Male Human Vigilante (Faceless Enforcer) 7

If anyone is still reading this thread - you are backing the Kingmaker CRPG kickstarter, right? If you somehow don't, you absolutely should!

Just how much does Lamm have a hand in?

"I used to work for the Guard, and after I... left, I spent some time patrolling the Midlands. Lamm really has a hand everywhere - from street urchins, to drug kingpins, to corrupt guardsmen." Andras looks menacingly at Rake. "We are not safe from his machinations anywhere."

"But now we have something to start from, and a common purpose. I will go out and question some of the Midlands thugs tonight, about who and when goes in and out of the Old Fishery. I am fairly sure the promise of getting closely acquainted with some of the finer features of Citadel Vraid's torture chambers will loosen some tongues."
Intimidate: 1d20 + 13 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 13 + 12 = 41 Including the bonus from Great Renown

Male Human Vigilante (Faceless Enforcer) 7

To clarify - did you intend us to do those rolls as part of our nightly (or daily in some cases I suppose?) independent vigilante activity, or as part of a group brainstorm like Tess is describing?

Male Human Vigilante (Faceless Enforcer) 7

Knowledge (Local): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10 oh come on!

The Midwife that died in the fire... the tale sounded tantalizingly familiar but Andras was so stunned by the supernatural spectacle that any details have escaped his mind. He kept silent as the possessed girl spoke, and only after she finished the realization started slowly dawning on him. Carefully, he reached into his sack and produced the charred Harrow card.

"The Paladin... So it was you who sent this to me? To.. us?" He looks into the faces of the others, waiting to catch a glimpse of recognition. His outward appearance doesn't change but his facial expression becomes fearsome with repressed anger and the clenched fists cause powerful muscles to bulge under his sleeves.

"My name is Andras Teoss. Lamm has a lot to answer for before me as well. His bribes have cost me my job, and his goons have deprived me of my home and family. The evil he brings to Korvosa must be buried - and as The Final Nail I will use every chance to ensure this is done."

Male Human Vigilante (Faceless Enforcer) 7

If it's a trap, then not just for me - and a mighty strange one, Andras deduces.
He is still tense, but now with uncertainty more than fear.

"Why did Alika choose your store to invite us? Is it her who needs help - or you?"

Male Human Vigilante (Faceless Enforcer) 7

Andras tries his best not to look tense, but isn't very successful. A couple of faces look vaguely familiar to him and he struggles for a moment to remember - until he gets it: the wanted lists back from his time in the Guard. "A trap, clearly." he thinks. He looks around casually, trying to identify all possible exits from the building.
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31

"Alika is a pretty common name here in Korvosa isn't it?", he offers nonchalantly. "If someone asked me to come up with a female name on a whim, that would be my first pick."

Male Human Vigilante (Faceless Enforcer) 7

I'm on a business trip next week until Apr 29th with limited internet access, so my posting will be limited. Feel free to bot me if necessary.

Male Human Vigilante (Faceless Enforcer) 7

Nice intro Corsario!

Andras breaks into sweat as he reads the card. "I've blown my cover! But where?!" He hastily pockets it and looks around, but the delivery boy is gone.
He spends the rest of the day preparing and delivering goods as normal, but is a bit more absent-minded than usual and mixes up a couple of orders. Settling this matter causes him to close shop a few hours later than usual and it's already dark by the time he draws the card and reads it again in the loneliness of his fireplace chamber. He ponders tossing it into the fire, but the impossible thought that it could have belonged to his mother stays his hand. Father's mysterious death made her superstitious in her late years, she could have well turned to Varisian customs as a consolation...

In the dead of the night, the evenly paced steps of the lone hellknight trace the perimeter of the Romani's music shop at Bridgefront before vanishing into the darkness of the dockside.

Assuming I don't encounter anyone
At dawn, Andras approaches the music shop, carrying a bag on his shoulder, with darkened eyes and unshaved cheeks betraying the look of a man who had a bit more fun than he could bear the night before. He looks around to see if there is anybody to address before coming in.
"Say, is this place open yet? I've just had a great party on the East Shore tonight, had a drink or five with that nice girl before she had to run off... But she told me I can find her here if I want, and you bet I do! Quite a charmer, that one!", he adds with a wink.

Male Human Vigilante (Faceless Enforcer) 7

I guess I am slightly confused regarding the multiple alignments/identities... Is it OK if I just switch the Social to be LN and Vigilante to be NG? I want to retain the LE option for the Infiltrator.

Another couple of questions:
1) Can I assume that the Signature Weapon talent is modified alongside the feat tax rules and applies to the whole weapon group?
2) My vigilante identity is based on creating a 'rogue hellknight of the Nail' impression. Would you allow to switch the halberd to a similar-looking reach weapon (e.g. bardiche)?

