Are there any unlabelled maps for each settlement?

I know my group and which ever town they start in they like to walk around and role play and get to know some locals. From past experience, as a group, we prefer an unlabelled map rather than asking... whats 1? what's 2? what's 3?

Okies.... it's half term in the UK and my boys have just asked if i could run a game!! Yay!! But I need time to prep...BOOOO!!!

Two level 3 pc's... a fighter and a rogue...

Would 'Crown of the Kobold King' be a challenge or would I need to buff some of the encounters? (apart from 'Pathfinderising' it)

Could one of the friendly gaming community lend me £162.26 or possibly £9446.46 please?.. I'm after the Friends & Foes deck... there's one on Ebay... would really find it useful.. BETTER STILL, WHY DON'T PAIZO DO A 2ND EDITION REPRINT AND STOP THIS SECONDARY 'LEGAL BLACK MARKET'?

*RANT OVER* ;)

Am I correct in assuming that the bonuses of 'Big Game Hunter/Giant Killer' feat (+1 atk, +2 dam to large/larger creatures-BGH, or Giants-GK) from RotRL is negated if the target is 'Enlarged' from Medium to Large?

I reckon it is, as you are now the same size as the creature you had training against, instead of being a tiny, petty mortal (paraphrasing Thor!) but would still work if you're Large vs Huge or bigger....

Having played (and survived) this as my first foray into PFRPG i'm thinking of running this dungeon bash sometime next week for my son and his mates during half term - they're at lvl 3...

so shall I restock the dungeon with appropriate encounters and 'level up' the BBEG or just 'level up' the entire module??

Scarab Sages

Unless I've missed it, why are there no random encounter tables in B2, yes i've constructed themed dungeons and wilderness treks but occasionally I like to throw in a 70s style, no link at all, doesn't fit in, random encounter...

To cut a long story short my wife is off her feet, due to surgery, for the next few months so she finally has chance to read - she's just about to finish Raymond E Feist/Janny Wurts' ...Of The Empire trilogy with Winter Witch to follow....

so what she has asked me for are any novels, trilogies or series where there is at least one good female lead/heroine...

ooo..just thought, Dragonlance or the Pern novels, never read 'em..reviews and suggestions much appreciated

I suggested she sit down with the PFRPG and run a game for us all...that idea went down like a lead balloon :(

I'm preparing (actually, probably over-preparing) a blue dragon vs brass or copper dragon desert land caper/adventure for my sons and their buddies....so this is the pitch...where oh where did i see a half blue dragon team of agents that were used by the blue dragon mother to protect her borders and lair etc??

Was it a 4E D&D essential, a web enhancement, a magazine article or part of a published d20 adventure....I'm pretty sure there was full colour art to go with it...or did i dream it and just give every GM an adventure hook? :D

Has anyone attempted to use water based artist's acrylics, watered down of course, to paint minis as opposed to using the usual mini paints available from a local gaming shop?

I only ask due to the fact that UK prices are....well....pricey for mini paints. A certain UK based wargames company charges £18 for a specific setting starter set i.e. fantasy, sci fi or that tolkien based film wargaming thing ;) up to £30 for a 'hobby starter set'.

I don't paint loads of minis, in fact, i've painted two in the last 6 months!! so i want to save as much as possible.

Another local shop has a 20 tube set on special offer at the moment and i'd appreciate some of the pro's and con's for artist's acrylics....

It's probably been asked numerous times before, but just again...How many free actions per turn is a reasonable amount? If the round is 6 seconds I reckon making 6 free actions finishes your turn...

Suggestions please :)

..and other such quotes, too many to mention.

What I'm after, if it exists, is the d20 Star Wars RPG stats for the Rancor....the sourcebook title or a link to someone's homebrew....or better still a Golarion equivalent just to see the look on the players faces when instead of describing it, I just show them a still from Return of The Jedi :D

After spotting Abundant Ammunition in UC my son is now trying to work out how to make or the cost 'at retail' for a 'Self Loading 2 Barrel Pistol'

I reckon, so far, the requirements would be Craft Magic Weapons and Armour, Gunsmithing, and Knowledge (Alchemy). The costs would include
2000gp for Abundant Ammunition and 2050gp for the Masterwork 2 barrel pistol, also adding 'Reliable' adds 1000gp - so that equals 5050gp or something like that. The item itself would give off a strong conjuration aura if found in a treasure pile.

