my feedback may be completely unfounded.
Like others, I like that it gives another use for Ki aside from the ubiquitous extra attack or the dodge bonus to AC. Big fan of that. I also like the use of prayer beads for the item. Good stuff.
I am not so sure on the storing Ki beyond their daily allotment. I guess I shouldn't have an issue with that... I mean, rings can store spells and, hell, weapons can too so what's the harm with a little Ki? I suppose it warrants more thought.
Congratulations! No new feedback on this other than to echo the sentiments that the wording kind of lost me on this. I would have been OK with measureless, extradimensional spaces (5 in total to keep the "Fifts" theme going). Good idea tho so good luck in the next rounds!
Congratulations! I like the ride the lightning effect and ruminate on when I last saw that spell in print and I can't think of it. Was it called "Ride the Lightning"? Now I'm gonna have to go back and find it now...
First of all, congratulations! I like the shaping of the channel quite a bit. Most of my criticisms have been noted by others but I wanted to chime in that I liked the shaping.
I am sure that negative energy clerics are salivating at the opportunity create the evil twin of this one and have it generate Darkness (or something similar) so they can drop a channel bombs in a line or single target within 400' versus having to get closer.
Yeah, maybe it's the "Westerner" in me (my European friends say so at least) but I did not enter because I was just "happy to be here." I came to grab the brass ring and took my best shot. Maybe my A game is weak (eagerly looking forward to feedback thread) but to be disappointed at not making the cut is human. I would be some kind of Numerian automation otherwise. :)
Now, how I handle that disappointment is pivotal IMO. So, while it sucks that my entry did not have what it took to be among the top 32, the chance at some great industry feedback will suffice for now. Thank you to the judges for their feedback in advance and the time and effort involved in sifting the wheat from the chaff.
I'm going to take a deep breath and start the music on my self improvement montage:
Oh, now you're just sucking up to one of the judges. ;-)
Isn't that kind of moot at this point? ;)
Anyhow, having played the 4E version of the game I grew up with, I too must lob a thank you at Ryan because if I were stuck playing 4E I think that a little portion of my soul would shrivel up and fall off.
I don't know what you guys are talking about. I slept just fine.
;-)
Neil, you are E-vil from the Deh-vil... then again, I didn't have to sort through the piles and piles of submissions so I guess I can't complain too much. ;-)
I satisfied my twitch with reading Oracle Mysteries as I lie in bed (likely going to play one soon) and got a full 8. Now if I can only keep from clicking "Refresh" for the next seven and a half hours...
For a stand-alone adventure (the likes of which our winner will be writing), what do you feel makes a good hook?
A good hook is one that makes players want to continue playing and that can be tricky. Some need the brass ring in their nose and I can't say how many times that "agile hooks" have been overlooked in the rush to kill things and take their stuff. On the other hand, with more obvious hooks, players run the risk of immediately becoming suspicious. I think that the best literature contains a blending of both types so that, if the "strong hook" does not get the reader to turn the page, perhaps they will turn the page for the more subtle ones.
I think it goes without saying (but I'm going to say it anyhow) that a standalone adventure should have a strong hook place on the front cover - it's title.
re: deity- sure, have fun. Keep in mind this is a heroic swashbuckling campaign (or will be), good guys doing good things.
re: Gear: yup, standard gold for 4th, no more than 33% on any one item. Check out the discussion thread for more details, I'm a spaz and they are scattered throughout the thread :)

Gotcha on the Deity... I will likely 'port one of the Core ones and just modify it to have the flavor I am looking for so that we can ensure the balance of it. I was thinking of Maya (if you are familiar with the Hindu religion) or somesuch.
On the gear: No problem... I am not one of those players... ;)
Eric, please go ahead and stat out your character and post him, I think there are more than enough ways to bring him in :) Let me know when you are ready to go, and I'll make it fit.
Awesome! I will whip it up when I return home at 6pm eastern tonight.
Allright, Level 4, 18 point buy... hmm. A few outstanding questions:
Religion - I note that your homebrew gods have not come out to play so should I just pick domains or can I make it up? If I have that license to make it up, what about favored weapon (was thinking unarmed strike)? Do I have any artistic license when it comes to that (obviously, I have a god cooking in my mind already)?
Equipment - How are we handling this? Standard for the level?
@Eric We are at a dramatic moment where our druid just fled screaming when an undead appeared, and we are hoping to rendezvous/communicate with the main forces as we are an advanced scouting party. I would think a prophetic vision would easily accomplish this, you came in with the army and felt a compulsion etc....
Yeah, I read that in the thread (BTW, a nice way to have a player exit stage right... :) ) and was thinking how I would come in to the scene aside from a "poof, he's there" way (I am thinking of OOTS when the wizard remembers that "I have a familiar" and it pops into the frame).