Male Human Vigilante (Faceless Enforcer) 7

W00t! And so it begins :)

I have spent 5K on a bag of concealment for this purpose :)

CyberMephit here with my Faceless Enforcer ready for submission. May tweak a feat here or an item there in the crunch, but I think the core is solid.

As a Faceless Enforcer, my identity change is linked to the helmet as part of the armor. I have taken a Steel Skin trait (reflected in the background); I hope it will stack with the Armored Juggernaut class feature?

Also I have taken an extra feat Weapon Focus (Polearms) in Hero Lab - this is to account for the Signature Weapon vigilante talent that does not work with the anti-feat tax house rule package.

I would like to submit Andras Teoss, an NG Human Arcanist (Occultist).

GM answers are in the profile, reposting them here too for convenience:

1. What is your character's connection to Korvosa? Why is he here?:

Andras was born in Magnimar, but moved to Korvosa in order to enroll in Acadamae as he possessed a significant magical talent, especially in the field of conjuration, and the prospect of mastering the art of conjuring extraplanar beings, and through them, learning about life in the multiverse, exhilarated him. However, once his studies began in earnest, he became disillusioned with the way Acadamae focused on brutally pressing the summoned outsiders into service, treating them as expendable (if dangerous) tools. On his penultimate exam, he has succeeded in keeping a majestic celestial eagle bound to the material plane for much longer than was necessary, at which point he was ordered to kill the creature. Appalled, he refused to do so, and was suspended from studies.

As his case was being investigated by the school board, his roommate, with whom he had cold relations, was found murdered. A supposed eyewitness has framed Andras, and he was immediately expelled. Later, the charges were quietly dropped as the Guard has found evidence that the roommate was addicted to shiver supplied to him by a gang of one Gaedren Lamm, and was killed by the gang over the money he owed them for the drug. Andras just happened to be the most convenient scapegoat at that point. But Andras did not try to restore in the Acadamae, feeling that the relationship between him and the university has been mutually soured forever.

Still, he has come to love the vibrant city outside the forbidding Acadamae walls, and he still hopes to see justice done to Gaedren Lamm’s gangsters and the man himself. He finds Korvosa much livelier as opposed to Magnimar, which in his memories is dominated by lifeless golems and timeless monuments.

2. Who is one NPC your character thinks of as a friend or ally? (Can be made up and not from AP or official source material.):

Gregor Hugthorn, a recently retired Acadamae enchantments instructor. Giving a much kinder impression than most of the faculty, he always taught that arcane knowledge is best used as an academic research tool and not to be wantonly used on unwilling subjects. He was on the examining commission witnessing the summoning incident, and has taken a liking to Andras since then. Rumor has it that he was the one who extracted the truth from the eyewitness, while some add that after Gregor was done with him, the poor man went insane way before Lamm’s thugs got to him. Gregor himself maintains silence on the subject, denying any use of magic outside of the campus in relation to Andras’ case.

3. What is one goal for your PC other than the one provided in your campaign trait?:

Andras dreams of undermining Acadamae’s de-facto monopoly on the conjuration studies. He wants to raise awareness about the finer aspects of conjuration, be it getting celestial help to protect a community from a calamity, communing with other planes to get insight about the tide of events in the multiverse, or simply studying the endless forms of existence for the benefit of humanity. Sometimes he dreams of opening a sort of extraplanar menagerie, where all sorts of benign outsiders would be displayed for the fun of onlookers and available to perform a minor service in return for a charitable donation.

Andras reflexively catches the flask and stares at it incredulously for a moment, before finally tossing it at the ogrekin. Atk: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31 Please modify for range or point blank shot as needed as there's no map. Dmg: 1d6 ⇒ 3

Andras gives his crossbow to Karla and his silver dagger to one of the black arrows. Armed with a cold iron longsword and a light steel shield, he takes position abreast of Lucan and ventures forth, ready to face the dangers lurking upstairs.
While Zohan directs his magical assistant to open the door, Andras touches his armor with his holy symbol, giving it a faint glow. Sacred Armor, +1 enh bonus for 1 minute/level

"It's the least I could do after you took the vilest of those monsters head-on and spared us from a similar fate, Karla."

If there's anyone who still lacks 5 or more HP after the channeling, Andras will use the wand of CLW to heal them.

later
Andras backs a bit further away from Karla gesticulating with her sword in hand.
"Clearing this place or at least retrieving the rangers' gear makes sense, but you're still in no shape to fight after the poison. Perhaps we could switch places and I could replace you on the front line? I can lend you my crossbow if you don't have a ranged weapon of your own. I am not as fierce a fighter but I know how to hold a line."
He turns to the Black Arrows.
"If any of you feel ready to get into melee, I have a sword or a dagger to spare."