TBH We ain't to good at the magic item creation side of PF, so this is a good exercise for the both of us

Any wise and knowledgable players or GMs out there that can help finalise this idea?

p.s. I'm off to watch the POTC trilogy and some Clint Eastwood westerns :D

1 person marked this as a favorite.

This is probably in the wrong section but I didn't know where else to post!

This is one for the IT specialists at Paizo or someone who really knows their Publisher and Adobe stuff. Here goes...I attempted to copy and paste, for my own use, the rune symbol for Varisia on pg 194 of The Inner Sea World Guide and then pasted it onto a copied item card pdf...and got a black background, so then as a 'test run' i copied and pasted mayor kendra from the next page and got a black background...anyone know why this happens?

Don't get me wrong - the item cards and npc portraits etc are a great idea, it's just that sometimes we need to make our own player handouts and the black background will 'totally cane' the black ink, as we say in my neck of the woods :D

Scarab Sages

This is a question to GMs.

If you gave the players a minor artefact, either as a reward or god forbid it came up as a random treasure, how much would you allow the players to sell it for?

The adventuring troupe we play as have found a minor, non-cursed artefact that is probably more trouble than it's worth to keep once word gets out that the troupe now has it....so, what shall we start the auction at...?

OR shall we just cut our losses and dump said item in the bay as a 'tribute' to Gozreh?

Post your most outlandish feats here...

Awesome Awesomeness Grit

Prerequisite: Gunslinger class or Amateur Gunslinger Feat.

Benefit: Opponents are are so awed by your awesome awesomeness that if you are first in initiative combat order they stand there in awe. In effect all opponents are flat footed FOR THE ENTIRE combat. In addition, they are unable to attack, move, cast spells or do anything as they stare in awe at your awesome awesomeness. Your allies gain a +4 to all attacks as they reap the benefits of having such a cool adventuring buddy. For this feat to take effect you must perform such awesome displays as spinning your pistol around and replacing it in the holster, performing Gun-Fu combat maneuvers, rolling behind crates and shooting at opponents, sliding over car bonnets...oops sorry, i meant sliding under wagons, carts or coaches, swinging from chandaliers, ropes, rigging or sails, hopping over horses backs etc etc etc. If you are not first in initiative order your allies can ready an action instead allowing you to take the first combat action allowing this feat to cause its effects.

Normal: Is there such a thing as a normal gunslinger? :D

Scarab Sages

here goes...Character possesses Weapon Finesse, TWF and I'm looking at dipping into Gunslinger on the next 'level up'...so, if the character has a rapier in his main hand and a pistol in his off hand what would the penalties/bonuses be for combat purposes? Only because I'm a sucker for pirate films :D

I'm thinking of either Point Blank Shot or Opening Volley for his level 3 feat - I don't have character sheet with me for reference but this is the info I can remember....

-2 TWF
+ 3 Dex Bonus for W/Finesse = +1
Weapon Focus: rapier (+1) = +2

So..would he get +1 for the pistol shot then +6 if the pistol hits?

Is a pistol classed as a light weapon at it is written as weighing 4lbs

Long story short: I was asked to play D&D 4E (against my better judgement) to 'make up the numbers' with my eldest sons gaming group, aged 13-14.

The DM,the same player who, when I ran Master of the Fallen Fortress, killed the unarmed, unarmoured non threatening Pathfinder Society 'hook NPC' was not using a DM's screen, blatantly fudged quite a few to hit rolls against several players and also the weapon that the BBEG totally ass raped us with, a blood drinker axe or something similar 'melts away into nothing, it just disappears'. You should have seen the looks on the other players faces, as we'd been discussing selling it and all buying decent magic weapons and potions etc. I just sat there and gave that wide eyed, then look up to heaven 'I know' look to my son :D

