The google page says it's "view only" right now

Kaylee is okay with any ship. She's okay with any position on board but loves to fly.

If she's the pilot, she gives the ship +1 to speed. If she's science officer, some GMs let "wireless hack" do free "aid another" but I've also had GMs say no.

I vote for the Drake and definitely not the Spaceballs winnebago.

Cha'mon Cha'mon, will step aside and let Kaylee pilot the ship when combat begins. He can be a gunner instead.

The Pegasus can be a fun challenge, and I've heard about some scenarios where having the science labs can make things a lot better. If we know we're getting into a fight though, Drake for me. If it's exploration or other stuff, I'm okay with whatever!

So totally out of the blue it looks like I'm going to Gen Con and we're leaving tomorrow! Everything PFS and SFS is sold out but I'll still get to go at least! I'll try to check in here from my phone when I get back to my friend's place each night but feel free to bot me if Kaylee's the only one needing to act for the game to keep moving and it's during daytime hours indiana-time?

Has anyone else played the Battletech game that came out a few years ago for PC? Talk about a beautiful turn-based combat system. Something simple and obvious as turn order by weight class, damage by facing, and evasion make it fun and challenging but fair.

By contrast, there isn't one damn thing I can say that is complimentary of Starfinder space combat. Starting with the action sequence, they literally got nothing right, and making more menial tasks for Mystics does not make it better. The system is screaming for a Space Marine alternative to starship combat.

You may have just had bad experiences. It also loses a lot in pbp. Starfinder ship combat can be soooo much fun when you're sitting around a table with players and GMs who are all into it, describing secondary explosions, high speed maneuvers, etc.

It's true I've never played it tabletop. I'm thankful for pbp and for Society play and the GMs who keep putting themselves out here since that's mostly what I have access to these days. I do wish the Society adventures allowed for some alternative story routes that lead to the same end. Although I've also felt that we are sometimes steered into morally ambiguous choices like this one, where if the context was exposed we might choose not to do the Vesk's bidding. Sometimes feels like we're part of a corporate syndicate and not always the good guys.

I have had some really amazing starship fights in Starfinder and some real slogs. Most have been somewhere in the middle. Starship combat is difficult to run via PbP. I have tried having everyone do make their checks and then try to sort it out. It can be quicker, but a lot more work for the GM. I have tried doing each phase one at a time, but it can be very time-consuming. I'm trying for something in-between.

Also, in the past I have done more with describing tactics and explosions and the scene, but it makes for very lengthy posts and, again, is more time-consuming than I feel I can currently devote (the kids'll be back in school soon, so I may get to that level again, though hopefully starship combat will be over by then).

As for the Starfinder Society, it appears to me, as conceived, the organization was more like "a corporate syndicate" than a team of "good guys". The purpose, it would seem, is to accommodate as wide a variety of characters and play-styles as possible for Organized Play. If you think the Starfinders are questionable, you should read some early season Pathfinder Society scenarios, definitely not the "good guys".

I think, perhaps, that the organization is transforming more into an organization of "good guys" and that the current Year of Redemption's Rise is a step towards that as the new factions mostly seem to be focused on traditionally "good" ideals, such as charity and support for others, tolerance, and inclusion. The Society is doing some internal examination of its history and motives and trying to conclude what type of organization it will be in the future (and I suspect encouraging players to do the same). For example, see the reforms to the Starfinders' "private prison" in the most recent scenario (And, yes, I know this appears to be a shameless plug, but it is only mostly shameless).

Very cool! Now if only I had a 5th level character to get into the game when you GM this. Paizo could do us a favor and hyperlink from your name as author to all the products you've written.

Is the transformation of the Starfinders related to Paizo's own transformation with the UPW?

I personally like starship combat. Here's my number one observation on how to keep it fun.

Be aggressive, if you try to keep your starship at max range and plink away that is a recipe for a 10 or even 20 round combat. Get in close like Kaylee is doing and fire as many weapons as you can every round. If you lose initiative stay aggressive and go for the fly by. I haven't lost a starship combat yet, when employing those tactics.

That being said, Battletech is awesome. I haven't played it in a really long time though, wish I had a chance to.

We are certainly close to completion. This is the last combat and there are no further skill checks. I cannot guarantee that we will finish by September 11th, but I think it likely if we can keep up the post rate.

Not sure. Not likely before Gameday, though. He usually only gets assigned for some particular troublemaking and, so far, only in repeatables where I know he won't cause too much harm. He has yet to play a Festive Operation. I kind of like the idea of the "Morvruul Who Stole the Holiday", especially if I can do the whole thing in rhyme! He would also find the Year of Redemption's Rise a challenge given how irredeemable he is.
