Having a banned tag could also make it easier to understand threads, there have been a few where I was reading and obviously someone said something and a bunch of posts quoting it or such are caught in the deletion as well. I am all for the removal system in place most of the time but sometimes I think that a ton of discussion is lost in the crossfire. Maybe something like removing the original posts but letting replies that don't violate ToS stay up with the banned tag on the OP being referenced ?
So this is my first post since the Occult Beta Test many many moons ago but I have been lurking through most of the terrible and watching a bunch of folks try their darned best to try to make sure this is a safe place for people and honestly renews my faith in the hobby. Thank you folks, from my Ace self and my NB partner we adore ya all :)
Im still not liking how some elements don't really blend well with composite blasts. Aether in particular seems hosed in this regard given it doesn't mix with ANY elements and its limited in forms and shapes it can make. So it almost forces you to take another element which you get no mixed blast options. and then at 15th you can either FINALLY get a composite blast by either picking yet ANOTHER element to gain a composite blast with maximum damage potential (and since we can all agree damage is this class's focus) or I can take my own Element for some blasts that work ok (The boost is nice) but I don't hit maximum potential damage. The telekinetic stuff is nifty and all but it doesn't compensate for loosing so much flexibility Throw foe is nice ( I can beat a F%%*&^ with another F^%^&% ! XD ) but its a lot easier to negate then preferred.
I must say I like the idea of feeling the burns augment having the same DR penetration as enhancement bonuses. Or possibly since the Kineticist is the conduit perhaps there being kinda tinges the blast imparting an aspect of alignment onto it (or both aspects at higher levels)? I assume on release there will be some item to potentially enhance the capabilities of the blast in a similar capacity to Amulet of Mighty Fists or a rod or something that can hold weapon enchants. but it would be nice for the class to have some way to circumvent a bit on there own like monks and a few others
The one problem I am encountering is if you start with Aether you really don't get any composite blasts until 15th level. You HAVE to take 2 different elements outside of Aether to get the harder hitting blasts because no element mixes with Aether at all. Im not saying that they need to have ALL the cool double damage type blasts that Water or Air may end up with, but something should mix somehow with Aether. Fire as well seems a bit lacking on the combinations as well (though not anywhere to the extent of Aether). Maybe because of the enhanced telekinesis you could drop a ton of rocks, or icicles on your foes or mix in debris into a torrent of air as it is fired. I don't quite know how to mix them exactly, I just feel that a Aether user should have some other element to draw from and mix with :)
Question: Once the prereqs for a Wild Talent are met (appropriate level and element known) do I have to use that element in its use. For instance I am Fire and I expand to Water and then learn the Spray Form Infusion. Does that mean i have to use my Water blast as basis for the cone or could I make a cone out of any other blasts I know ?
Important question for class testing Mark, do you think it better to test the class solo or in an adventuring party? I ask because while important to see the strength of the class on its own merits, it occurs to me that seeing how it interacts with a group is equally important. Curious before I go through the testing phase I have planned :)
Aether is where I will be playing, I like the idea of being able to do maneuvers as well as the blasts, which adds some versatility to what I can do on my turns. I kinda wish i had more skill points to play with but the flavor and feel of it seems fantastic. I think with the right feats (which I am sure many will be included in the final product) the class will truly excel :-D thank for the fun new class! |