The BBEG missed with an 11 in the second round, but hit my PC with an 11 in the third round!!! No, He wasn't bloodied and the DM says 'he just hits OK?' no explanation, with that teenage sarcasm 'whatever' voice - come on parents, we know the one, right LOL

My son told me last night that he asked the DM, his mate/best pal, why did the weapon melt away? the DM gave this answer, or something similar 'I didn't want the party to have it! 'woah, throwing toys out of the cot' i replied to my son

So....i can simply walk away and not play 4E EVER!! However, my son doesn't really have that option...I suppose I could run the Godsmouth Ossuary and tone it down as a solo adventure, but solo ain't much fun really, is it?

he, the DM, even had the balls to say 'Are you calling me a bad DM?' during one part of the overly long and boring combat encounter (the only encounter lasted nearly two hours!) I should have put subtlety aside and replied yes instead of saying what i did say.

when I GM'd if the monsters miss, the monsters miss I don't reroll for each attack. also I'm pretty sure that you don't have to roll to quaff a potion or did I miss that 'new 4E rule'....?

We've all been there as Noob DM's and I can remember my first ever DM session for CoC, I sucked - if an item looked too powerful I simply gave the monsters something else

I get the impression that the DM has skimmed the rules (the red box blatant old school rip off basic 4E rules), played NWN and watched various youtube vidoes then decided to DM - my son says that 'some things just don't seem to feel right as a player' I suggested he's like the old school DM who DM's to do over, kill, beat, grind the players into dust, not the new type that provides entertainment and reveals the world to the players

After typing all this crap in I've realised two things: Lack of maturity and lack of experience PLAYING with a more experienced GMs DOH!!!

PS need advice pretty quick - my son has friday off school and the DM is planning already. I told my son to tell him we're busy

I even thought of running Microlite20 instead!!!

Are the planets 'to scale' in the illustration? I only ask because I am preparing Spelljammer style setting information. Also, what size is Golarion, even the AD&D sourcebooks are vague on planet size, unless I've overlooked it! They don't even give hints to the size of Krynn or Toril compared to Earth, even though they are 'Earth style planets'

Any guidance much appreciated. It's only being done because I know at least one of my players will search this information in character as the setting unfolds.

If there are any Spelljammer vets out there that could suggest a planet size for Golarion and I can wing it for the other planet sizes :D

I'm thinking size D or E for Golarion, then sizing the Sun as H

I bought the Katapeshi caravan and need more camels. Does it break copyright law if I copy and paste only the camel token into Publisher to create a sheet of camels to print off for my own use?

Cheers, Pathfinder Dad

ps My eldest son said 'Wow, you got Moses!' he meant sheet 1, left hand side, fourth character down with the quill and parchment!!

Long story short: Balenar Forsend - the group had distributed his gear amongst the party THEN unlocked the cell door and released him, he says: Thanks for rescuing me, OH and you've found my gear (points at ranger in M/W armor) AND my rapier (pointing at rogue with M/W rapier)....I'd like to have them back, please....Ranger says It's mine (total Bluff roll fail) and so Balenar KNOWS he's lying...

the Neutral Ranger kills an unarmed, unarmored and non-threatening NPC just to keep the gear - so....shall I:

1 - have Balenar come back as some sort of nasty ghost haunting the fourth floor, with loads of lesser undead haunting the area?

2 - have the Wayfinder, which I rationalize as an heirloom for this idea, as his 'fetter' which his ghost haunts until his killer is bought to justice?

3 - have the Pathfinder Society first send in a team to find his body, then question the ghost or resurrect him, then hunt down the party so justice can prevail?

4 - let the player get away with murder?

5 - have Balenar come back as something out of 3.5 Ghostwalk and personally hunt the ranger down?

6 - have a god seek divine vengeance?

ps....option 4 is NOT an option :D

The ranger player wants to play friday, just finished MoTFF an hour ago..and I have time to prepare.

Quick background - on Saturday the weather where I live in the UK was terrible, it was 'chucking it down' as we say i.e. lots of rain. My sons said 'can we do a dungeon bash/' as they have no idea that a little prep still needs to be done, remember these are of the 'put the game/cartridge in the device' and go generation

Eldest has an elf rogue and youngest went for a dwarf fighter.

