"What do you think they want? Why are they trying to hurt us? We didn't do anything to them.."
Bel turned to look at the Half-elf trying to catch his breath, "We're strangers in their territory. Sometimes that's all it takes, I'm afraid."
Perception (DC 22): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Peering around the wall, Bel noticed another spot with some cover against the arrows and pointed it out to Eskander,
"I'm moving closer, across the courtyard. If you wish, follow me. There's enough space for two," before double moving swiftly across the space and coming to wait for a better chance against the archers.
Saria Fartul
Saria moves closer to Bel and Eskander, and takes a shot at one of the approaching thugs.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 6
Firing on the southernmost thug, should be within 80ft if I haven't miscounted
"I'll be moving forward as well, to try and give you and Mallory some support if you're fighting them up close." Saria says to Bel as she darts across the street.

Damage: 1d4 + 2d6 ⇒ (2) + (4, 6) = 12
The group moves, mostly cautiously, forward to close with their attackers. Mallory attracts most of the attention as she runs boldly down the street, though the thug Saria narrowly misses narrows his eyes and swears. He reloads the crossbow and returns fire. His shot goes wide and high, missing her and impacting in a crumbling wall down the way
The other three split off to engage different people, dropping their crossbows and pulling out morningstars as they move. One charges recklessly into Mallory. He is unable to find a hole in her defenses. Another hurries down the street, passing Bel to get close to Zadira, while the the third rushes alongside.
Bel hears a creak above her and looks up to find a blonde woman holding a tanglefoot bag in one hand and pistol crossbow in the other. She takes a shot at Bel from close range, catching her unaware with a critical wound to the neck!
Bel - 12 piercing w/sneak attack! Yikes!
Round 3!
Everyone is up, Polly double-moved to be in casting range.
The one with all the stealth that just made herself visible by waylaying Bel is 15' up from the street on top of a low roof.

Too late to notice the sneaky woman on the roof, Bel felt the sharp, deep piercing of the bolt into her neck, and, succumbing to her wound, fell to the street, unconscious.
Constitution check to stablise: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22 (Bel is stable/not bleeding out and at -2 HP unconscious.)
Zadira
Yikes! Man down! Nice stabilization roll though.
Seeing them get close, Zadira gives up on climbing and takes a shot with her bow at the one that has come into her line of sight.
Attack (longbow): 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 3 + 1 = 24 (point blank)
Damage (piercing): 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9 (point blank)
Wow.

Additional Crit Damage (weapon is a x3 on crit): 2d8 + 2 ⇒ (6, 2) + 2 = 10
That should be a total of 19 damage (if a 20 confirms).
She then puts her bow away in anticipation of entering melee next round.

Eskander moves to follow Bel, but the woman appears above her and the half-elf stops in his tracks, spear pointed toward the closest bandit, trying to ward them off. Seeing Bel on the ground, he cries out, NO! Zadira, Bel's down and there's a woman on the roof! and trembles. His eyes flash blue a moment and he growls at the closest man, Run!
Move, cast Cause Fear on the closest Will save DC 15 or become Frightened. On success, shaken for 1 round. He threatens with reach, so if one of them wants to close to melee he should get an AoO?
Zadira
Zadira nods at Eskander's information, more determined to overcome the threat so they can help their colleague.
Saria Fartul
"Bel! NO!" Saria shouts, as she helplessly watches Bel collapse onto the floor.
"I can try to heal Bel if I can get to her, but we need to take care of this thugs first!"
Stepping next to Eskander, Saria intones a short magical incantation, directing the magical energy towards one of the thugs in front of her, taking a defensive posture afterwards, and doing her best to watch the blonde woman's movements.
I'll be fighting defensively for this turn.
Casting Daze on whichever thug wasn't targeted by Zadira - DC 15 Will Save, or be unable to take actions for a round.
If I'm attacked by the sneaky woman, I'll cast stone shield (as the spirit magic spell from the Name-Keeper archetype) for an extra +4 AC.
Eskander, regarding your question on the AoO - I don't think you threaten the corners of the 5x5 square around you - they should be 15ft away - which means an enemy can close on you by moving along the diagonal. And you should remember that if they are 10ft from you at the start of their turn, they can always close by just taking a 5ft step
DM Dickie
Yeah, I think the diagonal squares used to count as threatened in 3.x, but they simplified it slightly in PF. Or maybe 3.5. It's moot anyway this time around since Zadira had the higher init and will crit the one in question before Esk acts. Note the thug affected by his spell is 45' west of where he is on the map (full run from his original position). This means the woman on the roof is Saria's next target in range when she acts (technically it would be the frightened guy, but let's go with it).

