After flicking through this at my LFRS I parted with my hard earned cash. As I sat reading the Boggard entry, my youngest son asked what it was...after explaining it's uses, without giving anything away and being given an hour to prep, my kids successfully cleared out an old ruined keep (the floor plan for which looks suspiciously like The Keep on The Borderlands)of the Bugbear/hobgoblin tribe.... sorted. Yet another fine product that I wish I'd written myself. :D

Forgotten Realms grey box..yup.. I'm so stuck in the 80s :D
My eldest son choosing a Greatsword wielding Fighter (18 Str) to compliment my Battle Cleric of Gorum (18 Str).... sweet... a total of 4d6+12 per round if we both hit. Carnage, blood, headless corpses, hacked limbs all over the place :D We eventually started holding our actions to let the other players kill things as well
Okies.... it's half term in the UK and my boys have just asked if i could run a game!! Yay!! But I need time to prep...BOOOO!!! Two level 3 pc's... a fighter and a rogue... Would 'Crown of the Kobold King' be a challenge or would I need to buff some of the encounters? (apart from 'Pathfinderising' it)

Actions of this kind are disruptive and tend to spoil other players fun. If you have had previous disagreements with a potential DM, please settle these peacefully out of game. You replied as I was typing :( You have a point.... our GM stated that he wanted us to enjoy the AP and survive... LOL... some chance....
Dump 18 (or more if possible) into strength for a fighter or cleric of gorum... use greatsword as primary weapon... 2d6 + (1 and a half str) for damage for starters.. REALLY good on a critical Summoner ...max out on attacks... Summom Monster... go through all the monsters and check which ones get more than one attack in a full attack action, i've already done this and have printed out the monstes so far up to SM lvl 4 to speed up play..(eagle for starters, matey!) any trait or feat which adds combat or initiative bonus Exiled gives a +2 to intiative... reall good for fighter or ranger i'd say :) any cleric buff..work with the fighter and rogue using Bless... it's ONLY +1 to hit but at lvl one ALL allies get the bonus IF... you know these tricks already i apologise Search the class optimiaztion sticky thread too... have fun and enjoy ;)
Could one of the friendly gaming community lend me £162.26 or possibly £9446.46 please?.. I'm after the Friends & Foes deck... there's one on Ebay... would really find it useful.. BETTER STILL, WHY DON'T PAIZO DO A 2ND EDITION REPRINT AND STOP THIS SECONDARY 'LEGAL BLACK MARKET'? *RANT OVER* ;) for those who have money to burn or more money than sense: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Friends-Foes-Fantasy-Roleplaying-Gamemastery/dp/160 1252102/ref=pd_cp_b_3
TBH I think we're right... as you're now the same size... the traits state: Big Game Hunter
Giant Slayer: ..... You gain a +1
So.... Giant SLAYER (my bad) only works against gaints and giant subtypes was this a 'post playtest' edit?... :( Both traits have pro's and con's I 'spose :)
Am I correct in assuming that the bonuses of 'Big Game Hunter/Giant Killer' feat (+1 atk, +2 dam to large/larger creatures-BGH, or Giants-GK) from RotRL is negated if the target is 'Enlarged' from Medium to Large? I reckon it is, as you are now the same size as the creature you had training against, instead of being a tiny, petty mortal (paraphrasing Thor!) but would still work if you're Large vs Huge or bigger....
Thanks sooo much for this sticky guide... after much deliberation, iterating, number crunching, and going through CRB, UM, UC and APG this has helped me create the character I was after... the look on the GM's face as I rattled off the numbers, feats and character concept/backstory was priceless... wish I'd had my camera with me ;)
I've been away from Pathfinder/Paizo for nearly 2 years (I know, I'm ashamed of myself).. and it was Bestiary 4 that has ignited my interest again being a HUGE Lovecraft fan.... didn't the WoTC (chokes on own words) Heroes of Horror sourcebook have insanity rules... and Yes, I got the d20 Cthulhu knocking around somewhere in the loft/attic.. but I don't go into lofts/attics anymore... I stay by the get-away car with my revolver ready ;)
If you make Firearms commonplace it puts a 'Bangstick' in the hands of the 'armed forces' of each nation.. you wouldn't have a couple of lone maverick snipers etc on each side in a battle, you'd have field units of dragoons, pitoleros, snipers, mounted pistoleros...and that's without making them sorceror pistolero's :D I think this will crop up every new player or GM we get on these boards tbh and even a few established players like me still rack their brains regarding this, until Paizo established firearms as a bona fide RAW character option most players and GM's dismissed firearms BUT.. you cant say that pirates with just swords and crossbows are cool really, the bangstick brings in the Errol Flynn/Johnny Depp aspect which to some people is just COOL!!!
