Life detection enables a Traveller to sense the presence of other minds, the number of other minds present, the general type of minds (animal, human. etc.) and their approximate location. Life Detection is reasonably sophisticated, and can distinguish intelligent beings from bacteria or unimportant animals in the area. It functions best in detecting intelligent minds. Daneel takes a backpack from Jhoolz and loops it over one shoulder. "We should definitely get away from here. After a couple of hours we can check and see if it's clear, then come back and bury the dead." He moves to the more likely exit - either the hatch or the hole in the wall - and takes a look outside.

Daneel's fingers fly over his console as he introduces little glitches into the system that could signify a failing compressor. When he is satisfied with his work, he turns to the command console, "So what's the play, Captain? Ambush them when they get close?"

Daneel waits for the captain to speak, then says, "Even if he tells the truth, unless his proof shows that Darokyn was responsible for the attacks at Torpal and Clarke, I don't see why we care. We don't have any grudge against Darokyn. In fact, gaining the good graces of one of the powers on Theev will probably be very useful." After a moment, he ads, "As for Darokyn being tied to the Imperium...well, we can look into that and make use of it later down the line."

Daneel pulls up the grainy video he downloaded on Blue. As the image of the raid at Torpol plays, he points at the larger of the two attacking vessels. "That's Mercifuge. Which means the ship hiding out in this gas giant is probably the far trader." He points at the smaller attacker. "She's armed to the teeth, but she's definitely in our weight class."

I don't think Daneel got access to anything that would tell me Mercifuge's capabilities, but maybe seeing the ship would have been enough for an engineer/mechanic to tell if she was capable of scooping fuel from an atmosphere? If not, what Daneel did access was "where Mercifuge has been ever since the ship was stolen from Admiral Darrokyn". So he might be able to tell where she did fuel up, if not where she could fuel up.

Daneel blushes at how easily Jhoolz is able to put him in an awkward position - he wasn't expecting to be assaulted, though. Voice half muffled by the bulkhead, he says, "If you can give me some pointers, that would be great. I've actually been working on hand to hand with the marines - Misty says I'm hopeless though." Once Jhoolz releases him, he continues, "I'm happy to help you with your computer skills. Where do you want to start?"

Maybe we should stake the place out - see who comes and goes?" He turns to see what Jhoolz thinks, only to see her walking away, towards Mercifuge. He looks around, then hurries after her.
