Manjit slowly moves away from the others towards the dwarf who seems to be in charge. He raises his hands as he moves away from the other.

"Easy there cutter...no need for blood. What do you want?"

Moved on map

Wraith gives the man a confused, incredulous look. He waits for an answer to Manjit's question.

"I hate leaving home." Tatyana muttered to herself as she sunk into her seat to make herself as small as possible. She hated fighting, all forms of physical confrontation really, but she had an idea to nip this in the bud if she could first keep out of sight.

The dwarf begins to back up away from manjit. See, something st-ULP!
A heavy wave hammers into the side of the ship, causing it to rock and heave. Everyone instinctively reaches out to catch hold of something to steady themselves...
The dwarf, however, caught mid step between two chairs, misses planting his foot and begins to fall backwards. His hands, hidden beneath his poncho, flair out, pinwheeling in an attempt to keep his balance.
however, it isnt the dwarf's actions that catches your eyes....

it's the olive drab with yellow stencil lettering steel ball fly out of his hand and

gently smacks into Manjit's chest before falling to the deck.

the troll screams out GRENADE! before turning around and leaping backwards over a row of seats.

At Gnossi's request Abĭss had been moving to dispose of the loathesome Dwarf, to glad to have a reason to jettison the garbage overboard that was giving him itches that he would rather not have. Then things suddenly changed. His ears perked but not because of what he heard but because of what he was not hearing. He activates his ultrasonic emitter and momentarily shifts his perceptions to view the magical world noting everything that he can and reacting quickly to position himself to be ready to protect Tatyanna as well as launch a counter offensive.

He then readied himself for what might come.

GM:
Note: Abĭss gets 3 Initiative Passes (aka 3 full actions) every turn where most non-augmented folks only get 1.

Further not only can he Assense (see the magical world) but he has Thermographic Vision and Ultrasonic Hearing which basically gives him a sort of bat-like sense allowing him to perceive his physical surroundings without needing to see them.

Also due to his unique enhanced hearing I figured with 1 success he would notice the sound change. Might not perceive everything else unless that TN 2 was to notice an invisible guy moving through the room. For to him that guy would not have been invisible to his bat-like hearing ability.

Assense: 7d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 2, 5, 4, 3, 2) = 22

Lastly being able to get 3 actions in a turn, would he be able to get to the grenade and toss it out the door (I would love to just put it under the Dwarf if allowed but would settle with tossing it out the door) before it went off. The delay on a time delay grenade is usually about 4 seconds or perhaps just about enough time for 2 of his 3 Initiative Passes.

If that is not doable then what would be his options and is Tatyana in a protected spot from the grenade?

Oh and yeah I need to post my completed character sheet sorry, try to get that up tomorrow.

OK, I have 3 passes as an adept as well, so I think, being closest to the grenade (as it sounds like it basically bounced off me), that I could grab it and toss it outside, or barring that, maybe knock it towards the troll??

im going to say that, since youve been afk due to work, your character has been hanging around in the background, but not participating in anything. Since youre reacting now, after the rogue wave and grenade, you can only react to that. so, your character is back with the rest of the group and is not sneaking up on the dwarf.

[ooc]to clarify. The dwarf lost balance, and fell back. as he fell back, his arm pinwheeled to get balance and he accidentally tossed the grenade. it flew out and smacked manjit in the chest before falling to the ground.

we are going to do some playtesting.

the combat system for shadowrun is definitly a tabletop, designed to be played at a table. Which makes initiative passes real easy to manage. everyone is there and theres no down time.

however, here on the boards, it a bit different. Combat can drag out to super slow if players are waiting for one player to post, and it gets worse if said player isnt able to get online for a day or two without notice.

i dont want us to get bogged down waiting for people.

so, i think what i am going to do is ditch the initiative rolls. but we are going to keep the initiate passes.

There are a couple ways we could manage initiative passes with posting combat actions.

for our example, we are going to say that Gnoss, manjit, and Wraith are in a 7-11, and some go gangers (5) roll in and start trashing the place. Gnoss has 1 initiative pass, Wraith has 2, manjit has 3. Wraith and Manjit are each carrying HMGs, while gnoss is carrying a revolver.

possible solution number 1: People with multiple passes post the entirety of their actions in a single post. meaning theyd get all the complex, the simple, the standard actions, free actions, all boiled down into singular posts.
how would this look?
Manjit goes first. he posts his three initiative passes. Each initiative pass has a Complex action available. Manjit lifts his HMG and fires full auto at the gangers. Three of them are liquified.
Wraith goes second. Wraith has two init passes. he lifts his hmg. he liquifies two more.
all gangers are gone.
gnoss doesnt participate in combat....

or,
option 2:
Everyone is able to post their actions.
people with multiple init passes, they declare their first pass action "this is 1st pass" or something.
they do their aciton.
then they say "2nd pass action, if such is still up, i will do another action"
And i, on my end, would compile the first round actions into a combat summary, and then take and apply the 2nd pass actions, and (for manjit) then the third.

taking the example from above.
Manjit says "1st pass, i shoot. 2nd pass, i shoot. 3rd pass i toss grenade"
gnoss says "1st pass, i shoot"
wraith says" 1st pass, i shoot. 2nd pass, i move down aisle to flank"

i, the dm, then type up
"1st pass actions. manjit shoots, gnoss shoots, wraith shoots. bad guys shoots
"2nd pass, manjit shoots, Wraith moves down aisle"
3rd pass, manjit tosses grenade.
end combat

my biggest concern i am trying to avoid is combat slowing down the game.

so, my thinking is we give both options a try and see which option you guys prefer

"I will always strive to write better" , 25 years gaming, 20 yrs DM

alright. let's start with option one. everyone posts all their initiative pass actions in a single post. let's see how that looks

Male Human

Initiative: 8d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 6, 1, 1, 6, 2, 5) = 27

OCC: Okay why does Abĭss only have 2 Initiative Passes? Everyone gets 1 Initiative Pass for free and Abĭss augments this with his enhanced reflexes by 2 for a total of 3 Initiative Passes.

