well...crap...oh well might as well close out of this one then...too bad

Rumors: 1d20 ⇒ 14

Cedryk smiles at the banter between the halfling and the older human. The revelation that the old man was a mage did not surprise the young ranger as he had all the 'traditional' trappings of a wizard. Listening to the others introduce themselves, Cedryk adds in his details.

"Well met all. I am Cedryk and I am a ranger looking for employment here on the borderlands."

That said, he waits to either hear more from the rest of the group or more importantly, whatever this guard has to say.

Cedryk offers his hand to help the halfling up and then gathers up the rope for the donkey and calms the beast down before joining the others by the indicated guard.

"Hi...I'm Cedryk. Are you sure you are ok?" he asks the halfling lass as they move off to the side.

Cedryk bows his head in deference to the priestess. He looks like he was going to say more, when some halfling ran her pony into the outer wall of the keep, drawing almost everyone's attention.

"Well...you don't see that every day!" he says with a wry smile.

"Are you OK Miss...?"

Cedryk looks over at the thin priestess.

"Ranger looking for work...you?"

Not sure how much to say, he watches the woman to see how she responds.

Cedryk waits patiently in line as the various merchants and farmers work their way into the keep. The journey was uneventful, but the ranger did make a few contacts within the caravan. Now he is just looking for a warm room and a cold ale.

She is terrifying....I would probably think twice before asking for any healing from her...lol, but seriously...!!

Ok...here is my Ranger character!!

Sorry...was thinking of 5e..which I have been playing lots lately...sorry about that...

Cedryk bends down and checks the man's wounds. He says a quick prayer while pressing a sprig of holly against the wound.

Cure wounds: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

Sorry, had numerous meeting the last few days...

Taking another swipe at the mound of rats, Cedryk slams his rod against the swarm.

Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Taking his newly acquired rod, Cedryk swipes at the swarm of rats.

Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

Cedryk, being at the back of the group, tries to see what is going on without getting into anyone else's way. He tells Hedgewyk to keep a watch on the corridor to make sure nothing sneaks up on them.

Cedryk moves down the hall with the others, staying near the middle of the party and ensuring his light can help others examine their surroundings.

"Be careful..that floor could be weakened by the fire and age."

Take care Fil

Cedryk waits a few minutes then casts light on his staff.

"This way, if your spell ends, we will not immediately be plunged into darkness."

He gives a wan smile as he cast the spell on his new snake-like rod.

Cedryk seems far away in his mental wanderings and pays little attention to the man and his antics. Hedgewyk rides on his shoulder, a troubled look on the small plants face.

Sorry, a little retcon if that is ok...Work kept me from posting most of the day..

Before he leaves, Cedryk turns to the Lords Burne and Rufus, as well as the other elders.

"I vow to find the creature who killed Jaroo. I also vow to protect the village to the best of my ability, which may not be much, but I am willing to lay down my life to bring a balance back to these lands. On my oath as a Druid, I do swear."

He gives an embarrassed nod and turns to leave.

Cedryk takes the ancient staff.

"I...I am not sure what to say. I will use it with honour and return it to the community as soon as the threat at the moathouse is over. Thank you, and I hope to be able to help the community here as well."

Cedryk replaces the quarterstaff he had previously taken, as the rod will suffice.

Once the others have gathered their items from the table, Cedryk takes the quarterstaff, leather armor, divine scrolls and any potions left by the others (not sure what was left...if anything)

"Those who prepared Jaroo for burial will know something happened, as will any who helped clean the shrine. I do not know who is senior in the Old Faith here, but you will need to speak to them to ask those of our faith to remain quiet about the happenings. "

Cedryk will wait until everyone else has chosen what they want before looking over the remaining items

Cedryk awakens in the room and is confused. He remembers heading back from the church, but after that it is al a blur.

"Did I fall or something on the way back? I..I cannot remember how I get here."

Cedryk steps to the body and, in the tongue of the druids, gives the body the blessing of the long sleep then, completely exhausted from the events, stumbles out the door. He collapses outside the grove and will not move from the spot unless carried.

As he lies there, Hedgewyk marches out of the grove and, with a spear-like stick in his hands, stands guard over the young druid, threatening any who might try to disturb him.

