Female Silver Dragon My Level of Class is unmatched by any and all!

Private Conference with Anuk-su:

You enter Anuk-su’s private chambers, where you see her working at a desk.

On the wall above her is a very ornate set of crudely drawn, but lovingly rendered, pictures of a knight with Ustalavian heraldry.

She has also practicing her languages, and you notice that her firm flowing script has (in various tongues) “Anuk-su Seti – throthplighted to Sir Kyle Dashan” – “Kyle Seti” and Anuk-su-Seti Dashan”. You notice she has scribbled over this last one, and has put a something that looks like a bold “check” by “Kyle Seti”…

Seeing you approach, she quickly closes her papers and turns to greet you.

”Ah, good evening honored sister. Well – I have heard rumor from the folk about town that you wish you – like me – could fly,” she says in what is already shaping up to be a rather smug beginning; you sense.

Dior, who has followed you behind, rolls his golden eyes, and contents himself to be a bit of a pest behind you – somewhat flighty you’d think.

If you didn’t know better; you’d think he was starting act like a “teenager” – and you’re not sure, but his shoulders seem higher then they used to off the ground… Of course, it has been a little over an entire year since he was presented to you as a freshly hatched “cub”.

Meanwhile, Anuk-su steeples her fingers, and you sense with growing impatience she’s eagerly planning on coming to the point with a frustratingly slow relish.

”Naturally thou art aware that I have heard of this quandary before; what with thy sad predicament to remain on the earth while we more advanced creatures soar over head,” she begins.

”Naturally, I grieved for you sister,” she says with a melodramatic shake of her head ”And I wished I could help. However – it took time to put the pieces together before I could really offer a solid suggestion on that point.

She pulls out a neatly bound folder – and dumps it unceremoniously onto the desk between you, a pile of notes inside; which she quickly arranges.

”Now then – let us proceed thusly; with the facts collected and then we shall begin to unravel this mystery.”

”Firstly – you discovered me by chance or fate – the gods led you to me, it seems. However – during that time, I should add that you were also guided by the machinations of vile men. Even so – if there is wisdom – consider the source, yes – but also; do not turn aside from wisdom, even if the source be foul; for who has made knowledge, if not the gods?”

Seeing your look – she hurries on.

”Now – the reason I was taken and captured, as was my brethren; was because there was a man who wanted to use me for a purpose.”

”This man deemed me to have great value; which I do – but more so in keeping with his own dark arts and methods.”

”His first clue was the understanding that sorcerer’s often have unique bloodlines – some have Fey, others have Djinn, others still – dragon! This bloodline would be mixed 1,000’s of years ago – dormant; then one day – it would appear and a sorcerer would be born with great power within him.”

”After that clue, he hypothesized – What if the blood could be mixed directly with the subject – to be undiluted, and pure? What would it do to the potency of the magic; and what other blood could there be induced?”. His speculations fell short; for the most part – because he could not wholly get his methods of mutations correct; nor did he have pure dragon blood to work with.”

”This – of course – was thy second clue. He needed pure dragon blood to begin his real experiment. And he had it – with me – but you saved me before that foe could act.”

”The next clue I discovered – and again; this was purely by happenstance – after all, sister, one piece alone is not enough; there needs be more to make a single fact a realization – we dragons have mated before with humans; if we find one worthy – which is likely where the bloodline began. Naturally – you knew this as well; due to my constant pestering about the magnificent Sir Dashan,” she blushes slightly, but continues however – this proves that; unlike troll blood, draconic blood can work. Troll blood - not very well - for when it is introduced into a human – the problem is normally that the troll blood will attempt to “regenerate” inside the human, until it overwhelms the human blood, killing the host. Or the host itself will use its own anti-bodies to fight the troll blood and destroy it.”

”This is because – as of now; there is no known way to blend blood that is incompatible. But we know from my… my… observations with Sir Dashan – and other studies – that such a bond of blood; between species can happen, to great effect; and without hurting the host – even as you have, somewhere in your past – the blood of angels”

”This brings me to my next point – valid, though a bit of stretch, perhaps. Angels are, of course – heralds of the good aligned gods. My lord Apsu is in fact; a good aligned god. Would you have the blood of a red dragon introduced into you; I fear it would contest your angelic blood like a poison. But a good aligned dragon? Why sister – surely you can see with even minor spell that my blood is certainly both Good and Lawful besides? Therefore – why should my blood be incompatible with yours; as you already have angelic blood in it – and, moreover; you have human blood – which we know mixes with draconic.”

She sighs, and shakes her head.

”Now we touch it; though – sadly, I suspected that if this experiment would proceed – I would have to encourage you to do something against your nature. I would fear that you would be less eager for blood mixed with yours – and besides – you may ask; how would we mate… and if you seek to hear comments from either General Malas’Rae or Mister Grishnak – on how we two could "Mate"! Grah! I’ll castrate them before hearing those suggestions,” she ends tersely.

Pausing a moment, she proceeds.

”But then I thought of the next clue – namely – the methods of the redoubtable Mister Gragkh – the little goblin warrior that rides after Mister Tyrell like his dog? He was my next clue; a person who insisted that if you vanquished an enemy – it was best to take a piece of them inside you as conquest.”

”Somewhat barbaric – I pressed him on it; was cannibalism common to his folk? He told me: no. Further – he said – if you recall – only actions against an enemy who has honorable. For example – a heroic enemy may have the heart of a hero; if you consumed the heart, you too may have that hero's heart in you for a while – a wise enemy would have the brains of great wisdom; could consuming his brains make you wiser? Gragkh seemed to think so; among other organs..." she adds with look of disgust crinkling her nose.

”But in any case - what did this clue tell me? Why of course – what you already know, of course. Simply put, all dragons posses – in their blood – the natural power of magic. Furthermore – all metalic dragons – such as myself – posses in their blood the element of Good.”

”Therefore, if an honorable enemy; or at least – a chosen person would taste my blood; what would it avail them? I feel it would give them a strength in their being – yes; for a time – but as you know, what you put in your belly is not going to stay there forever.”

”Even so – this wracked me with various other issues and conundrums. If not your belly; how could you receive my blood? Between two females, proper mating is not a formal option. Well then - if not through mating, how could we join? Further – if either of those things happened; that is, you drank my blood or somehow managed to change your gender to mate with me, or I you – what would happen next?”

”Well – of course; I considered the points in order of importance.”

”If you were to take my blood into you somehow – what would that avail you? Certainly the power of my magic would work in your body – but to what end? Would you grow scales and a forked tongue?” she asks with a grin.

”Hardly, I should think – unless it was more blood then you could stomach – perhaps half of your blood like my own. If you were to somehow manage to slay me – for example – and ingest my blood or organs – then yes; I could see you taking on a distinct draconic set of features. But since mortal battle with me would not please either of us, nor do I believe you would be pleased with the results of being turned into an almost “dragon lady” – what is the other option?”

”Well – again, thinking on it, I came to another conclusion. What would a small amount of blood do? Well – if my theory is correct; you would feel the blood inspire the magical elements in your blood to great heights. You would feel a larger inspiration of those parts of yourself that are bonded to your celestial ancestors become inflamed – and why not? After all – it would be like giving a proper fertilizer to a little plant that needed love.”

”Your Celestial Bloodline is strong enough for you to have such powers – but more than that? What if you were to take that blood within your body; and invest in it a magical catalyst – spawned by a goodly and nobly made creature; with a good alignment by its bloodline, and one that is magical besides – what do you suppose that would do to your own blood?”

”Why – I should think the answer would be obvious! I think that it would inspire your blood to new heights – I feel that it would encourage your blood’s natural angelic tendencies – perhaps somewhat dormant – to awaken themselves into something bolder and more powerful.”

You notice that she has carefully arranged all the notes in a specific order on the table.

Lencher’s journal mentioned first – then the discovery of mutated blood and its drawbacks and potentials – the possibility that a mixture could provide new “supersoldiers”, a failure as the proper mixture couldn’t be found – the discovery of Anuk-su herself, who would be experimented on for that very purpose – Anuk-su’s guardians mentioning the fact that dragons and humans can mate; as well as the notes you read on the subject when you examined the “Draconic War Manual” – the knowledge the Metalic, especially Silver Dragons, where made most in the likeness of their god Apsu, the co-creator of dragons, and behaved most like him; a goodly, almost godlike servant filled with magical being in their very blood – the offhand comments made by Gragkh about how consuming the blood of an honorable foe is “good luck” and that taking the right parts of an enemy inside of yourself will encourage your own parts; such as the heart of brave enemy enflaming your courage; or the brains inflaming your wisdom; and through corollary; why not the blood inflaming your blood – the fact that your own bloodline has untapped potential, that may be awakened with the right magic; which you have not had a time to learn, and could take you years besides – and the sudden knowledge that if draconic blood was inside your system somehow, it’s natural propensity to magical power, coupled with (luckily) Anuk-su’s noble bloodline, made apparent with the constant unusual reminders from devotees to Apsu….

She looks up at you with a wide smile.

”Yes – well; as you can see; if you take the time to write things down and arrange them, well – I should think any mystery or riddle seems very easy, once you see the answer; but it is the getting there which is the challenge! Though, I recall that Mister Rowan suggested that it is also part of the “fun”… who knows, perhaps he may be right!”

She steeples her fingers and purses her lips.

”Now, if there was only some way we could be more then adopted sisters – if there was only some way we could be real sisters – of the same blood… But; how could that happen? That is the difficulty…” she ends, musing to herself, and takes a cup of herbal tea to sip, her young face pondering this question, as Dior looks to you for options.

"Ah yes - thy allies. Never fear - our lord Apsu will protect them well; and if by some chance they suffer, we shall surely avenge them." Anuk-su says, patting you gently on the knee.

"Meanwhile - while we art here - what is thy plan on the nation as a whole? As leader of these citizens folk, thou certainly have much to consider on these matters, eh?" she asks you with wide eyes.

Her Response:

”Ah – very well – yet I am quite surprised that thou pursue only this random hunter with such enthusiasm – I should think that thy would be interested in other mysterious things – for example; if Master Rowan’s accounts are accurate – what ever happened to the mysterious hunter with the running wild women – who traveled over the western plains and recruited with her an elf from thy original company with a bow like a moon crescent? Also – as I think on the matter – what was the real threat of the strange runic symbols etched on those blades; both the one called Arasmes, and the other – this elf wizard Shaezon – both seemed to think that the Aboleth writing bespoke poorly of the water – and methinks the Yuan-ti may know more of this…” she adds.

”Still – perhaps thou art right – fighting against the Fey Forest directly could not only prove deadly; but also be counterproductive – indeed; they may be powerful allies, and as well – it may also be a wise thing to learn of their culture, and certainly it would please the gods.”

"And as for this Grymm fellow? Very base and vulgar he is - like as not he'd not obey my orders in any case - very well; we shall leave him to the others - meanwhile; I shall let thee attend to thy duties," she adds.

