I believe that it is still the case for Arcane Lock now that you must use Dispel Magic or Knock to get past it. The bonus to the DC of Disable Device is for the purpose of the Knock spell, since you need to make a check that beats the Disable Device DC of the lock... so basically casting Arcane Lock on an actual lock is a stronger defense than just casting it on something that does not have a lock.

So, I will admit that this question is largely prompted by the recent fiction contest announced by the Pathfinder Chronicler where stories have to be set in the Age of Destiny. The calendar dating of modern Golarion is Absalom Reckoning, but what about before the beginning of the Age of Enthronement when Absalom was founded? People would not have referred to their time period as "before Absalom" after all... I hazard a guess that it would be tied to Earthfall or the end of the Age of Darkness, but after scouring the Inner Sea World Guide and the wiki, I am still uncertain. Also, I would assume the months and days at least would be the same, as they are named after the gods? It doesn't hurt to make sure.

*Notices note being scribbled and smiles* Seriously though, I admit that I have a small pin collecting problem... the sample pin that I posted was one of many that I have. I know that I am not the only one. But yeah, if this does become a thing, the first thing that I will do after squealing with delight over my idea becoming reality is to probably spend a lot of money.

So, collector pins are huge in many fandoms (Disney comes to mind most easily), and yet I am surprised to see that Paizo has never put out any for Pathfinder. Under the accessories in the store, there is a pin section, but it is really just buttons instead of pins (some of them rather large, to be honest). Using one of the pins that I got from work, I give you a Sample Collector Pin Wouldn't it be awesome to have pins like this? Here are just a few ideas that my husband and I came up with that would make awesome collector pins: *Faction pins
These things aren't even that expensive. The Sam's Club pin that I posted as an example cost like $3.99 I think, and that was because it was a small batch order. I know the company we use is called Hogeye, though I am sure Paizo could find any number of companies to make them for affordable prices. So yeah, what do you guys think? Would this be something you would like to see offered by Paizo?

We are screwed. No one can beat that! Okay, serious question for you James. With how much Cheliax loves their titles and hierarchies, what would the various rankings be within a place like the Imperial Ministry of Historical Accuracy?

Ok, I officially feel silly for asking this, but whatever. Last night a situation came up where a character under the effect of Prayer (+1 luck bonus to attacks, damage, saves, and skills) scored a critical hit... and I was not sure if bonus damage from luck multiplied or not. I do not think it does, since it isn't a "usual bonus"... but it is also not a dice roll. I've heard of similar talks regarding the Bard's song bonus to damage, some let it multiply, others don't. So what I am wondering is what is the official stance, if any, on how all these bonus types work in a critical hit situation? If some multiply and others don't, which ones? Thanks.

See, this is the weird thing for me... I started on 3.0/3.5 and played the entire run of those editions and I have never had problems like that. Most of the time my reaction is "OMG, they made it better!" There are a few things now and then that are similar enough to the old rules that lead me to miss the subtle changes (I think the wording for Endurance was one of those)... but for the most part it isn't that bad. Total off topic moment done now. On topic, thanks for explaining the rules for regional languages, I was kinda lost on the whole thing myself.

So, James, an interesting question for you that one of my players in Runelords asked: what, if anything, do you think would happen if you added the Waters of Lamashtu to the minor runewell in the Catacombs of Wrath? I would assume nothing, but the sadistic side of me has some fun ideas involving four-armed sinspawn.

Dear James Jacobs, I was considering printing out some of the maps in the RotR AP and blowing them up large enough to use miniatures on for our fights (since some of the proportions are rather difficult to draw), or at the very least printing out the maps of Sandpoint and Magnimar. Is this allowed under either OGL or Community Use Policy? The place I plan to go for printing is really strict about copyright laws so I want to make sure I would not be in violation.

Random question... the class kits in Ultimate Equipment... the weights don't add up for the Alchemist kit (haven't done the math for the rest yet)... was this done on purpose or is a a typo? Also, is it wrong that a cackled with glee when the Rune Giant arrived and I set it next to one of my player's miniatures?

