Waiting on Jing as the tiebreaker, thought for clarification I'll tell the same thing as I told my other table.
You would know that both factions have a strong hatred towards each other, while they live amicably, they would never be caught working with each other. The party would not have the influence and reputation to force them into unity. But you can choose to remain neutral
But remaining neutral is going to be more detrimental to your cause, cause it means you gain no favours from either faction. As a GM I have some hidden worldbuilding elements i have to track, mainly 'influence' and 'reputation', and it's independent for each faction.
If we don't hear from Jing soon, would the party like to remain neutral? roll a dice? or does someone want to swap votes?
Also I have uploaded a map of downtown, chapter 2 will be a dungeon crawl. So let me know if there is an order in which the party would like to explore downtown, that would help me move things along and we don't spend too much time just posting flavour text when there's nothing of significance to note in the building.
Yue Baihe
Yue is not charismatic enough to win a debate, so in absence of Jing's player expressing Jing's opinion one way or the other, the Northridge voters could force their choice on him.

I will be camping on Friday and Saturday, with zero internet connection. Will be back to usual on Sunday!
Lady Lao - Lao Li Mao
Have fun, GM!
Lady Lao will wait for Jing's vote and accept what happens. If we end up tied even with Jing, then we're staying neutral.
As for order, it would kind of depend on what Granny Hu/Old Matsuki can tell us about the situation downturn. With absolutely no information whatsoever, maybe we should just start from the Northwest building and work our way around left to right and top to bottom?
Zhēnzǐ
Have a fun time camping. :)
Yue Baihe
If I'm understanding the terrain on the map, I'd say go clockwise starting from southeast to reduce backtracking.
Yue Baihe
Working with Zhēnzǐ not knowing about Southbank's 'unspoken discrimination' regarding unusual races like Jing's and his own until Lady Lao mentions it.
I can't find any reference to it in the Player's Guide. It may just be Lao's personal IC bias.
GM Batpony
|
I was wondering if that was my fault, and went back to read my notes/post. I did use the word 'reservation' as opposed to 'discrimination'.
There would not be any form of discrimination like stoning or name calling from the traditionalist. More like they want to keep the town as is, and prefer that no changes happen, are highly unsure of outsiders, because they have been living like that since 99 years a go. There are unusual races in Southbank, even the nine tail shrine is located in south side. So it's not like they are actively pushing people out either.
As the story progresses, there will be some more obvious narrative attitudes that the party will learn of the factions and their leaders, and multiple opportunities to support either or neither. So I wouldn't overly spend too much time dwelling on this moment.
Lady Lao - Lao Li Mao
Let's call it Lady Lao's bias - whether or not its substantiated, a lie or a former noble taking offence at everything and calling it bias who can tell.
I think we still need Jing and Yue to level up before we can move on.
Zhēnzǐ
I put quotation marks around 'unspoken discrimination' in gameplay for a reason - that is how Zhēnzǐ interprets Lady Lao's words regarding the residents of Southbank. Zhēnzǐ has no reason to doubt Lady Lao's assessment of the Southbank residents.
Discrimination in its basic minimialistic forms includes 'not picking a person because' of how they look instead of their character/expertise/experience in a relevant topic.
Great campaign start, everyone. :)
I think the group knows where five of us live now (Jing, Lady Lao, Zhēnzǐ)... and if that is correct, the group (as a whole) does not know which side (north or south) of the river the other two members of our group (Denkō and Yue) live on.

Running a full on campaign on PBP has it's challenges, but I'm keen to make sure we all have a good time. Running it parallel to an f2f game has made for a very interesting comparison.
At the same description of the bridge, the other party assumed the Buso was just cooking and eating people, decided to forgo meeting granny and dived straight into the bridge before realising ah, its just alcohol. There was also an hours worth of arguing over how to cross the river.
Back to our story, once everyone has updated the macros and their character sheets we'll start resolving the exploration, but in the meantime, feel free to continue RP if there's anything you'd like to know / learn more about the town and it's people.
Zhēnzǐ
For wrapping up Chapter 1, I am looking forward to what each of the rest of you (if your characters choose to) add as a toast for the impromptu toasting.
@GM: What ended the hour long argument at your live table for crossing the river?
How many of the PCs were pulled underneath the surface of the water by the haunt?
GM Batpony
|
I mean there was another side of the debate about whether they spend time looking for boats, or use the dam, and when they got to the dam some of them were like , no dont use the dam, its a trap, based on absolutely no information other than the bad feeling about the waters. They did trigger the dam anyway, and Two decided to acrobatically scale across the dam, one decided to swim, and two decided to watch. 1 PC got pulled down by the haunt, and then the one that didn't swim nat 20 in calming the haunt with a trained religion. I wouldnt say the debate ended, but people decided to do their own way to cross the dam in close proximity to each other.
Lady Lao - Lao Li Mao
We honestly could have ended up arguing for IRL days about how to cross the river if someone felt strongly about the boat option.

