This week has been filled with taxes (mine and my mother's), making offers on a house and my oldest son's fourth birthday (today). So, no appearances from me until tomorrow, probably.

I did miss that, Fade. Thanks! Barrakhan accepts the potion with a nod of thanks and drinks it. Barrakhan waits, his elven blood singing with battle-fury. Readied attack v. First target in range:

"We need to cover the doors," observers Barrakhan. "This is the worst possible location. Up there on the loft would be better, or up there above the vats. The still room might also work. Slightly more defensible. The area above the vats has the best sight-lines." So saying, the elf hustles to guard one of the doors while waiting for the others to make a choice.

Not sure which island you wanted, Fey, so I picked the more middle-y one. Barrakhan sloshes through the water, setting Feybella down high and dry on the small island, then draws his sword and clambers past the little halfling, threatening one of the undead. I will use Opportune Parry and Riposte against any attack this round.

Barrakhan, understanding that some of his companions are far more experienced combatants, allows them to take the lead. He looks at Feybella and without preamble utters his longest statement yet. "You may ride upon my shoulders, Miss. The water is, as Fade says, likely to be deep." Sheathing his blade, he reaches down to pick her up.

Oblivious to the magic of the potions or even that Natula might not be able to use it all, Barrakhan is simply interested in getting out of the mud. "Perhaps we should let the army take this place. I doubt they would ever muster the strength to leave."

If Barrakhan understands Natula's humor, he shows no sign of it. Come to think of it, the odd elf has so far shown little in the way of emotion at any time. "We could leave and you would be stuck with your besiegers. Would you be better off? And if we are in league with your enemies, telling us who they are and what they want will cost you nothing. Either way your position is not materially worsened by conversing with us." "Whether it seems likely or not, we are here to help." Barrakhan uses reason, not charm, for persuasion. The Student of Philosophy trait.

It's easy to play the silent type when there's 13 posts since you last looked! Barrakhan listens to the debate and is startled when Natula ends the discussion with loud banging, but ultimately he agrees with her decisiveness. "A knot well cut, Natula. Perhaps you will also be wise enough to let the others do the talking, provided they get on with it?"

"There is no honor or advantage is beating those who no longer oppose us. Killing him quickly, though unnecessary, would be more honorable than beating him slowly to death." This is the longest phrase that Barrakhan has spoken since joining the group. Having so said, he checks on the various guards to see if any are still living.

Barrakhan feels a bit silly drawing steel in an empty field of mud and fog, but has learned to trust the intuitions of his fellow Pathfinders. His slender rapier clears its scabbard without a sound. "Maneuvering in this would be difficult. Let us hurry to dryer ground in the town."

Quiet and observant, Barrakhan picks his way amid the mire, walking with the party, learning their ways and following those who, like Fade, seem to know where they're going. Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 This group reminds me of schoolchildren, he thinks. The redheads seem the most mature, belying the stereotypes of wildness, while the others bicker and posture. It seems to be a mechanism for otherwise-dominant personalities to cooperate within the enforced group structure. Fascinating. He considers his companions and the subtle clues he has observed. Fade is clearly an adept of mental disciplines, he thinks. Given his trick with Spackle's drink, he is most likely a telekineticist. Feybella is clearly a devotee of Erastil. Given her limp and charm, combined with a lack of gravitas, she will be an oracle of some sort. Natula is clearly an arcane adept. Given her aggression and lack of charm, she is a wizard. Most likely an evoker or transmuter. No, a transmuter would be more physically rigorous. An evoker, then. Spackle himself could be none other than a bard, for anyone with such a gift for gab must be a bard. Orrin is the hardest to classify. Clearly he shares my own interests in alchemy and by the look of it is quite a bit more advanced in his studies. Yet his weapons and armor suggest that he combines his alchemy with more martial pursuits, likely using it to make him a better warrior. Why, he wonders, can the Society afford to pay us what will amount to thousands of gold coins, but cannot afford to send us to Railford in a carriage? The Decemvirate needs an accountant among their number.

Introduction:
_________________________ GM, How would you like me to handle Opportune Parry and Riposte? Opportune Parry and Riposte (Ex): At 1st level, when an opponent makes a melee attack against the swashbuckler, she can spend 1 panache point and expend a use of an attack of opportunity to attempt to parry that attack. The swashbuckler makes an attack roll as if she were making an attack of opportunity; for each size category the attacking creature is larger than the swashbuckler, the swashbuckler takes a –2 penalty on this roll. If her result is greater than the attacking creature’s result, the creature’s attack automatically misses. The swashbuckler must declare the use of this ability after the creature’s attack is announced, but before its attack roll is made. Upon performing a successful parry and if she has at least 1 panache point, the swashbuckler can as an immediate action make an attack against the creature whose attack she parried, provided that creature is within her reach. This deed’s cost cannot be reduced by any ability or effect that reduces the number of panache points a deed costs. What would be easy to handle face-to-face can be much harder in PBP. It's not fair to ask you to stop every time an NPC attacks my character and ask whether I'd like to attempt to parry and riposte. On the other hand, it's one of the chief features of my class. I suggest that you do pause to ask when a new enemy makes itself known, but that otherwise you require that I state in advance the conditions under which I'd want to attempt it. For instance, at the start of a fight, if the bad guys are about to attack, you could ask me before attacking. But after round 1, it's up to me to state whether I will or not before your turn is up. Fair?

A tall elf with long silver hair enters, whip-thin with pale skin and large lavender eyes. He moves with a casual grace, a rapier at his belt. "Larceny among Pathfinders hardly fits with our motto, Fade: 'Explore, Report, Cooperate.' Implicit in cooperation is not to needlessly anger other members. Such as by stealing their ale." He raises his voice and calls for the bartender. "Ale for my associates here. Chelish wine for me. The best you have." He turns to his fellow Pathfinders. "And I am called Barrakhan."
