The Restlands Map

You all arrive on the somber scene, a coffin sitting on a cart surrounded by a small group of people obviously grieving. You clutch the letter in your hand, but until this point its just been a bad dream, seemingly impossible. Now, seeing the makings of a funeral in front of your eyes, reality sets in.

Professor Petros Lorrimor is dead.

You recognize who must be the author of the letters written to each party member, Kendra Lorrimor. Not that you’ve ever met her, but it’s obvious due to the attention she’s getting. She doesn’t have much to say at this point, but she does take each of you aside and ask for you to be one of the pallbearers, that this was one of the professors wishes, another of the oddities of the whole situation. But, since you can hardly begrudge a grieving woman this simple request, you comply. By tradition the coffin must be carried from the gates onward, so you will have to carry it down the Dreamwake and further on the Eversleep until you reach the professor's final resting place.

Kendra tells you that they are just waiting on a couple more people and she will signal you when the time comes to begin. Though the people of the town seem to be keeping to themselves and have little interest in the newcomers, you curiously look at the your fellow pallbearers, obviously all not from this town, and can tell that they have a story too.

Feel free to introduce your characters at this point. Once everyone has had a chance to post I’ll move the story forward. Welcome to Ravengro!

Come on in to discuss your characters, I'll be looking over them and giving any needed feedback as quickly as possible. I'll give my basic character creation layout and we've already discussed race and class stuff, but if there's any other questions let me know!

You need to tie your back story to Professor Lorrimor, this will help me immensely. Obviously if you can tie in your character with another character (such as our elf/tiefling duo), also helpful.
Average Starting Wealth

Also, I decided to keep the xp that you gained in our first little romp, so keep that in mind and be prepared most likely for a quick level up as we hit the ground running.

This is the short list of things I though of off the top of my head, any clarifying questions and suggestions are welcomed, especially from those who are a bit more familiar with this AP. I'm doing my research now, so be prepared for any changes I might make to the start of this campaign. I'm stoked to be doing this, and as always I ask for your help in guiding my through any murky territory I find myself in!

Your hometown of Sandpoint is a quaint seaside settlement that periodically has problems with monsters, such as wicked goblins and hungry ghouls, but the citizens always manage to endure and survive. Lately, however, a far greater danger has come to threaten the town.

A few weeks ago, livestock started to disappear from nearby farms. Sometimes a half-eaten corpse is found, sometimes only bloodstains. The people of Sandpoint are afraid, and mayor Kendra Deverin is growing desperate. She hopes some heroes will volunteer to search out this menace and put an end to it before it kills a person. She’s offered $1,000 gold pieces to the group that stops this mysterious creature. Although no one has seen the killer directly, a long black fang was found in one of the animal corpses, prompting the locals to dub the unseen killer “Black Fang.”

You have decided to go on a quest to put an end to these brutal killings. Rumor holds that Black Fang is living in an old cave not too far from town, which has been used as a den for many monsters over the years. You've gathered your gear and are now approaching the entrance to this dungeon, but you still have a few moments to get to know your fellow adventurers.

Again, you won't arrive until tomorrow, so the most you should worry about is just introducing yourselves and having fun. So, goodnight all!

Come, meet, discuss! I know there are 6 people which was my max, which will make some of these initial encounters easier. But I promise if you help me by working through them with me, I will work into some more intricate plots and more difficult encounters. I've got to be done with this for the night, so I'm off, but thank you for your interest and I look forward to playing together.

So, let me explain. I am a bit new to all this, but I am involved in a few PbP's and have had a bit of experience playing a home game. That being said, instead of trying to join every PbP that get's posted, I figure maybe I aught to try and GM for myself. I'm not very up on advanced rules, races, etc, etc, even though I have access to a lot of stuff through books, prd, pdf's and all that. I am most comfortable with the core rule book.

What I would like to do is this - recruit 4-6 players to run through the Beginners Box encounter and the extras that they have released. I'm choosing this because they are very simple and will help me to learn what it is that I'm doing without serious complications, crazy rules, etc. Ideally, I would like to have some kind of experienced players, particularly people who have GM'd before, to participate and kind of help me along with my GMing skills. But, I have a soft spot for new people to the game, so I foresee a mix of both.

