Retired to Taldor?

'Make up?' Turning back to Meg he asks. "Could you show me how to make my eye's pop? People say the eyes are the window to the soul. So I want mine to stand out more when I'm performing."

Turning back to Kizzy he gestures towards the tomb. "Speaking of eyes, I can see twice as far in dim light as you humans. And I can move fast enough that if there is a problem." He smiles and shrugs, "I can get behind you and Kast with his longspear."

He leans in closer to Kizzy and whispers. "Come on Kizzy, how often is Hemlock going to ask us to delve an honest to gods tomb. It may be my only chance, with out the possibility of getting arrested."

The Sheriff listens to your desires and explanations and nods. Before long, you come to the church again, and move around it and behind to the graveyard. ”Some of the goblins were seen crossing Tanner’s Bridge, maybe those were the ones who broke into the crypt.” He walks up to the nervous Father Zantus, uneasily holding a mace, though it’s clear he scarcely knows which end to hold. He looks relieved when you arrive, ”Belor, thanks for coming so quickly.”

The Sheriff bends down to examine the crypt door, clearly hanging ajar when you look at it closely. ”Any of you good with tracks?” He asks. ”Looks to me like someone removed the door, and then replaced it again so we wouldn’t notice. Sloppy job, but it’s a heavy door, and they were just goblins, although some of these tracks look somewhat larger. Still, subterfuge seems odd in a goblin.”

Izomandakus wrote:
Once at the graveyard, Izomandakus asks Father Zantus "Can you explain us what is the overall layout of the tomb? Is it very deep?"

”Just large enough for the body really, and some space to sort of walk around the coffin.”

He steps back to let someone else check the signs. He’ll then suggest, ”See what you can do to get that door off without damaging it any further.” Looks like it’s a narrow enough space that only two of you can work on it in any reasonable way. Short of ropes, winches, and the like.

So, I’ll need strength checks from two of you, and any tracking checks you care to make. With his passive check, Seamus sees no traps.

Female Human(varisian)

Meg takes an exaggerated step backwards to let everyone know where she stands on moving the door. Kizzy and Kast seem the best suited to that work of anyone. And as for tracking, Meg is vaguely aware that the concept exists, but she has done her sincerest to avoid spending time in any natural setting that does not have a gardener on-staff to maintain it.

"I would be happy to show you, Seamus, when we are back indoors. It really is simple, but it is easier for me to show than to tell."

Kizzy chuckles at Seamus pestering to go first. "Your eyes are only half-elven, whether they pop or not! Oh alright, you have a look first, but I'll be right behind you, yeah? I can't keep up if you go scampering off." She twists her head back and forth, cracking her neck and then rolls her shoulders to limber up before trying to move the door.
Strength Check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22

Having a look at the tracks Qetsiyah was not completely certain of what she saw. "Hmmm, wouldn't mind a second opinion here. I'm thinking this larger print there is probably made by the 'longshanks' in question. What do you think?"

"Ok, so, just a small mausoleum" Izomandakus nods to the father understanding "Were there any valuables inside that the goblins might have wished to steal?"

"Let me help you Kizzy" without waiting for a response Izoamandakus leaves his staff leaning on the closest wall and joins the woman in the heavy stone door, taking the door with one hand and placing the other in her back. Kizzy clearly feels a sudden surge of augmented strength.

”Ah, I see. It is called makeup, darling. I am happy to share some tips. Especially with the facial hair, something to make your eyes pop would do nicely.”

Kast smiles, a strong boyish smile.

”Oh no. No, thank you for the offer,” he ponders back. ”But as a guard, no one needs to see my eyes pop. What matters is what I can do to be better in defending the wall, the town, the innocents. My eyes and face don’t matter. When I want people to see me...I dunno...I’ll just smile, I guess,” Kast smiles, and it’s a fairly nice smile.

* * *

Kast takes the Sheriff’s silence as total and complete agreement that his idea of going to Lastwall was the best answer that could have been given. He limps along with a goofy smile.

* * *

At the tomb’s door, Kast looks at the potentially narrow area, and realizes his longspear might not quite have the freedom to move as it might out of doors. As such, he pulls out his shield, strapping it to his arm. He hasn’t practiced with a shield and morningstar as much as he would have liked, but it seems more fitting for the narrow battlefield, should goblins still be inside.

Trying to be generous, and while trying to keep watch on others, he lets others open the doors and look for tracks.

Meg flips her hair back out of her face as she idly watches Izo and Kizzy--mostly Kizzy, to be honest--work on opening the crypt. Since Kast has also decided to stand back, she figures she might as well keep up the conversation. "Who says it is for other people. Have you never dressed up just to make yourself feel better? Put on some armor so you can go to the mirror and look ready to go defend Lastwall. It is the same idea."

Kast thinks about that.

”Oh, is there make up for armor?!” Kast seems intrigued by the idea. ”Oh, maybe we can paint some dents into it so it looks more badass? But maybe I’ll get into more scuffles and earn some real dents, you know? I dunno. Not sure if adding make-up blood stains to my armor would be better or worse. I guess I can probably just not clean it as often too.”

