Hi all. Just wondering what we can do to move things along. We started asking and doing things, and we seem to hit dead end after dead end. At some time, we need to be led to something important as we're going places and doing things, but nothing is happening.

Perhaps if we hit a dead end, you can naturally move us to the next incident, so we don't spend weeks moving from one person to another trying to do something.

I'm enjoying the game and the characters, but we seem to be spinning our wheels and going nowhere.

I'm open on what we can do as players to advance the plot???

"Where is everybody else? Should we go out and find them"?

I Darcy is given the direction she heads that way.

Not sure what time of the day it is. If it's late Darcy will wait till the lights go out, and then sneak in and look for her purse. If it's earlier, she'll go back to temple to see what the others have uncovered. She thinks it would be easier to get her purse back now, then waiting for the authorities to arrive... administrative fees and all you know!

Darcy finds a good spot to watch the activity around the house for a bit.

Female; Saves; F-+3, R-+6, W +0 (+2 vs. Fear) Halfling / Scribe Rogue/ 1; HP 10/10; AC 16/14/13 MOVE 20': PP 17

Darcy slips from her observation post and makes to discreetly follow the deputy.

She stops to whisper to Calhoun. If you can be quite as a church mouse you can follow me... though you might want to stay back a bit. Otherwise just meet me back at the church, and we can see what the others are up to.

"Okay Deputy. Thank you for your time. I'll be sure and tell all the orphans that they are hungry due to the law". She says this loudly enough for anyone else to hear.

Darcy will keep a close eye on him from somewhere else in the tavern for a bit to see if he pulls forth her purse to pay.

Might have to break into his home tonight and take what's rightfully mine. I believe the others should have killed this one as well.

In fact, I found out that one of them pilfered my coin purse sometime before they committed their heinous acts. What is my recourse for getting it back. It had a substantial amount of coin that was destined for good charity works".

"Hey! Calm Down. I'm a victim here. One of those murderous goons stole my purse before they went on their killing spree... and I just want to get it back. It's certainly not going to be of use where they're going".

Darcy goes on to describe the purse she gave away in protest of the murder plan.

She then begins to gather her things.

"Preferably someone with a pleasant manner, as everybody I've tried to speak with has been a real pain in the ass, and not very friendly... though I'll admit I can be a little abrasive at times".

I'd like to keep going... but the problem is we've switched game systems a couple of times, lost characters, and quite frankly need a little nudging on what to do. Darcy tried to push things along a bit but seemed to be derailing the story, so she backed off.

It's probably very obvious what we need to do next... but for some reason we're not finding it. It's frustrating to want to move forward, but not really have an idea of how to do so.

Female; Saves; F-+3, R-+6, W +0 (+2 vs. Fear) Halfling / Scribe Rogue/ 1; HP 10/10; AC 16/14/13 MOVE 20': PP 17

Darcy is bored to tears by the indecision and would jump at the chance to go elsewhere... and do anything. I believe we talked early on about moving the stone, and it was determined it wasn't possible without something beyond brute strength. Anybody else recall?

Female; Saves; F-+3, R-+6, W +0 (+2 vs. Fear) Halfling / Scribe Rogue/ 1; HP 10/10; AC 16/14/13 MOVE 20': PP 17

Darcy drifts outside and finds the father watering a small patch of tulips outside the temple's door.

"Morning! We were able to read the tablet finally... but it only raised more questions. I know you said you don't know the origin of the tablet... but we've got to figure out where it came from. It's vital. If you really don't know how we can track where it came from can you recommend someone else we can talk to? Perhaps someone more familiar with the history of this area? Or even some church records we could search for more information".

Darcy gladly accepts the ale and wine brought by these new arrivals with a nod of thanks. She finishes up the dredges of whatever anyone else left in their cups as well before sleeping a guilt free sleep.

She then watches the new arrivals play with the tablet as well hoping either they notice something they've missed or the vinegar works.

"Let's hope this works. I've got to go to the makeshift jail and see if I can claim my stolen coin back before it disappears into the town coffers, or they execute those murderers".

I gotta remember to accuse that Arwulf guy of stealing my inheritance and see if I can get my gold back. He won't need it where he's bound.

Darcy smiles and spits in her hand before holding it out to the orc blooded new arrival.

"Pleased to meet you Talcum. I'm Darcy. What the heck are you doing here"?

She then turns to Dragomir... "Well if he doesn't want an ale, perhaps you could bring me two"?

"Thanks for your help, lady. I'm sure the father will give you an extra prayer tonight. Tis nice to meet such pleasant people".

Darcy departs with a quick bow, concealing her vulgar hand gestures in the darkness as she departs.

She is a bit taken aback at Calhoun's seemingly glad response to her arrival, and happily hands over the vinegar to him.

"Has indeed been a spicy day. Probably need a drink or three to relax enough to sleep. Wouldn't happen to have a few spare coins would you? Seems I foolishly gave mine away earlier".

She then winks and slaps him on the rear.

"Never was much good at keeping coins dangling around".

She then looks past the woman.

"Boy! That food smells good. What are you having? Is it always this exciting in Grimmsgate. I've been in town one day and the Sheriff was attacked, and some bad characters locked up. I expected a quite little off the beaten path town".

Sorry about the inactivity. Been a crazy first part of the week.

Darcy circles the house looking for any outbuildings or other entrances. She then decides to just knock on the door and offer to pay for some vinegar... then she realizes that she gave her coin purse away in a fit of anger, and now has no money... Plan B.