As far as races/class limitations, I am not going to stick with the Beginner Box character creation rules. I've got a little more experience than that and they are just too limiting even for me. That being said, I would like to stick to core races and classes. I have a pdf copy of the APG and a lot of the other source-books, but if you can keep to the core stuff and maybe in the future I'll work my way out of there. We will be working off a 15 point buy like the beginner box characters, however, because these encounters aren't exactly difficult.

For posting, I am very available during the day M-F, and spotty on the weekends, so I would like to see 1-2 posts on weekdays and a post or two over weekends if you can. I will have maps available in Google Docs (home-made, so be kind!) so we can have some visuals.

Depending on how many people we can get on this and what the characters look like I can beef up the encounters, I do know at least that much of how to do things. So please post if you're interested, and don't be scared because I'm new! I really like this game and am willing to learn and if this goes well I would definitely be interested in expanding into bigger and better things, maybe even a full on campaign.

I've seen similar posts along the way, so here's my shot. I'm pretty new to Pathfinder; I was introduced to table-top rpg through a short lived home game, also joined what turned into a failed online pbp, and am going to my first Society play in a couple of weeks, so I still consider myself pretty green. I'd like to get into a classic, 1st level Pathfinder campaign setting online as a kind of learning experience and see where it goes. I've got a lot of the source materials (I was a little overzealous when I first started playing so I bought and borrowed a lot of stuff to read) so for the most part creating basic characters, leveling them up, etc, I don't need a lot of help with. I just want to do some gaming. I've got plenty of time to participate in an online forum, so I think this would be pretty awesome. I just need someone to GM and some people to hop on board. I don't care which campaign setting it is, I just want to dive in. Any takers?

Against the Unseen: High Elves can perceive creatures that dwell in the wraith- world, be they spirits or ghosts, even when they are normally invisible to the eyes of the living (including Unclad and Invisible Ringwraiths).

Additionally, High Elves are considered to succeed automatically at any Fear test forced upon them by an undead creature.

Beauty of the Stars: Raise your maximum Hope score by 2 points. Additionally, you receive a bonus Success die to use during the introduction step of any Encounter. Finally, for every Gandalf result on the Feat die you get during the interaction step pick one of the following bonuses:
• When resolving the encounter, the company counts as having scored an additional success.
• After resolving an encounter with Mortals, choose a subject: that character retains only the vaguest memory of what was said or agreed. This effect counts as a magical virtue for the purposes of increasing a company’s Eye Awareness (see page 112).

Books and Maps of Forbidden Lore: Elrond has entrusted you with the access to many precious texts and ancient maps compiled by Elvish scribes and long-dead scholars of the Dúnedain concerning the Shadow and its effects on the land.

Thanks to this forbidden knowledge, you have learned to recognize the presence of the Shadow in an area. You automatically recognize the threat of the Shadow when you are about to enter a Blighted place. When this happens, you may make a Lore roll: on a success, you identify the source of the blight, allowing you and you companions to lower the TN of any Corruption test by one level (TN -2).

Additionally, if you traversed at least a Blighted area during the last Adventuring phase and you succeeded in the associated Lore roll, you may spend a Fellowship phase compiling your experiences as your undertaking, to gain 1 Experience point.

Bulwark of Ecthelion: A shield sparkling with crystals, inlaid with ithildin, spelling out "A Elbereth Githoniel" in Quenya.

The Bulwark of Ecthelion- The Bulwark is of Ancient Cunning Make, reducing it's Encumbrance by 3, or an amount equal to your Valour rating, whichever is higher.

It has two more Qualities, both enchanted;
It is Superior Reinforced, raising the shield's Parry Rating by 2 and preventing it from being smashed.

It confers a Blessing to Awe.

This shield's qualities may be activated as per the rules. If you wish to have visited your folk's treasury to trade in some rewards to activate more qualities, just let me know and mark it on your character sheet.

Elbereth Gilthoniel!: If you or one of your companions are Wounded or Miserable, you can invoke the name of Elbereth and spend 1 or more Hope points to add an equal number of Success dice to a coming roll. Additionally, each Elven hero (or Elf-friend ) in your company gains 1 bonus Success die on their next die roll too.