Her Response:

"In matters regarding the Fey Forest - it is vast and deadly - and its powers are ancient - so we were told in tales of lore - for though it covers a mere few hundred miles - it is said that many who enter it never find their way out again - and those that do are seldom the same...."

"Hmm... yes - my kinfolk... Thou do broach a complicated issue - namely; the absorbing of the new kobolds into my own peoples..."

"I see they are without direction and guidance - even as the accursed ones vie for my splendor. Very well - I say unto thee - arrange henceforth a meeting with all the newly drafted silvers so that I may address them properly - then I shall deal with the accursed ones myself; though of course - thou may be present to witness such proceedings, if thy would," she adds with a generous wave of her hand.

Anuk-su’s Response:

”Ah – brevity! For this I am deeply indebted – for surely I have not smiled mightily since the challenges I and my kinsmen faced in the foul city to the south… Surely you mean – you would wish to live on my lands? Well – naturally this acceptable to me – I shall permit it, indeed! And as for your suggestion of seeking the title “baroness” – a mean title of base level – I would have found it better to grant you the name Magna Ducissa – still, I shall endure it, if you prefer.”

”Now – if you speak of relocating on the remains of the shrine to Erastil – well; perhaps – but it is an odd place, even in my own time before you were born – there were strange things that reached into ancient ages past – our loremasters warned against straying there too often, if at all…”

”It seems better to me to expel these fool “Council Members” to such ruins, while we formally seize the capital and put this land to rights under our reign!” she adds with a gentle, sisterly smile.

”Still – I know thy mind in these matters; I sense that thou would not be interested in such pursuits, even though they would be more practical… Even so – if thou would go to this ruin and make something useful of it – I shall come with thee – of a certainty. Clearly thou would be best served with a companion with experience, maturity, and a stable sense of thinking, and who better to serve this position then I – though of course I shall not “serve” – rather, we shall work together to bring life into those ruins; at the least it would be wise to have one to protect thee near those forests – for I sense dark things afoot – even if they obfuscate themselves for now…”

Despite her straight words – she seems quite enthusiastic to travel with you!

Anuk-su does not fully know - but certainly Brett would - and likely Ariarh - and possibly Kae, if he did any reading last winter -

Lencher studied the theories of Lutharo - specifically the methodology of using alchemical remedies and potions to gain power and further knowledge and learning for a purpose.

However - Lencher's methods were far more... direct; Lutharo preferred a more subtle approach - and despite their duality in dark practices, Lutharo sincerely believed his actions were ultimately righteous- even if the entire world wouldn't appreciate it until after he was long dead.

He had attempted to - for example - create a rudimentary dialysis machine to attempt to remove "tainted blood" from sorcerers and vampires - ghouls and other things - rumor had it that he had attempted to use surgeons to discover the threads in the brains of Halflings who had been cursed in the desert with a cannibalistic insanity - and so discover the element of Chaos in the brain and remove it with tools, not magic. He had other experiments - all with dark side effects and darker results - but always with the ultimate drive to compile cures to the woes of humanity - his chief concern.

It is said his former obsession was with the god Aroden - and was clearly driven with tales of how a being born as a mere boy could one day be looked upon as a god - and was especially obsessed with legends of a visitor from the heavens who would fly down into the realms of man to do miraculous deeds and help mankind...

Truly a strange individual - even so - the story may be interesting to Clari - and Anuk-su is resolved to share with the elf this information.

After a good night sleep, however...

Ariarh - hearing Clari - rouses herself...

"Fear little for that - there is darkness in him - but it can be exorcised rightly, I should think - with patience and perseverance- the element of Chaos that bonds itself to mortal flesh may yet be removed and leave the flesh healed... I have heard tales regarding such things, spoken on regarding a warlord in the western lands of Ustalav - but he originally came from some small berg of little note, so small that I cannot recall the name of it..."

"In any case - this man - he had fine manners, and was gracious - and handsome - and a fine warrior besides - and - moreover - a priest of note - even so; it is said behind closed doors he did dark things - cruel things - and in the end, his obsession for finding a cure to the woes of mortality would be his undoing... What was his name... Ah yes!" she adds, suddenly remembering.

"Lutharo - Alexander Lutharo... I recall his standard well - the double runic L - emblazoned on it - for it is said that the rune "L" - so rendered - is the rune for dreams of great things - but to double it shows both Chaos, in the form of a dark dream... So too, it was with him... He took then his surname, and shortened on his standard after the insanity of his own father... and so his standard bore thus the double rune - "LL" - for he shortened his name... they called him "Lex" - as do the tales speak..."

"He practiced many things - always for a good purpose, no matter how dark his path - so he said - but - if there was ever a man to exorcise dark blood from flesh - surely this is such a man who could do so... Perhaps it would be interesting, if he were discovered?" she adds, pondering the mystery - on if Kae could actually have his "tainted blood" forcibly removed.

"Humph! Well - alright then - but before I retire properly - I shall demand firstly a slab of bacon, broiled, not fried - and tea, with honey, clearly - and, tell the good Halfling to hurry, for the night grows late and I have had a long evening! Also - before thou retire as well - make haste - for I would have a proper tale to send me to the dreamworld! Oh - and while thou are about thy business send Mister Dior hence to my bed, so that we two may warm the bedclothes for thee properly - and let it be known to him that if good Mister Dior snuggles adequately I shall do fair duty and let him taste a portion of my bacon, once Mister Rowan prepares it... Now - hurry along, as I said - the hour is late..." she adds, letting you know you have her leave by giving you a polite "wave of her hand"...

Clari Miali'ahel wrote:

SOrry, i meant to say that this conversation waits till we are settled down for the night. She waits till there is not anything left to do for the night before approaching Ariarh.

Clari graces Anuk-Su with a blank look, trying not to further upset Keravel by disrespecting the little dragon "Malas'rae and me are not kin. His mother watched over me after his father brutally murdered my family. Clearly, Malas'rae carries the taint of his father's perverse magic. The enchanter summoned all kinds of Fiends and you've seen the half-elf become a fiendish abomination himself."

To Ariarh she replies, "Well, it's good that he don't share the Demoness's attraction..." She is clearly incredibly uncomfortable with the though of Kae and Qwykee together in...that capacity. "He does seem to have grown up. In our home our names mean something to each of us. Malas'rae was his chosen name, means Mad Beast of War. But he's growing out of that, it seems..."

While not one of her usual angry glares, Clari does give the girls a somewhat severe look, that indicates that the though of she and Ka'etil being brother and sister is truly repugnant to her an some sort of deep level.

"I'm an Elf, and Malaas'rae's only a half-breed. I age a lot slower than he does. I looked almost as old as I do now back when he was screaming and crying little brat cutting his teeth. I'm more than twice as old as him. We come from the same place, but we aren't blood."

"Yes... you are a mere elf - and if thou would compute worth by age then I eclipse thee by many centuries - and am far superior in value to thee therefore by merit," she adds, staring at Clari.

"Further - thy species is ancient - but you are clearly not aligned to the wisdom of your elders, nor thy betters! If that were so - then thou would bend thy thinking to the will of the universe bends itself to the nuances of the will of the gods themselves! Indeed - as the gods do knit the stars in the heavens or create the planes in existence- so too do they trouble themselves with such trivium as bloodline. In short order, elf - thy present a lowly assessment of the gods - and through them where they they place thee and thy kinfolk! What - do thy think that thy know better thy value then that of the gods themselves? 'Twas they which gave thee this one as thy brother - it was their will to do so - accept this as fact, and with some form of dignity... Yet rather; see how thy do declaim!"

"Thou see thy brother as a conduit for mockery, an object of thy scorn or ridicule! How so - he is thy blood - the gods made him so - so not only do thy mock thy own blood, and through it thyself... but thy mock the very gods; for they have given him to thee as your own blood - if thy had quality then I would say cherish it, rather then mock it..."

Anuk-su tilts her head back to look down her nose at the elf who is taller then her, even so...

"Or do thy seek to grandiose thy own name over the gods themselves, and so add blasphemy on to the list of thy dark marks - as too disloyalty to thy own family!" she adds the last with a hiss.

Hearing Anuk-su's blunt explanation, she quickly intervenes, knowing Anuk-su and Clari have an argumentative history.

"My dear ward, Clari is simply seeking information regarding her old friend. They have not seen each other for some time and you must admit, initially none of us took well to the succubus until we listened to what she had to say and had witnessed her good intent. Please do not be so hard on Clari. I do not mind answering questions if it will aid in understanding and harmony within the party."

"True; but she takes thee aside to ask private questions about her brother! What is this? We should show loyalty to the half-elf first - he is our chief companion - not her - and in any case, she should instead obey his needs - he is the elder child, and also - she is not very polite. I don't care for her, to tell you the truth - for I find her to be somewhat... condescending, and a touch arrogant," she adds, lowering her voice, for Ariarh alone.

"Between our own two selves," she says in a harsh whisper "I do not care overly much for arrogant folk - they are, in my opinion - ever so boring, and tedious besides!" she adds, nodding sagely at Ariarh even as Brett is positively stamping with impatience to get out of the cavern and down to the beach.

"Indeed - the young lad has spirit, promise - and heart - and the wisdom to discern that such private words rarely breed peace between confederates!" Anuk-su huffs with a haughty tone, elbowing her way in front of Clari.

"You ask questions on your own bloodline? What matter of disloyalty is this?! He is the elder - and, moreover - he is the malechild - his ancestry takes precedence over thy own in matters of family - even as thy are elven, this is the truth of it."

"Wouldst thou cleave unto his blood by shared kinship then thy could not divest thyself from his true nature - but rather - thou must accept it with dignity and humility, and trust in the nature of thy family - adhering to it - and trust to his will."

"Should thy dissemble from this course it is not only unseemly - but rather; it bespeaks bold statements on the worth of thy character - and the lack of worth... if thy would not be judged rashly, then I should think that thy would rather hold true the bonds familial - even as I do so - and take to me as kinfolk the bonds of sisterhood in the form of this one here," Anuk-su gestures to Ariarh.

"True - she is not ancient nor of imperial lineage - as I am - even so - I do not speak meanly on her bloodline because it does not stand equal to mine own. As we are sisters, I shall endure such transgressions as racial imperfections - and, therefore - I shall be the truer sister to her - tolerating any time she may fall short of draconic principles - for it is clear that as I am gifted with wisdom, so too am I gifted with great patience and love - all the easier to share with her, and from her to me, for we are - as stated; familial!"

"Therefore I say unto thee - as Master Ka'etil is not only thy blood, but thy elder kinsmen, it is thy right and duty to hearken to his will, and seek readily to obey it, or at least conduct thyself with decorum in his presence. After all - even elves know the value of family, and the respect due to the elder siblings!" she adds - her voice taught, but not overly insulting. She pushes, but only the point, and not to insult - only to remind Clari - Kae is a friend of Anuk-su, and she doesn't care to hear some "Johnny-come-Lately" bad-mouth him behind his back.... especially if it is supposed to be his little sister!