Kast thinks more.

”Nah, I kind of like it when my armor is clean, neat, and perfect. That’s where I want to be. Yeah.”

'good no sign of traps in the door at least.' As Kizzy and Izomandakus move forward to fidget with the door, Seamus steps back, pointing in the tomb. "for what it's worth, the goblins didn't booby trap the door."

'Remind me not to arm-wrestle Kizzy.' Raising an eyebrow as Kizzy moves the door on her own, he steps back near Meg and Kast A they continue their conversation about makeup. Smiling, he asks, "Meg, could make-up be used to make Kast appear more fierce? Facially I mean, You know, a little less pretty in his armor? Appearing fierce seems perfect for armor." He turns and winks at his too-handsome friend

Female Human(varisian)

Oh, Cayden. He really is just a meathead, isn't he. "That is not...quite what I had in mind, Kast."

Meg's face takes a thoughtful mien at Seamus's question. "It is certainly possible. I do not really have the materials for that particular kind of makeup, though." She pauses as she realizes that her disguise kit probably has exactly the kind of makeup she would need. That would involve revealing that she has a disguise kit, though, which is a rather uncomfortable situation to put herself in. "Get me the materials and I could see what I could do."

Meg steps up with her brass knuckles, taking Kizzy’s spot. She connects with Izomandakus’ aid and drops the already wounded skeleton! Seamus tumbles to the priest who hands him his mace while Kast steps up and, with Kizzy’s aid, pulverizes the remaining skeleton.

As Kizzy steps back, Father Zantus cures her of her injuries CLW: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10, leaving the party fresh and whole once again. The Sheriff nods his approval, ”Nasty little things skeletons. Well done. Now let’s see what they were guarding.”

He takes stock of the tracks, muddled by the combat, and enters the small crypt. He returns with a nondescript robe. ”Tomb’s empty - they took the remains, but left this behind.” he hands over the robe to any who wish to examine it.

Spellcraft DC 21 (with detect magic):
It is, or rather was, a robe of bones (link). It has had all its undead stripped away however, and has no further embroidery.

”There may be nothing left,” the Sheriff adds, ”But let’s seal this up again as best we can anyway. No need for the citizens of Sandpoint to know this particular bit of information quite yet. Not until we better know what it means. Grave robbing indeed,” he shakes his head.

Meg takes the robe in hand and looks it over. "I can say with definitive certainty that this robe is quite ugly and unflattering and I too would not be caught dead in it." She holds the cloth out to whoever wants it next. "Presuming the skeletons were not animated before, I suppose this means we shall have to keep an eye out for any nude necromancers."

Meg smiles as she points her sword straight up in the air. "Well done, darlings! Excellent teamwork. Why, you would think we have been doing this for ages!"

She sheathes her sword and stows her brass knuckles before turning to the Sheriff. "Anything else you need, darling?"

Grasping the mace quickly, Seamus turns to see the two skeletons fall. 'Well that went well, um maybe not.' His smile disappearing when he realizes Kizzy is wounded. Though relieved when the priest immediately went to take care of Kizzy, he raises an eyebrow as the sheriff calls the skeletons 'Nasty little things' 'Nasty little things? What does he think is bad' After the sheriff steps into the tomb and the priest heals his friend, Seamus shrugs and hands the mace back to the priest. "Thanks anyway father."

Sticking his head in the tomb as the sheriff hands the robe to Meg. 'So much for exploring a tomb.' Turning from the tomb he asks, "How many bodies were supposed to be in here?"

Looking at Hemlock as he shakes his head, Seamus moves out of the way so they could seal the door, while chuckling at Meg's comment. As he moves out of the way he asks, "for ages huh?" Then points to the robe. "I'm more worried about the necromancer part."

When everyone is ready, he steps towards the tomb, rubbing his hands together, "What can I do to help?"

Qetsiyah sheathes her sword as she expresses her gratitude to the Father. "Thanks, Father Z. At least I'm the only one who needed healing." She said happily, noting that she managed to keep her friends from harm this time.

"Meg's right, we work well as a team." While the others seemed more interested in a scrap of fabric, she turned her attention back to the tracks, or what was left of them, anyway.

Kast smiles, shaking the bones out of his morningstar. Well that was a good hit. Kind of fun, wasn’t it? Them skeletons ain’t so tough. But you *could* be more perfect. Next time.

Kast looks around the tomb, pleased to finally see a part of Sandpoint’s secret past.

”I bet if I’m heroic enough, I’ll get a tomb built to me too! But mind won’t have skeletons in it. It will be clean. And perfect,” Kast comments, thinking about the next orc wars. Or if the Whispering Tyrant ever comes back.

Kizzy finds little more than what’s already been discovered in the tracks, even with the impressive help. Clearly a half dozen or more goblins were in the area, along with a single medium humanoid. And two skeletons of course, though she does discover they left no tracks in the graveyard, just in the tomb, which is odd.

