Irizati begins to summon. No reason to hold back so SNA 5

The mummies shamble in an orderly line towards the Pathfinders, and as they do so Doodle launches a ray of acid through the corridor.

Saves:

Red: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Blue: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Green: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Yellow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19

And Tere shoots the red mummy, but the shot is deflected by the abnormally thick linen.

If the fight would move into the throne room, we'll change the map.

I said it on discussion, but the cyclops' critical confirmation roll is missing. The first was a "natural 20" due to Flash of Insight.

Tere's arrow after all able to create just a small puncture into the linen! Khellek does a similar trick, while Doodle and the cyclops create havok among the mummies! The cyclops is almost able to easily decapitate the first mummy, but since they are built different, it doesn't fall. Regardless, the backline of the undead horde is severed.

Doodle's second attack misses, leaving the mummy to roam the realm for the time being.

I just checked AoN, and they have heroism providing a morale bonus. GM D, do we all have to save vs. the mummys' auras as they approach?

ETA: what is the light level in the hall?

I completely forgot to apply the aura... yes, you'd have to roll once per each mummy once they are within 30 feet of you.

The chamber is dark on its own. I have gone with the assumption you have ample sources of lights provided by yourselves.

Right. Gotta remember the author just wants everyone dead. Heroism and Inspire are both morale bonuses for the saves.

Pretty sure the 16 failed. Probably also the 19

Paralyzed for x rounds on green aura: 1d4 ⇒ 1
paralyzed for x rounds vs yellow if needed: 1d4 ⇒ 4

"Paralyzed: A paralyzed character is frozen in place and unable to move or act. A paralyzed character has effective Dexterity and Strength scores of 0 and is helpless, but can take purely mental actions. A winged creature f lying in the air at the time that it becomes paralyzed cannot f lap its wings and falls. A paralyzed swimmer can’t swim and may drown. A creature can move through a space occupied by a paralyzed creature—ally or not. Each square occupied by a paralyzed creature, however, counts as 2 squares to move through." So Irizati would not have been able to summon or move. Hopefully the rest of the party can make all 4 saves and take out 4 mummies without being touched.

The map doesn't do a good job of describing the area outside of the room, but unless the mummies move quickly I don't think all four will be in range of Irizati when he finishes summoning the cyclops. It's susceptible to the fear auras, though. Incidentally, that's another reason to summon an elemental; I think they're immune to mind-affecting effects.

I moved 5ft away on my turn. Probably was in range of green. We do need to sort things out because depending on where everyone is and who makes the saves this could be a TPK before we even get to act. You are partly correct, Elementals are not immune to fear but they are immune to paralysis. I do agree that the better choice would have been to summon a medium elemental in front of us to stop them from getting closer.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Cyclops happened already, but we'll have to postpone the next summoning and what Tere and Khellek were doing. The DC was 18, so Irizati is out for 1 round, Doodle doesn't care (and that's good!), Khellek out for 3 rounds, Tere for 2 rounds.

I also created a new map to better illustrate the situation.

Cyclops will save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20

As the mummies come into view, their wretched appearance strikes fear into any living creature's bones. All are petrified except for Doodle, and the cyclops.

The mummy in front gets to swipe at Doodle, and the rest pour out of the corridor. Doodle gets an Attack of Opportunity against blue.
Red mummy @ Doodle: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (1) + 16 = 171d8 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14
By some miracle, the mummy is unable to connect its deadly slam to Doodle.

The blue comes next to Doodle and swipes.
Blue mummy @ Doodle: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (2) + 16 = 181d8 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19
But someone is watching over Doodle.

Green leaves the corridor, also coming next to Doodle!
Green mummy @ Doodle: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (1) + 16 = 171d8 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13
They are the unluckiest mummies of the dungeon.

