December 26th Update

If you wish to continue on this thread, this is my written consent to transfer DM ownership should you wish to.

Good luck guys, glad to see you found someone to pick up the game.

December 26th Update

Not sure how to transfer games. Am willing to, though I think a site admin has to

December 26th Update

I took some time to think on it and come to a conclusion.

I've decided that given my recent technological setbacks and increase in IRL responsibilities, I'm going to be withdrawing from the Paizo site as a source of PbP posting. I've had a lot fun here, and learned a lot as well, but I can't create time and energy to update as often as I feel would be fair. It's a new semester, one of my last couple, and I don't the work is going to slow down.

Thanks for everything till now, and sorry for having to drop out with little notice. If you can find a GM to take over, that's fine by me, and as always I hope you all have as much fun as I have had on these boards.

December 26th Update

With the holidays ending soon-ish for me, I wanted to get a quick interest poll from the players here. What I thought would be manageable campaign online may have been too ambitious for PbP especially with my irl commitments.

So.....are folks still interested in continuing, or would it be better for everyone that we shutter the game so people aren't getting anxious about it?

December 26th Update

Sounds alright to me.

December 26th Update

And so book 1 comes to a close.

The party, Saul having slipped through their fingers, search for where he could have gone. The only clue remaining being a strange trapdoor located in the sands of the makeshift arena in the depths of the Gold Goblin.

Still, having driven Saul off and with the thugs rounded up or chased off, its easy enough to put the establishment under new management. After all, you have the deed. The excitement of the fight and raid of the Gold Goblin, rather than scare off customers, seems to draw them in. Such noble and powerful protectors are a welcome sight to the run down and threatening gambling houses that litter the Riddleport markets.

Silvio is seen as a fair prosecutor and arbiter of the laws that protect the civilians, and not a day goes by where some party or another comes to him for advice or wisdom. Orendel still is haunted by his past, the ghosts clawing at his back. But against the warm light and raucous crowd enjoying the Gold Goblin, its easier to let the past lay still. Cherry is a hit as always, the flirtatious tiefling working his charm and business into the hearts of every patron the comes through those doors. Her smile has lifted many a sad spirit, and her gentle encouragement has saved many a citizen from their own folly. Dougal begins the long process of learning more of his gift, splitting his time between the business and the temple. He grasps a small portion of it, what little he can so far control, but with each week comes more progress. Word goes around the town of a kind young man, curing headaches and hangovers, or helping an ailing child with warm light and glow.

Riddleport may not be the kindest of places, but its home. Their home. And they'll be damned if anyone try to take it from them.

December 26th Update

I don't mind if you all would like to stay together and find another GM. Not sure how the transfer process would work, or if you'd just start a new campaign thread, but I'd be glad to see folks who enjoy playing together continue to do so. And thank you for your understanding.

December 26th Update

Yeah, the bottles are healing potions. I thought I'd give that one to you.

Opening each of the doors in turn, you find masses of mold and fungus, as well as what appear to be bodies mottled in what appear to be the beginnings of small vegepygmies. (specifically in room C6d and C6b respectively).

December 26th Update

For those who like the Masks system, Drivethrurpg is having a bundle deal where you get the corebook and the three supplement books for around $15.

December 26th Update

Good to have you back.

Donovan, seeing no signs of danger, may be puzzled as the others leave the diner and make their way to the car. A quick discussion later and the gang plans to meet up, in one way or another, at the hospital.

So, each of you has prep time for roughly thirty minutes to an hour, which can be used for info hunting, combat prep, or personal reasons. Regardless, please post that you're ready when you're ready to go.

December 26th Update

Given the nature of his ability, for now I'll say no unless Luke states that he wasn't trying to hide the use of his ability from the rest of you.

December 26th Update

This is where Book 1 ends, and given my decreasing ability to post reliably, this is also where I'm closing this game. Thanks for sticking it out with me this far, and apologies I seemed to run out of steam near the end there.

I'll be writing an epilogue post, so if there's anything you want for your characters, post her eto let me know.

December 26th Update

With the dogs dispatched, and the party patching themselves up, you move onto the last room in the basement. In a large sandpit arena, you look and find....nothing. You scour the room, and don't find anything.