Last time I'm at my computer before travelling! Hopefully when I'm back Yue and Jing have updated their character sheets to level 2 and we can start chapter 2! Have a good weekend everyone.
GM Batpony

I'm back! I'll reach out to Jing and see if he is ready.
Yue Baihe
I thought those were cliffs on the map, so if we're going to be starting at B1, we can go counter clockwise. B1, 16, 17, 13, 9, etc.

I played around with the Treasure tab, whatever not claimed by PCs at the opportunity of 'selling', I'll remove them from the treasure list and distribute GP equally to the party. And during the clean up, I'll assume that whatever PC has claim will be managed in their inventory and removed from the treasure list.
If I'm correct in understanding the rules: Equipment to be sold at half price, and other treasures at full price unless otherwise noted.
Zhēnzǐ
If no one else is interested in the cantrip deck, Zhēnzǐ would like it.
Does anyone else have an interest in cantrip deck?
I suggest Zhēnzǐ take the second lesser antidote (as he can deliver use his actions to get it in hand and move to others so they have more actions of their action economy on their turn).
There is one lesser darkvision elixir.
Who has darkvision as part of their normal senses?
Who has the ability to cast light sources at-will?
If Zhēnzǐ has the cantrip deck, he will have one use of the light spell.
Does Denkō want to take any of the weapons? If so, does he want some of the potency crystals for the weapon(s) he takes?
weapons not claimed: 1 kukri, 4 javelins, 1 shortsword
We should retain the spirit trap, as we are dealing with spirits. Which one of you want to have it in your gear.
Does our ranger want the materials for the 2 common snares?
@GM: What is 'student leather armor'? What is the silver scepter set?

Trade goods (equipment) I think still retain full value for reselling in PF2E.

studded leather armor, typo.
Silver scepter set was just a bunch of jewels found at the throne of the buso. Pure decorative treasure.
Characters can usually buy and sell items only during downtime. An item can typically be sold for only half its Price, though art objects, gems, and raw materials can be sold for their full Price (page 271).
I believe trade goods falls under raw materials.
Lady Lao - Lao Li Mao
I'm ok with Zhenzi taking the antidote and maybe Jing taking 2 crystals, but I'd rather Lady Lao follow directly behind Yue so that she can close the gap faster.
As for the Jinkins, leave them - from experience if we kill the main evil guy they will scatter.
Yue Baihe
If Jing wants them, that's fine, but I'm not sure what a primary caster is going to do with one. However, if he doesn't speak up, we'll go with the split discussed in character.
Denkō the kobold
I've got darkvision so no particular need there, and I don't really have much to do with weapons. I'm fine just getting the pots, maybe a bit more gold if it comes down to that.
Jing "Sly Eyes"
|
Jing only has low-light vision, so I guess I could hold on to darkvision if we go somewhere really dark.
I have no use for potency crystals. There is never a reason to use the weapons over casting cantrips.
Lady Lao - Lao Li Mao
If the RK on Kappas was a failure, Lady Lao still gets one truth and one lie about them due to Dubious Knowledge.
You’re a treasure trove of information, but not all of it comes from reputable sources. When you fail (but don’t critically fail) a Recall Knowledge check using any skill, you learn the correct answer and an erroneous answer, but you don’t have any way to differentiate which is which. This can occur as knowing something is significant, but not whether it’s good or bad.
Apologies for not bringing that up with my initial post. Feel free to give me a fat lie
Yue Baihe
I am mildly amused, I mean when I wrote sticky I did meant it to be stuck but not actually have the feeling of stickiness.
It is a bathhouse...
Lady Lao - Lao Li Mao
"I think I was born eleven years ago. I remember one season of snow on the ground before arriving in town. Jubei told me she fed me hazelnuts for the first five years before the Great Willow granted me my new life five years ago."
Wait a second...
1 squirrel year is like 10 human years. If Zhenzi is 11 human years old, that makes him 110 in squirrel years...
Is Zhenzi the oldest person in the party?
Yue Baihe
As soon as he picked up words like, "kissing" and "smooth skin," he was Nope!-ing out of there. ;)
Zhēnzǐ

No, he is either the youngest or second youngest (depending on how old Denkō is).
"Adult squirrels can have a lifespan of 5 to 10 years in the wild. Some can survive 10 to 20 years in captivity."
In pathfinder 2e what is the lifespan of an awakened squirrel?
Click the link a few times, as it will generate different responses. Most/all of them include that being awakened extends the lifespan of the awakened squirrel.
I have been envisioning Zhēnzǐ as being the equivalent of fifteen year old human when he awakened (the same age as the baseline youngest age for the random aging tables for human adventurers), and aging (biologically and mentally) at the same rate as a human since his awakening.
As the more important thing is how many years he has been awakened for (which has been for five years before the campaign started), and not the time before he was awakened, if you prefer we can make it that he arrived in Willowshore one year before Jubei (and her friends) awakened him. He still arrived in Willowshore during/at the end of his first year of life (which would make him 2 (or nearly 2) when he was awakened.
Lady Lao - Lao Li Mao
That makes sense, thanks for clarifying.
I think we can take 6 drunken jinkin. Let's start fighting, I want to try out my new level 2 stuff and see what you all can do.
GM Batpony

