I'd like a chance to fight. Colgrim is still on his drug rush.

Endless Night - DAY 5

He shrugs his shoulders and answers Soryan. I understand you... as your words are quite reasonable... In turn, I will say that I do not need untested people for such risky schemes. This is said without aggression or defiance, as a statement of fact. Out of the corner of your eye, you notice that the subordinates of Xomos are furtively exchanging glances. It seems to be unusual for them that he conducts such long negotiations with someone. He may be interested in you... or he's up to something.

If you're looking for a fight - he nods at Сolgrim - but don't want to fight in the arena, I might have a job for you. Someone in the neighborhood is going to die, and it would be great if someone other than my people did it. I'll pay, and at the same time I'll be able to check you in... For future business.

Soryan Dirge nods understanding to Cuthalian, "Understood."

Then he turns back to Xomos, "So we will fight against your Deep Giant tonight, for 9,000 gold in profit. .... Then we can negotiate for the assassination. I would insist that, for the assassination, it is not revealed "Who" is behind the assassination, that neither you nor any of your underlings allow any kind of rumor or innuendo that those who defeated the Deep Giant in the arena had anything at all to do with the assassination. If, of course, it becomes known or even hinted at that we may have been involved in the assassination -- perhaps by the words from one of these" Soryan Dirge lets his slender arm point and arc across Xomos' servants, lackeys and hangers-on -- "It will be interpreted by us that *you* Xomos revealed this information."

Accepted. They know how to keep their mouths shut. We understand the difference between different types of business. It seems that Xomos is quite satisfied with the negotiations and shows that he is no longer detaining you (yes, I did not make a mistake in my choice of words).

___

Wow. This is another knowledge (Dungeoneering), but you know a lot despite the fact that these creatures are extremely rare even in Darklands...

Succumbing to an intuitive impulse, Soryan asks only one clarifying question about the "Deep Giant" - the number of hands. This momentary epiphany puts everything in its place when he hears that there are four hands. Apparently, the common people here call them "Deep Giant", but in occult literature, those who study the Dark Beyond and creepy Outer Gods call them gugs.

See new art...

Gug:
Gugs are inhuman monstrosities that dwell in the deep places of the world. Whether they were banished to the dark lands by ancient gods or the light-loving races they terrorized, or perhaps were brought to the deep realms by dark powers from some even more inhuman nightmare realm, is unknown, but gugs are loathed by other races for their carnal rites of slaughter.

Gugs are 16 feet tall and weigh nearly 2,000 pounds, but they move with an eerie, unnatural gait as though their limbs contained far too many joints. They can contort and distend their limbs for greater reach or to wriggle easily through impossibly Small passages. Gugs may cling for long hours to cave walls or just within dark side-caverns, lying in wait for prey to stumble too close. Their senses are keen, however, and their joy in the bloody hunt is considerable and gugs who catch the scent of blood may stalk their prey for long days, even venturing at times beyond their caves to dare the bright lands of the surface in search of tasty meat to drag back for their horrific sacrifices.

They have no special resistance other than poisons and diseases. Their scariest weapons are their claws and bites, but they are truly deadly. Their armspan is particularly dangerous, and it is difficult for shooters and sorcerers to hide from their attacks of opportunity. Even ghonhatine is slightly weaker than what you are going to face.

The Rogue clasped Soryan Dirge on his shoulder.

Endless Night - DAY 5

After all the necessary preparations (or drinking wine in a tavern? let it remain on the conscience of gossips and minstrels), Liver that appeared as if from the ground informs that the time has come.

After passing through the next muddy paths of the Gray Market, you find yourself at some kind of trapdoor in the ground.

This is the entrance for the fighters, Liver nods. As I understand it, some of you want to remain viewers? If you would like to say a few last words to your gladiators, you can go down with them, and then you will be shown to the guest lodge. He grunts at the word "lodge". This is probably some kind of irony about the inhabitants of Eirdrisseir, but not one for which he can get a dagger in the stomach.

...

It's pretty hard to figure out what this place used to be. Some kind of tunnels in which something rather foul-smelling was stored or lived a long time ago. There is a lot of mold here, and in one of the perpendicular corridors you see a carelessly thrown fresh corpse of an orc with a terrible wound, as if someone tore out a piece of his chest with the same effort as a child could pull a piece out of a sand figurine.

...

And here you are standing near a rusty grate in a completely unlit corridor. There is some kind of space behind the bars, apparently a large brick-paved hall with high walls. The greenish mold covering the walls quite thickly there creates a slight pale green painful glow. Opposite, another entrance with the same grate is visible. If you listen carefully, you can hear some quiet conversations upstairs.

Several small dark creepers indistinguishable from the one who tried to rob you are scurrying through the corridors doing some business. Five minutes, one of them suddenly beeps and immediately disappears into the corridor. You can also hear that the conversations upstairs have become louder. Dear sirs, who wants to be at the top of the pit, please follow me, says another (or the same one?) creeper in another minute.

Soryan Dirge concentrates on some minor illusion work to craft a magical disguise, that of Gadak Simiryin -- but slightly embellished: a little pencil-thin mustache and wicked cow-lick of hair in the back; stark white boots, belt, and accessories. Soryan Dirge, in his arcane disguise, makes his 'Gadak Simirin' look a little taller, one or two inches, and changes the color of his eyes. When finished casting the spell, he concentrates on the image he now projects, burning it into his mind.