Male Human Vigilante (Faceless Enforcer) 7

Andras hurries over the catwalk to Karla's slumped body.
"I should be able to help somewhat, though I didn't expect us to face a poison that potent. Luckily, the spider poisons usually dissipate quite quickly. Ironically, if someone would be able do deal with it fully, it would be Karla..."
He finds the bite marks on the body and presses his holy symbol to the blackened flesh around them, uttering a prayer for Abadar to cleanse it.

Is it just me, or has Karla taken Str damage from poison 3 times in 2 rounds?

Male Human Vigilante (Faceless Enforcer) 7

Andras is not flat-footed or anything, right? Too bad that haste is down, I had a cool tactic in mind :)
As the giant spider's legs and mandibles bounce off Andras' plate armor with a disgusting screeching sound but otherwise harmlessly, Andras does his best to keep a steady aim, unleashing a load of flaming bolts into the chaotic tangle of limbs and eyes before him with a grimace of loathing on his face.

Male Human Vigilante (Faceless Enforcer) 7

Yeah, I suppose I can see why they ended up removing full BAB from the Warpriest in the blog post. I'll enjoy my sniper powers for another month :) I have completely missed the fact that the Warpriest can choose any weapon as his Sacred weapon though, with a longbow or a melee weapon I wouldn't have to spend so many feats on getting a full attack.

Male Human Vigilante (Faceless Enforcer) 7

By Abadar's grace, these eight-legged freaks are worse than the ogres!
The view of a huge spider draining Karla's strength unsettles Andras, but he tries to stay calm and inflict as much damage as possible. He touches his weapon with his holy symbol, and the bolts immediately set ablaze as they are fired.

Using Sacred Weapon as a swift action to give the Flaming property to the crossbow for one round, and full attacking the biggest spider.
Haste and Weapon of Awe should be still up. Rapid Shot + Deadly Aim.

The combat lasted 5 rounds, which means most of the buffs will be down within 2-9 rounds, PfC on Lord Zohan, Shalelu and Zadderk will be up for 1.5 more minutes. Do we press on immediately, or stop for a few rounds of healing and looking around?

Male Human Vigilante (Faceless Enforcer) 7

Andras puts the still-glowing crossbow away and reaches for a healing wand.
"Somehow the traps they construct are even deadlier than their hooks. May Serra's soul enjoy the access to the First Vault, but give me a minute to heal those still living."

Male Human Vigilante (Faceless Enforcer) 7

Andras makes a parting shot at the nearest zombie before retreating into the dining room to free up the corridor.
All the same effects as last time, I think.

I am not sure if summoned creatures can teleport though...

Male Human Vigilante (Faceless Enforcer) 7

"Hey I just came here! This battle is too chaotic and needs to be more orderly."
Andras attempts to touch Karla's sword to imbue it with his Blessing of Law before moving back to E4.
Touch attack in case Karla is unwilling: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11. +1d6 damage vs Chaotic for 1 minute if applied.

Male Human Vigilante (Faceless Enforcer) 7

Sorry Zadderk, but the Blessing of the Law can only be applied to melee weapons!

Goodbye Serra, hope things work out for you at school.

Thanks for resolving my doubt Lucan. I've read so much about healing in combat being the worst thing a cleric could do that I was reluctant to do that. Maybe I should play more and read the boards less.

Male Human Vigilante (Faceless Enforcer) 7

Andras moves past Lucan and makes his wound stop bleeding by releasing a portion of positive energy.
Moving to E7 and using the Moment of Greatness level 1 slot to spontaneously cast CLW:
1d8 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
He then shouts: The wounded can fall back to the side room, it's now clear! We'll take care of the undead!

Male Human Vigilante (Faceless Enforcer) 7

Actually, I answered my first question (a burst does not go around the corners), but I'll rephrase the last one: Will Lucan's touch spell be discharged if I touch his weapon?

-Posted with Wayfinder

Male Human Vigilante (Faceless Enforcer) 7

Wow, did you guys decide to catch up for a week of not posting in a single day?
At this point, I feel both overprepared and limited in my options. I have a few questions:
Can I use my channel energy ability on the zombies from E7? Or it does not work around corners?
Are the ogrekin really dead or unconscious, I.e. will they be healed by channeling?
Since Lucan is holding the charge of a touch spell, will it go off on me if I use a touch ability on him?

Male Human Vigilante (Faceless Enforcer) 7

Round 2
Upon seeing the ogrekin emerging, Andras clutches his holy symbol and utters a loud prayer to Abadar, citing how his favor cannot ever grace such ungainly creatures.
Casting Prayer, allies within 40ft receive +1 luck bonus to Atk, Dmg, saves, skill checks, while enemies get penalties to the same. Duration 7 rounds. Note that Andras and Karla already have luck bonuses up from Divine Favor.