Dragons have very serious opinions about pecking order in families - and how family loyalty is dealt with... This is something that at least Clari's blade may know from Its time near dragon kindred.

Anuk-su retorts to Clari - speaking her opinion before the conversation can get too far advanced.

"Indeed, lady - we are free to engage in discourse with thee at length! Thou would know more of thy kinsmen, eh? Well - and what of it? Before we should declaim to thee - what is thy pedigree? The half-elf is our ally before thou art - and to him we owe loyalty - to thee? Nay - thou art the one that should prove thy worth to us - who art thou which should seek to take us in to thy confidence for conference?" Anuk-su retorts primly, giving the elf a cool glance, as Brett pinches his nose between his thumb and forefinger and lets out an audible sigh at Anuk-su's delightful speech.

He takes this time to instruct the apes to travel down to the coast with Shaezon and Arasmes - and asks them to make the bunk houses ready and comfortable - suggesting that they prepare a fire and possibly some tea.

The Anumus will obey Ariarh in this matter - but neither the apes nor the Anumus are eager to make fire, or stew bark or roots to prepare "tee" for Brett. Further - he senses that Anaitis refuses to travel far without him - not to be petulant - but because she feels it necessary to guard him.

That said - Brett is doing his best to keep the party away from the cursed altar and distract the apes from the rooms which were used to prepare dark scientific works on the bodies of the same apes.

"Oh gods, Ariarh - it's good to be back... this company needed a person with a good head on their shoulders, here," she adds with a wise nod.

Aye, the dragon girl I know well is back in fine form. This day had been an overly long one and Ariarh felt as if she had aged a year. Her muscles and mind ached in unison and it took all her willpower to speak with steadiness and not lash out unwittingly at any in her party. She was grateful that they made it to Anuk-su's side in time and wondered if it even registered to the young girl that the party had just fought hard and rescued her, especially since she and her silver guard rushed foolishly ahead without concern for the repercussions. Being a leader is not so easy, Ariarh, she muses privately.

Moving to stand just behind Anuk-su, Ariarh reaches out and soothingly strokes the girl's beautiful silver hair. "It is very good you are alive, little sister. I give thanks to the gods that it is so."

"Have no fear - you will be rewarded when I come into my own... Meanwhile - what is our next move, then?"

"Now - do not be overly foolish! If you seek to venture for the goods and gear - I say - nay! Rather - wait until the morn! What - are thou not some cleric - are thy not rather aligned to the deities of good? Well and good - wait then until morning - and sleep well - refreshing they spells at daybreak!"

"Meanwhile - as Mister does his job to the east - we travel west to the ruined city - and can find what we need... The bodies of the dead will rot tonight, or not - but their gear shall not dissemble during the night!"

She looks at Kae, putting her hands on her hips.

"You worry on gear - right and true, I should think - however; consider this - the place where we would be slaughtered for their dark rite? It is not merely a foul place - but unholy as well - consider this - the place where I and this Outsider would be slaughtered? It is one of dark unholiness - doubtless that is why they did not wish to advance far from their dark altar - it was unholy - if we stray too close - it may warp us with dark magic... We would be better to come back in the morning... besides, in the western mainland there is doubtless goods and gear... And, further - we may refresh our health at least by sleeping through the night..."

"But the folk on the mainland will not be slaughtered - it is worth more then the lives of the guards who remain - if they kill my brethern, they shall perish by the hands of the dark cleric and his black knights... even though he is now dead; the guards do not know it yet, and we may use that against them - if we are clever..." Anuk-su says, elbowing past you all as she pats Kae briskly on his forearm, as she adjusts the robe on her slender frame.

<Clari, you realize that you address a dragon-welp. Mind yourself, child.> Karavel chides. The others see Clari cock her head toward her hilt and let out a hiss.

She takes a breath, and asks those in the chambers, "What information can we give you regarding the south?"

Anuk-su turns a stunned look at Clari; seeing the look she is given from the now standing outsider.

Her tone of worry and frustration is instantly replaced and transformed. She gives Clari a cold look.

”Watch thy tongue! Else we two must exit these chambers forthwith – and I shall take thee to duel – blood to blood – and show thee the meaning of courtesy! If thy dare speak to me in that fashion again – know that I shall demand satisfaction. If thy cannot perform – if thy shirk from such a duty – then it shall be know that thou have no honor – and are a coward. Or – thy may simple silence thy tone – and proceed with some form of courtesy.”

”Thou art as a guest in these lands – do not forget it – or, I promise – I shall put thee to the test – and we shall see if thy can deal with blood for thy argument.”

”Do thou understand my words – or should I speak more plain?” she asks, her tone now ice.

"Hex-craft is a dangerous art, and there's so many different kinds that can be manifested that every witch is different. There's powerful sleeping hexes, those giving flight, and there's no limit to their use. A wizard or priest is neutered and impotent when they are out of magic, but a witch always has her hexes." Clari plainly states.

turning to Isani and Ariarh "Are you powerful enough to fix curses? I dont much know about taking them away, but more about placing them. It's your sort that undoes our work." as it's the religious types that get "remove curse" which would be good to have when facing a witch.

To those who have met her, Clari is surprisingly personable. She lacks the condescending gaze and contemptuous sneer that has been her default expression. It seems as though her time with Selendria has had a positive impact on her behavior...

"You are right, we did pass by there. I believe Lazurien mentioned the tower of which you speak." she says, acknowledging Isani.

"What?! You passed by this place and yet have remained silent after all of this? Speak plain then woman - we have no time for riddling words or vague references! I demand facts - hard and fast - and therefore information that can present a means for which we can act. There is far too much dallying as of now - would it I - I would already had my folk packed and on the road. I simply do not understand how no action is being taken!"

Anuk-su is quite unhappy that it seems that there is clear information on the southern lands - espied by those who had journeyed there - yet, there is no hard data being presented. She speaks in the same terse voice - not unlike a child who is being thwarted from getting her way - but it is also colored by a clear fear that every moment may count - and even as her companions were butchered by bandits for errors in the past - so, too may they be killed with some ease if no quick action was taken.

She fixes the priestess with a stern eye.

"Thou! Thou art a priestess of a goddess of good faith - where is thy tongue in these matters. Thou art here as a guest of the Empress of these lands - very well; as her guest thy should speak, and not remain silent. I do not like thy silence - it does not speak well of thee."

She turns to Ariarh -

"Lady - these two have journeyed to the south and do not share information with thee. I would say that they should speak clearly - further; I should say that if thy two are even yet in the same room - then there should be at the least words between thee - the others may take long to answer - for they are concerned with their own matters - but when these southern folk engage with thee - our leader - then I see no reason why they should be silent at all!"

Again - Anuk-su seems very upset about the delays - and is eager to move forward. She is worried that the group is discussing details slowly - and taking little action. Wise planning is one thing - but even the best plans come to naught if action is not taken...

She ponders a bit...

"Hmm... perhaps even Empress is a bit pedestrian - yet "My Master" seems somehow too... paternal - Blast! There must be a happy medium - fear not, sister - I shall discover it forthwith!"

In relation to Kae's suggestions regarding the kobolds and the Spider's Nest, "Indeed, both matters will be addressed and as Robert suggested we can make a list and look to the tasks that have the greatest precedence and work through them. For now, we must concentrate on preparing for our next quest. I need to know how many will be joining us and we require detail from our Ustalavian friends as to what we are searching for exactly. I realise we are travelling to map and make claim to lands there, but I believe there are other crucial ventures in the form of these artifacts of power our enemies seem to be seeking."

Respectfully addressing Dashan and Aliento, "Gentleman, thank you for attending to our summon so diligently. I would ask that you relay all that you know of the lands south and what items you have been tasked by your Order to find and retrieve. The more we know, the better prepared we can be."

How does one go about orchestrating such a thing? And would the nobleman even be amiable to such a union? He would have to speak with his father the Duke and gain his permission, I would think...", she draws breath trying to calm her nerves. I really need to figure out what I feel and what he feels. Anuk-su would say it does not matter as this union is political and for the sole benefit of the capital. Yet, I could not give myself unto a loveless marriage ... I cannot marry for convenience sake alone.
"There was a time before nobles. In this time the first of the soon-to-be-nobles declared themselves nobles and any who said otherwise were dealt with in one way or another. So you can get adopted, entitled, etc from one of the current nobles. Alternately, you can simply declare yousrself whatever you wish and if you have the cohorts and army to keep your title, then it is yours." Shaezon says matter-of-factly.

"Well spoken, sir," she says, after snacking a bit, and hearing Shaezon address Ariarh.

"Ariarh - I say unto thee; the time for hard choices lay before thee. Seize that which thy would, and from that grip of strength thou may wield power as thy see fit. This may seem wrong in thine eyes - yet hearken; if thy wield power with strength, it need not be evil, rather, from a good heart a wellspring of justice, mercy, piety, and compassion may flow. But none may blossom without a strong foundation - thou must put aside these self-doubts and seize what thy would - trusting in thy own virtue. Once thy do this; who cares what thou would be called? Yet, for myself - I would enjoy the title of "Empress" - it has a fine ring to it," she says with a sage nod.

Still - the point is fair. If you take power, are are in power - it matters little what title you claim, so long as you rule.

Drawing her ward near, she strokes the young girl's hair back off her face. "You are quiet, Anuk-su. Would you like to share your thoughts? I believe we should advise Sylvath and the silver kobold guard of my theory that these cultists are skulking in the shadows of our apartment and that you may be their intended target."

"Huh! Tell that to my lad Sylvath and he'll raze the town to the ground to finish the would-be assassins, methinks!" she adds with some feisty declaration.

"But nay - he is more restrained then that. Even so - thy advice is well headed. Doubtless when they are alerted a full company of folk shall be assembled under his command - and he shall advance hence will all his bretheren to seek their kinsmen."

"It shall, regretably - put the town a less defensible position - but this cannot be helped. The kobolds have sworn alliegence to my line - and through that oath I bind them to my purpose. How can I, in good conscience- refuse them that mission? Nay - once they petition me to seek out their kin - I shall not refuse, for how can I?"

She sighs a bit.

"Still - they may grow more fortunate then we - for Sylvath is a creature of action - when properly roused - and when he takes the others - as well as the squires he is training - do thy recall them? They were from the family that came from the northman who allied with the late Alaric Winter - he tried to be a paladin or knight of some sort - and his folk were to be his followers? Even still - to what end - they are without a master - and Sir Sylvath adopted them as comrades in arms - now they ride with him - and he to lead them. Surely the vastness of that company will move forward with all haste - though I regret they do not have the safety of a temple or proper healer with them - unless, of course they conscript that dwarven priest from Ustalav who is skulking about still - but, we shall see," she adds with a comfortable sigh.

"Oh yes - thy mentioned ever and again the potential for alliance with that lad you wish to ride thee? The duke's son - verily, then; take to him thy husband - as thou art now the full leader of this growing nation - thy dowry shall be worthy of him."

