Chocromancer 1
Alright folks, I think we're ready to start. Soon as I have time, I'll throw a post up.
And thanks to the Professor for being so patient!
Chocromancer 1
Ack! The correct spelling is Lorrimor.
And give Kendra a break why don't you, she was very tired while writing the invitations and severely distraught over her father's death to boot!
Chocromancer 1
Maelchar scans down the invitation looking for a name he might have missed. Sure enough, crammed at the bottom lies an immaculately written signature, carefully and daintily drawn with some of the best calligraphy any of you have ever seen.
Faithfully,
Kendra Lorrimos
Chocromancer 1
For ease of play, we'll say that the heavy cloak protects you.
I was thinking that you should be very close to Ravengro; shortly after you meet Raggimung the party will arrive at Ravengro.
Chocromancer 1
Not to worry Raggimung, after all, it would be highly illogical for four rather monstrous characters to encounter each other all at the exact same time! Join in and once you four are acquainted, we shall begin the campaign proper.

Ke'zsothar wrote: All right, here's a suggestion for the SLA's. They are a little on the powerful side, but then again, he is not really the strongest one in the group.
Magic fang (3/day)
Bull's Strenght (1/day)
Doom (3/day)
Protection from Law (constant)
Fine by me.
Chocromancer 1
Sounds great! Once Maelchar updates his character with the new feats, we should be good to go!
If any of you want to work out/roleplay your meetings on the rode to Ravengro, please, be my guest.
Chocromancer 1
Either take the roll of 36 fo' free, or spend a feat to roll thrice.
Also I'll have those feats for you very soon.
Chocromancer 1
Also I think it would be fair to give your eidolon all the special abilities of a normal soulbound doll (spell like ability, susceptible to mind affecting spells, and the focus I believe, check the PFSRD).
Chocromancer 1
In that case go ahead and make it a full construct construct then, no evolution points required.
Remember however that constructs get no saving throws and only have 2+int skill points. Due to the low intelligence of starting eidolons however, I'd say that it would be fair to say your eidolon gets a minimum of 2 skill ranks per HD.
How's that sound?
Chocromancer 1
One more thing, I'm not sure that it will be that important, but just in case could everyone else get their HP, AC, Saves, and spells up like Lorrimos?
Chocromancer 1
Mira Esoteria wrote: Is everything all good to go here? Also, should the eidolon actually be a construct instead of an outsider? Don't know exactly how much we're fiddling with rules. For the most part everything is ready.
If you want you could make the eidolon a construct, but otherwise I could let you take a construct traits evolution once you have some free points.
Chocromancer 1
Lorrimor: Love it. Sounds great. If you want to appear at a certain point in the funeral pm me and I can give you a rundown of how it will go.
Also I believe the official spelling of your name is Lorrimor. I'm guessing you realized that and just didn't have enough posts to change your name. Otherwise, just a friendly reminder.
Maelchar: I don't have access at the moment to the main computer where the pdf is stored, but as soon as I do, I'll send you those new options.
Kezsothar: With regards to your spell like abilities, I think you should decide what the Demon Lord of Badger's domains are and we can pull them from there.

