Oops. The description earlier is for area D1. You entered into area D1 from the courtyard. Now you're heading west into area D2. I'll get a post up after work today.
GM Roll4initiative |
This cavernous chamber contains a number of elaborate skeletal displays. The reassembled creations consist of both accurate assemblies and imaginative creation built from the bones of multiple specimens. Several large, glass cylinders contain colonies of dermestid beetles for cleaning bones. Several have actively decaying specimens. Arches along the side lead to small workstations. Near the back sits another, larger work area filled with kilns, a hearth, and some large iron vats. In the middle of the floor, six corpses lie piled together in a pool of blood.
Passing through the seemingly unoccupied room, the gleeful shriek of goblins suddenly echoes throughout the tiled chamber. Two goblins jump out and knock over some of the jars filled with beetles. The jars shatter on impact, releasing a swarm of flesh-eating beetles and a slop of rotting, liquified flesh. The floor is quickly covered in a slippery mess.
Note the gray stone countertops. These are approximately 3' high and provide partial cover. The circled stars are skeletal displays whose squares can be easily passed through.
Due to the slippery mess, the entire area is considered under the effects of a grease spell. I need a Reflex save vs the grease from everybody.

**House GM Announcement**
With the defeat of the dragon, more and more Pathfinders pour into the mausoleum. With their combined abilities they’re able to overwhelm the remaining hazards and reach the library, where they stand before the door to the inner sanctum. When the door is thrown open, a bizarre sight awaits within.
A strange, metal cage lies sprawled in the center of the room like a great, undulating, skeletal lotus. Long tendrils of translucent ether lash violently from the artifact, while crackles of eerie light dance across the metal frame and up into the ghostly pillar that erupts from the center of the device into the night sky. A dozen bodies surround the pulsating cage, flopping on the floor and convulsing madly.
______________
GMs, please proceed to area D7.
GM Roll4initiative |
With a graceful toss of her alchemist's fire, Corba takes out the rest of the swarm.
The remaining goblin makes a mad dash out the southwest exit. The group quickly heads north with the other Pathfinders. As they're about to open the doors to the cold storage room (Area D4), the goblin comes running around the corner into the north hall and right into Leon's fist, knocking the creature out cold.
You quickly race through several rooms...
Open spoilers for descriptions of each.
Finally arriving in area D7...

Leon steps in and grabs the ankle of the closest fallen Pathfinder. Luckily, Leon isn't whipped by a tendril as he does so. He pulls the Pathfinder out of the tendrils' reach. A veteran Pathfinder, wearing the vestments of a cleric of Sarenrae, pulls the body further back out of harms way. He looks up at Leon.
"Thank you, friend. I'll take it from here."The cleric takes out his medical pack and begins going to work on the fallen pathfinder.
Unfortunately, the scenario gives no mention of what's going on with all of the bodies. Your main task, however, is to either get to the door or attempt to disable/partially disable the artifact.

Disable Device? K: Arcana? Smash it?
GM Roll4initiative |
Dozens of Pathfinders scramble to the cage, trying to avoid the ethereal tendrils in an attempt to shut down the strange device to get through the doors to the north.
Okay, team. You have three choices:
You can attempt to bypass the haywire artifact, partially shut it down, or shut it down completely.
Bypassing the artifact: This approach requires a run through the room, avoiding the wispy tendrils of ether—a reasonable task, as the ether isn’t intelligent. Determine the results with three Fortitude saves. These Fortitude saves represent the random tendrils of the ethereal plane snapping about the room.
Shutting down or Partially shut down the haywire artifact: Accomplishing this action requires some skill. If a group attempts to shut down the device, each player who can must make a Disable Device check.