Yellow moves closer, but is unable to get in time for a hit. Double moved. And cyclops gives a little clobbering to the head.
Cyclops @ Yellow Mummy: 1d20 + 13 - 4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 13 - 4 + 2 = 123d6 + 12 ⇒ (1, 6, 1) + 12 = 20

Irizati makes sure Doodle will not be paralyzed by fear or anything else for that matter, while the cyclops he summoned moves into the cramped corridor, waving its greataxe at the mummy. I just realized I never posted when I rolled the cyclops' rolls for the despair aura. I do distinctly remember it succeeding on all checks, hence not being affected by the fear.

The cyclops first clobbers the red mummy into fine dust, delivering its strike to the blue and green mummies. The blue is left standing, but the green one is also turned into ancient dust.

Doodle's draconic blood makes her practically immune to such petty diseases known as mummy rot. A simple cold, it is! With the red mummy out of the way, she concentrates on the blue mummy instead. Alas, the dust gets into her eyes and her spear does not connect.

The remaining mummies do have some knowledge within them, realizing the cyclops poses a far greater threat to them. The blue one concentrates its strike on the giant, while the yellow one tries to drop the pesky gnome.

Blue mummy @ Cyclops: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (4) + 16 = 201d8 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19

The cyclops is easily hit by the mummy, and the giant is in danger of contracting the dreadful disease, mummy rot. (Fortitude save DC 18 to the cyclops, if it matters.)

Yellow mummy @ Doodle: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (7) + 16 = 231d8 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14 (So I'm guessing Doodle's AC is 25?)

Attackwith Heroism, Haste and IC and Flank 1d20 + 12 + 2 + 1 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 12 + 2 + 1 + 2 + 2 = 38
Damage with IC and arcane strike 1d6 + 6 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 6 + 2 + 2 = 11

Oh right, yellow mummy will swipe.

The yellow mummy swats the casting Irizati! And hits!
Yellow mummy @ Irizati: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (15) + 16 = 311d8 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13 (And a Fort DC 18)

The cyclops fumbles and doesn't connect its menacing greataxe.

Doodle sees the opportunity to strike the blue mummy down. The strike hitting decisively, it deals minimal damage to the undead, requiring the additional strike, impaling the mummy, turning it to fine dust.

The yellow mummy continues its onslaught against Doodle, slamming its arms at her!

"Doodle, sidestep." The elf does likewise, taking a short step to (hopefully) flank the final mummy before attacking. His first cut slices easily into the walking corpse, but he can't manage to follow it up.

Fortunately for Doodle's survival, I believe Khellek is about to drop the best cure spell he has left onto her.

...and is hit by the mummy, risking yet another dose of mummy rot. The cyclops retaliates and smacks the mummy with incredible force, yet the undead still stands!

Tere positions himself so he'll get a swipe at the mummy, decapitating the last of the despicable undead creatures. Silence falls to the chamber, as the shambling sounds stop.

COMBAT OVER!

With more time on their hands, the Pathfinders are able to properly search the last chamber. Containing the treasures of the merchant prince, they see a horde of various items piled up next to Alkhet's sarcophagus. A pile of gems, jewelry, silverware, and art objects worth of at least 3,000 gold pieces, an exquisite dagger stylized as a snake, a red scaled full plate armor, a rod with stitched lips, a pouch of translucent dust, sandals with a spider pattern, a rod sculpted after a python, and a wearable scarab, all emanating a magical aura.

After appropriate identification...:

A dagger of venom, red dragon hide full plate, lesser metamagic rod of silence, dust of illusion, slippers of spider climb, rod of the python, and a golembane scarab.

Describe what you'll do with the last chamber.

Irizati would like to use the golembane scarab for now. He can't use the rod.

Tere nods, still somewhat shaken by the encounter. "Once you're all healed, we should put the mummies back into their sarcophagi, too. The Ruby Prince would probably want that."

The mummies turned to dust when destroyed. What's left of the merchant prince's four wives are faint memories and some plaques in a remote tomb.

Well, Khellek starts with a recording of the finds, sketches and written descriptions.

"Perhaps we should return the dust to the sarcophagi anyway" he agrees with Tere.

But first port of call, he spends some time trying to patch up the worst of Doodles wounds.

And folk did this with four characters without new fancy classes or feats, and straight through without rests? Crazy!
