Round 3 Wrap-Up

Andochtuir draws his fauchard once again, swinging it at the giant werebear, but the creature easily catches his weapon with a swat from the heavy axe. The impact sends vibrations down the haft of the alchemist's weapon, and he nearly staggers under the force of the blow.

Riftun hastily scrabbles backwards, offering advice to Torra as he puts his back against the railing.

Torra hurls her own blast at Jorgan, who doesn't even bother blocking, instead allowing his heavy hide and armor to deflect the nonlethal attack.

Yuto follows it up with a swift swing of his katana, stepping into the room and slashing at his foe with swift strikes. The werebear rumbles a laugh, slamming the weapon away with a sweep of his own that nearly knocks Yuto's katana from his hands.

"If this is the best you can offer, I'll need to beat the next batch into better shape than this last one."] He says, and launches into a flurry of savage overhead attacks with his axe, using the uncommonly heavy weapon in concert with gravity.

The blows shatter Yuto's guard, cleaving deep into his shoulder and nearly driving him to his knees from the sheer staggering force of the blow. Pain burns down his arm and up his neck, screaming at the damage done to him. Unfortunately, this leaves him open for the werebear to sweep down and snap his jaws at the samurai. This time, however, Yuto's armor protects him from the savage attack, keeping him safe from any lycanthropic curse.

Round 4 Wrap-Up

Andochtuir holds for a moment's time to let Riftun give him advice, and then swings his mace, crushing through the werebear's guard and smashing into his neck. Jorgan bellows in pain, swiping him away with one claw, but the damage has been done, and he is already leaning to one side, clearly in acute agony.
Although he doesn't get CA this turn, he only just didn't need it.

Said agony is swiftly ended when Torra unleashes her blast, which smashes into his stomach and shatters his spine. He collapses with a thud, gurgling his last.

Yuto just has no time to issue his challenge, for his friends take down the enemy that menaces to take his life. He looks incredulous over the fallen bearman "Th-thanks friends... I think he would have killed me next if not for you..."

The Tien swallows hard and touches his shoulder where the axe has opened a horrible wound. Still he does not complain.

Leaning forward he picks up the battleaxe to inspect it "Th-that one is massive... I guess I shall conserve it as a testimony of what we have survived here"

After making sure Jorgam is not going to stand up, he examines the room.

"Always aim for the head. Solid advice - especially when it's difficult to miss." Andy responds, nodding appreciatively at the bard as he sheathes the mace. Getting it as a backup had been money well-spent indeed. He spares a second to inspect the creature for lack of vitals, just in case.

Gradually, the werebear slowly shrinks down to the size of a normal (if somewhat bulky) human, revealing an Ulfen man with a thick, matted red beard and braided hair.

Andochtuir:
The werebear is, in fact, deceased. It looks like Jorgan may have been able to cling to life for a few seconds after the finishing blow, but it was just not quite long enough to permit Andochtuir to save the man's life.
He was literally just brought below negative constitution HP.

Jorgan himself carries an ornate raven statuette carved from jade and set with precious stones that look like they're rubies and sapphires. On the table, there is another statuette, this one made of wood. It represents an Ulfen warrior biting his shield in the manner of berserkers.

Appraise DC 20 - Jade Statuette:
Between the fine craftsmanship and the precious materials, this is probably worth around 100 gp.

Appraise DC 20 - Ulfen Statuette:
This is well made, for all that it is carved from wood. It's probably worth about 10 gp.

Yuto's search reveals that there's something beneath the coal bucket beside the stove - a whole lot of gold pieces. 450 gp, to be exact.

Beyond those interesting items, most of Jorgan's possessions seem to be of the filthy or otherwise wine-stinking variety, with almost nothing of note remaining.

Torra huffs. "Why do they never believe us? We say 'please surrender, for your own good'." The dwarf begins to posture exaggeratedly. "'We will not! We will crush you!' She sighs dejectedly. "And then we have to kill them, and, and... Ugh. I wish they'd listen."

She gives the dead Ulfen man a last, sorrowful look. "I'm sorry, I wish things would have been different." She raises her eyes, but does not look at the others. "I am trying to control my powers better, to be less... destructive, but it's hard. It's fighting me all the time, and it hurts when I try to use it gently. That's no excuse, I know."

Sighing, she turns away from the latest scene of carnage. "Anyway, let's keep going. To the basement, yes?"

After searching the room and finding the gold, he agrees to head into the basement next, taking the front with Yuto once again.

Since Riftun is out of resources, should we go and rest soon?

The party continues their way up the stairs, and immediately begin to feel the chill of the autumnal air blowing down their faces. Once they reach the top of the stairs, they see why. Windows open to the elements bring a chill to this room. A fireplace stands against one wall, its ashes cold, next to a stack of firewood. A trap door with a wooden ladder leading to it opens in the ceiling to the southwest. Six light cots are spaced about the chamber, with a small footlocker next to each.