If I am the one selected (waiting on confirmation from Ender as I don't want to be so bold as to presume), I can have a character created that day (I keep hero lab at home) so I am awaiting confirmation. It might be very dramatic as a party with a few caster types is facing down a "hungry undead warrior" thing to have a full on cleric come into the scene as that would a slow pitch into my clerical wheelhouse.
As always, looking for CHARACTERS, not builds. Why does your PC adventure? Why would your PC have joined a band of (seemingly) honorable mercenaries to defend a remote town from raiders? Where is my beautiful house?
I would be interested in playing a cleric or perhaps an oracle. A few things... the google link for the campaign background won't let me log in so I am not sure of religions, gods, political background, etc.
I saw a few posts up that "making up" a god is acceptable. Still? Also, what about the favored weapon of the god?
Submitted for Your Consideration:
It is by the will of The Ever Present that some die never having lived a life of insignificance and some toil in a long life of little meaning; yet, others are marked by the clawed finger of destiny to be more than they ever thought they would become. My brother and I were born... identical twins... which is a prophetic omen in and of itself but, when the Guleg at the temple raised me up and anointed me the reincarnation of their spiritual leader (dead these past five years), I instantly became more. I was given the best food and finest teachers while my brother - my companion before birth - was shuffled off to a life of quiet anonymity and poverty. Yet he remains my that quite confidant and advisor even though he was not the one chosen. He is always so calm and serene... I recognize The Unbeheld's grace in him and see it exercised on a daily basis.
I find, in times of my darkest self doubt, that I quietly fear they were mistaken when they selected me. I fear that he was the one and the Guleg simply selected wrong... he's only human after all. That is why I have undertaken this journey of not only transient flesh but also of mind and spirit. If I am truly what they say I am then the Unbeheld's Mantle will preserve me with both my body and spirit intact. I am not sure of my path as I have little experience on this plane of consciousness but I have become aware of one thing for a certainty, having people dote on me does little to prove my worthiness for the honors that have been liberally bestowed upon me. Title is not an indication of worth... deed and action define the impact of a man.
Thus, I got out bolstered by the Unbeheld's will, into the world. I take what martial training that I was given and what little I know about the outside world with me to guide and guard me on my way. I must leave my dear mother and brother behind me along with the life of comfort that I have known all of my life. I will cut my braid at the first opportunity I get and tear my clothes or dress more simply. My braid is a sign of wisdom that I have not yet earned... my clothes a sign of status that was given to me through nothing more than an accident of birth. I hear stories of the one before me and, like him, I go to traverse the Golden Path to arrive at my destiny or die in the attempt... which would only validate my secret fear... that I am not the one.
I am the conduit for the will of the Everpresent... servant, warrior, priest, and more. I will face my path along with my fear to realize my ultimate destiny.
In pondering how I would insert my character "in medias res" I was thinking that I could have had a prophetic vision leading me here and perhaps I come into the scene at a dramatic moment.
I am at work ATM but I will plan on using Hero Lab to create my character if accepted (still 4th level?).
Let me know what you think and I will have a character whipped up by tonight if so. I post pretty much any time of day though sometimes I can be scarce from 9a-6p eastern as I work during that time. I can post at least daily however.
Male Gaming Degenerate Slacker 5/Commoner 16 (w00t! Epic Level)
thanks Grim for taking on this n00b... so here come the barrage of n00b questions.
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21 Testing this as I have never done PbP before.
How are we handling tactical elements? I have seen GMs layer maps and share them to the group and I have seen some that just abstract it by doing away with AOO and making it more "2nd Edition."
How are we handling conversation? I presume that I would state something and direct it to [NPC or PC to be named later] but do you prefer things I say to be posted in Bold? I am familiar with the OOC posts.
Will we need to IM you? For example, if we are being sneaky and following a PC for example, their knowledge of this can lead to meta decision making. If we IM you, it takes that out... just curious how we handle those "little slips of paper moments."
You mention to have my character updated in a profile. Do I just create a new one? Should I also create a character name that I can post under so that it's not confusing who is who?
About me if you care:
I have been playing ever since first edition when my brother used to DM for me and my friend. I am the GM of my regular gaming group and we have played Pathfinder since the open beta came out but, with the noted exception of two or three players, they are pretty "RPlite" in that they equate body count with success. I am looking to break away from that here if I have leave to do so. I have several reference materials if anyone needs background on the world... please just ask and I will happily spitball ideas. I work in a place with internet access and live on the web at home. Things do get busy from time to time but I will update the group if that happens... I am east coast (from Indiana) so my post times will vary but I can tag a thread, right? That way, I can keep up as posts come in.