December 26th Update

Silver Shadow, examining things isn't too hard to require a roll, and given your Holmesian deduction, even such examinations in the middle of battle aren't too hard for you. In which case, I'll disregard your second roll.

Juskar starts swinging his club made of energy, literally bowling over mobs in a single swing, wrecking them in waves as they start to swarm nearby.

The Silver Shadow descends onto the crowd of enemies and while a non-lethal/ light touch is usually preferred before the masses, sometimes you just need results. You can't even imagine what the crowds behind you are seeing as blood, bolts, and viscera begin spraying around you. No time for that, you need to focus on assessing the enemy as best you can. The world almost fades into shades of grey as you begin accumulating data. You throw your knife into the gut of a goblin, and its blood spews across your face. They bleed. Your fist cracks the ribs of another, and it sputters back. They feel pain. You grab the arm of a robot and twist it, feeling the crack of its metallic arms. Fragile. A quick kick to its spine renders it immobile, and soon its dissolves into nothing. You glance at your knife clattering to the ground, and the crushed chest goblin dissolving away as well.

All the data points to these creatures having an actual existence until the point of "death" in which case they disperse.

A play on the corkscrew maneuver, Wingblade crashes through the window with the force of bullet rather than the spiral. You look up and see rows upon rows of robots sitting at desks, each model wearing glasses, the chassis painted to seem as if they were wearing button up shirts and slacks. They were typing, and all immediately stop and look at you. Even the robots at the oil cooler stop their chatting as they stare at the sudden intruder.

Then they all begin to panic, running around the room in a terror.

No one's chimed in to help Bran, though given the scene you're all spread pretty thin.
Bran begins to make decent progress, his powerful might mighty weapon sweeping through swathes of the enemy. But the enemies still pour out, and for the moment you're being swept away
Shift Mundane up, and Superior down

December 26th Update

The bodies seem to be definitely killed by russet mold, and from their clothing, they were Brigh worshippers, indicated by the silver symbols that hang around each of their necks. Further investigation (and through very careful and time consuming sifting of the bodies without exposing yourselves too much reveal that each has a masterwork light hammer, masterwork chainmail that hasn't been ruined yet, and the leader has a ring that detects as magical, as well as three fungus encrusted bottles of familiar murky red liquid. There is also about 22 gp pieces with flecks of mold here and there.

December 26th Update

Happy New Years!

Luke, you reach out to feel your hand wrap around. That familiar itch, that ecstasy of grasping something that doesn't belong to you, it surges into your hand before you realize you're tightening your grasp.

The moment passes, and you look down to a bundle of ratty, dirty dollars and a usb drive.

I'll try to update again tomorrow to move onto the hospital scene, but react as you may.

December 26th Update

And with some solid blows from Cherry, Silvio, and Orendel, the frothing dogs are put down. The angry growls are silenced, and only their warm blood on your blades (and book) seem to indicate they were once alive.

December 26th Update

Holidays are here, so no worries if you're getting busy. I certainly am!

Bran is able to shrug off the blast, successfully defending his ally in the process. Wingblade uses the metallic sheen of her wings to refract the lasers right back at the skyscraper building. It seems to hit and even crack one of its reinforced glass windows. At the other end of the park, Skuld launches herself into the courtyard of the castle, though not having broken into the castle proper. Small green goblins surround you, and unlike the ones ravaging the streets earlier, these ones seem tougher, bigger, and well armed with weapons of metal that actually had an edge. At your intrusion, they charge!

December 26th Update

It'll take a while but sure.

It takes the better part of thirty minutes, but after getting stymied by the lock a few times, eventually the mechanisms give way to the picks and the door clicks to an unlocked state.

Even with your lingering presence at the entrance and the audible click of the unlocking of the door, not even shadows shift on the inside of the shop

December 26th Update

Dirissa, you do detect magic coming from the bodies, and as Keldor carefully manipulates the Mage Hand to shift through the bodies, it is obvious that these men still have their possessions on them. While they are fungus encrusted, it doesn't seem like the fungus spews airborne when disturbed, and indeed the acid charing seemed to have harmed the mold greatly. You even spy a few bottles of a familiar restorative shape on one of the bodies as well.