Good point about crafting tbh... basically you either create or fail there's no 'real world' anaolgy of something 'only lasting 5 minutes' Without trawling through the gunslinger, firearms and gunsmithing skill, as i'm a bit out of touch with it even though i have played a 'sh**s & giggles' rogue/gunslinger landlocked pirate type pc, i think a critical failure in gunsmithing should make a firearm more prone to misfiring say up to 5 while a critical success creates a 'normal' superior weapon with less chance to misfire..or reduces creation there must be another thread regarding this somewhere...LOL TBH i think the crafting rules for firearms are put in place to regulate PC's in creating there own ammo, also I'd say that a ranger or ranged fighter specialising in archery should also have auto success in fletching and bowmaking etc...just to make it fair or create the feat it self - Fletching for arrows, Bowyer for..well....bows LOL Firearms ARE expensive when they were first invented in the real world, they were more like a prestige items to own, just google 'Napoleans double barrel pistol' which i copied and pasted to make an item card (masterwork double barrel pistol) as one wasn't available at the time LOL OR...use the automatic success gunsmithing skill/feat to regulate how many and the cost to make arrows/bolts...
The RAW info on guns in UC tells you everything you need to know IMO...cost and production time etc..personally, it keeps it High Fantasy Middle Ages...making firearms commonplace bumps it 'future forward' to High Fantasy Renaissance (not a bad thing) additionally, is the post as player or a GM...coz as a player it's just an excuse to make money.. you're an adventurer, not a business man ;)
Having played (and survived) this as my first foray into PFRPG i'm thinking of running this dungeon bash sometime next week for my son and his mates during half term - they're at lvl 3... so shall I restock the dungeon with appropriate encounters and 'level up' the BBEG or just 'level up' the entire module??
To cut a long story short my wife is off her feet, due to surgery, for the next few months so she finally has chance to read - she's just about to finish Raymond E Feist/Janny Wurts' ...Of The Empire trilogy with Winter Witch to follow.... so what she has asked me for are any novels, trilogies or series where there is at least one good female lead/heroine... ooo..just thought, Dragonlance or the Pern novels, never read 'em..reviews and suggestions much appreciated I suggested she sit down with the PFRPG and run a game for us all...that idea went down like a lead balloon :(
I'm preparing (actually, probably over-preparing) a blue dragon vs brass or copper dragon desert land caper/adventure for my sons and their buddies....so this is the pitch...where oh where did i see a half blue dragon team of agents that were used by the blue dragon mother to protect her borders and lair etc?? Was it a 4E D&D essential, a web enhancement, a magazine article or part of a published d20 adventure....I'm pretty sure there was full colour art to go with it...or did i dream it and just give every GM an adventure hook? :D
Has anyone attempted to use water based artist's acrylics, watered down of course, to paint minis as opposed to using the usual mini paints available from a local gaming shop? I only ask due to the fact that UK prices are....well....pricey for mini paints. A certain UK based wargames company charges £18 for a specific setting starter set i.e. fantasy, sci fi or that tolkien based film wargaming thing ;) up to £30 for a 'hobby starter set'. I don't paint loads of minis, in fact, i've painted two in the last 6 months!! so i want to save as much as possible. Another local shop has a 20 tube set on special offer at the moment and i'd appreciate some of the pro's and con's for artist's acrylics....

deinol wrote: Anyone have a list of Lovecraft creations that haven't made it into bestiaries yet? ;) I have a love/hate relationship with the idea of d20 Call of Cthulhu, but it certainly helps. I mean, why create a known Mythos creature from scratch when the groundwork had been done for you?.... ....and we just KNOW that the Paizo artwork for Mythos creature will be just AWESOME! :D
thnx guys - in most combat situations I've seen only one or two free actions in one turn. Usually 'drop my bow (Free action) and draw my melee weapon as I move to there' type stuff. As for talking it comes down to the player whose turn it is shouting 'Attack the (insert monster/NPC here) first!' Job done. |