Zadira's shot catches the approaching hired goon right in the eye and kills the Varisian mercenary instantly. His associate standing beside him was already concerned by the shot when Eskander's magic stimulated his deepest fears and overwhelmed him. He turns and runs back down the street, headed for the waterline. At the other end of the street, Mallory delivers a deep wound to the charging sellsword.
The man is still standing, but he calls his remaining goon to give him a hand. The other one drops his crossbow and pulls free the morningstar as he charges Mallory, but like his partner just cannot seem to land a blow on the well-armored woman.
The blonde woman tenses as if she's about to spring into action, but Saria's magic causes her to become distracted for a few seconds.
Round 4

Does Bel get to make her move before the enemies if I heal her now?
With the coast now clear, Saria rushes in and gently places a hand on Bel's neck, channeling positive energy into her wound.
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
She lets out a small sigh of relief as she sees Bel start to regain her consciousness, but seeing that much of the wound still remains unhealed worries her.
"Bel, be careful - you were attacked by a woman right above us, and I didn't manage to heal most of the damage. You might want to take cover for now, I'll try to distract her as best I can"
As before, fighting defensively and reacting with stone shield if attacked.
Izabelia Nirodin
Bel came to, slowly, and trying to focus she could just make out the form of Saria beside her. The wound on her neck was still painful and she comprehended that Saria had used magical healing to revive her. She was barely alive. (Bel's at 2 HP). Yet, the wound on her neck throbbed and ached - the deep puncture mark still gaping that she did not wish to aggravate it nor make herself an easy target to the female assassin on the roof. In soft voice she said to the half-elf, "Thanks for the healing, Saria. If I stand, she'll shoot me anew and I may fall, again."
Remaining prone on her back (+4 to AC against ranged attacks, Bel's AC is now 20), Bel stared up at the blonde woman 15 ft above her on the roof. She began to cast quietly, directing the spell to the pistol crossbow in her hand (the one that had wounded her gravely).
Standard action: Cast Grease on the woman's weapon (target: pistol crossbow). Range 25 ft, duration 1 min. Reflex Save DC 14 to avoid the effect. If the initial saving throw fails, the creature immediately drops the weapon. A saving throw must be made in each round that the creature attempts to pick up or use the greased item.
Bel had dropped the shortbow she'd been holding when she fell unconscious (she could see it not far from her). Instead, she moved her hand to the sheathe at her belt and removed her rapier, keeping it in hand in case of other, incoming trouble/threats. (Move action to draw rapier.)
Eskander Sforza
Eskander, seeing Saria reaching down and then taking a defensive posture, rushes ahead to join her, pointing his spear up at the woman atop the roof. Seeing her fumble with her mind, he pushes against her consciousness, trying to do something, but unsure of what exactly he's trying to do.... What is that? JUST LISTEN AND DO IT NOW...But, I don't understand! his brow furrows with concentration and a piece of the roof gutter flies off, smashing into the woman fumbling with her crossbow. The drainpipe shattering upon impact with her.

Does Bel get to make her move before the enemies if I heal her now?
I typically assume they return to action on their initiative, and since Bel was lower initiative then yes, she would be able to act when regaining consciousness.
A little short of time before work to resolve the current round, but should have it within 24 hours.
Oh, for the daze it should work since she's coming out of the original one on her turn. Darth Vadering her is fun, tho!
Saria Fartul
Hearing Bel talk back helps ease a bit more of Saria's worry, although her gaping wound is still a heavy concern.
"You're right Bel, staying down is probably your safest option - I was too focused on getting you away and didn't even consider it."
"I still have a couple of healing spells prepared if I can get another opening to cast" Saria whispers to Bel and Eskander as he joins up with them, while keeping her eyes on their attacker, trying to antecipate her next move and judge if she can get enough time for another spell.