December 26th Update

Yeah, go for an Expertise in magic to examine the actual magical energies or investigation for the contraption in general.

December 26th Update

Yeah, same man. Always expect to have more free time than I really do during break.

December 26th Update

"Of course, of course." Samuel agrees. "Glad to finally meet you. I mean it, it's been great!"

Samuel is all smiles, and as he leaves the diner, your group catches notice of the other patrons. It seems no one is eating, and even the waitstaff had paused to watch something playing out on the small television mounted in the corner behind the register. From this far, you can tell that the image of a hospital is on screen as a reporter stands in front of a line of cop cars, police tape, and officers pushing people away from the perimeter. The waitress picks up the remote and turns up the muted volume.

-situation is still continuing. Officers have cleared the immediate area, but it seems there is a large number of patients and staff still within the building. Further reports are coming in that some kind of green gas has been released, blocking any law enforcement from entering until the CDC arrive on scene. What victims have been recovered with only minor exposure have been reported to be hallucinating wildly, putting them in an almost dangerous state."

The reporter takes a pause as someone comes on screen and whispers something into her ear.

"I've just received word that Miss Wilma Wicket, President of Wicked Cosmetics, was about to undergo surgery for a brain tumor when this terrorist attack began. There is no word of her condition, but we can only pray that the situation will end peacefully and quickly."

December 26th Update

Harg scans the room and almost immediately takes a step back as he spots a plant that doesn't seem as complacent as your normal molds and tufts of greenery. It seems to writhe as soon as Keldor starts spraying down the walls.

Beneath the ivy-like plant that seems almost like a venus fly trap lies what seems to be decayed bodies, each with a healthy growth of spores.

But with Harg's warning, its easy enough to outpace the crawling plant as it whips its tendrils in your direction, and the party easily dispatches the creature.

The bodies are still there, a hefty growth of mold on each of them.

December 26th Update

Okay. Due to Bran's quick actions, I'll shift who takes the powerful blow from Apex to Bran, as a consequence of Bran not having enough time to properly defend himself as he covers for Apex.

December 26th Update

Quinlan answers the phone, which is good, but she does not sound happy.

"Shadow, I do not have time for this right now. There's an invasion going on, or goblins and androids decided our city was going to be their grudge grounds. To top it all off, I think part of the city is fighting back, which is good, but we got some crazies who are firing guns like its new years and someone's going to get hurt."

You hear three distinct gunshots, as Quinlin stops talking for a moment, You can hear the rustle of her jacket as she presses the phone against her shoulder, reloading her sidearm.

[b"But something tells me you know what's going on, huh? Always in the middle of the mess, aren't you? The kids are in protective custody, along with their parents. As far as they no, something is happening, but they have no idea what. And yeah, I checked, neither of them are playing games of any sort. As for Haxor, you read the file. He hasn't been seen since his dead bluff. If he's behind this, I'd be surprised."[/b]

Juskar, its like you're a line bad consequences and the dominoes will not stop falling. You manage to warp the energy in the right way, but when you go to shoot the created slingshot, you put to much force behind it. It gets the targets all right, but it slams into the side of the building next to them, the entrance to a series of apartment complexes. The grinding crunch of metal is so familiar you feel your throat jumping up as your chest tightens in stress.

Skuld, while not familiar with games, you understand the basics of war. And if the chatter of the coms was anything to indicate, you imagine the best way to end this quickly is to destroy one side until the other proves victorious. As for who's winning currently? It's hard to tell, and something tells you trying to break through the castle walls is gonna be a tough job.

Apex, you're trying your best to get to the castle, even using the combatants in the streets as springboards. You didn't expect for such destructive machines to be so....flimsy. Your foot lands hard on a robot which immediately crumples under you. You get your balance back by rolling, but the robots around you are already bearing down on your position. And then their warning lights start to flash read... Your mind races as you look around for any kind of advantage, any kind of edge to get you out of this situation. And what you see shocks you as a survivor, and as someone who has always been able to scrap their way out of a problem.

You don't see any way out of this.

Take a powerful blow as you brace yourself for the impending explosion.

