I may be reanimating (lawl) a long dead thread, but I wiuld argue that the wording is to be interpreted as you get one zombie as created by the extract, wheras the discovery ones are seperate.

well, if you want melee, you would do better with another class. Inquisitors don't have much in the way of weapon proficiencies, excepting ranged ones. if you want melee, I would go Ranger. I also wouldn't worry too much about healing, just explain to your cleric (great RP opportunity) that you have special needs due to a blemish on your bloodline, and that he should take precautions, excepting you from channeling positive energy, preparing inflict wounds, and the like. Personally, were I you, I would stick with inquisitor, but take the Kinslayer archetype. With pharasma as your deity, you should have little difficulty finding a good flavor for your character. Should you still want to have some... sanguinary urges, take the fangs option from the Advance Race Guide, and the blood drinker feat. please note, however, that feeding on the unwilling living is an evil act. for more ideas in that regard, take a look at http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2ozge?Dhampir-Blood-Thirst#1 and http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2ozsg?Dhampir-inquisitor-alignment#1. Good luck, and I hope I helped!

I realize that in most mythologies vampires require no sustenance beyond the life energy found in blood. But, as a Halfling, would I still crave that flagon of mead, or that roast mutton turning slowly over the fire to succulent perfection? Do vampires have functioning taste buds? What of the living survives undeath?

Dark Archive

Certain proficiencies might. I mean, the only reason elves, for example, are proficient with longswords, among other things, is their society and culture. Elven magic might be cultural, and naturally, the language is. What parts of the living parent's race would carry over to the child, and how would aging be effected? If a human dhampir ages like an elf, how does an elven dhampir age?

Dark Archive

Can other races beyond humans produce dhampirs? I know that if I want to, I can house rule it, but I was wondering what some other people thought about it. Thoughts, suggestions?

Dark Archive

Thanks! It's nice that you remember that last one I posted. I just wanted to be sure. I wasn't sure about the law vs chaos axis because of his code as well, but his hunger would conflict with that too, so cool.

ok, so I have been working on a dhampir inquisitor for my wife's Carrion Crown campaign. I went with the kinslayer archetype from the ARG. I also took the fangs trait and the Blood Drinker feat at first level. His patron is Pharasma, and so I need to stay one step from true neutral. My qeustion is this: Although he has a burning hatred for the undead, especially vampires, he tries no to harm innocents as a personal code. However, there are times when his blood thirst becomes too much for him to control, say when he hasn't "fed" in a while and sees someone cut themselves shaving, or in a particularly bloody fight or something like that. So he goes for the source of fresh blood, say if he fights bandits, and just tears into their throats. Where would you put him as far as alighnment. He strives to protect the innocent, but has these sanguinary cravings that counters his code. And to head off what I know to be forthcoming, the feat specifically states that it has to be blood from the living, and one type of humanoid, in this case humans.

As far as the fast healing, i suggest the following I got from a PF compatable pdf.

Quick Healer (Su): You can use fast healing 1 for a number of
rounds per day equal to your character level + your Charisma
modifier. Activating or suppressing this ability is a swift action.
This ability automatically activates if you fall below 0 hit points
but are not killed (if you not used all your available rounds for
the day). At 10th level, this improves to fast healing 2. At 20th
level, this improves to fast healing 5. These rounds do not have
to consecutive.

thanks for the pointers and ideas! i will be sure to look more closely at the dhampir entry in th ARG.

where in the bestiary does it say they do? Undead do not need to sustain themselves. Ghouls do not need to eat humanoid flesh any more than vampires need to drink the blood of the living, at least not for any physical reason. They may have a psychological compulsion due to their undead state, but it is by no means a necrological necessity, if you will pardon the expression.

Dark Archive

Of course, the Count was the best!

Dark Archive

I just want to make a monster hunter period, but focus on vampires. He's trying to find hus undead father, and will kill any and all vampires (after interrogations of course) that he can until he gets to his sire. at the same time though, he has to deal with the fact that he is tainted by his undead heritage, and while it has perks, there are drawbacks, both physical and social. Like Abraham Van Helsing from Dracula (the book, not any of the movies), if he were half vampire. and a badass, instead of just bookish.

Dark Archive

Let's say you are the butcher in this instance.

"Hi, I'd like a pint of pig's blood please."

How would you respond if you had no knowings of wizards, and distrusted strangers immensely?

Dark Archive

Suspicious much? anyway, I recently learned that according to the bestiary, vampires themselves do not even NEED to feed on blood, so niether should dhampirs. so much for that.

My wife is planning on running Carrion Crown, and like almost everyone else on these messageboards, I'm planning on running a Dhampir Inquisitor. My wife is open to 3rd party suppliments rules, and I found one that has it so that the dhampir, while not as keenly as his undead parent, has a need to drink the blood of his foes.