"Almost ready," Soryan Dirge / Gadak answers. He stretches as if preparing for some calisthenics. He answers anyone's questioning glance, "Hey, I'd rather strangers see Gadak -- or Gadak's 'cousin' -- rather than see me."

Soryan Dirge, complete in his illusory disguise as Gadak, waits for the march through the last moldy corridors before the rusty grate to the Pit. And as everyone leaves the corridors, he casts his powerful Invisibility enchantment at the last possible moment, allowing him to cast spells while still hidden by the illusion.

Disguise Self to look like Gadak, but a little different (80 minutes) ; Greater Invisibility for the fight (48 seconds). And if anyone can 'See Invisibility' they see Gadak Simiryin. (unless they have True Seeing)

The grate is slowly rising. You take a step inside. The stench is getting stronger. It seems that the entire floor, except for the small remnants of the bridge on which you are now standing, is filled with some kind of vile slime. You glance up briefly. About 30 feet above, there is another grate covering the ceiling. The faces of the dark elves are visible around the grate, leaning on the parapet and looking down at you. So-so arena, but the underground fights are underground…

There is no time to consider this for a long time, because opposite grate rises almost simultaneously with yours and a creature jumps out there, scorched by flashes of flame from behind. It straightens up completely, then straightens its strange arms, raising them to the ceiling as if in prayer and opens its eerie huge vertical mouth as if about to roar... But no sound comes from it.

At this moment, the bars behind gug and behind your backs drop loudly and sharply. The dark elves above begin to cheer. Their faces are full of cruelty and they dream of seeing your painful death now.

See the map. Brown mud is a difficult terrain for all medium-sized creatures (let me remind you that you can't take a 5-foot step in it). The bridge on the remains of which you are standing is only 5 feet above it. The remains of the bridge in the middle are also 5 feet above the mud level.

Soryan Dirge Moves up a few feet to the edge of the bridge, not wanting fetid slime on his Invisible and magically disguised white boots to get filthy, he turns slightly, so he's in front of Cirok rather than Colgrim (in case his Dwarven ally can charge through slime), and whispers to his allies where he is standing, since they can't see him.

Then he Evokes a Fireball, aiming it not precisely where the Deep Giant stands, but a few feet in front, blasting ten feet through the grate behind Ol' Gug-Boy. Sad for any Creepers watching from behind the grate. (But since they used fire to prod him out likely no Creepers are right behind the grate quite yet.)

Moreover, Soryan Dirge doesn't cast his spell level with the Gug's knees or ankles, but rather just above his front teeth, instantaneously flaming a good twenty feet above his head, perhaps singing any gambling spectators thirty feet above their Deep Giant entertainment. While it won't burn the greedy gamblers this round, well, they'll know the size of a Fireball and just how close to them it can get if I put it up in the air.

Endless Night - DAY 5

@Cuthalian, it is 10 feet away (that is, yes, it has a claw span of 15 feet). You need to come up to hit (obviously provoking an attack) and you will only be able to deliver one attack. Will you approach or will you do something else?

If you are going to get closer...:

Gug reacts instantly and strikes with his claw - and this time it didn't miss!
Claw: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (15) + 14 = 291d6 + 13 ⇒ (4) + 13 = 17

The arrows stick into the monster's body without leaving any damage. In addition, with lightning fast agility, it dodges absolutely all the blows which is amazing for such a huge carcass.

As for the arrows, it's a roleplay, it's just a miss in the AC. By the way, Terzanin, I think you can shoot twice a round.

Still considering the largest creature to be the most formidable opponent, gug unleashes a ferocious series of blows, reaching with claws and bite surprisingly far due to its unnatural anatomy...

More Acid!: 2d4 ⇒ (3, 3) = 6

Pleased with the sheer volume of Acid he Conjured, Soryan Dirge let a little smirk turn the corner of his jaw, equally pleased that the Acid went right into the Gug's gaping mouth! 'Maybe that'll teach it to keep his big mouth shut.'

Endless Night - DAY 5

It seems that one of Terzarin's arrows stuck in the monster's carcass caused real damage. Gug gets distracted to pull it out and then gets shot with acid from an invisible wizard right in his half-open mouth! Now you finally hear a roar of pain and it so loud and strong that the flow of air makes you stagger! Next, rays of force hit the monster, causing him more pain, and then one of Colgrim's blows reaches its target! In the end, Cuthalian rushes into close combat, splashing mud under his feet and plunges his blade into the four-armed creature.

Bite AoO vs Cuthalian for charge: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (20) + 14 = 341d8 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 19 WOW!

Looks like 38 dmg

However, the monster does not remain unanswered and vents rage at the approaching warrior... And Cuthalian, in addition to the pain at this moment, feels that the mud seems to have become especially slippery and tries not to fall....

So... Cuthalian, you can do a five-foot step and your rays will hit touch AC anyway. I'm not sure if you can make a charge across a difficult terrain, but 25 hits anyway. But! You have entered the Grease territory conjured up by Cirok earlier. Reflex DC 11 to avoid falling right in front of the monster.