She muses a moment - and continues in an almost conspiratorial tone - in a voice that seems like "girl talk"...

"You were crafty to accept the position of leader of this berg for a mere six months - but do not think I cannot perceive thy true purpose! Nay - in six months time thou shall have the full backing of the people here - then, any who would try to rest the crown from thee shall be cut down if thy should prefer it - but in any case - thy shall remain queen as long as thy wish! But - as thou govern a republic - perhaps thy should call thyself "First Citizen" - as thou recall - in mine own tongue that is spoken Imperator - but, for thee I should say "Empress" has much more worth then a mere queen... But as thy now rule - the choice of title is easy for thy to create on thy own!" she adds with a knowing wink.

Anuk-su realizes others can hear her - but doesn't seem to mind. As she is snuggled up next to you - she doubts that any there would be foolish enough to gainsay their newly appointed leader - and if they do? Bah! If they observed great or intriguing mysteries - very good - I would that they share these details - so that we may bask in the knowledge the gleaned. Come then - who among you that traveled north will tell us the full tale? Or must I resort to calling in that miserable half-dwarf - that "Mul" - that has traveled with you and is no doubt engaged in merrymaking with the doxies at the bahtouse."

"Even so - he makes my skin crawl with his uncouth ways - I would know more from our staunch diplomat - or the priestess - or, at the least - our battle general - any one fo them may have observed something - even the elven wizard - they are wise it is said - come - what did you see - what did you learn - do not be afraid to share all details on these events!" As usual - Robert Tyrell looks very well dressed, fine clothes, and his weapons are on him even at this early hour. Dasha is near him, but is currently playing a game when she stacks a tall tower of neat bricks - removes a brick - and places it on the top of the tower - over and again, until the tower would fall.

"In truth - I do not know, sir," Anuk-su says, a slightly vexed look on her face.

You mentioned that we exited the swamp at midday (12pm). Ariarh's apartments are in the village and so I'm presuming it will take 5 to 10 mins to get to the apartments (?) and they spend an hour there -- bathe, change clothes, brush hair and eat a light meal/rest before leaving to speak with Adjt and then the Ustalavians. So, they would leave the apartments at roughly 1.30pm. I can adjust this if the timing is off.

"You have one of the platinum coins we found, my dear ward. Why do you hold it so tightly in your hand? What is its significance to you?", hoping to get the young girl to open up to her.

Anuk-su looks up at you, and lets out a small sigh.

”This coin – it bears the stamp of my people – long before any of you were born – it was the coin of this land. I have seen them before, I have held such things before – trinkets, or cheap baubles they may have seemed to me… yet they were tangible proof of my people’s existence. Now, they are all gone – all of them dead; even those who were given the chance to guard me, even now two of the six are dead. I am the last of my line; the only one of my people left, and though there may yet be other silver dragons in this world, there are no more folk like the kobolds that stood by my people, my allies, my companions…”

She lets out a deep sigh, but this is not her usual melodrama, she is genuinely pained.

”When I hold this coin in my hand, I ask myself – Could it be that I lay hands on such mettle as I had once touched long ago? Could I even now hold in my hand a coin that was touched and handled by kinsmen – my father, my mother – my friends? – but what of it? It is only mettle, only memory…”

She shakes her head suddenly, as if forcing herself to rouse from these self-pitying feelings.

”But no,” she stops her speech suddenly, hopping up and beginning to pace in the room.

”This cannot be so! That this coin, and any other tangible proof of my people would fall to such a mean fate as this – I do not accept it! I shall not accept it! There must be other proofs – and other evidence! Could it be that this coin came from some forgotten cache that was sequestered in some ruined hovel that those scum pilfered? Perhaps! Or – could it be more? Is it then possible that there may be other such places of refuge that housed people of mine own lineage?”

She turns to you suddenly with a fierce gleam in her eye.

”It could be so – it might be so – nay; it must be so! I cannot be the only one who was left to survive – there may yet be others – there may yet be those who still live to walk the earth, and who are under such enchantments as even I was! Lady Kane – we must now seek for such evidence – we must search as best as possible any such places that folk such as myself may yet live! This is why I would speak to Adjt, for if such a thing existed, he alone of my folk is versed in the lore enough to deem where such refuges may be kept – he may give us clues or evidence to find folk such as my own people – or even as his own! We cannot let that chance slip by our fingers – it must be pursued!”

"Yet… yet, I cannot dive forward so eagerly, even as haste is gnawing at me, so too prudence counsels patience! We cannot speak of these things openly, for it may give flame to wild rumor, and those aligned against my folk may also seek such places – for to find such things would give them powerful leverage over me and mine; and they would surely ransom that which we hold dear,” she continues, speaking almost more to herself, as she continues to pace back and forth.

You sense clearly now what she is hoping – that if she was buried in a magical sleep, with goods and gear for her hundreds of years later – is it possible that others like her are buried? If so, those very places would have such things like what she found in the cave – but that does make her hope true. For now, it is only hope… but she clings to it tightly – even as tightly as she clings to the coin itself.

Timing things is perfect – now that I know what happened, and more importantly – when it happened – I am quite content. Excellent – after you have a chance to answer her – if you chose to – she will go directly to Adjt for more details.

Okay, no worries. :)

Recognising the symbol as one she has seen on Sylvath's newly commissioned breastplate, she calls Ryul and Anuk-su over,

"Anuk-su, Ryul, we've discovered something interesting, here. If you would be kind enough to join us."

When they arrive, "See the stamp on this coin? Is it not the same as the symbol that appears on Sir Sylvath's breastplate? Is this heraldry related to your race or from your time?"

Anuk-su pushes past the others and barely gives the coins a glance – rather, her gaze is on the horn.

Her eyes stare at it for a moment, and she continues to speak to Ryul in her archaic and unintelligent form of ancient draconic, then – she looks up at you.

”I have seen such a horn before,” she says to Ariarh, reaching out her young hand, and snatching it up from the Druid.

”Verily – this horn is one as alike as those of my people’s captains used on the field of battle. Yea – it is so – mark well the runes? Do thee mark it? They are runes of Power and Great Virtue – for whosoever places this horn to lips and blow the cry of "Rally" – any ally who doth hear the sound of it shall hearken to their aid with all haste – and if any enemy prevent them from advancing to he that winds the horn – then great wrath shall fill the ally as he runs forward to aid his companion – and he shall therefore smite his enemy with a greater power because of it,” she adds.

Short Description: All allies who are able to make their Perception roll to hear the horn when it is blown are granted the effects of the Haste spell for 1d4+1 Rounds after they hear it blown. This power can be used once a day – and does not stack with the spell Haste.

The Horn grants a +2 bonus to all Perform Checks if it is being used to perform with in any capacity. You do not need to use the "Rally" cry and thus use the "haste" power to gain this +2 advantage to all Perform Checks - that is automatic, as long as you use the horn for Perform Checks.

The horn itself is made of pure mithril – magical power aside – that makes it very valuable. In total – the horn is worth about 3,500 gold pieces.

Anuk-su ponders this mystery for a moment – then, reluctantly – examines the coins.

She gasps!

”See here – this is the standard of our people – and, moreover – the coin itself is from our very lands… Could it be that other bastions of power may yet exist or be sequestered through my own kingdom in some darksome dungeon or pit as foul as this? Or – more grim – and, foresooth – more likely – could it also be that these scum may have merely pilfered the tombs of a fallen captain – and the loot they carried is evidence of that?” she asks – though you sense she is asking all – including herself.

You can all see that Anuk-su is suddenly filled with a strange hope and desire – it may be there is evidence – somewhere – in the land of her lost people – evidence of… what? Other survivors – like her? Perhaps – as these troglodyte creatures have found such evidence in the caves – if you explore the caves – you yourself may find more evidence of such things…

Yet – as you noted – the caves are extremely vast! Even now – none of you have any idea how to get out – nor where the entrance was – or where you are in relation to where you came in – nor how to find those stairs – and so exit…

Yet – exit you probably should (at some point) – or you shall end up for all time – buried alive… buried alive… with no way out…

Well – there are lots of ways out, I guess – but, it will take some doing to find them. Perhaps other things down here may give you a clue – or perhaps – they may give you something less savory!

Anuk-su is in Dragon Form – she is acting recklessly to help her friend Dior. She is no fool – well debatably) and assumes a spider is immune to most poisons – so she is actually going to try to attack it – with her claws! She has made double move so she is theoretically able to provide flanking with the elementals (when they pop in – knowing Ariarh’s plan). Her size modifier gives her huge bonus’s to hit – but you all know – even if she hits – she will be lucky to do only 1 point of damage, at best!

You all deduce – though she may love Dior and is a loyal friend to Ariarh – this chick’s nuts!

She must first make a Reflex Save of 22 to avoid the barbs – then she can attack, if she avoids the barbs.

Anuk-su’s Reflex Save in Dragon Form –

"Thou speak in riddles, lady. For myself I know only battle and glory - death and honor. She is worried about her griffon friend and begins following Brett.

In a low speaking voice, so as to not induce another round of loud echoes, "Mayhap Dior has found another way out?" There is more than a little tinge of hope laced in her question.

"Fear not sister - and do not let that son of earth and stone give thee doubt. Thy feathered friend has a stout heart and bold courage - the Black Stone shall not gainsay his mind - nor his heart - rather, he likely tacked course westward to the center of the valley; and avoideth this dark chasm which rests more centrally in the maw. Aye - I feel he would be more likely to be to the western direction," she says, gesturing forward, and slightly to the left.

"There - if I am not mistaken - he may be seeking a more apt way for those of thee who cannot take to wing and so cross this dark place. We must not loose hope in that course."

Her voice grows cold, as if she is speaking to herself.

"Aye - the darkness - it shall not avail the Black Stone - nor its mendicants. Indeed - for are we not servants of the Light and all in the hands of The Waybringer? And, as it is so - we are therefore protected by the way of Light" she adds with a reverent tone in her voice, her eyes suddenly flicking to your side a moment, before she turns and advancing forward briskly.

"Oh have it thy own way - Mistress of glen and grove, wood and leaf," Anuk-su says with a somewhat haughty wave of her hand in Ariarh's direction.

Dire - without even making a "sense motive" check you are able to see that the way Anuk-su behaves around Ariarh is not unlike a somewhat spoiled child behaves around a much beloved older sister. Though Anuk-su clearly cares for Ariarh - it seems has no desire for anyone to assume that she (Anuk-su) is other then the boss of the expedition.

"Meanwhile - it would be better if we took the advice of the small master Councilman yon," Anuk-su says waving at Brett "And adjourn this meeting to outside the home. Of a certainty this room was not crafted to house so many folk - and the air is fresh and clean besides! Come then - let us away," she adds, turning and elbowing past Brett again as she strides for the door, stopping to pause and look at you all with a look that plainly says - "Um - come on - what are you waiting for?"