I grabbed four tiles from a certain (terrible) boardgame based on 'the worlds best known FRPG' and 2 hours later we were done - they were happy, I was happy and we had not one, but two, 'Am I still unconscious?' moments due to me fudging a bit to prevent PC rogue death.

I'm going to run Master of the Fallen Fortress for them 'leveled up' for 2nd level PC's but after that, any clues guys? Bear in mind that eldest son understands that tabletop rpgs aren't your MMORPG or PC RPG and that youngest is very much enjoying playing his dwarf (stats are str 17, dex 15, con 17, int 12, wis 16, cha 13)who walked through a horde of skellies while the rogue tried to keep up with head counts!!

Youngest son could very easily get bored with 'social interaction' but I thought that at least he's getting an experience of dad's funny looking dice and is, therefore, a future potential gamer.

The only idea I had was to convert Keep on the Borderlands for PFRPG, if I can find it in the rubbish tip that is the loft/attic...If memory serves me right doesn't is start with an intro with the watch captain or king etc then off for corridors, caverns and dungeon bashing galore?

Has anyone already done a conversion of KoTB or can point me in the right direction?

I'm sending out a plea for help. Either I dreamt it (!) or i did see some time ago a mention to a necromancer style sub class called an 'osteomancer' or bone magician.

I did an internet search this morning and Osteomancer comes up as a home made monk style, where they augment their bodies by manipulating their bones....however, i'm pretty sure i've seen either home made rules or at least a spell list..i've got some blood magic additions to add to Bloatmages and i want to add osteomancy just to throw an unknown style of magic at the players and see their faces when i say...'first you feel as though your fingers have been pulled from their sockets (-1 to hit,at least) as they also feel internal bleeding in the same hand (taking X dice damage)

The group I play with has recently been discussing the idea that we all contrubute to a sand box game - the GM at the moment has done a lot of work (applause all round!) with detailing the local area that he feels may never get used (sad face).

So after a good discussion we have made the 90% choice that we may go with the 'more than one GM' idea. I've read the good and bad points about this style (3.5 or Advanced GM's Guide I think)but has anyone on these forums used this idea or actually running a multi-GM sandbox? Using AP's is one thing but I was just asking for feedback on multi-GM sandbox.

Cheers!

Any reference to Deep One in this template can sort of be changed to Skum (PFB1 pg 253). I knocked this up after first reading the Skum in Bestiary 1. I cross refernced with d20 Call of Cthulhu and used Green Ronin's Advanced Bestiary as well the Amphibious Template. This post also requires a basic knowledge of HP Lovecraft's story 'Shadow over Innsmouth' and the Call of Cthulhu rpg adventure 'Escape from Innsmouth'. The template is going to be used to add the feel of an isolated town sinking into the sea, so to speak. I'll be using a 'Pathfinderised' Hybrid/Deep One as the main enemy/BBEG

Any further ideas will be appreciated - I thought I'd create the template first, rather than sit back and get other people to do it ;D

HYBRID, DEEP ONE.

“Hybrid, Deep One” is a template that can be added ONLY to a human of any character class, due to the Deep One’s reproduction cycle tied exclusively to the human race. A Hybrid uses all the base humans statistics, skills and special abilities etc except as noted here.

Size and Type: these remain unchanged, but the human gains the amphibious subtype NOT aquatic as it has not yet undergone the full transformation into a deep one.

Speed: Land speed is reduced to 20 ft, swim speed increases to 40ft. The fingers become webbed to facilitate this.

Armour Class: Natural Armour class increases if Call of The Sea Fort save is failed (see below)

Advancement: By base human character class (usually unknowing commoner)

CR: +1

Special Qualities: The hybrid retains all the base humans skills etc and gains the following

Call of The Sea: At the age of 10+1d6 and every birthday thereafter, a hybrid must make a Fortitude roll, the first attempt is against DC20. The DC increases by 1 every year. Eventually a hybrid will become a Deep One, at which point it joins it ancestors who sent it the visions (see below)

Visions of Father Dagon and Mother Hydra: As the hybrid reaches puberty, they will begin to experience vivid dreams of life beneath the sea. The hybrid is visited in their dreams by ancestors who have already completed ‘The Change’ into Deep Ones. Depending on the GM’s choice, this can induce gradual insanity.

