Hi all,
Feel free to discuss your characters here. Looks like a few of you might have multiple characters you can play. I added the scenario description to the campaign info in case that changes anything.
Once you've figured out which character you're playing I need three things:
1. Fill out the muster sheet
2. Have your character sheet accessible to me. Any format of your choosing is fine as long as I can view it and it is linked in your alias profile. It does help to have your basic tagline info filled out
3. Tokens! Normally you'd upload these to the google slides yourself but for Foundry the easiest way is to send me the token. You can leave a link to the token, or send it to me via e-mail (ray [at] redeux [dot] net) or discord (redeux#9667). If you dont have a special token in mind then that's fine, I'll grab your alias picture.
As a reminder we will be starting Wednesday, November 11th
If you haven't already, also try making sure you can access the foundry server. If you just see a black screen try enabling webGL
Firefox - about:preferences -> Performance -> Uncheck “Use recommended performance settings” -> Check “Use hardware acceleration when available”
If that doesn't work, let me know and we can go from there.
If you have any questions or need anything from me let me know, thanks!

Muster Sheet filled out and here is Greezgux's character sheet. I also have a mostly created character profile for Greezgux on Foundry that includes his token if wanted to try an import. Otherwise can use the token off his profile pic here.

Sounds good! I created a folder for 2-06 PC's and you should be able to import. (this is under the "actors" section on the right sidebar, the icon looks like 3 people/heads)
For everyone else though you're welcome to just give me the token since for this game I don't intend for us to use the foundry character sheets (but you are more than welcome to explore them or try out the pathbuilder2e import option (top right of the char sheet) to see how that works for any future foundry games)
Zhao Kang

kuey checking in with Zhao Kang (Kang for short). He's a L5 wizard (universalist), although I still need to update his character sheet.
Zhao Kang

GM, Kang bought a scroll of Ray of Enfeeblement and a scroll of Comprehend Language, which he will scribe into his spellbook. Can I assume that somewhere at the start of the scenario, he would have time (1h and 2h) to do so? He has Assurance (Arcana) to get a result of 19, automatically succeeding the DCs of 15 and 18 respectively.
Just want to get this out of the way so that I can update his character sheet in one go. Pending that, his character sheet is updated and his ready to go.
| GM redeux |
For those of you still picking your characters -- So far we have lvls 6, 5, and 5. Even if the remaining 3 players all picked lvl 3's we'd end up high-tier. You're still welcome to pick whichever character you'd like but something to be aware of. Fortunately mentor boons are now free (as long as you meet the reputation requirement) so if the party needs to slot some of those it shouldn't be an issue.

I've signed in with Nina, a squishy level 5 divine sorcerer.
I can go with the level 3 champion if we really need, but will need mentor boons because the champion isn't very well built (basically, I made a Dex-based archer champion assuming the APG would have options to make it better but ... yeah ...).
Knab "The Knave"
|
Knab is practicing his bashing and knifing skills (retraining) as well as consulting his fences (shopping) and will be ready by Wednesday.
I also started building his PC sheet in "Test PCs" - can you transfer it over to "Party PCs" and add his Alias picture please?
Nina Jaribu
|
I built Nina in "Party PCs." Can you add her profile picture? If it's not a good picture because of the darkness, I'll find a different one.
On the map, I see multiple goblins, and it's possible that I accidentally selected "Goblin Lini" as my character. Is that a fixable mistake?

Got Nina's picture up, and I went ahead and pulled everyones' profile pictures as well. But if you have a special token or alternate art you'd like to use, just provide it and I'll update it.
All the goblins are gone now so everyone should have control of their character

Knab - Nina has the Envoys' Alliance mentor boon available for you, if you want.
While working with less experienced Pathfinder allies, you provide vital advice to sharpen your newer colleagues’ skills. For any PCs benefiting from a Level Bump and whose levels are lower than yours, you increase the Level Bump’s modifier to skill checks to 2.

And Greezgux has the Vigilant Seal Mentor Boon as well.

