The surprised pirate reacts instinctively, stepping behind a crate to shield himself from the worst of Relgar's powerful arc of conjured fire! Still, the man is badly burned and in obvious pain, and can't duck before Vindex literally decapitates him!

Black made the save and takes half damage from the burning hands. The game unfortunately doesn't really explain what it means by "flammable materials" (anything will burn if it gets hot enough), so my rule of thumb is "if a lit match would instantly set it on fire (things like oil-soaked rags, dried grass, gas, etc.) than a magical fire spell will as well". From the description, it sounds like this place is pretty damp, so no raging inferno . . . yet!

Vindex's power+sneak attack is enough to take Black from positive hit points to past negative hp equal to Constitution with one swing.

@Gregor: We'll say the ceilings are 20' high.

Red draws his cutlass and does a move action (not having a +1 BAB is sad!). White does a move action to the nearest stack of crates to take a look and readies an action. Blue draws a cutlass and moves towards the sound of violence. Yellow draws a cutlass and stays with the prisoner, doing Total Defense.

@Relgar: Hm, you're right. Somehow we're .1 too high. I thought we had worked it out for low-tier in the Recruitment thread, but apparently not. Well, I don't want to change an encounter mid-stream, but I'll have to make the adjustments moving forward. We may have to pause after this, as I have everything prepped for low-tier.

Relgar snaps his fingers and a ball of fire appears in his right hand. He then mounts his familiar and waits for takeoff.

Vindex rushes past, eyeing the strange half-orc carefully to watch out for signs of hostility. Stabbing the pirates seem to put them on the same side for now, however, so Vindex shrugs and sets up in position to strike any pirate that might try to get through.

Vindex will ready an action to trip any pirate that gets in range.

Vindex will trip with an AOO if there is a provoke from movement through his reach.

One of the pirates rounds the corner only to get knocked down by Vindex. As the pirate struggles to his feet, the Chelaxian hits him again, and this time he stays down!

Blue gets knocked down by Vindex's readied action and then knocked to negatives from the AoO. White and Yellow maintain readied actions.

Igor is obviously having fun. It is rare for him to be part of the torch-wielding mob chasing someone else. Moving in a lurching skip he rushes through the maze tongue lolling like a bloodhound.

When Scraps drops the package of grey dust, a bright flash fills the center of the warehouse, but the pirate standing over the bound woman manages to cover his eyes just in time!

Relgar guides Gregor using only his knees. The prehistoric reptile climbs slowly not attempting any fancy flying within the warehouse. Gregor tosses a ball of flame at the pirate whom he flies over.

Double move for Gregor (no fly check required).

Guide with knees (Ride check automatically successful even with the -5 modifier for riding without a saddle).

Produce Flame, To hit touch AC: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Fire damage, CL 6, Pyromanic: 1d6 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 5 + 1 = 10

I love the thematics of throwing fire around with Produce Flame but Magic Missile just hits every round (no muss/no fuss). :)


Relgar hurls fire from above, but his target sees the attack coming and jumps out of the way! Angered by his near-incineration, the pirate draws a crossbow and lets fly, hitting the winged reptile! "Ha, take that!"

Nearby, the other pirate tries to disfigure Igor even further, but just hits a crate instead! "Alejia will hang your guts from the mast for messing with us!"

Relgar's attack missed White.

White shoots at Gregor with a crossbow. Result: The attack hits for 5 damage.

Yellow moves and attacks Igor. Result: Miss.

Just arrived from the River Kingdoms and had to stop somewhere to eat after the briefing.. y'know... still hungry... do they have some grub n this warehouse?"

While Igor and 'the Mathter' decide and the little gnome greedily picks over the dead and dying, Scraps retracts its pincers with a snap and extends a moist pseudopod to help the lady up.