”Yeah, sure, take your time. Return it to me when you know what there is to be known. You might also confer with Veznutt. Veznutt Parooh. Kast knows him at least a little as they’ve both taught at the Academy. He lives the other side of the church” (area 4 on the map)

”Kast, see what you can do to help Izomandakus. You’re otherwise still off duty. Take the day but report Fireday for market duty please.”

"We can have a meal together afterwards and discuss about all this strange stuff going on" the boy strokes Pachemu and gives him a cookie for his good help on finding about the goblin tracks.

Meg giggles to herself at Kast saying “perfect” yet again. A meathead and he has an idealistic view of the world—as to Meg only an idealist could believe in perfection—so he will need some looking out for.

She reflexively pulls back at Izo’s touch, but she does not comment on it. If she did every time a man was overly familiar or doting, she would have spent half her life correcting people, and that sounds awfully exhausting.

The only thing less interesting to Meg that going to discuss magic with a wizard-type is going to talk to someone named Veznutt Parooh, a set of syllables she is certain must be some kind of lewd saying passing for a name as a joke. Also, she just picked up a sack of gold this morning, and what else do adventurers do when they get a sack of gold but spend it immediately on gear and booze. ”I think that in the interest of keeping up this Hero of Sandpoint shtick, I should like to see what manner of weaponry and armor they have about the town. With some extra set aside for some, as Sappho calls them, potent potables. I am fine with a shared meal after shopping, though!”

Doesn't look like the skeletons came through the graveyard, though. Maybe there really is a naked necromancer." She said, barking a laugh at the idea.

You definitely get a cookie." She said while heaping scratches and praise on Pachemu. "Remember that "longshanks" smell if you can, I have a feeling this isn't over."

As talk turned to what to do next, she shrugged amicably. "I like the sound of lunch, for sure. Whatever else is fine by me." Shopping with Meg might be fun, maybe she could find a Thank You gift for Ameiko's generosity and hospitality. She didn't like the idea of keeping things from her friend, but the Sheriff did seem to have the people's best interests at heart.

'Meg's right we work well as a team?' Looking from Kizzy to Meg handing Izomandakus the robe, then to Kast as he looks around the tomb. 'I guess we did, they seemed to handle the skeletons better than I did.' He unconsciously lets his hand rest on the long-knife. 'Maybe I should get a weapon that has a little more umph to it, or Brass knuckles like Meg.'

Hearing Izomandakus and Kast were headed to Parooh's and Meg was going to look at weaponry, Seamus speaks up. "Lunch together would be great. Should we do that before or after we split up?" Joking, "I know killing the undead always works up my appetite."

He looks at Meg, "Either way, do you mind if I tag along to the Savah's Armory." He gestures towards the south west, "It's right over there." He turns and looks at Kizzy, raising an eyebrow, questioningly.

Izomandakus and Kast:
Izomandakus and Kast head around the corner to The Way North. The shop portion of the building is rather expansive, and every inch seems covered in maps and charts. Though it’s a large space, it’s clearly built for a gnome, and you have trouble moving around without knocking something over, shifting a table, or discovering a chair under a mound of paper.

From under a desk peers an aged but spry gnome. He comes out calling, ”Why Kast, it’s been an age. How are you doing today? Am I late for a lesson again? How was the party last night? Missed it working on a map of the coast. The Slandish drawings are useless. They don’t capture the feel of the cove!”

Kizzy, Meg, and Seamus:
You’re headed, not far, to Savah’s Armory as Seamus suggests. Savah Bevankiky runs the place, and she greets you when you enter, ”Welcome… oh, Welcome Sandpoint Heroes! Well done on the fire. The last time the cathedral burned, my place was singed. Who knows what might have happened. I am, as are we all, in your debt. Please, come in and let me know what I can do for you.”

As you enter, you immediately see, in a nice glass case, a repeating crossbow in dark wood and ivory that bears the name ‘Vansaya’ on the stock. It’s a beautiful piece, and while it may be the highlight, there are many fine weapons and suits of armor throughout the place.

"Hello, darling! A pleasure to meet you." Meg leans on the counter with one hand, her other on her hip. "I love that crossbow in the case, but I am afraid it is a bit too big for me, darling. I am looking for something a bit more dextrous and fine." Meg glances about to see if she can notice any hand crossbows her size. "And some bolts as well. Cold iron, preferably. I never buy anything different." That is technically true, though it does leave out that she has in fact never bought bolts ever. She has also not considered what she will say should Savah tell her that she does not have any cold iron bolts.

Izomandakus stops impressed to witness the full work of a nearly completed map of varisia where the author has added all kind of drawings to better convey information of each location. Qetsiyah tended to have a frugal nature, especially when not gainfully employed. And while being a so called hero had proved lucrative so far, it was no guarantee of future funds. Not like a steady gig as a Caravan Guard would be. Still, she'd discovered something worrisome about her skills on the battlefield. Though she could often protect and aid those who stood beside her, she seemed less able to do the same for herself. Taking a hit now and then was part of the job, but if she were to succumb to her wounds, who would protect her friends then? The thought sent a cold chill down her spine.

Looking at a small shield that strapped to the arm, she asked the shop keeper, "Will this impede my ability to use my sword?"