"Am I...am I free to leave?"

"What I would like is to tend to the body of Jaroo and prepare him for his final journey. I will not object to a guard, but please let me prepare Jaroo for the pyre."

Woot...2nd level!!

The druid shakes his head at the questions asked of him.

"I answered your questions already, why do you think to ask more will tell you anything different. Very well. I did ask to sleep in the barn, as I do not enjoy sleep inside such places as the inn, if possible. It had nothing to do with not being observed by any of the others in our party. I did enter the grove, as a member of the Old Faith. Do all members of your church need specific permission to enter your temples? I carried a message from my mistress for Jaroo...and no I do not have it, as I gave it to the false Jaroo. As to the creatures nature, I have no idea as I have never before encountered such a beast. It was able to alter its shape like a senior druid. I had no argument with Jaroo at any time until this pretender attacked me by the river. I never met the miller, but the fake Jaroo did indeed stop at the mill on our way about town. He told me they had a disease that he was trying to cure them, and that I should wait outside while he dealt with them. Hiram was in wolf shape when I first met him, and Jaroo said I should stay in his workplace for the night. This is the truth as I know it, by my bond to The Old Faith and traveler upon the path of the Druid."

Cedryk's answers:

Question One, are you a fish?
”An interesting question. I suppose you would need to know what a “fish” is. Members of the old faith can become various creatures, so if my old mistress was to become a fish, is she a fish or simply my mistress transformed into a fish. Beory, Mother of all, cares not for the outward shape of her creations, as she sees into their souls and marks them with their “true name”, which is not limited to what you would call a fish, or deer or person. DO you understand? Your questions are very vague. I suppose on the most basic level I cannot say that I am a “fish” as you would consider such a thing.”

Question Two, what is your name?
” I was named Cedryk by my family, but as you should know good Canon, names are a slippery thing. In Flann, my name means “lover of life”, which can also be translated to “lover of nature”, or even “plant friend” by some. Within The Faith I was given a name which I will not reveal here for none of you speak our secret tongue. And finally, everything in nature has a True Name. Some evil wizards use this power to bind outsiders to them, and in our faith, knowing a True Name allows a druid to take the shape of the creature whose name you know. Again, you use your idea of a “question” too loosely, but I suppose Cedryk is the answer you are looking for.”

Question Three, where are you from?
” Where are any of use truly from Canon? Where did humanity first realize itself and wonder as to its existence? These questions you ask are so vague as to be useless, Canon. I am sorry if my answers are confusing to you, but The Faith has us always question everything around us, to better perceive the world and all those who share it. It was my great failing that I did not heed my feeling about the monster who took the form of Jaroo Ashtree and call down the authorities sooner. It is my fault that Jaroo is dead. I ignored my training and better judgement and did not follow my intended course, and for that I will forever be complicit in his death.”

The young druid heaves a huge sigh, his body shaking with fatigue and grief.
Other Questions.
”The smith, I was told by the fake Jaroo, had been bitten by a lycanthrope…what you would call a were-beast. He was attempting to keep the smith bound over the next few days while he searched for a cure. I do not know where he is now, as I was not able to reach him last night to ensure he was properly confined. The druids bear companion and I came across the creature and gave chase, but I came across the others of this party in a copse of woods and was swayed to remain with them and explore some ruin. [‘b]
He stops and takes a deep breath before continuing.
[b]”As to the death of Jaroo Ashtree, I had mistakenly thought the creature had already killed him. It was not until I came back to the grove that I realized my mistake….I mean you and the people of this town no harm as long as you live in harmony with the world around you. Bit mark my words, there is a great imbalance in this land, an imbalance which will cause much tragedy, and this is only the beginning…I can feel it in the plants and earth.”

Finishing his answers, Cedryk sits holding Hedgewyk in his hands, gently patting the leshy on its leafy back.

DM:

Cedryk does not struggle nor in any way put up a defense until the priest attempts to bless the dead Druid.

"That is a wast as you should know. The followers of the Old Faith have their own traditions, which was what I was doing when you found me. The door to this cabin was open and Jaroo was there, as you see him."

Cedryk explains everything that has happened to him since arriving in town, leaving nothing out.