I'll roll initiatives as soon as someone does a hostile act!
Zhēnzǐ
You're welcome for the clarification, Lady Lao.
Thanks for the feedback, GM.
A small retcon:
Zhēnzǐ said he remembers two winters before being awakened: one before he arrived in town and one in town before he was awakened by Jubei.
Born in spring, summer or autumn. first winter.
Before second winter his family was killed by something, which was when Zhēnzǐ ran and ran and wound up in Willowshore.
He was a regular squirrel during first winter in Willowshore.
Sometime between first and second winter in Willowshore he was awakened by Jubei.
There have been five winters since he was awakened.
So in-game he would have said he was seven winters old (instead of 11 winters old).
Denkō the kobold
Here I go robbing y'all of your combat once again, my bad lol. I fr gotta start reading in here before I post in gameplay, my bad. Funny enough I'm in a shadowrun group with a similar "problem" of us resolving almost everything before it gets to combat despite half the roster (including me) being built exclusively for violence.
Denkō's 28 btw, solidly middle aged for a kobold given they max out around 60.
Lady Lao - Lao Li Mao
I think Lady Lao's okay with solving things with words. Saves her the effort of getting her hands dirty. It's the player who is a bit annoyed. I think it kinda works for a RP heavy AP to solve problems through RP and skill checks.
Lady Lao's likely still the oldest then. Not entirely sure how old the GM wants her to be, but she thinks she's 50+, closer to 60.
Lady Lao - Lao Li Mao
Oh yes, forgot to mention that the Recall Knowledge would have Dubious Knowledge modifying the results.

I'm actually really happy with the pace of the PBP, for the time being the group is staying ahead of my IRL game that meets every two weeks.
It's always a struggle for me to decide how much information to reveal at a time so that the game doesn't move too fast or too slow, if there's any feedback I'm always happy to incorporate. And I'm personally surprised at how much more ooc discussions happen.
Moving off current map to teahouse I would say is a situation that is not as simple as moving from room to room in a map, from the in character text, I believe Lady Lao strongly suggest keeping to clearing the map, others are curious about the tea house but not enough to actually actively move to the teahousea?
Lady Lao - Lao Li Mao
No, I'm pretty satisfied with how things are going so far. I'm trying to post a little less myself to let other players have a say in how things go, but I understand that consistent posting is important to keep the game alive.
Lady Lao would strongly suggest clearing the map first before attending to the teahouse. She doesn't want to be pincered by reinforcements.
Yue Baihe
I think we're still in 24 hours since the shrines, but I might have missed a night. I think I misread originally, going back I'm confirming the healing d8+8 was something that happened to Yue immediately, not a rider on the guidance effect?
Lady Lao - Lao Li Mao
We will want to free the guards first.
I don't think we can get back to the Guards in B4 without passing through the parade, so a fight will have to happen first.
Zhēnzǐ
Zhēnzǐ wrote:We will want to free the guards first.I don't think we can get back to the Guards in B4 without passing through the parade, so a fight will have to happen first.
Yes, we can...
The external door is locked, but there are bunch of keys on the keyring the group just found.
Head back into the building via B6, then B4 (free the guards), then B3, then B2,
then
1) wait for parade spirit to pass by, then go to bathhouse to deal with kappa
OR
2) go outside to deal with parade spirit (and possibly kappa and other threats in town that join the parade spirit)

Ah forgot to answer this, but the healing was an immediate effect. The guidance is a separate thing.
If there's anything as a GM I would remind you in this moment, is while the guards are a health, until they take a long rest, they are enfeebled 3, and are currently without armour and weapons. If the intent is to eliminate the parade, it would be now or they would just continue passing by.
Lady Lao - Lao Li Mao
Oh, that actually changes things. Thanks Zhenzi.
I (the player) would want violence, but to be honest I've kinda been playing Lady Lao as a someone tricksy enough to avoid violence instead of take it head on, so...
Changing my vote to wait until the parade passes.
Lady Lao - Lao Li Mao
Jing brings up a good point.
Yue, between you or me, do you want the +1 Spear? It's almost certainly a temporary weapon for us to use until we can transfer the rune, but its still an upgrade over our current weapons.
I'd say you should have it - my weapons are inherently magical but your stick isn't. You can have the Frost Vials too and the silver shortsword.
Yue Baihe
Definitely agree on the silver shortsword since you can trip weaknesses with Exploit. Probably agree Yue should take the spear in case we encounter something incorporeal--though that would suck at this level.
Frost vials should go to someone with better ranged attack modifier. :)