JJ, One of my players wants to use the broad arrow from Mongoose Publishing, which increases arrow damage by one die-type while only decreasing range by 10 feet... I find this rather broken since as far as I can tell, only weapons modify damage by die-type, not ammo. Am I being too inflexible as a GM or should I stick to my guns? Is it possible to make this not broken by either reducing the range further, adding a penalty on attacks, or both?

If it makes you husbands feel better, I am in one of those "how to convince my fiance this is a good purchase" frames of mind... along with "how to restrain myself from making this purchase" ... it can be very hazardous to a household budget to have both members of the couple be avid gamers. ... ... would it be wrong to use excess financial aid money for this?

Sniggevert wrote: Sorry if that came across as attitude. I was just trying to say, don't worry about your Amazon order. I'm sure it will ship shortly after street date, as that is their normal MO. Ah, ok, I am sorry for taking it the wrong way. Hopefully you are right. I mean, I really don't mind waiting a bit since the minis won't be released until August anyway... and I am apparently forbidden from starting until the minis have arrived. And the PDF with the handouts is a very nice addition, I must say. Bravo, Paizo, bravo. Considering I get the PDF as well if I preorder here, I am canceling my Amazon preorder.

So, I got a response from Amazon... "I apologize for the unexpected delay of your order. I have researched the availability of "Pathfinder Adventure Path: Rise of the Runelords Anniversary Edition" and learned that its release has been delayed until January 8, 2013." o_O ...preorder hardcovers from here will ship on July 18th, yes? I have two groups that have been waiting for this game for months!

I have to second powerdemon's comment... there are a lot of us who don't have a whole lot of money but still want to support the game. I preordered this in Feb when I first learned of it, and yeah, I went to Amazon because I needed the savings (that $22 I am saving buys me food for a week). The kind of attitude TwoWolves displayed towards paying customers (because Paizo still gets their money) is not something that should be promoted here... no one who pays their money for a hard-earned product "deserves" to be jerked around. Period. I sent a message to Amazon to demonstrate my satisfaction. Like others said, a month is one thing (and I'm used to it), but six months or more? Unacceptable!

So, question: Since the regional languages do not appear on anyone's list of bonus languages (except for those that say "Any") does that mean that the non-human races actually have to spend ranks in Linguistics to learn things like Osiriani or Varisian even if they were born and raised there? I know that a lot of GMs just let you do it, but this is PFS, so I have to make sure.

So, I know that as it stands right now only the races from the Core Book are playable in Society games, but when the Dragon Empires Gazetteer comes out it will be listing Tengus, Kitsune and other races as "core playable races"... so will this have an effect on Society play?

Thank you, James! You're awesome! The artwork in Inner Sea World Guide looks like it is navigable but there are chunks of ice in it and a lot of the shore of the lake is frozen (which makes sense). In the Whitethrone write-up in Cities of Golarion though, what it does show of the lake is completely frozen save for around the Palace.

So back on the subject of Flurry of Maneuvers... Flurry of Maneuvers wrote: The maneuver master uses his monk level in place of his base attack bonus to determine his CMB for the bonus maneuvers, though all combat maneuver checks suffer a –2 penalty when using a flurry. At 8th level, a maneuver master may attempt a second additional combat maneuver, with an additional –3 penalty on combat maneuver checks. At 15th level, a maneuver master may attempt a third additional combat maneuver, with an additional –7 penalty on combat maneuver checks. This ability replaces flurry of blows. So does this mean it goes -2, -5, -12 or -2, -5, -9? The math either way seems very strange compared to the way Flurry of Blows and TWF works. Could we get an official clarification on this?

Honestly, coming from a multiracial family, I don't see why everyone was so outraged at the original title. One look at the cover tells you what the book is, and unless you have some REALLY overly-PC relatives no one is going to call you a racist (well, unless you are one... then that is just par for the course). No matter what the title is (and I am curious about what the new name will be), this book sounds awesome! Ever since the Tiefling write-up in Council of Thieves I have been waiting for more on the Aasimar and I am hoping that is one of the things included here. Please? |