”Hello then, good sir,” says the young girl with the silver hair – her violet eyes ranging quickly over Dire’s face and gear.

”Thou art a stranger in these lands – and proper introduction is both mete and true. My underlings have introduced themselves – yet it would be best to speak rather of who does protect them – and that is, of a certainty – myself,” the girl adds, her voice youthful, but her words extremely intelligent and articulate – even thou her accent is extremely archaic.

”My given name is Anuk-su Seti – of the clan Seti – and thou art a guest in my homeland. I bid thee welcome – and entreat thee to find what comforts that thou art able to discover – even as thy divest from thyself the difficulties of a long journey,” she adds, brushing by Brett and nearly knocking him over as she strides forward with an imperious advance to the front of the group.

”There are may rooms that thy may take for thy own – for a time – especially in mine own citadel on yon cliff bank – the name of which is rendered - in the vulgar' “Cloudwatch Keep” – though it is a hearty place filled with sound foundation and a good station to rest thy head and sup on crust of bread or draught of ale,” she adds, with a broad sweep of her hand behind her – that would direct your gaze to the southern cliffs, if it weren’t for the fact that you are currently inside a house!

”Well – as we are all so introduced – and as thou art consider a guest in the house of the good Grear family – I should say I am well pleased to meet thee, for they have a high reputation in these lands.”

Um - yeah - you guys may or may not realize that the issue has already been decided by the council.

To refresh - each member of the council is rotated each month - by fiat of the council.

This took a rather long time to decide among the players - but the decision was made a long time ago. I know it, and am eager to see that played out properly.

One other thing...

Remember too - the two least important things to think about when you play the game, and run the kingdom - in order of least important - to REALLY least important are -

1. Character Class (fairly unimportant).
2. Stats/skill ranks (REALLY unimportant).

As for why? Well - to clarify - as Forest Gump said "Stupid is as stupid as does".

You're not going to be able to settle the majority of things by just "rolling dice" - most the problems will take your own personal level of thinking, writing, creativity and how you want to solve things. In other words - if you have all 30's in your stats - and are on 30th level - you still might be a terrible king/queen depending on how you play it out.

And if you have all 12's and are on level 7 - never mind what class - you may be the best leader in the game (especially if you are Halfling -ahem ;)

It's all about if you are able to out and make things happen really awesome, no matter what your stats are. They just help you execute the method of what you are actually doing.

So - just something to remember when you play out the game. No matter how hot your character is on paper - if you don't do things with those details - if you don't play them out - it really won't matter in the long run.

Just saying...

"Poltroon! What matter of land is this to bow to a mere king or queen when the presence of She who may yet become an Empress is inevitable? Thou may lay aside my awesome powers, my imperial lineage, my splendid heritage - indeed - never mind all of that, for - I am, as they do say in the modern vernacular - Super cute!."

Ariarh listens to Brett's instruction and nods her head in the affirmative. She is still eager to hear from Kae in regard to his exact connection to Grishnak and the animal bloodsport, but she would wait until they had all returned by evening and regathered. There's is much I do not know and I do not like it, she thinks.

Looking down toward Anuk-su, she speaks candidly, "I do not think it would be wise for you to accompany me to the cultist camp. That there are some now who directly worship Apsu and revere you for your rank and race, it may prove an obstacle when speaking with the leaders of this new religion. Do you understand, little princess sister?" Her eyes have a kindness when she looks upon the little dragon-girl, her ward. She knew that if Anuk-su insisted on coming along, there wasn't much she could do to sway or deter her. Yet, the child was under her protection and she had to do right by her.

Turning her gaze back to the Holbyt, "Brett, I don't think it wise that I should go alone to this cultist camp. I am unknown to them as they are to me. I would prefer an escort or guard, either is fine. I was thinking of Henry Ironhorse as a good escort. He is versed in religion, being his wife is a minor priestess, and he is handy with a weapon and strange things I am sure. Do you have any other suggestion regarding an escort or guard? Of course, I will take Dior with me. I do need to speak with Mistress Patty but I would see these leaders sooner rather than later. There are a number of people I could speak with, hear their thoughts and feelings regarding the occurrences and disruptions of late. I will go and quickly freshen up first and then be on my way down to the village."

Whilst Lady Sylvianya Turon is still present in the chamber,

"Lady Turon, could you tell me where I would find this camp? Or is there someone who could show me the way?"

”Bah – I shall not waste my time with these foul cultists – rather, I shall instead head directly to the Banks’s Home – for they are goodly folk and their hearth is the warmer for a fine meal, which they shall, no doubt - provide. Next, thy shall likely find amusement where thy may – with this foul cult, as some have named it; or thy steed to ride, in the form of the man-flesh called Esserian, if thy please,” she adds, making what passes as a “joke”, and giving you a knowing - but completely obvious to anyone who understands her joke – wink at her "clever witticism".

”However, as it seems that thou art likely to secure guard from Ironhorse, and his folk – I shall then insist on further guard for thee – in the form of one of my minions – Glaidus should do – for he is more impressive then any of my people in physical bulk, though he does fall short in the natural grace and carriage of Sir Sylvath, never mind our good Sir Dashan.... Nevertheless – under the worthy presence of Glaidus, and the presence of the head of the Ironhorse clan - should thy be accompanied by both of these two at thy side – thy shall look well, I deem, and, moreover, be safe under the guard of trusted men. Yet – if thy would insist on having uniform guards as befitting thy rank – that can easily be brought to thee also, at the Banks’ house, as well – I should think. Thy need only send messages to the camp of that half-elf barbarian - his own troops may look more "formal" for thy diplomatic negotiations - though I am not sure as to the nature of their competency, as compared to the man Ironhorse - and mine own folk as well. However - I shall allow thee all freedom in the choice of who thy thy should choose to guard thy life” Anuk-su says with an overly magnanimous - and melodramatic - broad wave of her hand.

”After this is all over – it may be wise for us to then return to our own home – I would see it well and true – for it is long sense I slept in my own chambers amongst my own possessions,” she adds, sweeping to her feet and leading you and Dior from the chambers.

As you leave, Lady Turon gives you the directions to the tent where you can find the chief of these cultist – his name, as the people call it – is Hadad, of the House al-Kazeem. You recognize the location of his tent to be roughly in a place where the southerners congregate and live – it is also close by to Grishnak’s folk – and not far from the Bounty Hunter’s guild. You ponder this as you plan for your guard duty, and who you feel would be best to take.

Ariarh calls out to her other companions, seeking reinforcements for the cave exploration.

Ariarh notices Arasmes stand and the dark expression on his face draws her attention but she pushes it to the side for a later time when she can ask him what pains him so. She was tired, yet Anuk-su was right -- they could not assume they, and this land, were safe simply because they had slain and disposed of the forest drake and her followers. And, she was worried about Brett. It had been some time since she saw the Holbyt last.

Stirring from her private musings, Ry looks over her shoulder and addresses the party behind her, "Let us finish this."

Seeing your enthusiasm to "finish this" - Anuk-su might have otherwise agreed with your sentiment, instead, she merely turns and says to you:

"Come on! I said there is no time to explain such matters, we must hurry now! It is far too important to delay and take the time to explain further," she adds, running back to grab you by your arm and pulling you along, even as Dior squawks in surprise at her action as she fairly tugs you along.

You are still not sure why she has managed to find the time to explain that "there's no time to explain" - but can't simply use the time to simply explain to you! You make a mental note - no... Scratch that, you slip out a scrap of parchment and jot it down physically so there is no chance to forget -

- Note to self: BRING DRACONIC WAR MANUAL - AND READ IT! Also, talk to Patty and Selendria about tips raising and dealing with little girls - they may have some suggestions as well! -

You stuff the parchment back in your satchel even as you jog after her, vaguely aware that Dior seems to be making sounds that sound disquiet-tingly like little snarffy chuckles; but when you look his way, he quickly turns his head and has a very contrite look on his little face.

Turning to look behind her, she calls out with a somewhat impatient tone -

"Bah - thy add the sum far too slowly!"

"Come now - count with alacrity and do not dawdle like an old woman on washing day else we shall not see what needs be seen sooner, but rather, later!" she adds with frustration.

Ariarh - you can sense whatever it is she wants you to see - she is acting like a much more articulate six year old who really wants you to drop everything and run over and see what she has to show you, instead of simply just saying what it is.

"And bring the others, if thy would - what there is to see - it is far too interesting and important to explain at this time - rather, we must go!" she adds.

You wonder if, in the time that she informed you that there was "no time to explain" such things - why she couldn't use the same time to say there was no time - she could have just explained it instead? Hmmm... this seems odd - no doubt there will be more such insight in how to deal with such creatures while reading the Draconic War Manual...

After several moments of continuing with your current actions, Anuk-su comes running over to Ariarh and grabs her sleeve.

”Put up this foolishness. What? Oh – apologies, for a moment I counted thee wise in the ways of warfare; though this is surely not the case. However - is it not said - Do not count thy enemy dead until thy have seen the body; but even then thy may be in error… Aye, indeed! For surely an enemy may live on to fight thee with his reputation, even though he died a martyr, yet I spoke in haste,” she adds with a wave of her hand, somewhat out of breath.

”In certainty I meant that before we should count the battle finished we should fully explore the rest of this temple – there may be more threats to discover… Of a certainty Brett has discovered more beyond the altar yonder. Come - come see,” she adds, pulling on Ariarh’s arm.

Ariarh is free to follow; even while the others are free to do what they wish.

Arasmes, did you take any of these potions when Ariarh was offering them to the group back at Saravale? I don't remember seeing a post. Sorry.

Ariarh - you see Anuk-su shudder visibly at Sir Dashan's words to her, and you can see her trembling slightly as he he barks out his orders at you all - as if he is a captain and you are all soldiers under his command.

You give her a worried look - for you know he was especially stern with her - and his words were not friendly.

You see that she has closed her eyes somewhat and has hugged her arms tightly around her chest, and you lay your hand on her shoulder, asking her in a hushed whisper if she is alright.

Private Response to Ariarh - yeah, another one (:

"I think I better understand what thou meant about the supposed rewards of emotions," she says, looking up at you with wide eyes.

You are somewhat surprised, expecting her to be hurt, or depressed at what he said, and you say so to her!

"How so? He spoke the truth, as thou no doubt observed! He was right - I was acting poorly, but did thy mark it well? He treated me not as a child - but as one of thee equally - to him I may as well be an ally, not a burden. And, moreover - his chastisement was fair and just. Perhaps he was correct, also - in that we have been arguing on the very doorstep of a place of strife - whatever dark forces that exist within that mist - they may be reaching out to sully our mood and heart! Yet, did thy mark him - he rallied us - he moved us - a bold man, grim and true - a man of action, and a stern will besides!"

She glances back into the mist, suddenly tugging at your sleeve.

"Come on - thou hast heard him - fell deeds await - we cannot tarry. I must join him on the quest," she says, urging you to hurry.