"I will submit to you at this moment, but I am innocent of this crime and answer to my organization and the gods of the old faith."

Shaking his head in sadness, the druid begins to clean up. The first deals with the body of Jaroo. He cleans up the little cabin, then lays the druid out on the table with a linen cloth draped over him. He then moves into the grove, where he attempts to clean the menhir of all the blood and offal that had been smeared over it.
He speaks to Hedgewyk and sends him into the grove to help repair some of the trees and other plants.
All night the young man works to make right what the beast had done to the grove and its protector. He prays to the Old Gods for guidance and help in dealing with the evil that plagues the land.
As the sun begins to rise, Cedwyk exits the grove and crosses the road to the tavern. Worn, covered in blood, dirt, and grime, he sits heavily in a chair. As he speaks, his voice cracks, as he realizes that these are the first words he has spoken since he returned to the village.

Jaroo, Druid of Hommlet, is dead and the grove defiled."

Cedryk also goes looking for the blacksmith. If he does not find him in the smithy, then he will enter the grove and search there.

Sorry, confused him with another druid character I have...just checked and he does not have a kit, my error..sorry

"I will have a look at them. Here, bring them together over here."

Cedryk takes out his healer's kit and using a poultice of herb, stabilizes the wounded men.

"I will need to pray to receive a spell which can heal their wounds, but for now, they will be safe."

Cedryk and Hedgewyk move into the room. Hedgewyk throws a pinecone at the bandit before them (Aide) while Cedryk attempts to strike him with his staff.

Seedpod: DC-11 or deafened

Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

DM:

Would I be able to cast entangle in this room? Just not sure if there would be enough plant matter here to make the spell viable. thanks

Oops..well then my staff is no longer enchanted... thought it was 1hour per level...but it is only 1 minute....sorry

"Well let's check out one of these doors..."

yikes!! Was out this evening and look what happens..lol Need to catch up!

Cedryk moves down the hallway with the others, holding his still-enchanted staff and ready if anything might suddenly occur.

"We also have the remains of the poor fellow who maybe thought he had found a hidden treasure. Perhaps we should get him down and search his body?"

Cedryk will help to bring the body to the ground and unwrapping it.

Trying to calm himself and take aim, Cedryk again swings at the spider.

Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Damage: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (6, 4) + 2 = 12

Cedryk moves in and strikes at the creature with his staff.

Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Damage: 2d8 + 2 ⇒ (1, 6) + 2 = 9

good god!!! the RDR is in a MOOD tonight!!

Hearing the dwarf call out, Cedryk quickly enchants his walking staff with the power of the druids and moves into the building to offer his help. Hedgewyk holds on as they move into position.

Cast shillelagh and move into the room to help Musami.

Updated Map (I hope)

Cedryk calls Hedgewyk back and the two of them wait until the door is open before acting. Cedryk keeps a wary eye towards the courtyard and building across it.

DM:

All sounds good. As to Hedgewyk's species, I think he would be made of Mistletoe, Holly, and Oak. His main structure is oak branches, covered with holly and mistletoe leaves (and oak, of course). So he would look like a small oak tree or holly bush when disguised as such. Hope that is OK

Are there no gaps in the area he might crawl through? If not, I will simply have him return to me.

Cedryk shakes his head at originally missing these tracks.

"Well at least now we know that the wagons might still be here...this seems to be the right place. Now let's go see who made those tracks I saw in the keep!"

Cedryk heads back with Braggi to the others, then asks Hedgewyk to sneak in and see where the footprints lead.

Hedgewyk Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Hedgewyk Stealth: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Hedgewyk survival track: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

Seeing his foe move away, Cedryk moves back to help the others with their final enemy, watching where Hedgewyk is so as to keep him out of the frog's reach.

Please move me back towards the last frog...I do not think I have the move to also strike the beast this round

Feeling the slimy tongue of the small frog slither across his cheek, Cedryk slams the beast with his staff, keeping it away from his leafy friend.

Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Whoops..totally missed that...sorry! Hedgewyk will hold off as well (he cannot do much at this point anyway!

Cedryk moves towards the nearest frog to him (little frog 1), and slams his staff into the slimy amphibian.

Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