BTW I was talking about me as a player taking 10-minutes to go back and find the in-game post not Darcy. Sorry for the mix-up.

I got it. And this is the last I'll comment about this. Keeping Player and character knowledge is important to me, and I'll try not to use player knowledge to take actions in character. At the same time in this instance the character had knowledge that wasn't readily available to the Player in my opinion. But like you said it's your game, so I'll play it your way.

I hope you're not seeing this as an adversarial post. I'm not upset in any way, but sometimes the written word doesn't evoke the intended emotion. I think that our shared passion for the game will only enrich the experience once we get on the same page. :-)

I took the extra 10-minutes to go back and find who had the vinegar. Don't understand what the big deal is... but Okay. I'll make sure to go back through the old posts before posting.

Jaline is the one usually pickling and selling them - maybe she has a bigger quantity? She is the wife of Cark Withers - he maintains the chickenhouses

And... I believe Darcy has done as much as anyone to try to move things along.

Darcy stares at Calhoun with mouth agape.

"Do I have to do everything? You've been here just staring at this thing while I've been out trying to figure out what was going on... oh never mind. I'll go get the vinegar".

Darcy heads out to retrieve some vinegar (Don't remember exactly where it was, but I'm sure Darcy does). On her way she almost runs over... or gets run over by some slack jawed village idiot.

"Hey look where you're going you dolt".

Upon her return to the temple she agrees that opening the tavern would be a grand idea.

Darcy quickly gets bored walking around the makeshift prison, so rejoins her remaining companions in working on trying to decipher the runes on the tablet.

"They're probably going to get hung. No easy way to break them out without putting my on tookas in a bind, so too bad... bad decisions and all. Never thought murdering the towns authority figure when you arrive was a competent strategy... but I'll add it to my options".

Darcy seems neither sad nor angry about her doomed party members. She has learned to value only her life as she isn't responsible for the decisions of others.

"Did we get some vinegar? Were we able to uncover more of the runes"?

Understood and acknowledged Darcy. But do you feel like a point buy system is less flexible than one completely based on random rolls?

I am just trying to find the best balance for us, since I distinctly remember 'someone', after having rolled 3d6 six times, saying that three negative modifiers was a pain in the ass ;)

Yes. I said that converting from Old School to Pathfinder, as the low ability scores have a major effect in a system that uses ability scores in skill checks. I didn't necessarily love the negative modifiers with Darcy's original character... but it was playable as the ability scores don't have as much effect on the mechanics of the game. I've been playing Darcy with low WIS, and CHA... and now they're not as low due to mechanics. Her DIPLOMACY is now -1 not just play a bad Diplomacy.

I'll open the character in Hero Lab tonight and try to adjust things. I think the (1) odd point messes me up as I have to raise an ability score more than I want to... but I'll look and see.

She then attempts to walk inside like she is supposed to to get an idea of the layout inside the building. If she gets that far she runs to the cell screaming in fake rage. "Miscreants, troublemakers, I hope you get what you deserve".

Darcy finishes her snack watching the beating with indifference. In fact, she picks up a small rock and tosses at one of her companions feeling the anger of the crowd.

She then sneaks up behind Lewill and tugs on his clothing to let him know she's there.

"Boy for a smart guy you don't have very good plans. First of all, she wouldn't even talk to us the first time we went. Now her husband and the father of her children has earned a well-deserved I'm sure fate, and that Sly guy just blamed her for hiring him to kill the Sherriff. Let's go do what we came here to do and worry about breaking these misfits out after that".

Darcy might not be wise or likable... but she is kinda smart.

I guess with the low ability scores Darcy has I don't see any advantage to switching to PF1. She's already playing her low ability scores... but now it seems they'll be a mechanical penalty involved with them. Many skills are tied to CHA and WIS which basically turn her into either ineffective or a one-trick pony.

WIS 5 - Same as a Giant Maggot - Incapable of planning (Which she is doing now... but her perception score, will saves etc will not be mechanically enforced).

CHA 6 - Same as a Troll - Uninteresting, rude, boorish, and generally unpleasant to be around.

I don't think it's too bad to have to replay one bad ability score but not being able to sense what people are really up to, resist their attempts to influence her, talk to people, scare people, or lie to them will be challenging to say the least.

As I said I like this group and the setting, and think it's been fun so far... I just hope assigning die rolls to her challenging stats don't ruin the feeling. I guess part of that is also we decided to go with a "Rules Light" game and are now transitioning into one that is so swollen with options that I've given up on it in real life. :-). One extreme to another. I don't see any problems with the way we've been playing.

As far as the current situation. If Darcy were capable of planning anything she'd suggest they spend the next day trying to figure out what they originally came for before... "Squirrel"... then perhaps under the cover of night break their more... well... impatient companions out and run somewhere else... perhaps to where they are supposed to go.

Happy New years to all. Hopefully the characters will still be around long enough to enjoy the adventure. :-)

As far as PF1... My first inclination is to decline as having two terrible stats in a game that uses skills is not fun... particularly as they are in two important interaction areas. I also got turned off on PF1 due to the ridiculous number of options available and the ability to unbalance things easily. I found that PF1 encouraged building one-trick ponies which is why I love PF2 as it encourages balanced characters and parties. In fact I've been fighting to get the others in my longest campaign on these boards. (Hi BD). to switch first to 5E then to PF2 without much success.

However,... I like all the players in this game and if it the consensus I'll give it a try.

I will be out of town through the 27th as well. Might have time to check... might not. Don't let me hold things up.