Both the skyscraper and castle seem to be churning out their respective drones. A few moments pass and the skyscraper somehow spawns two helicopters, but each is equipped with weaponry. The castle, in turn, starts to spawn two catapults, and almost immediately two large flaming boulders are flung at the skyscraper. One hits and visible damage is shown and the remnants of the boulder fall to the abandoned park below, but the other hurtles past the skyscraper into the city proper.

December 26th Update

Finals over, finished moving back to home for the holidays, and I'm all for an in-universe secret santa.

December 26th Update

As Lia, Median, and Irian all bunch up near the window, they see no one tending the store. Even the lanterns normally lit during evening hours are snuffed out. There also appears to be, among the candles of various shades and sizes, a beautifully sculpted figure of a man, that stands against the wall carved as if from stone and not wax.

But there are no living individuals, and as you try the door, you feel the regular locking mechanism refuse you entry.

December 26th Update

They are dogs, though the models may look ratty

Another series of attacks, and Orendel and Silvio are able to put down some of the savage mutts. Cherry tries to get in another deadly shot, but to no avail. The dogs in turn, lash out though any hope at taking down the party is beyond them.

Attack Orendel: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13 Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Attack Silvio: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

December 26th Update

The stench of mold and decay fills this open, dark chamber, no doubt created by the thick blanket of fungal matter coating the floor. Several chairs sit before work tables containing unusual tools and equipment, while a row of doors line the curved southern wall.

At a cursory look, in this darkened room, you don't notice much.

Finals over and back home for the holidays.

December 26th Update

Allie, you could try teleporting through it, taking a look using your expertise in magic, or even try forcing your way through.

December 26th Update

Samuel shrugs.

"I mean, safety in numbers yeah? There was always talk that they might be a thing, but they were definitely loyal to each other, no mistake."

He goes on to describe Copper, who got her nickname from working with recycled metals and her brownish locks of hair, and this matches up with the description of who Donovan spoke with earlier.

Samuel coughs, and looks between the odd mix of people asking him questions and paying for his meal. He orders a banana cream pie and another cup of coffee, already getting some sugar packets ready.

Any other quesitons for Samuel?

December 26th Update

Harg, you don't pick up on anymore plants that want to kill you in this room. The air is rather humid, and you can feel sweat begin to bead on your forehead given the drastic change from the somewhat climate controlled rest of the ship.

Where to now?

December 26th Update

Kestral, you take a closer look at the barrier. It's defintely one that gives solidity, but you feel there's an extra feature here should someone without proper clearance be trying to break through. It strikes you ironic, as your eyes glance over what appears to be symbology of sorts that line the threshold of the stairwell. In the building meant to expand the learning of mad science and super tech, an arcane barrier is employed to guard levels of access.

December 26th Update

I think the slow pace has finally took its toll. Other than Median and Irian, no one else has posted in a month or so.

December 26th Update

Bran, you do find a trail of something, a just the faintest threads of the energy whiffing in one particular direction. You start to head off, hitting a few more gobs along the way, re-affirming what you're starting to discern, that everything is leading to Halycon Central Park, a well kept grassy area in the middle of the busy commerce section of the city.

Wingblade, you foist the makeshift weapons on the populace. A dude bro looks awestruck and seems to be torn between thanking you for the help or asking for your number. A grandmother you handed the first piece to has already started smacking at one of the gobs who's gotten close. Soon, one by one, the word starts to get out from the people you're helping, and the people in this section seem to be fighting back.

Juskar you wince, as your pink shell around the robot, does shatter and scatters to the surrounding area. Extremely sharp pieces seem to almost eviscerate the surrounding area.
Making a soft move here Jusker. I want you to remember a time where Juskar tried to use his power, and there was a lot of collateral damage.

Juskar, shaking yourself after that memory leaps up from the depths of your mind, you look around trying to figure out the best way to clean up a lot of enemy at once. You need something fast and with force, and it occurs to you that a lot of these things are in the middle of road, and there are a lot of abandoned cars around, some with or without keys in the ignition.

You can get cute, I just need to know what the move is in the end.
Silver Shadow makes some deductions, but given your abilites is being very good with thinking, you do have a hunch that it might be more than a cursed deck or a child being a mage of sorts.

