Survival: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 6 + 1 = 25
Coracle tethers himself to the foc's'le, where he can see the seas ahead. He calls out directions and warnings to the crew to help the ship find the safest route through the storm.
GM Hmm |
Gnimish, Coracle Jibbs, Jig and Chirrit all successfully enact emergency measures, each gaining a repair point!
★ --- ★ --- ★ --- ★
Just adding this to the next page
Phase Two−Emergency Measures:
With the hull damage identified, you need to face the danger of the storm as they stabilize the outside of the ship prior to full repairs. You can attempt an Easy Crafting check to patch the most damaged areas, or an Average Nature or Survival check to chart a path that will protect the ship from further damage, of a skill check of your choice at a harder DC.
GM Hmm |
Keri crafts successfully, earning a Repair Point!
Schnek, want to give us a Survival check? (Plus 1 since you'd be navigating!)

Schek assesses the stormy situation and quickly scribbles the path they will be taking. "We be going this way!" he instructs the captain of the ship.
"Safest way, ye see! Keeps the ship still whole!"
Survival: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 5 + 1 = 26
GM Hmm |
Ooh, nicely timed critical success!
Full Success!
The emergency measures allow time for 1 hour of repair work in the next phase.
★ --- ★ --- ★ --- ★
Phase Three−Permanent Fixes:
The temporary stabilization provides enough support for you to create longer-term fixes, including using a fast-setting tar for additional waterproofing and reinforcing weak boards.
You can attempt Crafting checks at the Average DC, with each attempt taking 10 minutes. So... feel free to make up to 6 Crafting checks, or propose an appropriate lore for this task. Keri, here's your chance to shine!
Coracle Jibbs |
Just checking to make sure I understand: does that mean we get 6 checks per PC, one for each 10 minutes?
And would Sailing Lore be an appropriate substitute skill? Coracle's no builder, but he has worked on ships his whole life (sailor background), which is a lot of hard labor.

WHALERUNNER MISSION 2: PINCER ATTACK
Eando Kline pulls a splinter from his arm. He stares exhausted across the sea. “Can't say that's my favorite wake-up call,” he mutters. “Hand me the bandages.” Before he has a moment to accept them, the sound of the Snapdragon scraping against rocks makes him pause. “New task,” he says with barely a blink. “Figure out what that sound is.”
Terrible sounds come from the starboard side of the ship, like metal scraping the top layer of varnish off wood. The foul odor of decaying seaweed follows from the same side, then a sputtering roar.
★ --- ★ --- ★ --- ★
Use the map on slide 21 for this encounter. This map presents a side view of the Snapdragon's starboard side. The rigging has an Easy Climb DC for the rigging, and the platforms that the rigging attaches to are 5 feet wide. The Climb DC for the ship's hull without the rigging is the Average DC.
Environment: The Eye continues to rage around the PCs as they fight through the storm. PCs take a –2 circumstance penalty on Acrobatics and Stealth checks during this encounter, as the decks are slick.
★ --- ★ --- ★ --- ★
As you peer over the side of the ship, you see a draconic creature clambering up its side, and several watery scamps leaping in the water.

The dragon holds up its arms. "Alright, don't hurt me! Maybe I can give you some intel on the enemies out there that are not as sane as I am. Wanna hear about Enava and Sharkskin?" The dragon tells you, "Enava as a woman that looks like a human but smells like a demon, and Sharkskin as a person that looks like a demon but smells like a human."
He frowns. "Enava promised me that if I captured the captain of the Snapdragon, she would grant me an island lair filled with Ghol-Gani treasures! But as cool as a lair of my own would be, it's not worth dying over."
If you want to make a Society or some sort of Bardic Lore check here, feel free.

And while I am going to give you all a chance to make those Society checks and do some healing afterwards, I am going to fling you into the next mission as well.
WHALERUNNER MISSION 5: REFINING MEMORIES
In the captain's quarters, Calisro wrings water out of her hat. “We found these potions in that locked chest,” she says as she flops her hat back on her head. “I drank one and saw the Whippoorwill under attack from the beast that just hit us. There's a dozen more bottles. Take some time and see if there's more to learn.”
She goes on to tell you, "The potions discovered in the Whippoorwill's hold were potions of shared memories that captured the final moments of Captain Kimma Atyi, First Mate Averill Quint, and the rest of the crew." She smiles sadly. "I guess this is one way we can have a final drink with them, eh?" As Calisro hands the potions over, she mentions they're important last moments of the crew, so by rights they should go to the next of kin. However, given the emergency the Snapdragon is in, she'll make any needed apologies once they're back on land.
