"Keep stalling it with displays of faith - I think I can destroy it!"

Anthys tries a technique that he recalls from his training in Lastwall. The words of a veteran commander come back to him.
'A haunt isn't just like a ghost. You need to strike with your soul and your faith, not just your sword. It may help you to recall the Acts of Iomedae as you strike.'

Now within range of the haunt, he uses Barroom Brawler as a move action to pick up the Soulblade feat. Then he strikes at the demonic haunt, hoping that his faith is just as effective against fiends as it is against undead.

The First Act. Savior of the Swallowed. Iomedae slew Nakorshor'mond and recovered her allies from the beast's gullet.

Attack, IC +2: 1d20 + 18 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 18 + 2 = 27

Barroom Brawler will last for 1 minute (10 rounds), so enough time to get in 10 strikes (they are standard actions) and get through most of the Acts. Hopefully we can destroy the haunt by then. Additional damage would be welcome, since (weapon + enhancement) isn't that much. Would be nice if I had Vital Strike... actually, an Enlarge Person might help if anybody has that.

The edges of the manifestation begin to coalesce. The fearsome visage of a fanged woman with six red-glowing eyes appears and emits a loud moan. At the same time, the stone walls in the area take on cyclops visages and echo that moan. The hollow eyes of the cyclopes begin to bleed, and the manifested images chant, "Faith is futile. All will fall just as great Ghol-Gan." As the chanting reaches a crescendo you all feel the evil trying to infest your minds. As it builds:

Kelson moves up a delivers positive energy to the nascent manifestation.

Claudia continues to show how strong her faith is and how weak the evil is, in comparison.

Marcus follows suit with more positive energy.

Kelson's blow weakens it enough that Claudia's words cut into it like a battle axe, and Marcus' energy finishes it off.

The manifestation howls with rage and frustration. Then, suddenly, it stops.

The snakes groggily revive. Instinctively know that this place is unsafe, and they flee immediately.

Somewhere out in the wilds, snakes share the story of the "nice frog" who helped them escape the "strange, angry thoughts." (The manifestation would have acted like a confusion effect on all of you had it been allowed to form!)
__________

Kelson notices that piled just inside the entryway of this room are bags of items taken from within the temple and surrounding area. While most of these items are of little actual value, a suit of Medium-sized armor stands out among the accumulated detritus. While largely identical to the stoneplate crafted by dwarven artisans, this suit of armor mirrors the stonework and detailing of the surrounding buildings and was likely crafted by a cyclops artisan for a favored servant, or perhaps as a gift to an Azlanti ally before the cyclopes fell into violent savagery.

@Kalia, are you using a shield or not? Your AC seems to include a +2 shield bonus from your buckler, but you are using a two-handed weapon which would preclude that. It matters for Anthys getting a bonus from Shield Wall.

"Kalia, withdraw and I'll block!"

Marcus delays until he sees Kalia's response.

If she backs off:

Marcus 5' steps into the spot Kalia left, blocking the Asura and defending Claudia with his shield and dagger.

Total Defense, +7 cover bonus to AC to Claudia

Aid Another AC, Bard Song, vs. AC 10: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 7 + 2 = 15 +6 to AC vs. next attack on Claudia.

If she attacks the Asura:

Marcus covers Kalia, looking to block and attacks against her, and throws a dagger at the Asura in an attempt to disrupt its attacks on Claudia.

Total Defense, +7 cover bonus to AC to Kalia.

Aid Another AC, Bard Song, In Combat, Soft Cover vs. AC 10: 1d20 + 10 + 2 - 4 - 4 ⇒ (8) + 10 + 2 - 4 - 4 = 12 +6 to AC vs. next attack on Claudia.

Anthys attacks Red with his longsword Requiem. His flashing blade impairs the fiend's movements, as it must watch out for his strikes.

If Claudia's SR check fails, then nobody will have damaged Red in the last round and so Blood for the Empire will not apply. I will proceed as if that is the case. If not, then another +3 to hit and damage.

Attack, IC +2, PA: 1d20 + 18 + 2 - 3 ⇒ (20) + 18 + 2 - 3 = 37
Damage: 1d8 + 10 + 2 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 10 + 2 + 6 = 24
Confirm?: 1d20 + 18 + 2 - 3 ⇒ (10) + 18 + 2 - 3 = 27
Crit Damage: 1d8 + 10 + 2 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 10 + 2 + 6 = 26

Iterative: 1d20 + 13 + 2 - 3 ⇒ (4) + 13 + 2 - 3 = 16
Damage: 1d8 + 10 + 2 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 10 + 2 + 6 = 21

Pretty sure the iterative is a miss, but that crit is 50 points before DR, so that's pretty good.

Because Anthys took a full attack, the squares adjacent to him are counted as difficult terrain until the beginning of his next turn (Difficult Swings feat). He chooses to let his allies ignore this effect.

I haven't ever used this feat before, but it might be helpful. If Kalia wanted to full attack and then 5' step east, for example, the asura would not be able to take a 5' step to follow her.

Grippli Magus 8 | HP 56/56 | AC 25, T 17, FF 20 | F: +7 R: +7, W: +7 | Perc +1 | Init +9

I'll use a folio reroll, since that spell does several rounds of damage covered by one SR check

1d20 + 7 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 7 + 4 = 27

Silver Crusade

M Human Fighter 10 (Drill Sergeant) | AC 29 T 14 FF 26 CMD 29 (plus Teamwork) | HP 94/94 | F+12 R+9 W+8 (plus Teamwork) | Init +3 | Per +11 | BB 5/5 | Tactician 2/3

If Claudia's spell deals damage to the Asura, then Anthys's Blood for the Empire feat applies and his crit becomes 56 points before DR.

ATTACKING ASURAS
Round TWO

Marcus moves in unpredictable ways--both protecting his allies and confounding his enemy!

Anthys strikes true with a blow that seems to swing the tide of this batlle. The humanoids in the alcove cheer: "Yeah! Show that outsider what for!"

Kelson tries to press the advantage, and put the outsider even further off balance. However, before he can cast Glitterdust, she collpses.

COMBAT OVER!

@Kelson: keep your spell slot. :) And have a great trip with the missus!