I have much more history for P'Aye in my head which I plan to slowly unravel. However, should you as GM need a bit more detail (beyond the Forlorn Mother, unknown likely arcane father, countless other possible siblings that mother never told us about, adventure lust, just plain lust, and everything else that my first post implies... just let me know... I can give you names places, etc. should you need them.
I am not sure where we are starting but I was thinking Ardis or Caliphas... Grim, do you have a preference?
Eric, I'm going to take your character, despite it making the group a little larger than originally intended. Since we don't currently seem to have either a skill monkey or a socially focused character, a bard could be fairly useful. So get a profile made, give me your reasons for being in dreary southern Ustalav, and you're in.
If you have a character in the game, then please, for the love of all that is holy, move to the discussion thread ;P
w00t! I have a flurry of questions though as this will be my first PbP game but I will take them to the discussion thread.
I am a total noob when it comes to PbP so I would need your guidance in what exactly would be needed but I have read several of the PbP threads and they intrigue me greatly. I used Hero Lab to create the character so please let me know if I have missed something. There character's name is P'Aye de T'Aime and here goes:
I always thought that my life's ambition was to become the Grand Harlot here in the temple of Calistra yet I have come to understand that will never happen. Mother has the legendary patience of the elves and father... well, who knows who he is for sure. I hear the other elven women in the temple speak of mother becoming one of the "Forlorn"... whatever that means. I asked them to explain that one day and they seem almost embarrassed that I heard them. They said it is her realization that I will die and she will have outlived her child. Sometimes, I think it would be better if I just left.
I have been schooled by the elders in the temple and have so many teachers. I have been schooled in what they call the "Soft Arts"... seduction, diplomacy, and love play. I have teachers in the "Hard Arts" as well... combat and self reliance. When I became of age, I was indoctrinated into the ways to the temple and the request for my talents brought a premium in donations from "the pious." I think they call themselves that because they are embarrassed. I am not ashamed of it and it's really quite flattering that men (or women for that matter) give me such control over them. Even the most majestic and powerful become so vulnerable and often ridiculous in my presence.
Often, when we have no pious travelers visiting the temple, I will amuse the sisters there with a song and I have been told that I have a beautiful singing voice... they say makes the world go away for a while. I do have a talent that thrills the sisters and makes me popular among the pious that no other in the temple has. I think I can honestly thank father for because it surely does not come from mother... magic. I use subtle tones in my voice and manner of speaking and people warm to me instantly no matter what I have said or done to them in the past. I first used it to put my visitors at ease but then learned that it did was not their reaction to my skills. I have gotten out of a few bad situations that way and eluded some punishments from the sisters for chores neglected even. Not only that, but I have the gift to become what people want to see. That is what makes me popular among the pious because, if they want lover to have red hair or less of a point to their ear, I can do that. I am the perfect whore... and I am miserable.
Why? Not because of who I am. Who I am is sacred gift from the goddess. Who I am gives me a power that kings of nations and the mightiest of heroes yield to. No, I am miserable because I have come to the realization that I will be bones and dust before anything happens. It takes a week to learn how to style my clothes in a particularly "elven" fashion and it took two years for them to teach me to understand the Varisian dialect. They once said they would teach me marksmanship "soon" and it turned out to be a year later for them to finally come around to it. I understand what the sisters once said about mother but I think it is I who have become forlorn. I realize that the sands of my life are running much faster than theirs and I will be dead and gone before some of the sisters that were born in the same year I was to even reach the same level of physical maturity that I have in my 25 years of life. Though it may break mother’s heart, it is time to strike out on my own and quicken my life.

Another issue has come up. there is no Glory/Death God (As of now I am using PF gods). I don't want to create one. So He has no god so what about a holy symbol? How would that work? Please help!
IMO, regardless of God/Domain preference, a cleric should have a "Divine Focus" of some sort (as required in many of the cleric's spells). Make it some other kind of focus, totem, or symbolic conduit through which his connection to the divine flows.
It'd be nice if familiars were treated as 'transcending spirits.' So that when you lost your familiar to death or took improved familiar that you'd regain lost spells and spell progression would continue as though you still had the familiar that you chose at first level.
Essentially the 'spirit' you 'bind' at first level would follow your character throughout her life. This would solve a lot of problems.
I don't know, I kind of like the flavor. I recall a book by Michael Moorcock where there was a great sorcerer in the book that could have been a useful ally but the bad guy had his cat (where he had stashed his soul). Granted, that's good for NPC's but PC's? I like the thought of being able to hold a familiar hostage and have it do more than just pop up when it's relevant or needed to deliver a touch spell. In classic literature, familiars had more of a bond than that.
Isn't the point of a "pet class" caster to have a physically imposing or threatening pet? What would be the point of a INT/WIS/CHA Eidelon if not spell casting? That seems to be an end run around the point of restricting the Summoner's spell list or spells per day.