Maelchar wrote: How about a link to the new campaign thread? Check the campaign tab of this thread, it should have reconnected to the new one.
Chocromancer 1
And one other thing, Maelechar I hate to make you switch templates, but changing to a normal vampire is going to make things a little more smooth down the line. If you want I can pm you some of the descriptions for the new traits/feats from Blood of Night.
Chocromancer 1
Made a new campaign and reconnected the threads, the gameplay thread should be working.
Chocromancer 1
Chocromancer 1
I can't seem to post in the gameplay thread either, I'm sure I'll have to email someone to resolve that. Does anybody know who?
Anyways, anyone not done with crunch should be working on that, and if anyone wants to work out some last minute background details with the Professor, do that as well.
Quick notes:
Maelchar: I just noticed that Dread Vampire is a separate template from normal Vampire, any particular reason you went with the dread variant? Also, I just came across a copy of Blood of the Night, so I have some fun new transformation feats and traits available for you as well. Oh, and it came with rules for Vampiric Hunger, so you can look forward to that!
Kezsothar: I just noticed you took the Charming trait. Awesome. I'm definitely adding a female badger into this campaign now.
After much deliberation, I decided that the fairest way to choose 4 players (+the ghost of Lorrimor) from all of the wonderful characters submitted would be a semi-random method involving rolling dice (some characters got small bonuses for things I like). I then examined the party to make sure it would function well, so here it is.
The party will be:
The Ghost of Lorrimor
Maelchar the Vampire
Mira and her Doll
Raggimung the Half Ogre
Kezsothar the Demon Lord
Thanks to all who submitted, those of you chosen head to the discussion forum for a little last minute balancing/background.
I've got everything I need, expect results tomorrow at the latest!
Thanks, I'd also enjoy some more background from both the Yuan-ti monk and Raggimung the half ogre.
Axolmotl wrote: I believe I've posted a solid chunk of backstory, and some brainstorming on crunch. Should I bring it back to attention, or is everything accounted for for my application? I have a pretty good idea of your character, you're good.
Oceanshieldwolf wrote: Thanks for the heads up CC.
BTW, is the Harpy Temple Dancer ok classwise?
How many RP would the Harpy's scream be, and/or how would you amend it so it isn't OP for 1st level?
I know you said this can all be done later to "balance" monstrous PCs togrther and it will be more RP than the default Carrion Crown, but still...
Don't worry about the balance, there will be a "balancing session" after I've decided the players.
I would, however, like you to amend the part where Lorrimos takes care of the harpy as his adopted daughter. I don't want to give out to many spoilers, but it will conflict with a certain npc's backstory.
On another note, I'd like to see a little more crunch from the mechanical Nymph slave (class) and the demon lord of badgers (class and a loose outline of racial abilities, stats, etc.
I'll be able to make a descision fairly soon, I just need to consolidate all the applications and figure out who's submitted what. Any one who still has fluff to submit should do so tomorrow if possible.
Backstory/concept is preferred to crunch. Of course, having both won't hurt either.
Recruitment is CLOSED!
The only posts that should pop up after this are backstory and/or crunch for those who have already posted here.
Doomed Hero wrote: If The Professor's Ghost gets turned down for some reason, I think I'll submit an Umbral Blot Synthesist.
Because who doesn't want to play a sentient black hole who made a pact with an outsider for the chance to have hands and feet?
Or maybe an Atropal Scion Synthisist who made the pact so it can be comfortable inside it's Eidolon's womb.
Why are you all looking at me like that?
I wouldn't worry about the Professor's ghost getting turned down. He makes the perfect "glue" so to speak; he gives all these monsters the perfect reason to get together and stay together.
In other news, the deadline for expressing interest closes in a few hours!
Recruitment closing soon - any interested speak up or forever hold your peace.
(Those who have already posted remember that you will still have ample time to put together full backstory and crunch).
@DH: Officially, Lorrimor was a neutral good wizard, but I'd rather that you alter his background and play him as a class that you like. Crypt-breaker and mindchemist would both be great.
Your ideas about the cleric/oracle are equally interesting, but if you do go that route, make sure that you distinguish his form of necromancy from that which would be practiced by, say, a cult like the Whispering Way.
"Lorrimor was a professor at the University of Lepidstadt and, as a scholar, Petros had used his knowledge and research to learn about the forces of evil to better combat them. He had particularly studied the Whispering Way as a local Ustalavic force for evil."

@twilsemail: What do you mean by visiting Nex? As in backstory, or during the campaign? And for what purposes?
Maelchar wrote: Yes I can see it will be - Speaking of choosing, when were you planning on closing recruitment and making that choice? I'm currently thinking that recruitment will close fairly soon. If you've already posted here but don't have a character yet don't worry, you can still submit after it closes. Past that I dunno.
Ooh, so many good concepts, it's going to be so hard to choose!
Mysterious... Who are these Greybeards?
@twilsemail and Digger: The statblock a are fine, what I'm interested in is backstory.
Your choice on the ogrekin deformities. I'd even be willing to let you take all four of those deformities if you wanted.