As you follow she turns a beaming face toward you.

"His presence, his charisma, his force of will - his mannerisms - oh Ariarh - would that I were older and stronger - I would let him ride me until he collapsed from exhaustion," she fairly gushes about her "hero" and how he acted; his blunt manner, and his courtesy - his critique and his kindness; but most of all his passion and his courage.

You recall the true meaning of the euphemism she used, though - and nod knowingly, remembering her evaluation of Sir Dashan and his actions -

Yes, this is certainly not a sexual thing to the young girl when she saw the man acting this way; but a dragon thing...

Although...

Anuk-su turns and looks at Arasmes, her eyes narrowing - the lavender colors inside shine like slivers of ice. Even though she is in human form, you can hear her hiss like a dragon might...

It is quite startling...

"Thou... and all thy many secrets... How many more would thy keep from us, and what is thy true purpose here," she says flatly to Arasmes, yet you can all sense the question is meant rhetorically.

Then she looks at Ariarh and speaks in Draconic - not caring if Qwykee or Arasmes can hear this or not.

In Draconic:
"Thou has already chastised me once for undue action with thy comrade when he revealed his true form in the council chambers - Very well, I shall therefore not strike now, even inasmuch as I am acting against my wont - for no doubt it would be considered lowly in thine eyes; as I count thee like a sister, I shall not wound thy feelings on this matter. Yet I share with thee this wisdom - if thou would permit me: Thy may judge a man best by the friends he keeps... Thou has brought this person into our midst - I do not trust him - and each day I see more reason to trust him less... What, therefore, shall he conjure next? On such guesses I shall remain silent. Indeed, I shall keep, then, my true thoughts in the very vault of my private heart, so they do not sully the feelings of any others - But of those thoughts I shall only now say that thy keep allies who I do not trust."

After her words, she gives Ariarh a long look - as if to reinforce her words - but she does nothing except watch the young druid with a flat expression, gauging how she takes this statement, and waiting for a reaction.

Finally, she says aloud to Ariarh, in the Common Tongue so that any may hear...

"If he betrays us - any of us - then he shall die, I swear it," she adds.

Looking at Arasmes, "I once asked you to call me Ariarh or Ry and I stand by that request, Arasmes." Ariarh nods and smiles kindly.

"The fey at the Fairy Nest know Brett and I, or at least have seen us once before. We have had tea with them, so they may grant us an audience, with the right kind of offering, of course."

Looking down at the silent Anuk-su still lying in her lap, she gently asks, "Anuk-su, dear one, what you do think about our idea with the Fey? Did your dragon folk ever come across the Dark Fey or the old gods?"

Diplomacy with Anuk-su: 1d20+9

Anuk-su says nothing for a time, contenting herself with having her hair stroked, and looking up to the sky, watching the sun recede and the springtime stars begin to shine.

”I have heard tales of things – but they are not gods, and to call them “gods” – old or otherwise – is a blaspheme to the true collection of divine beings,” she adds with little emotion.

”Such things are the essence of – what one may suggest – pure power. Yet in the absolute sense – for they, in their existence – are filled with such power that if a mortal seeks to pursue them – then the mind of the mortal shall be broken. Indeed – as a name may call forth a being from another place – so to it is said that to speak the name of these Ancient One’s is a conjuring of power itself. Any who would utter such words, even the word of a name – no doubt speaking such a name would invoke the sliver of such power… And the consequences would be ill indeed, I should think,” she adds.

”In this matter Adjt is more learned then I – he has said once that mortals flutter about such powers like a moth doth cling to flame – it draws avarice – ever to draw nearer to such power – yet, if one moves too close, even as the lust for it may grip the creature – then, like the moth – the flame shall consume it and it shall perish.”

”If thou would speak on such things openly then thy have, perhaps, already lost thy wits - more then this I shall not say, for it is not my place. But for myself I should offer this wisdom, such as it is – if the gods themselves cannot unmake such power as them that are called the “Ancient Ones” – and they who should try to are yet gods – how then should mortals dare dabble with such things with chance of success?”

She lifts herself somewhat, propped on an elbow and turns a cool expression on Arasmes.

”To pursue them is to lead thee to madness – it is therefore worse to begin a journey that has a foul ending – mark it well and remember. Else thy, and others – shall find that such pursuits will be – of a certainty – thy undoing,” she adds, then lays her head back down.

She considers the stars for a while – and raises her right hand to trace small patterns in the heavens.

Anyone with a Knowledge: Nature can “Take 10” – and discover she is actually tracing constellations absently.

She then considers the matter of the Fey creatures before answering; specifically the concepts of battle between them and the Ancient Ones.

”Adjt knows much of that lore – but I do not – only this; before this land was peopled with mortals their were beasts and birds – and for millennia they enjoyed these lands in peace, free of the trials of Men – when Men came the Fey folk receded – into a hidden twilight – unseen, but in small and shrinking groves, orchards, or other such places…”

”Yet it is said that not all were eager to leave with joy – and that many places where the woodlands were once lush and bountiful – filled with mirth and magic- there was strife amongst the kinfolk who lived there. There were great battles then – between the Fey – some preferring to leave the world to Men – while the others hating the coming of Men and were greedy to keep the earth for themselves – and through their hate they became twisted, darkened and evil – their hate and greed, and lust for power – as well as their need to have things on their terms – and in their terms only they would prevail. Their war – this war between the goodly folk of wood and glade – the Fey and their own kin – came from those who saw the greater good was in strife and knew that they must give way to the dominion of Men and their arrival – while those that wished for the world to function as they saw it – these Dark Fey who wished the world to move thus as they perceived best… Such folk were inflamed by their dark designs and did war on each other…”

She watches the clouds in the sky for a while, saying little.

”But such tales are best told by those who know them best – and I do not,” she adds with a little shrug.

”As for finding the Fey at the Faerie nest?” she adds to Ariarh.

”In such an endeavor I would think thy efforts would fail,” she says bluntly.

”The Fey thy mentioned seem to be those who cloak themselves in shadow – content to hide from Men – and are not concerned with the ways of Men – nor pursuing a war with their kindred. They would, it seems to me – rather hide then fight. Further – it seems to me – that thou art on a strict schedule – to delay – if but a day or so – could be dangerous – for we do not know the need to be at the temple on such an auspicious day – but I should gather that it would be best not to dally…” she adds.

Then she makes herself more comfortable, and simply stares at the stars.

Anuk-su’s Private Response:

Anuk-su looks up at you with an impatient glance.

”Fine – he is not thy man,” and mutters something under her breath in Draconic which you think sounds suspiciously like - And he won’t be with that attitude!

But, as she has not said that directly, and you are not entirely sure what she did say – you have little latitude to chastise her.

”Then thy should read more books,” she adds with a huff about your desire to avoid marrying elderly folk for the lack of pressure it would afford you ”For it is a common theme in all details of marriage and binding that females take a mate for the advantage it provides to their House. Security – stability – and so forth… If they married for love, they would be granted only that – and love does not feed the bellies of thy children, nor does it keep thy House secure. And though it is a fine sentiment – it seems to me that the strength of one’s House is important the selfish needs to find love – even inasmuch as it could compromise thy House – simply because it is preferable. A noble must take on many responsibilities – even as males are oft forced to go to war, and lead men in battle when their lives may be ended – simply to provide for the good of their House – so too females must do also make hard choices – like choosing a mate who is best for the House – even if our heart says otherwise,” she retorts sulkily.

And – did I not say to do both? Take thee for husband a man to advantage thy House – all laws and stories I have heard teach as this – for what is marriage but a tool to cement two separate families into one for the legal division of wealth and property? As for love? Thy need no “ceremony” to bind to another thy heart. If thy espy one that thou would love – then share thy live with them – marriage should not matter in such a venture as love – unless thou become with child… and then that is another matter left to the contract of he who you are bound to,” she mutters, her tone annoyed and a little hurt at your - to her - very confusing chastisement.

Ariarh would know that Anuk-su is not currently talking about Dragon marriages here – but pretty much the majority of marriages, instead. This concept of “marrying for love” is relatively new and unheard of – the protection and safety of the House was paramount in such a world as this – and marriage was an effective tool to cement the strength of the House. More then that – love is a tale for the bards to sing on – and is quite unique to her, and – Ariarh would suspect – the majority of anyone with money or power. If they married for love alone –very quickly they would be without that money or power – such thoughts are one’s that people have when they have nothing to lose when they marry, except perhaps a broken heart.

As the nature of your words shift toward the end of the conversation, she seems to consider your last statement. Her eyes light up at this point and she seems quite excited – you sense this excitement comes from knowing you may share some private secret with her – and are effectively “bonding” better with her – taking her into your confidence, as it were.

”Ah yes – of course, these ah… profound delights? I would know more of them…” she looks ahead to the others, seeing they are still well out of earshot.

”Therefore – tell me – what are the nature of these delights that thy have spoken of? I know the delights of hunting, taking a beast to the ground, and feasting on their flesh – for this in my nature. I once said this to the others, and Glaidus suggested that my assessment of the delights of a dragon and mating were nearly one and the same – though, of course, Sylvath halted that conversation,” she adds with a frown.

”But – we too are females – surely thy know more on this matter then thou has hinted at? Good! Share then with me thy knowledge – I would know more – for it seems then to me that folk such as we must conduct ourselves as proper ladies – and where should I be if, at the moment of embrace or a kiss – I knew not the next method to proceed? Er… that is to say… of course, I do know the next method, clearly! But, ummm… well; that is to say – I should find it interesting to thy own, er… technique – in discovering these strategies.”

She looks up at you eagerly – hoping that you’ll share the secret “news” regarding these supposed “intimate details”. You can Sense right away that she is very curious now – especially as your hints of “profound delights” promise at subtle mysteries and the chance to discover secret pleasures…

She eagerly awaits your comments.

In response to question one about “Dragon Love”: Dragons are, of course, reptiles. They do not mate or breed as humans do. The female dragon will give birth to eggs which the male will seed – even as reptiles do. They do not engage in sexual activity like mammals – specifically humanoid mammals.

However – dragons, like Anuk-su for example – do not always remain in their Draconic form. Many of them use magic and other such spells to alter their appearance, so that they can better blend in with others. You’ve seen the power of this spell with Anuk-su. She has all the marks of a typical mammal – hair, for example, and you have seen that she shivers when cold – for her body temperature rises and falls like a mammal – you have seen her sweat when she is warm – for she is possessed with sweat glands, like a mammal. All of this points to the fact that a Dragon – while in this form – assumes all the elements of the race they’ve magically become – and you presume this would include reproductive functions as well.

Your mind flashes back to stories of some Sorcerers having “Dragon Blood” in them – and the pieces suddenly fit. It seems to you, then – that if a dragon – for example – took on a human form – they could find a human mate and make love that mate as a human would. The joining, because it was linked to the “spell-like” essence of the dragon would appear, you would guess, for the most part like a human – though you believe the offspring would have substantial powers that typical humans would never enjoy – very probably longer life, greater connection to magic, greater strengths and endurance and so forth… But it clearly poses an interesting theory.