Knab "The Knave"

Knab has reserved a special place in his heart for Goblins, if for no other reason than they seem to him more "honest" than most races that walk the planet. He also feels at times protective over them, standing just above a typical Goblin's height. In sparring with Greezgux, he is quick to rely on his innate and blood-bound resistance to his magic (perhaps to his partner's surprise?), but quickly learns that, although he considers himself quite proficient at scrapping, he might yet have a thing or two to learn from the young sorcerer.
And speaking of sorcerers, having yet to meet a creature that hath seemingly descended from the heavens themselves, Knab's knowledge of theoretical theology (as well as his firmly held beliefs towards Atheism) are suddenly tested by the arrival of the Aasimar. Indeed, his curiosity practically boiling over, the Dwarf is quick to create an excuse to thrust right into the heart of a "controversial" topic, at first baiting his colleague with trifling remarks, only to actually express the nuance of his positions which, if Nina too be willing, he is willing to unpack and re-analyze.
Mentorships Accepted!

Katrina will try flirting with Nina a bit but, if Nina isn't interested, Kat will stop doing it.
Katrina is also a circus performer by profession so, if the others are interested, she'll demonstrate some of her stunts - including a death defying underwater escape.
She'll also add the Horizon Hunter Mentor Boon if anyone wants it
Nina Jaribu

Katrina, Nina's not in a great mood, sorry. I'll elaborate when Gameplay starts (or you can read her increasingly verbose profile), but she just lost her husband and quite possibly her whole family when a coup dethroned her family in her emirate.
Knab, Nina is happy to discuss theology, but her personal theology is going to be a little dark at the moment for the above reason. In between scenarios, Nina has taken a (voluntary) alignment shift from NG to N, and is mechanically no longer a follower of Iomedae (meaning she technically can't cast spiritual weapon - I'll have her temporarily worship Calistria/Nethys/Norberger if a voluntary restriction on spiritual weapon will TPK us).

Yeah FAQ seems to have changed some stuff. If anyone is impacted or something you do is now a gray area then feel free to ask what my take is on it. Play-by-post might be a bit awkward with some of this stuff being actively discussed/contested for a few days but I can do my best to do research about a topic and give my take.
For example -- Battle Medicine seems to continue to not be fixed. Barring paizo clarification I will continue to require just 1 hand for battle medicine since that is what the FAQ intent seems to be (failing to recognize healers tools are normally 2 handed and thus did not update the feat to modify how many hands are needed).

GM, I discovered the "Level Bump" button (and applied it) - is there a way to build in Knab's Mentor Benefits from Nina and Greezgux?
TLDR - Yes, its done!
Longer (boring version) - Not on your end, I've been told that it might be worked on eventually. I ended up creating some effects to do this that you'll see on your sheet (picture). These will grant an additional +1 to the saving throws and skill checks. At the end of the game I'll remove these and then send you the .json file of your character without the effects/level bump.
Ninja edit -- Err, I just realized it was combat and skillful mentor. I put the right ones on your sheet now!

For moving in Foundry There's a few ways to do it:
In all of these examples make sure you are using the "Select Tokens" tool shown here.

I have an extra Hero Point to give (1 glyph GM), and I'll give it to Knab for being in the uneviable combination of being lower tier and frontline.
| GM redeux |
and just out of curiosity --- I suppose it's too late to purchase a 'feet to fins' potion.
Not quite but this scenario interrupts the VC briefing so just hold tight with that. I'll assume any major purchases were made before setting out on the boat, and any mission specific stuff you'll be able to pick up once the VC briefing is complete :)
And on the topic of purchases -- if anyone did buy anything just make sure it's added to the muster sheet under 'notes (odd skills/purchases/etc)'

Knab's middle name is "unenviable"!
Faction: Grand Archive
GM Glyphs: One to 1d2 ⇒ 2 Kang
Retired Boons: Cryptid Scholar (□□□), Esoteric Wayfinder, Off-hours Study: Cyclopean (0/50), Professional Hireling, Sand Slide (□□□)
Achievement Boons: Fluent in Cyclops (Access only - see Off-hours Study)
School / Items: Field Agent / None
Additional Preparations: None

No such thing as a 'Potion of Feet to Fins' at least not that I can see, but there is a potion of swimming for 50 gold which lasts 10 minutes and is a 6th level consumable. Since Katrina is 5th, I presume, according to the Organised Play Guide, she can't access that yet. There's also Lesser Sea-touch Elixir which is a level 5 consumable costing 22gp which does a similar job.
FYI: I recently played this with another character.