As soon as Yuto reaches the top of the stairs, three tengu shimmer into view, each one striking rapidly at the samurai with gleaming wakizashi. Though one of the attackers' efforts is deflected by his armor, the other two manage to slip their blades through it, slicing into his flesh. Immediately a sense of numbing weakness surges through him, despite his best efforts to push it aside. Spots dance in his vision, and even the pain is distant, as though his mind is only tenuously connected to his body.

Note that Yuto should normally roll the poison damage/save on his turn, but I'll do that just so that there's a certain level of consistency. I'm terribly sorry about this, but it does show exactly how lethal the tengu can be when they're prepared.

Yuto miraculously survives to the ambush, or more exactly thanks to the Cacassian Angel always ready guard.

"Shizuru, give me the skill to stand in front of these traitorous enemies!" coiling under the effect of the venom but clenching his teeth to endure it just enough time to protect his friends, Yuto unleashes an attack from his katana over the green tengu.

Round 1 Midpoint

Riftun shouts swift advice to his allies as Yuto readies himself to fight once more. Taking care to protect Andochtuir, he slashes at one of the tengu, who very nearly ducks out of the way - only for Riftun's advice give Yuto a brief flash of insight to cut into her chest.

She squawks in pain, stumbling back a few steps. A dark stain swiftly spreads over her armor as she and her companions resume their assault.

The injured tengu strikes vigorously in response to her injury, blade blurring towards Yuto. The samurai is caught off-guard by the sudden viciousness of her aggression, as she manages to get through his guard and slice a red line of pain across his throat. Fortunately, Helgarval's aura protects him from the worst of it, and his own unbending honor forces the venom from keeping him down.

"Yuto it's not worth it! Go back I have a plan! Torra cover his retreat!" Riftun cries out as his friend in being carved into repeatedly by the tengu.

The young bard reaches into his pocket and produces the ground mica within. Rubbing it between his fingers the red-haired man mutters under his breath, "Fulgentius Pulvis." and scatters the mica into the air which arcs around him and quickly turns to a brilliant blue slamming into the ground beside where the tengus were last seen in an explosion of dust and butterflies.

Casting glitterdust to hit all three tengus if yuto has moved back or as many as possible (likely two) without hitting Yuto if he has not moved. Also CA Torra white and anyone in the glitterdust must make a DC 17 Will save or be blinded.

Round 1 Wrap-Up

Andochtuir swings at where the nearest tengu ninja had been as he urges Yuto to retreat, but his fauchard cuts only through air.

Meanwhile, Torra prepares to hurl a blast of earth at whomever she first sees - limited though her visibility is on the stairs. Where the white-lined tengu was last seen is the only place that doesn't have hard cover from her, and the other two are the only squares she'd be able to see at all, I think. Maybe one behind Riftun, too.

Round 2 Midpoint

Yuto heeds his allies' advice and begins falling back, retreating down the stairway towards the landing below - and is left unmolested on his journey.

For charity's sake, I'll assume Riftun delays until after Yuto has the chance to retreat down the stairs.

Riftun summons a burst of gold-shimmering dust in the area where the tengu last were visible, and the bright light shines briefly, only to reveal... nothing. The ninja are apparently no longer there.

For several heartbeats, nothing happens - perhaps the tengu are moving, but if so, it's impossible to tell.

Riftun grimaces as his spell makes contact with nothing but shrugs it off seeing how badly injured Yuto is in the moment. The bard outstretches his hands and a shimmering light comes forth soothing his allies wounds as best he can. "Let's get you patched up Yuto, you're safe now. The dust should at least work as a barrier for a little bit."

Round 3 Midpoint

Riftun joins Yuto and Torra, and casts his healing spell as Yuto drinks an antitoxin to help him resist the venom still coursing through his veins.

Yuto is at 19 hp.

As they wait, a blurred form flickers into visibility in front of Andochtuir, just out of reach of his sword, as one of the tengu lifts a blowgun to her beak and fires it at the half-elf, who only just manages to dodge out of the way.
Green Blowgun vs Andochtuir: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26 Wow, that just misses. Unless attacks from invisibility count as vs. flat-footed. In which case it hits. I think it might, but let me know and I'll roll damage if it does.

Another of the tengu ninja lined in red flickers into sight as he hurls a dagger at Andochtuir. Like his companion, his outline is blurred and flickering, as though he is not quite solid. Andochtuir is more than able to evade this time, though he doesn't even need to - his hardened flesh deflects the attack easily.

The last of the tengu does not appear.