Elf-Lord: To the eyes of Mortals you are as a lord amongst princes. Fair of features and noble of heart, yet terrible to behold when angered. You have seen the glory of Eregion, and the golden armies of your forefathers, but now all that once was great is faded and all tha you once ruled naught but ruins.

Elven-Lore: The memory of three ages of the world, Elven-lore preserves recollections of deeds and places lost to the Old lore of other races. You are also versed in the Ancient Tongue of the Elves beyond the Sea.

Enemy of Sauron: All creatures of any kind recognise you as an enemy of Sauron. His servants fear you, and will avoid confronting you, unless confident in their superiority. When facing the proof of the presence of the Enemy, you cannot refrain yourself and must take action.

Fair: You are considered beautiful by most people, even by those not belonging to your folk.

High Elf of Rivendell:
In Rivendell can be found Elves with long, flowing golden locks, silver tresses and hair the colour of the dark shadows of twilight. They are at once venerable and noble as a king, yet hale and hearty as a warrior. They are tall and lithe, yet possess great strength and endurance. All High Elves of Rivendell have one thing in common: their pale faces are ageless, neither old nor young, yet written on them are the memories of both gladness and sorrow.

Lordly: Your dignified bearing arouses feelings of reverence and respect in onlookers.

Prosperous: Almost all families belonging to a Prosperous culture can afford to live in separate, private houses. Important individuals wear fine clothing and often have one or more servants in their service at home.

Characters coming from a Prosperous culture can usually pay for their share of any out of pocket expense encountered along their journey, and might even pay for another companion, if need be. This includes, for example, paying for comfortable accommodation, spending some time drinking in company at an inn, and hiring beasts of burden (such as ponies).

Rhymes of Lore: Rhymes of Lore are brief compositions in verse created by many cultures to remember significant facts from ancient history. Your knowledge of them can supplement a test of Lore, but is used especially in conjunction with any Custom skill (Courtesy, Song or Riddle). Scholars may credit much of their knowledge to rhymes.

Scholar: For you, knowledge makes the wild world a less threatening place to live in. Strangers become friends if addressed properly, yellowed maps in lost books replace a fear of the unknown with curiosity and wonder of places you have yet to explore, songs composed in ages past strengthen the weariest of hearts. A love of learning guides your every step, and illuminates the way for you and those who listen to your advice.

Spear of the Last Alliance: When you roll a great or extraordinary roll using a Spear of the Last Alliance, you may spend 1 point of Hope to make a second Attack roll against a different opponent.

This character was built with 18 “previous experience points”. They were spent on:

Background:

Galadhon was born in Forlindon in 2063, the same year that the Watchful Peace began in Mirkwood and is now 883 years old. His father, Oronthir, an elf-lord of the House of Finarfin, was a survivor of the Last Alliance, having fought under Gil-Galad.

Galadhon married Elemmiriel, a Noldorin beauty from the Grey Havens in 2380 and the two lived in peace and contemplation of the sea. They had one child, an elf-maid named Lindis, born in 2495.

In 2509, when Galadhon was visiting Imladris with his family, he allowed his sixteen-year-old daughter to accompany Elrond's wife Celebrían over the Misty Mountains to Lorien. Goblins attacked the elven party in the high pass of Cardhras. Lindis was captured with Celebrían and taken into slavery within the endless tunnels below the mountains.

Just as Elladan and Elrohir searched for their mother Celebrían, so Galadhon sought tirelessly for his daughter, but it was not to be. When Celebrían returned to Imladris broken in spirit, she told how Lindis and all her retinue were cruelly slain by the goblins. Grief-stricken, Elemmiriel was unable to find further joy in Middle-Earth and sailed away to Aman with Celebrían in the following year.

Devastated by the loss of his wife and daughter, Galadhon could no longer abide beside the sea in Lindon and moved to Imladris at the invitation of Elrond. There, he learned to find solace in scholarly lore. Over the next five centuries, he became one of the chiefest lore-masters in the Last Homely House, specializing in the Forbidden Lore of the Enemy and also battling with goblins and the creatures of the Trollshaws at whiles.

Now, though, Elrond has requested that Galadhon take on a new duty. He is to accompany the dúnadan Ayluin into the wild lands of Rhovanion, offering the ranger counsel and insight at need.