If Dragons enjoy no sexual intimacy with their own kind – no practical passion or spirited desire – and they wish to discover these things – it is not too hard to imagine that a Dragon would find a creature that it has a bond with – magically transform itself into a similar creature – and then bond with that creature in a profound way.

Logically – this makes very good sense – specifically regarding Anuk-su’s opinion of lovers. After all – why should a dragon care if their formal “wife” or “husband” dallied with a human? The offspring would inherit nothing – such an offspring would be no “dragon” - no contender for any inheritance– and, as dragons were rumored to be very practical in matters of wealth and treasure – surely the need to have a very strong House (something Anuk-su has had hammered into her – and now you are sensing why that is important – to a dragon, that is paramount) – but as for love? Well - it seems likely that their own species isn’t really mentally equipped to handle such feelings as passion or desire, at least, not very well – therefore you'd guess that a dragon will look to “warm-blooded” animals to learn the emotion of “love” – and often they will find such a creature – take it as a lover- stay true to it as lover until that creature dies – it is very rare for any mammal to be able to outlive a dragon – and such trysts often occur with dragons through their entire life.

Perhaps this is one reason Anuk-su is so eager to be constantly in human form as child - her "little girl" side craves love and attention - but her "dragon" side doesn't know how to get it, or how to properly process such emotions. Her dragon side would be too detached, too logical - too "practical" to understand basic emotions very well - even if the child is craving them. Of course this explains her desire to behave like and act like a human - and it also explains her continued aloofness and somewhat cold distance with logic and emotion. As a dragon - she simply has not learned to bridge that gap, yet, and is clearly looking to humans, and you - for the methods of how things are done. You see that she is not simply a child without a family - but child that is starting to have emotions - but does not know how to properly process them... This gives you interesting clues on how to deal with her psychology, perhaps...[/b

[b]As for having emotional or physical attachments? Are they mere flings? You doubt it. Even a friendship with a dragon would probably last a long time, once attached. You recall, though, that dragons “mate” for life – it is likely that while their “lover” lives – they will remain faithful… In other words – if Anuk-su took Sir Dashan as a lover – and they appeared the same age (if she was, in dragon years – a young adult) – then in the next sixty years or so – as Sir Dashan aged and eventually became an old man – you sincerely believe Anuk-su would remain loyal to him until he died – even if he appeared as an elderly man – and she appeared as a young adult girl. But then – dragons age much slower then humans – therefore – this can be expected.

You ponder this information somewhat before answering Anuk-su, naturally…

Now – on to the second question: This answer is almost obvious to you, at this point. You recall reading – in ancient days, when dragons were more numerous – that there often entire orders of knights – not unlike Horsemen – but instead of horses they rode on the backs of dragons. Such a thing was helpful in battle – because even though dragons were more powerful and calculating – their knightly rider typically provided useful elements in combat. The fiery passion of humans, for example, to juxtapose with the cool calculations of a dragon – could often give unlooked for advantages in such combats. Over time the dragon would very often develop a bond with the rider.

Though it was difficult to define this bond – it was not sexual (though it could become so, in time) – but it was more literally a bond between dragon and rider – the kind of bond that develops between two beings that are forced to rely almost exclusively on each other in battle – to put their very lives in the hands of their ally – and to completely trust their ally in all things. The innuendo of having someone “ride you” – from a dragon – was, again, not sexual. It referred exclusively to that bond – it referred to the bond that occurred between two individuals who loved each other as friends, comrades – even as siblings might – such a bond was almost equal to family to dragon kind – and, very often, sexual relations did occur between the dragon and the rider – and this seemed very logical, in retrospect.

You feel then – that when Anuk-su hinted that someone “ride you” or that you could “ride them” – she was referring to the fact that you could formulate this sort of bond. The bond that was more then love for friends, almost equal to family – and very often the foundation for – to dragons – the beginnings of a potential “romantic” attachment. You understand now that she wasn’t being crude when she said that before – it was mere “dragon slang” – if you will – that hinted at her excitement for you to have the chance for one of these men to have such a special bond with you. Again – to a girl like Anuk-su – the theory of sexual intimacy in such a gesture would not be mentioned or considered – but all young dragons would know of such a bond – between a dragon and a rider – it was a common theme in their children’s stories – as well one that functioned as a prelude to romance for them when they aged. Therefore – when she says this to you – you sense that, if she were perhaps a "pre-teen" (in human terms) it would be no different then if she would say to you “maybe he’ll be your boyfriend!’ – yet without the potential of sex – though of course, the possibility of some mysterious physical intimacy – but then again, this is not uncommon with the dragon and their rider.

You also consider this part of what Anuk-su was suggesting – and realize she was, her own little way – rooting for you to have a “rider” and all that implied – and, probably – no more then that implied.

Private Conversation with Ariarh and Anuk-su:

Anuk-su frowns a bit at this statement, as if considering your words and suddenly realizing what you said was very probably true.

”Oh, blast! Thou art right – I assume. But thou must admit this Sir Dashan carries himself well – a man of action, like the man Delain that thy fancy. Further, he is a goodly man; he treats all with courtesy, honor and decency, and is loyal to his friends besides.”

She looks up at you with her wide lavender eyes.

”Now then – do not attempt to deceive me in this matter – for I know it to be true – thou art no friend to the half-elf who does ride with Sir Dashan. Mark this, though – I have read his soul – he is not an agent of darkness, this Tyrene Aliento. Nay, he is a gray matter between the white of good and the black of evil – say for him that he is, rather, a neutral presence. Perhaps it was this that kept him from taking the true ritual of knighthood even as the lad Sir Dashan did? But in either case, it is a certainty that folk of any species may be goodly or evil – or somewhere in between – yet where their true heart is can be unclear at times, yes? For even goodly folk can be pompous and irritating, while we have both observed that evil folk especially have mastered the fine art of subtle courtesy and gentle manners.”

While you consider the somewhat ironic nature of the last part of her words, you notice she is instead pondering something for a bit. Thinking a little, she then continues to speak - mostly on her final thoughts on the matter.

”Adjt taught me that very generally it is the evil folk, at least, the intelligent ones - who are often most especially courteous – while goodly folk tend to be more… rough in manners? Adjt suggests this is because in a court filled with such evil folk that any person who offends the honor of another, even by accident, may discover later poison in their cup or a knife in their back... Adjt says that in places filled with evil folk - who are wise, not mere barbarians - that one can always observe fine manners. Indeed; he has told me that the veil of goodly manners in such dens of inequity are as a shield may be – for such methods of great courtesy and genteel manners can often function as a tool to hide one's true motives. Aye indeed - in such places one must always look to the pretended alliance, the hidden agenda, and indeed - the gentle words that are as a mask - so that one may lull an enemy into complicity even as a snake who doth hiss and sway before it strikes...”

’Consider thy friend Brett? If he were surrounded by folk that were evil, ready to kill over honor or ruthlessness; why then - his very carriage, and indeed - his method of speech, if not his words alone - these would have led to his death long ago. Yet this "Brett" he has been inducted into a court of high esteem, if he is in fact a sword-brother to thy man Delain... Now, I wonder, then, if our ally - this "Brett" - yes, I wonder often if his rough words and base manner of speech are not a result of his efforts to throw aside the cheats of “courtly manners”. Indeed! He often says he shall - Speaks plain or he prefers to - Be blunt, for that be the best way - now, do not mistake me! They are his words, not mine, as thou know it to be true,” Anuk-su says, doing an excellent job of mimicking Brett’s voice ”but now I think, could this be of a purpose?"

"This Brett - he was slaved once, I’d gather, though he would surely deny it - yet even so, he certainly admits from hailing from the lands of Cheliax – where the lords of that dark land do drape their fist with a velvet glove - simply to better mask the their efforts to strangle freedom, and this "velvet glove" - it is best hidden under the guise of "rules of law and etiquette" – or so the histories tell us on the people of Cheliax… Therefore, perhaps thy friend Brett - could it be that his words are mere posture - and he seeks to prove to all – and thus himself – that he is not so seduced with the charms of courtly life? Aye indeed, such talk from him shows all folk who see him that he is a person who speaks his mind bluntly, and without fine words or speeches – and perhaps this is because those are the vices which are often used in his homeland - where the lords there are overtly versed in fine manners - and may ways of speech to as a mere cloak to cover the cheats of their true motives… Indeed - he certainly shows no love for fine speeches, nor even a vested interest in codifying laws for the very land her purposes to govern - as if shying away from such actions - as though he finds such intentions somehow dishonest or distasteful... But, who can say what is in his heart?” she adds.

You ride for a moment, pondering this insight.

”Now, I am no expert on the histories and orders of court," Anuk-su says after a brief time "Though it is true - Sylvath has taught me much on matters of honor and nobility – but his words are laced rather with duty and heraldry. But if thy would learn more - well... for a true teacher I do oft converse with Adjt – for his wisdom is vast, and he is learned in ancient history – even when we were young – though of course for thee his knowledge of history would be far older and more ancient – yet he is also a student of philosophy, religion, the arcane, among other things… Verily, he would be a good tutor for thee on such matters, should thy wish it, for he is well versed in lore, and an excellent instructor besides - being a goodly sort filled with much patience and understanding of deep matters,” Anuk-su says, looking up at you with a helpful expression.

Then, she turns to look up at the others who are moving farther ahead. You kick your horses flanks then, urging them a bit faster to keep up, yet remain some distance and for a while you each say nothing, contenting yourself to simply ride for a bit in silence.

”Now – I see thy concern for the matters of marriage and honor – as well as the matter of heart,” she says finally coming back to Sir Dashan, clearly giving voice to what it was she was thinking about all this time.

”But art thou being overly concerned for nothing? Thou art a lady of quality – and moreover, I see one with fire in her spirit – canst thou then take what thy wish and claim for thyself all that thou would have besides? Indeed, yes, I say! For we too are both such ladies, I deem," she adds, and you find it both awkward and completely in character for this six year old child to suggest that you are both equal - claiming you are both such ladies - who, no doubt, are equal in experience, wisdom and understanding, despite the fact that she has had less then a few months to even enjoy the experience of the world she is now living in now, no matter what her former education may be.

Nevertheless, she makes this bold statement with a completely innocent expression - she is not bragging, you sense, but seems to either believe it to be true - or is trying to convince herself it is true.

Seeing your perplexed look, though, at what she meant about - "taking what you wished and claiming all that you want besides" - she sighs in some frustration and shakes her head.