Apex, you almost get dogpiled on, but as someone quicker, stronger, and bigger, you find enough rhythm to keep them off you and onto each other. But its work, and you're holding them back well enough to keep the general chaos from reaching the pumps. A wave of pedestrian wielding kitchen knives, baseball bats, and golf clubs seem to be fighting their way towards your general direction, and you see that one spots you and starts yelling at the others, pointing in your direction as you continue to throw the gobs back away from the pumps.

Thor Girl you descend and land next to Apex as the pedestrians arrive, small bits of green staining shirts, shoes, and parts of the pavement. You only time to catch up on the situation, before you spot something new in the distance.

A large castle made of dark stone, goblin heads carved into the walls, and lava pouring out of them appears in the park. On the other side, what could only be a skyscraper with helipads and turrets seem to form out of nowhere as well.

information only characters who play video games on mobile would know:

There's no mistaking it. This is a carbon copy of a popular tower defense game that's been #1 topselling for the last few months. The Goblin King and Zer0 are both popular characters to select. The objective of the game is to defeat your opponents base, but unless you're a regular player, you don't know what they're special abilities are.

December 26th Update

Cherry and Syeira take a double turn this round.

Orendel tries to fight back as he manages to avoid most of the damage being clawed at him, and thanks to the healing support, he manages to find the strength to keep standing and fight on.

But the animals are hungry and continue their vicious assault.

Attack Orendel: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Attack Orendel: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10 Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Attack Orendel: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15 Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

December 26th Update

So, just to be transparent, following the AP as a guide, given the circumstance, technically the first book would end here. There is actual more to the book, but given the circumstances, it is instructed that you have swept through the Gold Goblin and not found Saul.

That being said, I know I have been abysmal at maintaining a steady pace. I've decided to end the to end this game at the end of the first book in hopes that if you wish to continue, you can find a better DM who can pick up easily where I've gotten you to.

December 26th Update

Entering the building, you ready yourselves for the strangest sense of sliding and readjusting, but you become slightly puzzled as you feel as if you were on the normal ground. Odd. It seems the stairwell leading to the upper floors has some kind of gate of sorts, and tentatively Muki reaches out and is stopped by some kind of barrier. He looks to you, shrugging.

December 26th Update

Sorry about the delay, on the bright side, hard work does pay off

Sidenote, did my last update not go through? Thought I had done so...

Though the vegetation gets the drop on the party, a reaction speed that could only be wielded from experience allows them to quickly retaliate. With a speed most unnatural, Harg completely bisects two of the plant like creatures, one burning to burn to complete cinders soon after. Gauntlet pulverizes a third while Dirissa quickly follows up with a mashed up fourth. Basil finishes up the last one with several pellets scattered through its entire body.

Combat over. Wow that was fast.

Dirissa, you've heard of odd creatures called vegepygmies. While not the strongest of creatures, they are born from creatures killed by russet mold. Most likely they wanted to subdue you to increase their number through that method.

Samuel carefully places the book beside him on the cusions, as if he doesn't want to dirty it with his hands too much. he chuckles as he slips you the pills under the table.

"Glad I could help you find some good research materials," he says, a bit embarrassed that he "conned" his way into decent reimbursement for at least a while.

The effects aren't immediate, but time will tell.

At Luke's question, he gives some time to consider.

"Not much else, at least nothing that catches the eye. She had some books herself, mostly kids stuff, you know, classic tales. She'd always read to Copper, who doesn't know how. Can't remember the book specifically though..."

December 26th Update

I'm back! Though are you guys going to keep trying the front, or head to the back.

It occurs to me that you might have been waiting for my confirmation, that the door is still locked, which is correct.

December 26th Update

Thanks Basil, I can see what you're getting at. If an issue comes up, feel free to remind me about this example, but it makes sense.

December 26th Update

@ Kell
That wasn't a negative comment. It's definitely handy, and a decent choice.

December 26th Update

On your first step inside the building, you get a strange shifting sense as if you've been crooked until you got here, and as you look back at everyone, you feel as you are on the normal ground and they are all somehow tilted.

The directory near the front doors indicates the chemistry stations are on the third floor, and so far the coast is clear.