GM - I have fixed all of Knab's numbers (Bump + Mentorships) on his Alias here, to save you some trouble.

I haven't played any scenarios with this monestary, but the scenario is referencing them like it's common knowledge - I'm guessing it's a PFS1 scenario that I haven't played. Is the monestary underwater?
Good question, I didn't play PF1 much either but did some digging when i was prepping. if anyone is interested in some general background I'll put it here (none of this is inherently spoilers to our current scenario, but if you still play PF1 then there will be minor spoilers)
There is a scenario in Season 9 that visits Jalmeray and features VC Melipdra. She indicated that when she was a student at the Monastery of Unblinking Flame she always thought it was odd there were schools for air, earth, fire but not Water. The scenario starts with her explaining she acquired a pale gray stone sphere from a market and it had faint runes in ancient Vudrani and Aquan that spelled out "Monastery of Unbreaking Waves".
That's just the gist of the VC briefing, and we can surmise that the monastery was then rebuilt from the Society's efforts

Looking through the titles in Season 9, I think it's PFS1 #9-24 (Beneath Unbroken Waves).
If anyone is interested in playing it, I've got a soft spot for PFS1 scenarios that lead into PFS2 scenarios. I'm full with GMing at the moment, but maybe in the new year, I'd be willing to run it.

Quick question. Any chance that Kang could purchase a scroll here? Then scribe to his spellbook. Looking at Water Breathing and Feet to Fins.

That's fine, OOC/IC this scenario advertises underwater combat so that's something you could've done on the trip to Jalmeray (when there was lots of time on the boat). Just make any necessary purchases/rolls and note it in the sign-in sheet before we move onto the first mission from Remendi

Yup that's the one, and i likely won't have interest in it myself but appreciate the offer

Gah! Never mind, I completely forgot that I only have 3.7gp left. Sigh...

Would hand of the apprentice be considered a ranged attack? It mentions that "In a success, you deal the weapon's damage as if you had hit with a melee Strike."

GM - I am unclear what happens on a Failure to Swim. Critical Failure says "You make no progress, and if you’re holding your breath, you lose 1 round of air". Do we move at all on a "regular" Failure?
If the answer is "0 feet", Knab will use his Hero Point to Re-roll that natural 1 (which beating the DC of 10, resulted in a regular Failure).

Yeah, it would be 0 feet. For those type of skill actions if you fail it's just "you don't do the thing." Crit fail makes it a bit worse, so in thise case it would also cause you to lose air (which doesn't matter for us while using water breathing potions).
It might make a little more sense looking at High Jump where if you fail the DC 30 check you just don't leap, but if you crit fail the check then you don't leap and fall prone instead.
| GM redeux |
GM, did you mean to let us see the health bar of the dragon turtle?
Yup! Thanks for checking. It's been there all all along for all the baddies. I tend to use approximate values but not specific values in VTT and I figured for this game I'd try it out as something I couldn't do on my google slides. The rationale is that your characters fighting this creature would be able to get a rough idea of how it is looking. In roll20 I used a "health aura" that was gradients from green/yellow/red and was more vague than a health bar. In future games I might see if there's something similar for foundry but for now I figured health bars without values are fine

...A large, magical air bubble forming a film around the largest opening. Past the bubble’s film, a tunnel strung with bioluminescent algae stretches into a series of caves, and though the air is breathable, water streams in from several points, forming a wet layer on the ground. Injured monks and rescued sailors lie in makeshift cots throughout the ward. Supplies are strewn across the floor. Three exhausted medics run from patient to patient, taking readings and performing triage.
Team reminder: We are not currently underwater.

GM, I wanted to hear some of your thoughts on Foundry. I was going to PM you but I thought others may be interested.
1. Relative to Roll20, how hard is it to set things up?
2. I noticed your link is foundry.redeux.net. Is it necessarily hosted on a personal domain, or is there a hosted option?
3. How has customer service been with problems?
4. How is the uptime? Any complaints?
5. Pros/cons vs Roll20?
6. Worth the price?
