Knowledge Arcana to identify: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Hoping it's some kind of construct/guardian but I want to make sure. Looking for Resistances/immunities/vulnerabilities. That will decide my action this turn.
| GM Warah |
Lanel instantly recognizes that this is a type of construct known as a "robot".
As soon as Maddie and Gozrog get within 20 feet of the archway, two ports fire tiny needles attached to wires at them. (They're located on the wall above the arch, despite looking like they're floating in empty space on the map.) The wires then immediately begin retracting into their respective ports with a faint whirring sound.
Yellow Port vs. Maddie, AC 19: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Electricity damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Maddie: Give me a DC 13 Fort save vs. the staggered condition.
Magenta Port vs. Gozrog, AC 20: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Miss
Egg and Inlé chip away at the medium metal monstrosity. Maddie's strike hits but seems to do nothing, and Egg's doesn't do as much damage as he expected. Inlé's acid has no such problem, though. (Hardness.) Brae and The Black Rabbit are unable to hit the robot.
With the Pathfinders right up in its face, the green machine drops its crossbow and draws a longsword, slashing at... 1 TBR; 2 Maddie; 3 Brae; 4 Gozrog: 1d4 ⇒ 1 ...The Black Rabbit!
Green longsword vs. TBR AC 16: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23
Slashing damage vs. TBR: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Round 1
Lanel shares what he knows about this thing and muttering under his breath how much electricity sucks (he doesn't have any) and will shoot with his crossbow.
Light Crossbow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
piercing dmg: 1d8 ⇒ 680ft
Round 2
"Okay guys, better stay out of the blast zone!" He rushes forward, cowering a bit when he crosses in front of the masks, and positions himself to cast an specialized Burning Hands.
Burning Hands DC16: 5d4 + 5 ⇒ (3, 4, 4, 1, 1) + 5 = 18

Move action to gain the benefit of improved grapple via martial flexibility
Maddie will attempt to initiate a grapple dropping the lit torch and releasing her grip on the shield.
Improved grapple cmb vs cmd: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22-4 if unable to let go of the shield as well
Maddie's voice booms "THE THING THAT SHOT AT ME WAS ELECTRIFIED"
Gozrog

Rabbit/Frog Combo Attack! Eventually...
Seeing that bare steel does not function, Gozrog raises her trident into the air, and violet sparks surround the tines. She prepares to strike when the Black Rabbit creates an opening.
storm strike - +1d4 electricity damage for 10 rounds
| GM Warah |
Lanel's bolt barely pierces the metal (1 damage gets through). Moments later, he burns the robot to a crisp. The goo splattering it blackens and lets off an acrid smell as its legs collapse under it. The torso hits the metal floor with a solid <thunk> that reverberates through the room.
Maddie and Gozrog can retcon their actions.
The next instant, two more ports fire wire-bound needles at 1 Egg; 2 TBR; 3 Maddie; 4 Brae; 5 Gozrog; 6 Lanel: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 5) = 10 Gozrog. (I didn't roll during Round 1 because they targeted the first two to enter their range.)
Cyan Port vs. Gozrog AC 20: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 Miss
Orange Port vs. Gozrog AC 20: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17 Miss
Fortunately both needles ping off Gozrog's armor. The wires immediately begin retracting the needles back into the ports. By this time, the ports that fired first have fully retracted their wire-bound needles.
We'll stay in initiative until this trap is no longer a threat to the party.

Hearing the metallic plinks of Gozrog's armor deflect these newly deployed wires Maddie steps forward trapping a wire underfoot(the one that leads to the cyan-marked port on the slide) before dropping her torch and grabbing the wire with both hands. "Goz grab the other! We'll tie them together
| GM Warah |
@Brae, I'll apply your Disable Device check on one port (please select which one) if someone uses their standard action to give you a boost.
@Maddie: The needles aren't aimed low enough for you to step on the wires, but you can drop something in your hand to grab one. If so, please give me an unarmed attack roll to grab the wire. You can choose whether or not to roll damage, depending on what you want to do with it.
Gozrog
|
Gozrog has 16 strength and a climb speed. Could he hold Brae up?
Egg Fu
|
Egg climbs up to try Abe in position to disarm the other port…
Climb: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Not sure if that leaves me an action to disable it this round? If not, I’ll give it a shot next go round…
Gozrog
|
Three sets of frog suckers cling to the wall near the trap while the fourth supports Brae.
| GM Warah |
Maddie grabs the wire from the cyan port and yanks it out of its port. Gozrog boosts Brae up to disable the yellow port. She makes it look easy. Egg shimmies up the wall to tinker with another port. Normally this would be difficult with the smooth metal panels, but time and various denizens have battered this section enough to provide hand- and toe-holds.
Egg: You can make a Disable Device check this round. Please state if you're targeting the magenta or orange port.