The Thirst for Blood wrote:

Different races have idiosyncrasies that open up interesting roleplaying opportunities. Gnomes often have an innate verbose loquacity that befuddles outsiders. Dwarves are well known as gruff, thick‐voiced ale‐lovers. Elves often appear as serene, aloof, even self‐aggrandized academics.
However, playing a dhampir brings its own unique challenge. Despite the fact that they eat normal food, dhampir feel a diminished version of the burning thirst for blood that drives vampires to kill and feed.
A dhampir can go for one week plus a number of days equal to his Constitution score without tasting fresh blood. After this time, the character must make a Constitution check each day (DC 10 +1 for each previous check) or become fatigued. A fatigued dhampir must continue to make additional daily Constitutions checks until he drinks at least one pint of fresh blood. If he fails a subsequent check, he becomes exhausted until he drinks at least two pints of fresh blood.
Some dhampir — those with the fangs alternate racial trait, the oracle’s vampiric blood drain revelation or the Thirst for Blood heritage feat — feel the thirst for blood more keenly than their fellows. Such individuals suffer a ‐1 penalty to their Constitutions check for each of the aforementioned conditions they possess.

Based on the rules above, if my character were to feed on someone for the purposes of sustaining himself to continue his fight against the monsters of the world, would that be an evil act? and if he were to fail his check enough, I was imagining a kind of blood rage, similar to what Seras (Police Girl) from the anime Hellsing underwent. How would something like this work, and what abilities would this bloodrage replace to balance it?

Anyway...I do have a Human Pharasma Inquisotor in my Campain and the impact really depends how he is played. In the beginning he came on hight an might and overarrogant...didnt go down well with the Townfolk. Turning Point was the FalseCrypte. He went to the Pharasma Temple and DEMANDED the key. I had him have a privat conversation with Father GrimSomething(cant remember right now) and put him down to his level. Even if he is an Inquisitor of Pharasma, he is:
a) first level
b) unimportant
c) unknown here
d) and he &%^*#&$@ dosnt give me (Father) and orders.
Atfer that I talked to the Player and ask him if we was a private in the Army and went to a Captain and demanded the Key to the Armory...just what does he think would happend. That finaly DID the trick and he was finaly a bit more nice.

As far as the campain goes....he works out quite well.

I have a slight problem with how that was handled, in that Inquisitors are members of the church that are set above all the others. rules do not apply to them. A more accurate example would be a rookie secret service agent walking up to a captain in the Army and demanding the key due to a matter of national security.

Fantastic, that is funny for reasons I probably shouldn't go into!

But I like the idea of a "work in progress gun," or the gunsmith kit. I was just trying to think of a way to do it without handwaving it, but it seems I may need to. Just creatively. Thanks for the advice!

Dark Archive

Elamdri, just dropping the free gun into his lap seems kinda boring to me, like shark repellant in Batman's utility belt.

However, I do like the idea Petty Alchemy put forth... I will need to think on it...

Dark Archive

I have a player with a tiefling bard who want's to multiclass to a gunslinger to give his character almost a western feel. I wouldn't have a problem with this, but for the free battered gun at first level. I don't want to tell him he can't do it, but I am unsure how to let him do it beyong just dropping a gun into his lap via loot from foes or have him buy one via black market or something. Ideas? Thanks.

I thought you had to pick whether or not your favored class bonus was hp or skill points and stick with it?

my suggestion without revealing too much about what is to come in the AP hopefully. heavy armor classes are going to have a bit of a rough time in that AP so anything that may help you get your AC up and drop armor check penalty will deffinately be pretty helpful. as far as multiclassing Oracle is fantastic for paladins although your bard idea probably isnt too bad either thinking about it

as far as warrior of holy light i wouldent say take it. your only going to get to aroud level 15 - 16 (unless your friend descided to continue after the AP is over) so some of the better benefits you gain just wont become available to you and giving up all of your palladin spells for 2 lay on hands per day just seems like its crippling.

I already thought about the heavy armor bit from reading the fighter entry in the player's guide, so he's wearing a chain shirt. I really like the idea of the paladin/bard, moreso than the oracle, but I appreciate the input on that.

Dark Archive

And I just thought of an additional question: How worth it is the Warior of Holy Light Archetype?

*Min/Max advice.

One popular multi-class is the Lore oracle's Sidestep Secret. Which allows you to use your Cha in place of Dex for armor. (Or the nature oracle's version.)

Take that and you can end up with a ton of AC.

Lore and nature are not domains of Iomedae, and though Oracles devote themselves to aspects of deities, if I were to go that route, (now I'm thinking about it) I would choose Iomedae's domains.

I recently made an aasimar paladinfor my friend's Serpent's Skull game, and was curious as to which, if any multiclass or prestige class options would be good. Classic sword and board right now, and his deity is Iomedae. I was thinking maybe sprinkling bard in there, using the hymns of the Inheritor to inspire my comerades, and maybe the Inheritor's Crusader Prc. Thoughts? Also, mount or bonded sword?

Dark Archive

Okay, so I know I said Half elf rogue, but I wish to play a half-elf sorcerer, infernal bloodline. That is, unless somebody else wants to go arcane caster. It doesn't matter all that much to me.