Male Human Vigilante (Faceless Enforcer) 7

I suppose I could just as well roll in advance for the readied attack:
The above effects + Deadly Aim:
Atk: 1d20 + 13 - 2 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 13 - 2 + 5 = 22
Dmg: 1d8 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17

Male Human Vigilante (Faceless Enforcer) 7

Lord Zohan, Shalelu and Zadderk receive Protection from Chaos for 2 minutes, Andras for 1 minute.
Andras swiftly touches the holy symbol hanging from his neck with the stock of his crossbow, calling upon Abadar's might to crush his enemies. This action somehow makes the crossbow seem larger and more menacing, as he trains it on the doorframe over Zadderk's shoulder, waiting for ogres to appear.
Spending 1 more Fervor to cast Weapon of Awe for 7 minutes. 2 Fervor uses left. Readying an action to shoot any enemy appearing in the corridor.
Current effects: Haste, PfC, Divine Favor, Weapon of Awe, possibly IC from Karla.

Male Human Vigilante (Faceless Enforcer) 7

We came from the top. The zombies are off the map, to the left of Serra.

Male Human Vigilante (Faceless Enforcer) 7

DireMerc, I think it might help move things along if you made the map editable by the players so that we could draw/move our tokens?

Anyway, I think the current layout is as follows: Andras, Lord Zohan and possibly Shalelu (if she is still with us?) are definitely in the room at the top. I don't quite know where Zadderk is but I assume he is also with us.
Lucan and Karla have moved forward and are 4-6 squares down the corridor, closer to the dining ogres than to Serra.

Maybe everyone could also roll Init or we can agree that the DM rolls for us?

Male Human Vigilante (Faceless Enforcer) 7

Andras would be up for the amulet after all the melee types have what they need.

Male Human Vigilante (Faceless Enforcer) 7

Oops, I realized I mistyped - I meant Protection from Chaos, not Evil.

Male Human Vigilante (Faceless Enforcer) 7

dat trap... ouch
"So much for stealth", Andras quips as he hears stirring in the rooms occupied by the ogrekin. He quickly utters a ritual formula asking for Abadar's favor. Spending 1 use of Fervor to cast Divine Favor on himself as a swift action
Init: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Assuming Andras is adjacent to at least 2 others or can move into such a position:

Actions:
"Touch me for protection", he whispers as he puts the same ward Withers has received on himself and those who have contact with him. Casting Communal Protection from Evil. If Andras still has a move action left, he'll use it to move within 20ft of Serra.

Otherwise:
Actions:
Still holding the crossbow in one hand, Andras reaches for the healing wand with the other hand and hurries towards Serra.

Male Human Vigilante (Faceless Enforcer) 7

After making sure Withers has received the protective spell (Protection from Chaos, lasts 7 minutes) Andras follows the group into the house, taking the magic amulet from the dead ogrekin's deformed body as he passes by.
Seeing no more enemies apparent, he takes a few moments examining it while Serra is busy scouting ahead.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Unable to identify the item at a quick glance, he moves next to Lord Zohan and quietly passes the amulet to him.

Male Human Vigilante (Faceless Enforcer) 7

Init: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
If necessary, Andras will delay his attack until the ogre is engaged with a melee combatant, either from stealth or openly. He will then circle around the house to get within 30ft and attack with Deadly Aim and Point Blank Shot:

Atk: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15
Dmg: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

"This actually sounds good to me - if there is a trap, it won't harm us, and if an enemy shows up, we'll turn it into a porcupine from here. Unless someone is willing to sneak up on the porch first?"
After some hesitation, he turns to Zadderk. "Perhaps we could also get Dasher to scout out the perimeter and check for any roof entrances?"

-Posted with Wayfinder

Male Human Vigilante (Faceless Enforcer) 7

"Good idea. But we should not linger inside, we can do a thorough search after we made sure both buildings are clear. I can put a protective ward on Withers, but it will only last for a few minutes."
Right before we open one of the doors, Andras will cast Protection from Chaos on Withers

Is the charming fellow on the second image the one we killed before, or is it a spoiler for your next post DM?

"I'd rather say they have not devolved enough to quit using language."
"But from the tactics point of view, we have to decide now: is it better to get ambushed in the house with reinforcements from the barn or vice versa? Don't look at me like that, I'm just trying to plan for the worst-case scenario."

Male Human Vigilante (Faceless Enforcer) 7

"So, looks like this savage brute has somehow managed to wound or capture this bear's master? Given that the Black Arrows' whole purpose was to eradicate ones like him, it doesn't bode well. We should be wary for a trap of some sort."

After a couple of attempts Andras finally gets back on the horseback and follows the party (and the bear's) lead.
