Adelie advances slightly, so that he can still see Mone and he isn’t fully in the cavern. He floats the front line of fighters, and, hitting as many mushrooms as possible while not hitting Talathel or Anzath, casts Ice Slick.

He walks forward and swings morosely at a rat.

If it’s alright with the others, Adelie casts hide campsite as soon as they pick a spot to sleep. It may not fool any intelligent creatures that know the layout this place, but it will provide a bit of concealment.

This human(?) has been residing here in a place crawling with ghouls for who knows how long. We should definitely be expecting tricks and/or extreme strength.

Adelie signs ”Wait a moment. I think we might know who this person is, at least vaguely. The ghoul that we weren’t able to finish interrogating because someone killed it mentioned a madman just down the stairs that the ghouls aren’t allowed to eat. This could be him. And if this is him, it might pay to know why aren’t the ghouls allowed to eat him. I doubt that it’s just because he’s insane. Could Detect Magic reveal anything? Is he protected somehow?”

And why the ghouls haven’t eaten him! I agree, we should try to figure out what’s going on here. Adelie’s used up most of his spells, but he’ll do what he can.

Adelie is still holding Nico. He and Mone could swap with Ipp and Gel if Nico would be better off on Aurora's shoulder, but Adelie wants to stay close enough to Nico that he can prevent any more misadventures.

”I don’t think so. The tunnels are very narrow, and they’ll be difficult for you to navigate. The only advantage I can see to using them is that we’ll enter Rappan Athuk farther in and perhaps avoid that disgusting toilet-monster. Is there any particular reason you don’t want to use the door here? It’s a perfectly good door. We just need to not mess around with it so we don’t squish ourselves.”

To confirm that everything is still working, Adelie retrieves the key from the dwarf statue and opens the mausoleum.

Send her back up, right now, before you scurry off to die. She deserves a chance to learn how to be a functioning person. You had yours, and failed miserably, but it’s not too late for her.”

Adelie attempts to catch Nico and bring her back up to the surface.

Whether or not he is successful, once he’s back up, he writes a short message on a piece of paper, describing the location of the invaders’ fort and the hobgoblin camp. If he can estimate the number of foes at each location, he includes that. He writes that he and his allies intend to enter again into Rappan Athuk, and then casts animal messenger on an appropriate small bird (if he can see one) with the goal of sending it to the wolf druids’ lair.

He calls into the well, ”Do you see anything down there? Just to be clear, Mone and I are definitely not jumping in.”

Adelie investigates the third mausoleum, looking for the tunnel he emerged from earlier.

He knows at least one exit from the tunnels is blocked, and that his companions would have a difficult time squeezing through the narrow passages, but he still wants to confirm that the path is there.