”To be “blunt” then – Verily - marry a lord of high standing and power – use the marriage to produce for thyself all that thy would need: a strong house that will therefore, with the marriage, become wealthy, well-connected and powerful – and thus a great boon to thy nation! But, do then as the bards have said, for of course I am well read in matters regarding such things – though I did disobey my elder's request somewhat when I dallied into the study of such texts – but never mind; take then the husband thy would have for all those advantages and more – but then, take for thyself a mortal… blast, what is the word… take for thyself a mortal lover? Yes, that is the word – lover. Take for thyself a lover and then thy shall have both! Thou will have the power of a strongly aligned house and, further – thy shall be able to have the warm embrace of a lover. And of course - when he is thy lover thy shall be free to ride him hard and long - even to thy heart’s contentment, and, when thy are more private with him – he is free to do other things to thee, eh?” she says the last with an overly obvious wink and knowing nod – as if she is very well schooled in this matter.

”For if this Delain fellow tugs thy heartstrings so - yet is not of full and goodly power to ally thy nation with, what of it? Make him thy lover – and meanwhile – take to thy trothplight a man of high power. Now, I have heard that the bards say it be best to make such a man who would be married to thee far advanced in age – for they are generally more wealthy, closer to death for thee to inherit their power – and are at the last less likely to press thee with the need for amorous advantages, for age supposedly withers such needs - thus thou art given even greater freedom to take such things from thy… thy lover?” she adds with a wide smile.

Then, looking up, she looks at your appalled face at this suggestion and listens to your words on the matter.

She listens patiently to your inevitable question - namely what exactly she seems to think “Amorous Advantages” really are – and looks at you somewhat perplexed, not sure why you would bother to even ask, and also seems clearly confused as to what you would even mean by asking her this question at all.

”Ah – yes – in this matter I was not fully schooled – Adjt being somewhat less then forthcoming on such subjects of study for some reason – yet… If I should guess… I would presume it would be what all lovers would do within the privacy of their own boudoirs; namely… namely… kissing… and things…” she adds, her usual confident arrogance nearly disintegrated when discussing this topic.

Clearly she has no idea what these very same “Amorous Advantages” that she was discussing may really be – only a little girl’s guesses based on what she may have spied actual lovers doing in public – kissing, holding hands, embracing - that sort of thing.

You realize then several things.

Firstly, dragon folk have a completely different approach to marriage and giving birth to children. This much is quite clear.

For more on this matter toss up a Knowledge: Nature check – the higher the roll the better the results.

Secondly, you have heard Anuk-su mention “riding” several times. By now you have a guess this is not meant to be used a crude sexual vernacular – but what exactly she means – that you do not know…

Luckily you can know, and quite easily – but to do so you must roll a Knowledge: History check – or, if you don’t have that – you may roll a Knowledge: Nobility Check – though the DC will be higher. Also – depending on how well you did with your “Knowledge: Nature” check, if you roll it – that will offer some “synergy bonus” for this roll.

Next – for all her fine words on “lovers and marriage” you are instantly reminded by the final part of her conversation that, in fact, Anuk-su is a little girl who has really no such proper or formal education on what "Amorous Advances" - and other such experiences - really are, except, of course, what she clearly has read in books – watched in plays (and most likely guessed about) – and of course what she heard about around the campfire from a bunch of rough-riding male warriors, who naturally discuss such thing in crude innuendo around her - not being as foolish to be so overt - but clearly - they do discuss it, and it is likely their innuendo has merely compounded the problem for her.

It is enough for her to know that ladies do "Amorous Things" with men - that men take "lovers" and do these things (what these things are, though - she clearly has no idea), and that fashionable ladies; ladies of the court, noblewoman, and other important and renown people will often take "lovers" and do these mysterious "things" to each other - things that are hinted at, but never actually discussed.

Therefore - a true noblewoman of high renown (such as her) - would naturally pursue these things, too - because, of course - it's what all true noblewomen do! After all - one may simply listen to a bawdy song in a bar with a bunch of knights and warriors with too much mead in the belly - or even watch a romantic play where such things are not shown - but only hinted at - and a young girl may assume that is the proper thing to do. Even if she has no idea what that thing to do is...

Also, by now you know her well enough to know that she is someone who thinks very highly of herself – and this includes especially her wisdom and knowledge - not to mention her place in the world. Therefore - you “have a hunch” that if she doesn’t actually know something – she takes what knowledge she has, guesses about the meaning – and then “fakes it” – pretending she clearly knows everything about the topic – even though she really doesn’t.

Next – she definitely knows a lot about court politics and matters of intrigue, and so on – but she herself admits that though you could learn from her – there might be others who could be better teachers, such as Adjt.

But finally - you also sense that she is a little girl who has been, essentially, surrounded by a collection of males who function like “older brothers, fathers and uncles” and therefore her entire knowledge of how to treat a “lady”, or even act like one, is born from their education (you recall her plans for how to raise any daughter you may have - sword play, blood sports, and so on - this is what the males, especially warriors - would have taught, even by accident, for it is all they know... In fact, she never really learned to behave in way that was contrary to this - indeed, she has no living parents or relatives and her entire set of tutors are tough, soldierly types).

You then conclude that having an older sister would probably be a good learning experience for her – and, if you can survive it, it may really help her to become everything she thinks she is.

With all this in mind, you then consider your response to her...

Feel free to toss up any of the above mentioned rolls during your response too - if you are interested in more information on the topic. You can take a "10" on them - but not a "20" - though I should add it will probably not reveal much of anything. Your base DC is 15 - the higher the better. Good luck!

Female Silver Dragon My Level of Class is unmatched by any and all!

Anuk-su’s response to Ariarh:

Anuk-su encourages you to ride toward the back of the party for this private conversation. Despite your words, you can see that most of her attention seems to be directed on Sir Dashan – who is bouncing up and down on his saddle as he rides.

You can see Anuk-su’s eyes as you talk – she is listening, but it seems clear that she is thinking ”That saddle is having all the luck!”

”Firstly, lady – it is only right and natural that thy would be honored to have me as the aunt of thy family – and make no mistake –thou would have full matronly rights to dictate terms on how you govern your brood; in this I know full well my place, and would never tread upon the toes of a mother in governing her young – yet, as Aunt – I would teach your daughters, and sons too, the skills that you are perhaps less versed in? In this way I can compliment your abilities by teaching them of things that you do not know of, or rather – abilities and skills that I know more of then thou may recollect?” she adds, as if this suggestion would be obvious, her eyes never leaving Sir Dashan’s… saddle…

”Now – as for marriage? Bards and play-writes sing of love being a foundation for marriage. But what is that? Love is like the weather – a phase that comes and goes – sometimes strong and beautiful – like a sunrise – other times it is fleeting, like the sun that has slipped behind clouds. So love must be – as the philosophers tell us – for when the sun slips from the sky or behind the clouds, it is hidden… And this is right and true – for if it was always visible, strong and beautiful, soon the monotony of the beauty would wane, and by its very consistency we should grow bored with it and find it dull…”

”Yet – a marriage based on good family – it brings to thee the foundation on which love can grow, eh? Further – thou speak as is thy wont as a private person from thy youth – such comments must now be beneath thee.”

She sees you look but checks it with an impatient hand, and continues.

”Nay – I share your frustration in this – for it is sometimes admirable to look at the creatures beneath us; and see crawling among the grass the ants and the birds in the air – they are, for a little while, enviable; for they have no concern other then to move, to work, to eat, to sleep and to… to mate… Yet; thou are now more then that, wither thy wish it or no. Now thy possess title, and power – and with it comes the form of responsibility. What? Did thou think my ears were closed? I have seen hither thy desires for a free land of decent and honorable ways. What then? Will this happen by the makings of thy will alone? Will thy simply say “be thou so” – and see it unfold? Nay, it will require work, and toil – but it shall also require more practical things – daring, courage, audacity, luck – but did not the Warrior Poet say “Gold is but the sinews of the military” – it is so!”

”How then shall thy protect thy people? What shall thy do? If thy formulate a village – and a town – how shall it be defended? With kind words, and stern speeches? Nay, lady – it shall need protection – and where is the form of this protection? Where shall thy gain the ability to equip and arm these folk if not from a person with wealth?”

She looks at you for a moment, then continues.

”How shall thy protect thy people without wealth? How shall thy gird thy defenses without warriors and heroes? Where shall thy find the buildings to house the sick – and to create schools for those who seek coin? And where shall thy gain military support or aid if thou art assaulted?”

She looks up at the sky again, gauging the weather.

”In the end – thou will need help in these ventures. Very well – how then shall thy bind the help to thee? No doubt thy could marry for love – and I envy thee of this choice – but in the end; what? You will have folk under thee to watch, to protect, to shield. How can thee do this alone? Thou will need help – and who better to help thee then thy mate? And, with this force of logic to consider – who would be a better mate to thee then a mate who can provide all of these things to thee?”

She lets out a small sigh.

”In many ways it seems vulgar – as if thy would sell thy love for the good of thy nation – and to a peasant girl, this may be with some ease avoided. But to a noble? With a village, a town, a city – a nation – to look after such a thing – this would not be any easy task without help. It is, therefore – wither thy will it or nay – thy duty to seek out any thing that can advantage thy people – for they are a greater responsibility then the missives of thy heart. It is a sad thing – but a true one, I must say…”

She bites her lip – pondering something for a moment.

”I suppose, though – if I would heed my own words – that thy comment is more seemly inasmuch that it is my duty to the people. I suppose, then – that to requisition a horse for mine own use – though it benefits the nation – we are above such things, for they strike me as petty and thuggish. Rather – if the people are indeed our priority – then it may indeed be incorrect to simply take what we need from them. Perhaps it would best, as it is our duty – to think of them first in all things – not just the basic tenets of grand political schemes, but the essentials of everyday life.”

She thinks about this for a while, then turns to look at you.

”After all lady – we have a nation to govern, and certain responsibilities. For us to be willing to sacrifice all for the noble end of a high honorable quest – this may be a good and honorable thing – but we should not reach for such lofty heights until we first take the time to work on the basic needs around us – to observe and attend to the humble goodness all about us – only then can we begin to build the foundation of greatness that we aspire to,” she adds, nodding once to herself.

She turns and looks at you

”I am glad we have thus spoken – I feel that such talks are a good thing – no doubt in time thou may become more learned on the vast wellspring of my wisdom – from it thou may drink deeply, and learn much, even as I learn things from thee… from time to time,” she amends, after a moment.

Then, she says nothing again, her eyes now returning to watch Sir Dashan as he continues his trot – muttering something Draconic that sounds like – Would I were that horse – I would be ridden thusly all day! – you are not sure of her motives for such a comment, but wonder at your little charge. You suspect she has no true understanding of sexuality – rather, she simply wants Sir Dashan to be so close to her - like a knight riding on a dragon's back - you recall this is a bond that is well spoken of through ancient histories - knights riding on dragons, and sharing with knight and dragon a sacred and spiritual link. Such a bond is often considered near religious by some - and to a dragon - seeing a knight riding a horse - she is perhaps envying the bond that Sir Dashan is sharing with his horse - and wishes she could share that bond with him, even as the horse does... With no possible hint of sexual longing… But, then again…