The following qualities only begin after the Call of The Sea Fort roll is failed:

Amphibious: The hybrid is capable of breathing in air and water. Small gills develop on the side of the neck. With a Perception check (DC 25) another person can spot three small ‘scars’ on each side of the neck.

Athletic: Due to the hybrid growing claws and developing webbing between the fingers.

Claws: The hybrid’s fingernails become thicker and stronger (1d4+STR bonus)

Low light Vision: The hybrid’s eyes begin to grow larger as the transformation starts.

Natural Armour Class: +2 increase due to blubber or scales etc GM’s choice (deep ones get +4 natural)

Stat increase/decrease: +2 STR, +2 CON, -2 CHA. The hybrid becomes stronger and fitter but slowly transforms into an ugly creature of the deep oceans.

Skills: +4 Swim

Prevention: The change into a Deep One can be reversed, at the choice of the GM. This could include a major campaign or quest, for either a LG or LN church opposing a known temple of Dagon or a planet wide search for an artefact or tome of knowledge etc. This brings the nihilistic world view of HP Lovecraft’s writings into the PFRPG and the basic assumption that eventually ‘the stars will be right’ and the hugely powerful entities inhabiting the cosmos will arise and destroy Golarion!!! Of course, it’s the GM’s choice.

Notes: the emphasis is on a slow, physical and mental change as a human transforms into a creature wholly focused on worshipping an all powerful entity from a HP Lovecraft story. Depending on what the GM wishes to achieve in his/her narrative a hybrid could be in the latter stages of development or just starting – each hybrid has common characteristics and something unique that ties it to humanity.

Common characteristics: Large eyes with no iris, large lips, slightly long arms, a hunchback or stooped walk, balding or hair loss, small or shrinking ears, onset of gills.

Unique characteristics: eyes keep their iris/colour, warty skin, asthma or breathing difficulties on land, hay fever, agoraphobia, large ears, no webbing between fingers which means no bonus to swim checks, strange skin colouring – scorpion fish or tiger shark, a pointed shark like face etc

1 person marked this as a favorite.

After an off-hand/humourous remark two weeks ago I decided to dust off the Advanced Bestiary and apply a template of one fantasy classic monster onto another - now I can't post which monster and template in case my players read this.

The template I used suggested a +2 CR but with all the other buffs etc I'm thinking of suggesting another +1 to CR for every 2 levels of additional character class...

I wish I could be more specific, but if i mention the 'new creature' before testing it, my players will know it's me!!!!!

so, i'm just asking has any else tried this bestiary with the PFRPG Bestiaries? Was the new creature well received by the players or did it just bomb?

Something occured to me during character creation (an elf rogue)...here goes, I'm a biker and to maintain safety on the road I am effectivley wearing (unstudded) leather armour to a degree - the jacket is reasonably heavy. HOWEVER, once it is put on I do not feel the weight...(if you own a leather jacket or long wool overcoat try this - place it on the floor and pick it up a couple of times. Now...put it on...See?)so my question is...

Is the weight of armour for encumbrance carrying weight or wearing weight? Yes, my bikers leather is restrictive (DEX penalty!) but it certainly doesn't feel as heavy wearing it as it does carrying it around on a hot sunny day

Any thoughts? - I was thinking of maybe cutting each armour weight by a certain percentage as a house rule for wearing as opposed to carrying it.

and no answers about clockwork or steam driven motorbikes in Golarion :D

Just in case anyone else has a player ask them about multibarreled firearms, seen as the pdf illustration is double barrelled pistols, I did some research, just to appease the player, and this is what i quoted for them:

'...flintlocks were sometimes produced with two, three, four or more barrels for multiple shots. These designs tended to be costly to make and were often unreliable and dangerous. While weapons like double barreled shotguns were reasonably safe, weapons like the pepperbox revolver would sometimes fire all barrels simultaneously, or would sometimes just explode in the user's hand. It was often less expensive, safer, and more reliable to carry several single-shot weapons instead...' (from Askjeeves Encyclopedia)