The team cannot land a blow. Mallory's attack is parried ably by the goon in front of her, who promptly moves around her to help surround the inquisitor with his associate. Neither man has any better luck finding an opening, however, and both just look like poorly trained fighters and not dangerous mercenaries.
The blonde woman comes out of her magically-induced stupor to find her crossbow covered in thick grease. It falls from her fingers and clatters to the rooftops. She sneers and aims a throw with the tanglefoot bag at Saria, assuming she was the cause. Polly invokes a ray of sunshine striking her just as she's about to toss the alchemical mess. She nearly hits her target despite blinking her eyes to clear the after-image spots left by the bright light.
Not a great round for either side!
Round 5
Everyone is up!
Saria Fartul
Seeing their attacker fumbling with her crossbow, Saria takes the opportunity to start casting another healing spell. Shifting her focus from the enemy to her spell almost gets her hit with a tanglefoot bag however, if not for Polly's timely intervention.
Too close - that mistake might have stopped me from helping anyone. I've got to be a bit more careful.
With the woman on the roof seemingly out of ranged options, Saria quickly refocuses on Bel, finishing her casting and kneeling down again.
"Bel, I'll try to heal the rest of the damage, ok?"
She carefully touches Bel's neck again, directing the healing energy to her wound and hoping it proves more effective this time.
Cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
As she removes her hand and checks the results of her spell, she can't help but be a bit disappointed that the wound has still not fully closed.
"I'm sorry, that still wasn't good enough. I hope it helped reduce the pain at least"
Still worried about Bel's wound, but not wanting to get caught of guard again, Saria shifts her attention back to the woman on the roof and reloads her crossbow.

Zadira shoots again at the blonde.

In a lowered voice she replied to Saria, "It was good enough, Saria. I thought I was finished and you brought me back from the brink." The wound on her neck wasn't entirely knitted, however was on its way to being and the pain had lessened somewhat. (6/10 HP) "The pain is bearable. Look after you, now. I would not see harm befall you for your kindness to me."
Wishing to preserve her own limited magic in order to fully heal her wounds after they had dealt with the enemy, Bel remained prone and did what she could to protect herself from any further ranged attacks from the woman above. Least she dropped her greased weapon. Thank the gods. However, falling in battle so soon in the encounter made Bel feel like a failure, ashamed at how useless she had been to her allies. It made her think of Nico and her heart hurt all the more.
Total Defense as a standard action. +4 dodge bonus to AC for 1 round. AC is now 20+4=24 for 1 round.
===
If the blonde woman is still alive and tries to pick up/use the greased pistol xbow, she'll need to make a Reflex save DC 14.
Eskander Sforza
Eskander continues to provide coverage for Bel with his spear, seeing the blonde woman staying out of range, he exhaled deeply risking a glance over at Mallory's continued battle with the hooligans down the alleyway. She's doing alright, now we just have to deal with the blonde.... PRESS THE ATTACK! USE YOUR MAGIC... What? Why are you screaming, why does everyone scream in a fight?!? DO IT BOY NOW IS YOUR TIME..
The half-elf's eyes momentarily unfocus and he shakes his head bringing his eyes back upon the woman on the roof. Unbidden, a brick hurls itself at the woman, attempting to unseat her from her perch. The brick flies wildly over her head, surprising everyone as it clatters back to the cobbled street.

Zadira's arrow grazes the woman on the roof moments before she is struck once again by Polly's illusory sunlight. For the first time, the blonde woman speaks. She points up the street where three men in Shoanti clothes are running from the building serving as Natalya's hideout.
The Varisian mercenaries seem confused. "Just take care of these fools!" She draws a blackened shortsword free of the scabbard on her belt and runs across the rooftops toward's Natalya's, easily jumping from one building to the next with perfect grace.

With the blonde leader's departure, Bel stood up with rapier in hand, careful of the remaining wound to her neck.
"Someone needs to back up Zadira and the rest of us need to help Mal," she mindfully called out to her nearest allies: Saria and Eskander.
Leaving her shortbow on the ground nearest her (for now), Bel started to move closer to Mallory and the mercenaries flanking her. Wounded as she was, Bel didn't immediately step into a flank with Mallory - waiting to see what the mercenary nearest her would do. Moved 30 ft. That's two move actions this round.

She hisses through the pain. "Get out of my way!" shouts the woman moments before Eskander's spell clouds her mind. Instead of jumping down ready to strike with her short sword, she simply stands on the roof staring into the street.
Saria's spell also takes hold of it's target, giving Mallory a few seconds to breathe and only one threat to deal with. Although her own attack fails to land, the mercenary is likewise unable to hit. Clangs of steel on steel reverberate as the two exchange swipes and parries.