Apologies for not posting.
"Come back here, you!" Inle shouts as she steps back out the doorway. The Black Rabbit bounds over, protecting the gnome behind him.
| GM Warah |
Inlé pursues The Black Rabbit back into the previous hallway while the orange port continues to retract the wire from the needle it fired moments ago. All else is eerily quiet in the dimly glowing red room.

Still holding Brae on her shoulders, Gozrog shuffles over to the remaining port so Brae can disable it.

With the threats eliminated, the Pathfinders have the opportunity to see to their wounds and explore this room.
See the initial room description here.
Investigating the chest along the eastern wall reveals glowing blue script (marker dye mixed with glowing ink) on the chest’s lid, which says: “The prize lies within! Test your mettle against ours!” The chest is empty except for a parchment note that reads: “Congratulations, you have passed the trial! This amulet is your prize; present it to Venture- Captain Valsin as proof of your success!”

"Forsooth! More tracks lead to the north! Let us be onward, fellows!"
Inlé Ebnalli

Once the coast is clear, Inle comes back in to check the bodies. "Are any of these poor folks Pathfinders? I don't see any wayfinders, but who else would be here?"
She follows Gozrog out the north.
MaddelynB

"Do any of these unfortunate corpses have that amulet? Or have orders on them like we do? I still say these are those Blood Rudders. If they have taken what we need..." Maddie slumps against the archway inspecting where she was shocked. "Don't suppose any of you lot know how to treat wounds? Stinging real bad where that wire got me"
Lanel Brandain

"I can try to use my healing wand on you I think. Hold still."
Lanel will bring out his wand, and mutters under his breath 'wow, gods are so cool' and then taps Maddie on the head with it a couple of times, hoping the wand works.
If that is not enough, he apologizes profusely and lets Gozrog take over.

Gozrog hates to see a fellow intelligent animal in pain, so converts a protective spell into healing for the Black Rabbit.
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
| The Black Rabbit |
The rabbit sighs with relief and facebumps the frog creature, accidentally knocking her back a little. "Ooops, sorry!" he rumbles, waddling back to the gnome. Inle gives Gozrog a smile and a nod as she scritches The Black Rabbit's chin where it rests on her shoulder.

"huh, looks like they had the thing tangled up so it couldn't move, we might not be too far behind them maybe if we are lucky"
that a heavy or a light masterwork crossbow?
Lanel Brandain

"I think these might have been the bandits. I don't see a reason for more than one to carry not one but TWO manacles. Wait... there is not amulet as proof on any of them, right?? I don't remember one on the half-orc. It could mean there were still survivors from this encounter that fled ahead."
Gozrog

Gozrog also votes to continue forward.
Inlé Ebnalli

Inle follows the rest of the group through the archway.
| GM Warah |
Twice as wide as it is long, this large, oval chamber is illuminated with a murky radiance by dimly reddish-glowing overhead crystals. The room is bare of furnishings, just an open space with a dozen semicircular alcoves around the perimeter. Mechanical horrors identical to the one outside occupy a number of these alcoves, but none of the automatons seem active, and some have even fallen over. A door stands in the center of the northern wall.
See Slide 8
| GM Warah |
Egg takes a good look around the room. He's reasonably certain none of these robots is operational. In fact, time has not been kind to them at all. Corrosion riddles their bodies. Despite being armed with a sword and crossbow like the one the team just fought, none of their weapons is in usable condition anymore.
| GM Warah |
Lanel doesn't notice any magic in the large oval room. Peeking through the door, Egg sees a flight of metal stairs descending through a corridor sheathed in the same brick-red metal. This corridor seems in better repair than most, with no missing panels and functional overhead lighting. The stairs end at a door to the north, while two narrow arches open on either side of the hall.