Reacting to the dwarf dropping a grenade, Manjit reacts swiftly by first catching the grenade that bounced off his chest.

Agility(5) + Reaction(6) (TN4): 11d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 4, 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 3, 3, 6) = 29

With the grenade in hand, Manjit decides to teach the dwarf a little lesson about trying to utilize an explosive against his comrades. Reaching out, the warrior grabs the dwarf and stuffs the grenade down his trousers.

Unarmed (+2 Situation): 13d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 3, 2, 1, 5, 4, 4, 5, 2, 5, 3, 4) = 41

With his last action, Manjit shoves the dwarf away from him and the others to the ship's far side as he suddenly notices the pink bubble around them.

Unarmed + Str: 14d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 4, 2, 3, 2, 6, 6, 6, 4, 2, 4, 2, 2) = 51

im going to say that manjit's first pass, since he failed in scooping up the grenade at the first action, he instead uses his second to pick it up.

Manjit blurs into action!
that is the only way to describe it, for he just suddenly moved super fast!
one moment he was standing still, and the next, he was movement!
His hands flailed about, attempting to grasp at the grenade, only to have it slip past his fingers and land on the ground. he quickly crouches picks it up. Stepping forward, he easily swats aside the dwarfs waving hands and stuffs the grenade down it's pants.

A pink bubble suddenly surrounds both the dwarf and Manjit, entrapping the both of them inside a barrier!

As wraith begins to draw his blade, the man who holds a gun on him suddenly leaps atop of Wraith, attempting to drag him to the ground.

grapple: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 6) = 15 two hits! Wraith, you may make an opposed unarmed check. You beat two hits, you can resist the knockdown attempt.

Gnoss pulls her bow out and trains it in the direction of the troll who lays hunkered behind the row of seats on the ferry...

Tatyana curls her self up, getting as tiny as possible...

no explosion
no thunderous noise

OCC: Okay with IPs resolved and Abĭss basically ready to act I will complete his actions.

Abĭss moves quickly and gets into a position so he can see the Troll, and not being the forgiving sort uses his Ares Predator to put an end to the Troll. Confident that the others would take care of the Dwarf and that human that was no where to be seen.

Pass One Move to get LoS on the Troll while drawing his Ares Predator IV from its Quick Draw holster to put a few rounds into him. Use a simple action to take Aim at a portion of the body without armor such as the head or whatever else is the best target that will put this Troll out of action.

I need to figure out exactly what I can do and how I can do it unless someone wants to give me the sequence in detail. Will try and post tomorrow.

"I will always strive to write better" , 25 years gaming, 20 yrs DM

alright. let's pause the action there and restart, but trying out the posting your IP actions separately

also, ive been pondering some thing. Doing the combat, one of the aspects thats different from pathfinder/3.5 is that there is no declared AC. Instead, rolls are done by both parties to determine hits and damage applied. In shadowrun, players, for defense, will have the option to roll dodge in an attempt to negate hits from opponents. Again, this is something that is fine for a table top situation, but for a pbp, it can bog combat down.
so, what id like to do have everyone roll their Dodge or gymnastics rolls when they post. thisll make it easier for us to quickly determine how many hits apply to damage rolls.

another thing. concerning dice pools. Sometimes some actions may be affected by external situations resulting in modifiers. For the vast majority of these situations, ill be able to tell you what your modifiers will be, and youll be able to adjust and roll the proper numbers. But, for combat, rather than having to wait for me to post, i thought of a solution. What players will do is, when they make their rolls, they will simply roll their entire dice pool. this website lists every individual roll result, as shown below. If modifiers will need to be applied, what i will do is remove the dice neccessary from the roll, starting from the right, and work backwards.

for example: Manjit is trying to dodge some bullets from the Troll in the corner. He rolls his dodge skill, shown below. However, his shoelaces are tied due to Gnoss glitching a magic spell. Manjit moves to evade the shots, but due to the tied shoelaces, he is inhibited. Id say that this incurs a -2 modifier to his dice poll.

example roll: 10d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 4, 5, 1, 5, 3, 3, 1, 5) = 31

since manjit has already prerolled, i can simply take the two results from the right, which are a 5, 1. Therefore, his net results in dodging the bullets changes from 3 hits to 2 hits.

OCC: How do you want to work Edge then as that is something that usually depends on the preceived number of success achieved in the roll? Oh and yeah I concur, PbP with Shadowrun can be a bit more complicated in figure out how to do the interactive rolling that takes place during combat.

Having planned to execute the Troll since the Dwarf was occupied and the other body was no where to be seen.