You just know that you're going to have a great campaign when someone uses the phrase "relatively normal" to describe an Animal Lord Dire Smilodon pc.
Harakani wrote: Hmm - is the circus idea/working through dominated pawns too problematic? No way, I love it! If you can deal with controlling all those creatures, it could work for me. And of course, there are plenty of workarounds, like having you only send one circus member out adventuring at a time, or me killing off members of your troupe if they got too numerous. Roll with it.
@Axolmotl: Yes, I'd be fine with you taking those feats and swapping out traits. Also, just out of curiosity, how old is Mira?
Javell DeLeon wrote: @+5: Well, being a Dhampir, I just see it as the two worlds overlapping one another in a sense. Basically born into both worlds instead of just the one. Plus, I just think it fits him. :)
I really don't know how to make more sense about it than that, to be honest. I've never built/played a template creature so this is all new to me.
If it weren't for herolabs, I wouldn't know how to go about this at all. :P
Dhampirs come from the union of mortal and vampire parents, or a mortal woman who became a vampire in her final days of pregnancy.
Vampires are usually embraced, or turned into a vampire by another vampire.
So you could simply attribute the dhampir part of the equation to your mother having an affair with a vampire, but you still need to explain how you became a full fledged vampire.
Mahorfeus wrote: This sounds silly, fun, and interesting. Ah, what the heck.
I'm interested in applying as an unfettered eidolon - should I use the base scores for the form, or would the point buy override them? Do I use the d10 racial hit die, or whatever die is appropriate for the class I choose?
Don't get worried about ability scores, alot of people have asked about those, so they will get figured out after I decide the players, and regarding hit die, yes you use the class hit die.
And why do I get the feeling that you're going to build an unfettered eidolon summoner?
Half the reason I made this thread was to see what crazy things people would come up with, and so far I've not been disappointed.
@Aramuth Is that a werewolf I spy?
@Axolmotl I've actually always wanted to play through a campaign as a soul bound doll. But anyways, I'm sure you could work something out, either through an eidolon or a modified druid companion. You could even work up a weak non-combat child character and then give the soulbound doll class levels.
Shoot, one other point, Count Choc is my alt, my original alias is monjebleu, and it seems I've been using the wrong alias, so pay attention to both Count Chocula and monjebleu posts.
Just finished reading Maelchar and Mabelode's bios. Just the kind of characters I was looking for. Still, I'd like to wait and see what else and how many other submissions there are before making any decisions about who's in.
To clarify: if you can make the backstory work and you can roleplay it, then you're allowed to play it. So essentially, with enough creativity anything goes.
This includes Lorrimor's ghost, Doomed Hero. After all, there's nothing like a liberal dose of amnesia to keep away those plot spoilers.

Ladies and lycanthropes, ghouls and gentlemen, children of all ages, sizes, and states of undeath, it is with my most extreme pleasure that I present to you an Ustalavian adventure in:
Freaks Like Us!
In this exciting adventure path, a band of unwary pcs will face off against horrors from beyond the grave, Frankensteinian abominations, power-crazed cults, and worst of all angry mobs with pitchforks! That's right, villagers with torches will pose quite a danger to our heroes, for they themselves will be as monstrous as the terrors they face!
It's ALIVE
Character Creation
20 point buy, standard gold, blah, blah, blah. What you want to hear about is the twist, do you not? Well here it is.
All characters submitted must have something MONSTROUS about them. ALL races from ALL Paizo sources are allowed. And that includes custom races in the form of mutants, laboratory experiments, degenerates etc.
Not into fancy races? Try a template! Ghosts, vampires, were-things, you name it. If it makes you monstrous, take it!
And of course, we can't leave out the psychopaths and cannibals can we? Characters' monstrousness may be internal as well, apparent only in roleplaying and backstory. Perhaps you'd like to play a lawful neutral fighter by day and Hannibal Lecter by night.
If you're still have trouble bringing out the monster within, I am allowing homebrew classes (these forums, GiTP, other sources) to be chosen as long as the class is fully fleshed out and contributes to the monstrous theme.
Really, your imagination is the limit, so submit the most twisted monstrosities you can think of, and post here or pm me with questions or requests.
Kill it with fire, cut off its head, stake through the heart.
The Catch
I didn't say there wouldn't be a catch did I?
Here's the deal, while you can make your character as hideous and despicable and evil as you want (no alignment restrictions), we're still going to run through Carrion Crown "as is." As in, "as it was written for nice normal PCs who follow the rules." This means that you must have a pretty good backstory reason for why your monster is such chums with Professor Lorimor, and you need to have (or at least pretend to have) some motivation for not eating every silly human you come across. Perhaps you're trying to redeem the sins of your kind, perhaps you've grown tired of small children hiding at the very mention of your name, or perhaps your evil code of evil just won't allow you to turn back on your word even if it means not sucking the delicious blood from the villagers (at least not all of them).
FAQ (Frequen--Aaaaaah! Qlippoths!)
Additional Info
Yes, with all the character options available player characters will have wildly differing power levels and will likely be wildly unbalanced. As you can imagine, however, this campaign will be quite a bit heavier on the roleplaying aspects than the original Carion Crown. Not to mention, there are certain "ways" of bringing overpowered characters to their knees. So really don't worry about power level or party dynamic, just make a character that will be fun to play and fun to explore.
Finally, I will be expecting good PBPers (check out Doomed Hero's guide if you don't know what this means) who can put in at least one post a day. And of course I'm not going to boot you for missing a day or two, so don't worry about posting if you've been eaten by a thousand-year-old-thing-that-should-not-be-named. Whew, nice job if you made it through these walls of text.
So that's all there is to it. Get cracking and check out the free Carrion Crown player's guide if you need more campaign info. Just remember, MONSTROUS!