Eskander's flying debris finally hits it's mark and the woman drops, slowly dying on a dilapidated roof.
Zadira
Excellent shot Eskander!
I'm cool with them surrendering, but not sure if we should just let them go or risk turning them into the guard (or strip them of loot and THEN let them go?). If the guard, we probably need to wait until we are done here, in case they haul us in too... and if let them go, we should also wait at least a bit so that they can't just report back and send reinforcements before we are done.
Zadira moves forward to climb the roof, both to get the body out of such a conspicuous place, and to retrieve any valuables.
Climb: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20

Zadira can see the woman is unconscious and bleeding freely from her head and multiple arrow wounds. The object she was holding looked to be a potion bottle.
Smashed?: 1d100 ⇒ 50
It survived her fall and Zadira finds two others exactly like it, as well as another two with a more bulbous container shape. Her hand crossbow was dropped on the adjacent roof, but her other weapons are on her person. All of her gear looks high quality.
3x potion A, 2x potion B, mwk short sword, mwk whip, mwk chain shirt, a smokestick, climber's kit, grappling hook with so-foot silk rope, second story harness, silver holy symbol of Norgorbor, thieves' tools, 4 pp, 47 gp.
After a few moments the other thug regains full control of his senses. He looks at the scene and tosses found his weapon before putting his hands in the air. Apologies, ma'am, just trying to make two silver to rub together."
Saria Fartul
Saria nods at Eskander's sugestion.
"I agree with Eskander, there has been enough blood shed here."
With the fight now over, Saria's attention returns to her two wounded companions.
"Mallory, you did an amazing job holding off against these two by yourself! How is your thigh? Bel is still wounded, and I only have enough magic to heal one of you."
Zadira
Zadira looks at the body, seeing that she is alive, and feeling some compassion for her helpless state. She takes the fragile potions, and then finds the holy symbol of Norgobor. Evil deity, eh? Well, that decides it. If she took the considerable effort to save her, she would just add more evil to the world, and they'd probably end up having to kill her later. She says a small prayer to Benorus for the woman's soul to be better off in the next life, and then pushes the body off the roof.
(She was always going to do that... she was just deciding whether to heal/cast Stabilize first.)
She looks across at the crossbow, wondering if she needed to get it too, but it was on a different roof, and she wasn't confident enough in her ability to jump it, so she climbed down carefully (This time taking her time and using her climbing kit) and decided to let someone else get the crossbow if they wanted to.
When she gets back on the ground, she makes sure the body is in the shadows, then strips it of any and all valuables, uses a little water from her waterskin to clean herself off, then goes to join the others.
Hey Saria, found these 4 potions on the dead woman. This one was in her hand... not sure, but could be a healing potion.
She waits till they are in a more private place to display the rest of the stuff, but she does tell them about the crossbow immediately in case anyone wants to retrieve it. (If they do, she will also offer the extra climber's kit for the bonus to climbing.)
Izabelia Nirodin
Bel looked at the two thugs who'd surrendered themselves to the party. Hearing their words, she halted them with "What was your purpose, here, this day? Why did you wish Natalya harm? If you answer our questions honestly, then I too am willing to let you go without further bloodshed," even though she had done little hurting this day and had spent much of her time on her back. much to her humiliation. I can't believe I faltered after the first hit, she mused inwardly, annoyed with herself.
Diplo to show she is being upfront with her offer to let them live: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
"Mallory, you did an amazing job holding off against these two by yourself! How is your thigh? Bel is still wounded, and I only have enough magic to heal one of you."
"Help Mallory, Saria, You've done more than enough for me this day. Thank you. I have one healing spell I can use to knit this wound on my neck."
When Zadira approached and joined them, stating she had found some potions, Bel merely nodded and then spoke to her companions, "You all fought bravely and well. Thank you for keeping me alive. I promise to do better next time and not be a burden." And, they killed the woman who had tried to kill me. And Natalya is safe, too, for now.
(If people wish to keep the potions for later use, Bel has one CLW spell she can cast on herself this day before she's run out of first level spells.)
If Bel needs to cast CLW on herself,

Wait, she's hiring goblins as a gang? Maybe we can talk her down and through this, especially if we don't come in swinging? Eskander looks down at the potions in Zadira's hands, I can check my notes later, and maybe get a sense for what these are? But I'd need some better light and quiet - maybe tomorrow?
He glances up on the roof where the hand crossbow lay, Maybe we should get up there and grab that - I'm betting between Bel and I we can find someone who'd buy it and those little things aren't cheap.

Zadira pulls out the climbing kit that the dead woman was carrying and hands it to Eskander.
Here, this should help with the climbing if you are going up to get it.