Meanwhile, Yuto continues fighting against the poison that ravages his body - albeit with more aid this time.

"Yuto, I shall offer you Desna's aid. I apologize for my delay." Helgarval says to him, and a warmth immediately fills him.

Yuto is now under the effects of aid for 3 minutes. He gains 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 temporary hit points, and a +1 morale bonus on attack rolls and saves vs. fear. I honestly forgot to check whether he might have any anti-poison SLA. He doesn't, but this is something he should really have done sooner.

Yes, that hits exactly, sadly. And yes striking from invisibility would make Andy Flat-footed so sneak attack would apply.

For all that the half-elf had thought he'd dodged the blowdart, he feels a sting of sharp pain in his jugular as it tears through the skin.

Andochtuir Fort: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10 Yeesh. Andochtuir takes 1 point of Constitution damage, and is affected by blue whinnies, so if he fails the next roll, he'll fall unconscious.

Feeling a surge of weakness in his limbs, Andochtuir steps forwards, swinging his
fauchard at the one who shot him. Despite the broken, flickering outline that surrounds the tengu, he lands an incredible hit, carving a gash out of her chest and knocking her back against the wall. She slides down, leaving a trail of gore and torn feathers.

The other visible red-lined ninja squawks in alarm, before hissing and glaring at Andochtuir with feral hate in his eyes.

Well, let's hope our luck on the poison saves will turn soon, falling unconscious here would be kind of bad :( I think my HP with 8 normal damage and 1 con damage would be 31/39 (max hp temporarily lowered by 5. I should have been at max hp going into this from earlier healing).

Round 4 Midpoint

Riftun doesn't have Heal trained, and has a -1 Wis bonus. He does, however, have timely inspiration, which I'll have him use on at least one of you, if it would impact things.

Riftun offers hasty advice to both Andochtuir and Torra, urging them to deal with the sole visible red-lined tengu as Yuto advances up the stairs, powering through the poison to face his foes once more. Such is his strength of will that the tengu ninja looks rather alarmed. He's shaken for 1 round - you hit it right on the number there!

Perhaps because of his newfound fear, the black-feathered creature stumbles back a step, before rushing away with agile leaps. However, his fear makes him hasty, which leaves an opening that Andochtuir can take advantage of. His polearm's blade is a blur as it tears a gash across the tengu's side.

The ninja takes the pain with a low moan, but pushes onwards a few more feet. Turning, he slips out the window, clearly intending to climb down the wall.

A sharp squawk comes from the far side of the tower, followed by a sharp crash.

Perhaps emboldened by his own unrelenting will to fight on, Yuto's body finally rids itself of the poison's continued ravages. Further, as Andochtuir sways on his feet, Riftun utters a quick encouragement to him, inspiring him to fight off his own poison.

With andy using power attack and with the mutagen buff and a magical weapom, his actual damage is 1d10+16. So the escaping tengu would take 10 more damage. Does that down him?

Wow, that was such an awesome and dramatic round description!

Torra rushes up the stairs in pursuit of the escaping tengu, her momentum carrying her through the window until half her upper body is hanging out; she scans the side of the tower.

Figuring the white Tengu was too quick to chase, and thanking Riftun for his inspiration, Andy chases after Torra and similarly looks out the window, then throws a Javelin after the climbing one!

The team searches the room carefully - in each of the footlockers (at the foot of the cots) there is a single jade statuette, much more ornate than the ones that the heroes have encountered in the past. Furthermore, there are a variety of decorative fans, silk kimono, wooden geta and the like scattered throughout the footlockers.

Appraise DC 20 - Jade Statuettes:
These are worth about 100 gp apiece, thus a total of 600 gp.

Appraise DC 20 or Craft (clothing) DC 20 - Minkaian Goods:
Altogether, these are probably worth about 250 gp, though perhaps collectors might offer more.

Finally, there is an obvious trapdoor that leads yet further up into the tower - surely it must be the top there.

As Yuto approaches the door, he examines it carefully. Seeing no traps, he pushes it open to reveal a chamber that holds only a simple bed and a table bearing a water pitcher and basin. A fireplace stands in the eastern wall.

Both Torra and Andochtuir hear the creatures as well, leaving only Riftun taken very much aback when, disturbed by Yuto's approach, a flood of black-feathered creatures erupts from the opened doorway beside him.

Taken aback by the sudden surge of avian attackers, Yuto is on the back-foot when it swarms over him, pecking and clawing at him as they surge around him. Although he is able to resist the disgusting sensation of the wings and feathers brushing across his body, a raven does get a lucky strike, tearing a jagged cut along his forehead. Blood leaks into his eyes as more and more pecks and claws tear through his armor and other protection - however, the magical vitality that Helgarval endowed in him keeps him from feeling too much of the pain.
