11T7 approaches the lock. It turns to Jorian "Requesting Guidance."

11T7 interfaces with the lock as only another clockwork can...
The gnome walks along the walls to join the group. It puts away its hat and takes out a wand of infernal healing. "Administering Aid" 11T7 uses two charges on itself and offers its services to the others. It tries to single-out voices as it listens to the whispering babble.
11T7 gathers the brass shavings into a neat and orderly pile away from the hole. After a while it begins trying to pull its edges in a bit. "3√2 > 4" It explains. It tries to reshape itself several ways with more determination and limited success. "Re-gnoming." 11T7 puts its hat on and instantly transforms back into the gnome with business attire.
11T7 carefully examines the room. It focuses on the brass plug. "Lever desired." It then gestures to the bottom "Notch here. Fulcrum there. Insert lever. Apply team."
11T7 walks up to the tower and begins walking up it without pausing.
The gnome removes its had and resumes being a modron. "Conclusion: The secrets found within ARE for those above but not for those below. Ascend Tower."
11T7 makes a metallic clinking sound as it claps its gnomish hands with joy. "Escalating difficulty!"
It casts Persistent Create Pit Fall Damage:
"Arrow misinstalled. Retraining advised." 11T7 turns to see its attackers "Undermining elf." and casts Create Pit.
"Translation: 'No. Leave now or we will force you away.'" 11T7 pushes its luck Elvish:
"Insufficient authority? Requesting superior." and quickly moves behind Tim.
11T7 quickly writes Elvish:
"Leader translation: 'We're not "from above."'" and then adds Elvish: "Forbidden reason? Authorization grantable?"
"Translation: Go away. This place is forbidden" reports 11T7 in Common. It continues to write. Elvish:
"Tower remains. Seeking explanation." and adds a smiley face.
The gnome looks from person to person as tensions rise. When the cat tries Truespeach and somehow doesn't get a reaction, the gnome's eyes go wide. It waves at the elf and writes in the dust. Elvish: "Defending tower?"
11T7 approaches the tower and scrapes at it to see if it makes the same kind of dust. Hearing Tim's address, it spins around to face the elf. "Accommodating Fey. Dispensing Hat." 11T7 pulls a shabby Gatsby hat from its Haversack. Upon putting it on, the modron instantly transforms into a gnome in business attire.
A centuries-old mechanical masterpiece of hexahedron clockwork and flesh bearing the serial number 11T7 dutifully marches behind Tim the Beautiful following him step for step. It wears a casual yet pragmatic shirt, robe, and slippers. Soft whirring emanates from the modron as it rolls back onto its arms to survey the tower. Its telescopic eyes quickly shift and refocus on each detail. One of 11T7's eyes swivels to watch Tim respond to Artemis's request. "Hierarchy approval assumed. Deploying Message." It casts Message on the party while still angled up at the tower to complete its observations. 11T7 turns to face Tim. "Authorization requested: assist other subordinates at will?" It cracks the slightest smile at the word 'subordinates.'
